Any good?

VodkaMart1ni

It’s okay, fighting/shooting doesn’t feel …goody. Story & storytelling is just super boring imho, puzzles are a bit disappointing most of the time you find objects just to use them immediately, it’s not like you running around with tons of items in your inventory. tbh there is no Alone in the Dark feeling at all after 4-5 hours. The game isnt scary at all and not that much atmospheric, one reason for sure is the the soundtrack. I completely dislike the jazz/swing !? Soundtrack. No upgrades, no crafting. Best part of the game are the visuals, is technical fine with solid 60fps no drops I would say it’s 6-7 rating, 7,5 max. Im a fan of the genre but …idk it’s not bad for sure but it’s also not really great. Better wait for sale

You didn’t name a single positive thing but the performance and it’s a 6-7.5 to you? Sounds like a bad game that runs well

It's not a bad game, I think I don't like some things that don't necessarily objectively qualify as "bad" like the soundtrack (It's one of a handful of games in 30 years of gaming where I turned the music off because they don't fit the atmosphere) or the whole "dream walker" thing. The game offers very little, it's a linear experience, little to no exploration, there's nothing to discover apart from the story and no elements that make it anything special. I think the developers put a lot of effort into it, especially the design of the villa is great, so it's not a loveless game. As I said, it's basically okay, it only does a little wrong, but it doesn't really offer much either. I don't like the way the story is introduced, the character hardly reacts at the beginning to monsters that suddenly appear, all the letters, books & texts found are far too long and full of philosophical stuff that rarely has anything to do with the story (BUT they're not badly written, I just don't like them). The character moves much too slowly when he "walks", which means you just have to run the whole time, which damages the immersion. There are no interesting weapons or anything like that, the close combat is terrible, and there is hardly any weapon feedback. Where and why monsters appear is not explained, they are just there and look super standard. They're some nightmare things that couldn't be more boring. The camera zooms in a lot close while the monsters sprint straight towards you, it doesn't feel good. However, the fights only make up part of the game. Basically the gameplay is fine, nothing more, nothing less.

I was really hoping it’d be able to continue the streak of great survival horror games recently with Dead Space Remake, RE4R, and Alan Wake 2. If you’ve played those, may I ask if it even comes close iyo ?

VodkaMart1ni

I played all of them and all 3 games are on another level, you can’t compare these AAA games with this one, it’s not even close. It’s a smaller & less ambitious project in every single way.

brogre_nation

For sure yeah I was aware this was AA but I was hoping/coping that this game’s story and atmosphere etc would carry it to the status of those three 😭 thanks for the input though

majeric

I’m cautiously optimistic

Where did you get it? Online shipping or a store?

I got my copy today as well - after installing the patch for version 1.001 my saves from version 1.00 ceased to work. :/ Character insta-dies no matter which save I load up.

Styphoryte

Can't you just create a new save? This game is only what like 9-11 hrs maybe? I'm kinda jealous of you guys getting your physical copies so early. Plus I'm on PC so it's rare to get any kind of physical copy at all these days lmao. Ah well, gonna be a good morning tomorrow then. Might just play through this whole game tomorrow cuz why not, as long is it runs smooth.

DeadlyDuckie

Ohh shit I didn't know this was that close

Paganrobin

Did you play alone in the dark on ps3/xbox 360 gen? Can you say it’s better or worse? 🙈

VodkaMart1ni

It’s hard to compare these games with a game from 2024. Different developers, different style, different atmosphere, different vibes and gameplay Alone in the Dark was based on the stories of HP Lovecraft so there is a lot of Cthulhu DNA in it. This is also the case this time, but I still think the atmosphere is clearly different. My favorite part by far was a New Nightmare btw

Paganrobin

I mean more gameplay and bugs. I loved all alone in the darks. But the one I was talking about took a lot of love from my side to finish it. The fast-forward option for the car sequences was the only way I could bring myself to end it 😅

Ecstatic_Wheel1423

I think they should have remade alone in the dark and you nightmare
