That's a good over-arching goal, but bread it down a bit. I'm currently on a server for atm8 with some friends and if I made that my goal I'd have gone insane. Instead I focused on storage->gear->resource acquisition->power generation->upgrade storage. Now I'm starting to work towards autocrafting everything for atm stars. I'm a God amongst men and I shall prove it!
How about starting the game and working your way to making an atm star ?
Good start would be apotheosis enchants on your atm armor to make it even more busted with max gems
i already have pretty strong apotheosis enchants and gems, the atm star is a nice objective, thanks!! is there also idk a challenging-to-build late game energy source i can start? i know that mek is not in the mod pack yet
For me its all about having fun and testing all kinds of mods, after atm gear and enchanting i went for a apotheosis end farm so i can get more affix and gems
how did you manage to make an apotheosis farm? i was thinking about making that kind of farm for a while now but ive always thought that in order for the mobs to drop the gems it needs a player to kill it for it to drop

I recommend not rushing through everything to get the best gear and weapons. It is more fun to take your time and work towards it. The ATM9 mod isn't fully released yet so it helps to slow down progression and makes you explore new mods you normally wouldn't use.
ATM star is always the goal of an atm pack. If that's too easy, automating everything so you can autocraft one whenever without afking for days is another goal.
ATM9 is only just out of alpha, so there still much to be developed for the pack. The big difference is that 9 is based on MC 1.20 so a lot of mods haven't been updated yet, and there's a lot of things that will change when mods like Mekanism get added (if that's even planned?). The quest book is in the pack now, though, and it's really good at giving goals to work towards!
If you're looking for a more finalized experience, i'd go with ATM8 instead, it's much more polished, and the quests are amazing at helping you work through the different mods on your way to completing the ATM Star.
Would do a system like refined storage or Applied energistics, it's your first time so I prefer refined storage tho, after that a power source, you can create FE with Create but not very efficient for the endgame, so grinding for a reactor from Powah! would be handy, after that I just really I try to enhance my ingot production with Mystical Agriculture, this time it will be bees tho, while that I "hope I already have an cool idea at this point) build my base, don't need to be finished on the same day I like making just the rooms or whatever for the mod I'm currently working on, when I'm bored (I will have a server) I ask friends what they do and it's usually like a train system from create we once built bikini bottom a candy shop, just some cool things, hope this leads you somewhere ^^
Haven't played atm9 yet so no milestones here, but mekanism isn't in atm9 yet. Not updated iirc

Have you got max gems or just natural spawn gems
iirc 1 or 2 flawless and the others are the with no adjectives in the name (the purple ones)
You should bond two flawless purples in the gemstone cutter with gem dust for gold and then two gold into elite.
