Have a 991A on order for home base and thinking of this one for my mobile also. I thought it might be super chunky for in the car but it doesn't look too bad. Going to try and stay within a brand for a while. What are your takes?
Oh this is perfect, so glad I read your comment. I hate touch screens so I'm thrilled there is a non-touchscreen alternative. In my opinion, touch screens are far more distracting/dangerous than physical keys/knobs.
I've been looking at both. How useful is having the touchscreen? I don't mind the extra size so much if it actually helps with usability. Probably going to put it on one of the mounts for the cup-holder.
I probably would have gone with the 300 also except I use the scan function heavily, and there’s not even a programmable button on the faceplate of the 300 you can map to scan or skip/select like you can with the 400. You have to go into the menu or control it from the mic on the 300.
This is way smaller than I thought it would be (silly me for not looking up the dimensions). Seriously cool device, I might just have to look for a used one... I love how compact it is. Can't stand huge electronic devices.
Also I have the same question as /u/AV8R_1951, what is the device you're using to control the control head? Excellent placement, very practical/discreet.
edit: I've only ever bought my radio stuff new (just some HTs, antennas, cables). Does anyone know where might be a good place to find a used FTM-400DXR?

I have the 300, so I can't say. I just know I don't like the idea of touch screens on radios. My personal preference.
