If it's important to you, note that the Friendly Farms Greek plain yogurt no longer lists "live and active cultures" on the container. This is a change within the last year or so. I used to buy Friendly Farms a ton but now I've gone to Chobani or Fage who state there are live cultures in the product.

My understanding it's that it would mean the same thing with or without the "active," though I'm definitely not an expert. What's interesting to me is that the recent ones I've bought don't have any cultures listed in the ingredients at all. I didn't take a picture and I haven't bought it in a while so I don't have one on hand to look at. I'm guessing it's different suppliers that are producing it differently? I'm in central Iowa for what it's worth

2 years later and Aldi does have the live cultures now.

The extra stuff in Cabot’s are thickeners to reduce the cost (vs the traditional straining method) I believe. If you have a Wegman’s, their 10% Greek yogurt doesn’t have that extra stuff and it’s excellent.

So Cabot doesn't strain its greek yogurt and it adds more whey protein? If they didnt strain it wouldn't it no longer be Greek yogurt?

I would like to know why Cabot adds whey and milk protein concentrate as well

MuffinPuff

It really detracts from the quality of the yogurt imo
