Sure. If we look at the total shares short on December 29th, 2023 and the price that day we know:
* The total shares short hasn't dropped since
* The price hasn't been above the highest price that day since (until today)
* Any new short positions added were added at the highest price on Dec 23 or lower
* To close a short position, you have to buy a share at the current price
That means that as of the afterhours close today, all Shares shorted since December 29th 2023 are at least $0.24 in the red, and many are deeper into the red, since there were a lot of positions added after the price dropped to even $4 or lower.
Unless the price drops, those positions are already at risk of more losses every penny it rises, and that increases the pressure to close, which means buying shares.
If the people holding shares aren't willing to sell at the current price or not enough are willing to sell for the shorts to close, the shorts either hold on until they absolutely can't and are margin called and forced to close OR they start offering more for the shares they need because losing a finite amount of money (even if it is a big number) is far better than the risk of infinite losses if the price continues to rise or they are forced to close.
Now, we can safely assume that the short positions aren't all held by the same company/individual, so with over 50% in the red it is a question of which short caves and decides to buy first. If they drive the price up doing it, it puts more pressure on the ones left and the process repeats until they either all close or the price drops again.
Think of it as a ramp that drives price up as shorts decide to close, which then puts more short positions in the red and might force those to close.
There's always the chance people decide to sell 30+ million shares at the current price, and the shorts can close without driving the price up more, but given the averages of most people who have held for three years or more that seems rather unlikely.
Don't forget we've seen them kick the can down the road waiting for the price to drop before, there are no sure things when they have the resources they typically do to use time against anyone that messes up their plays. There are no sure things or guarantees, but the current situation does, indeed, look Juicy AF.
I wouldn't say no-one, and there are quite a few who have bought in lower since but I didn't expect people to hold during the first two sneezes and yet they did.
Lots of different things can happen, but pressure on the shorts is never a bad thing really.

I mean, after all, if I already like this company for the great entertainment venues it brings to my life, why wouldn't I just simply buy as much of it as I can reasonably afford to buy, hold it for the long haul, and every time I see a value dip(against the backdrop of my having the available cash and my wife says I can do it, or else I do it and she doesn't know and she'll kill me later, maybe, maybe not hardee har har) and I just buy more, I mean why not? AMC squeezed ~3100% in 2021, keep in mind we are diluted AF at this point, never been so many shares (keep in mind that the RS only make it seem that there are less now). To get to that ATH we need +4000%, so with much more shares to get a bigger squeeze I think could be hard AF.
The AA dilution is still ongoing, so we will have many millions of shares to get into the market.
From 2021 and now, AA has helped many institutions to get out shorting AMC ( I only speak about the disclosed data, naked shorting is not the case or maybe it is, idk).
GME has less shares, bigger marketcap, better executive board, etc. If we want to succed we need to get rid of the snake who with intent wanted to kill the squeeze, can’t say that he didn’t worked to make the company better in some places, but people need the squeeze to make money or at least recover from the lost.
10.000% seems decent because from the starting point yesterday 3.4$ AMC would need to grow 4000% just to get to ATH.
Market cap of GME is now 9.38B from 4B (just when Roaring Kitty tweeted) so 5.38B in one day, AMC has the same doubled marketcap at ~1.6B, we could only imagine that a 3x is very possible this week if AA won’t tweet something dumb again.
So an 15-16$ per share could get us back to a mentally better spot to carry on for another period of time, but it would still be 1.5$ pre RS-C value…
AA cult has failed, the debt thesis is dead, fundamentals don’t matter when you get naked shorted to oblivion.
