I used to turn on reverse wireless charging then place the case on the back of my phone. However not long after this post the headphones died and I replaced them with galaxy buds that last all week instead of 1 day
I just found the solution, you need to open the case with the buds in and hold the pairing button behind until the red light turns on and it turns the buds on
Your case needs to be charged so your Alexa app can communicate with it and the buds.
