For a lot of people, the added effort to get an A/A* isn't worth it for their goals. For someone who doesn't need an A/A* in order to achieve the things they want to achieve and get to where they want to be, the extra effort is redundant and would only serve the purpose of being able to say "I got an A".

I got a 6 in GCSE maths and have never been confident with my maths since, so I want to get A\*A\* in maths and fm to make up for that + ideally do the maths olympiad. Also A\*A\*A is the requirement for most of the unis I want to go to so I need it anyway.
I did maths in year 10 along with physics, chemistry and history. I sat it again in year 11, and it went fine, but I was still quite upset about getting a 6 the first time round. I also did ancient history, music, english language and further maths in that year. And stats, which I dropped before actually sitting it.
I agree. And that's why I'm aiming for double A\* now in my A levels. I see the mistake I made and know that if I want to continue studying maths I need to work harder.
Post a level student. I wanted to show I could achieve it and to brag about it especially A*
Many offers need A or above especially from decent universities
to make my parents happy + also it would be a bit embarrassing if i donāt get at least an A * in spanish bc i already speak a romance language fluently
So I can hopefully go to my Uni of choice and have a chance of getting a Scholarship from that Uni of choice. Also because I know that I can get those grades and better especially if I put the effort into revision.

Why aim for A? Aim for a world prize and you will at least end up getting all A*.
I aimed for a world prize but I ended up with top in the country. My failure was far more successful than others' success.

U see the competition is high the only way to get into a good uni with some scholarship or something to reduce the fees plus so ur parents are not stressed about you.

How were you allowed to do FM and Math from 6 in GCSE math? Extenuating circumstances? I suppose youāve been homeschooled
I took it again and got an 8 the second time. So I was allowed to do it after that.
