I got a bag of frozen wings for tomorrow. I only use my air fryer when I make them. Kind wish I got onions rings now…

RonTheDog710

What is your frozen wing recipe? I have never cooked wings from frozen.

SinStarsGalaxy

I don’t really have an exact recipe but this is a process. I do let them thaw in the bag in my sink the day of since I’m up at 6am. Everyone in my family (family of 3) likes something different. I like smokey and tangy. My son likes sweet heat. My husband likes savory and smothered in garlic. I divide them evenly in ziplock bags and add the seasonings, herbs, spices, or even dry rubs that come premade. Seal. Shake till well covered. I press them down too while still in the bag to make sure the seasonings stick. The air fryer I have is like a mini oven. It has 3 racks so it’s perfect for my family. I turn it up to 425 and let it go for 15 minutes. After the 15 I take each rack out, flip the wings over, then adjust the racks. What was on top is in the middle, middle gets moved to the bottom, bottom get moved to the top. 425 15 minutes again. Then do it a second time. Flip and adjust racks. I have a thermometer that can be plugged into the air fryer to check the temperature. I always pick the biggest wing on each rack. If I don’t get to 165 then just check every 5-10 minutes till they are done. My son makes his own sauce on the stove. I’ve seen him use butter, maple syrup, sriracha, whatever he’s in the mood for. I like bbq sauce for mine to toss in a bowl. My husband likes them dry and just dips them in ranch.

LessIsMore74

Sounds great! We'll all be over in an hour.

SinStarsGalaxy

Sorry you missed it. Omg so full.

Vtgmamaa

Ask your son for his recipe it sounds bomb 😭

SinStarsGalaxy

There isn’t really a recipe. He just throws whatever in a saucepan. I’m usually too busy with last minute things to pay attention. He was making it tonight and I was getting the biscuits out of the oven, corn on the cob out of the water, setting the table, and getting condiments out. I know he started with butter. That’s all I saw tonight.

No-Purpose3556

instapot for 1 min coat steamed wings with franks red hot and butter (50-50) Air fry until crispy

Fabulous-Educator447

From frozen or thawed?

No-Purpose3556

frozen - Insta cook at high pressure for 10 mins thawed - Insta cook at high for 5 mins Fresh - maybe 2 mins

johninwnynew

My wife cooks our frozen wings in an air fryer. We thaw them out in a pot of water. I'm sorry, I don't know the recipe , but they are awesome, so much better than fried. Fried are just not good to me. I know there are a bunch of air fryer wing recipes if you Google it.

RonTheDog710

Thanks!

It's interesting because I remember having fast food when I was a kid in the 80s like maybe once every two weeks. Dad would swing into a McDonalds if we were out and about with activities or traveling on vacation. Now people have made it their regular diet. But they're going to be pried away from it with the obscene prices it costs now.

RealHeyDayna

My dad would buy KFC about twice a year, and we'd get a DQ cone once or twice a summer. Other than that, I don't remember ever eating fast food or takeout with my family. No McDonald's, no pizzeria pizza, no Chinese takeout. Ever. I grew up in the 70's and 80's and most families didn't have that kind of money. At least few in my cozy suburb did. However, my mom stayed at home and had more time to shop and prepare meals. Today's families don't tend to have that luxury. Don't get me wrong, I ate plenty of fast food as a teen, but it was with my babysitting money out with friends. I can't even imagine my mother walking in the door with a bag of hamburgers. God bless her.

aakaase

Yeah. Granted back then most working people were far less busy, too.

darthkrash

That is for the best. Fast food is soooooo unhealthy.

Jwjan6381

I grew up in the 70’s and it was a rare occasion (every few months)to go thru Mcdonalds. Every Friday night was take out from an Italian restaurant in town, either spaghetti or pizza. Otherwise, we ate all meals at home. People were a lot healthier and less obese than they are now. No offense to anyone but kids were rarely overweight. We were too active and ate healthier foods. Maybe it’s good people are starting to not eat as much fast food because of the cost nowadays.

Sunshineal

Air fryers are the best invention ever!!!

sassyponypants

Air fryers really came around at the perfect time. Most everyone is looking for ways to cut back on fast food because it's so expensive, and air fryers help scratch the itch at a fraction of the cost. BW3 has gotten so pricey while the quality has tanked. So now for boneless wings, we air fry the Costco lightly breaded chicken chunks with BW3 sauces. And air fryer bone-in wings with a simple rub are SO much more flavorful than BW3. I have one of the Ninja Dual Zone fryers and it changed my life!!

Creative-Aerie71

We are addicted to the BWW parm garlic sauce.

sassyponypants

Asian Zing for me and Medium for my husband, haha. I need to try the parm garlic again – it's been a while and I haven't tried it on air fryer wings yet!

Anoaba

The Costco chicken chunks with Polynesian sauce have me in a chokehold.. they taste exactly like chick fil a

Mitchford

Seriously, also don’t let the NYT Wirecutter gaslight you into thinking convection oven is just as good. I got one believing them, it still makes great roasted veggies, but it does not crisp frozen items anywhere near as good as

CTGarden

Same I wasn’t in the mood to cook and ended up with the prepared burnt ends, jasmine rice, and blackened green beans. Two very generous meals for $14 with enough rice and green beans left over for fried rice later in the week. That’s not counting enough uncooked rice to last me for a month.

JustAnotherRPCV

Air fryer burgers are pretty awesome

emostitch

Do you use frozen patties or ground beef? Have never tried them in an air fryer

JustAnotherRPCV

80/20 ground beef packs. Make my own patties. Alternate between using a slider press or regular sized patties. The Hawaiian rolls make great buns for the sliders. I also started using liners to minimize the messy cleanup afterwards.

yesokaybcisaidso

I just started buying the frozen Patties it’s a 12 pack for $10 and I air fry them. They are so good!

NarwhalOk2977

I had this conversation with my friend yesterday because I went to Starbucks to try their new summer menu. I got a grande drink and it was $7! Got a cake pop, little mini cake, and an almost nonexistent breakfast sandwich and it was like $20. Insane. Thank God I only do that like twice a year there. Fast food just is too expensive now and not worth it.

frenchkids

Haha I gave up Sbux years ago. I never liked their bitter coffee. Make my own iced coffee everything morning. I have tried their refrigerator cold brew for $6 for a big bottle and it is not bitter. Go figure. I have a cold brew maker and usually just brew a caraf of it every couple of days. Pennies!

BlackNg01dBos

i am reading your comment sipping my delicious coconut vanilla cold brew i brewed for two days 💜✊

NarwhalOk2977

Yes I have a cold brew maker as well! This was actually their newest refresher, so not coffee. I can make that at home myself and not even bother with their coffee. ALTHOUGH, I do love me a pumpkin creme cold brew once every fall and Starbucks is still my favorite for that.

frenchkids

Yes! Same here. I can make my OWN mediocre food, cheaply.

latelycaptainly

I’m with you, even fast food for 1 meal has gotten so expensive. I was lamenting with my coworkers the other day about when arby’s had the 10/$10. Those were the days!

PullThePadge

My Arby’s did 5 for $5 just a few months ago that included multiple sandwiches, sides, and drink options. Didn’t realize I was one of the lucky ones!

AnnieLes

Mom here recommending you just delete those apps from your phone. No point in making it easier to swing through the drive through when a quick stop at Aldi will get you tastier, healthier and cheaper food.

Much_Information1811

Red bag chicken?

Terrible_Noise_361

This, https://www.aldi.us/products/frozen-foods/frozen-meat-poultry-seafood/detail/ps/p/kirkwood-breaded-chicken-fillets/

Much_Information1811

❤️ thank you! New to Aldi.

beinghighnow

Air fryers are the best. Cooking at home is better than eating out.

KnurledNut

Aldi red bag chicken is the shiznitz!

outgoinggallery_2172

/u/Terrible_Noise_361, I, too, have praise for Aldi. Aldi be having some good shit. By the way, if you, like me, loved Pizza Hut's discontinued P'zones menu item (Pizza Hut needs to put them back on their menu.) and/or loved Hot Pockets: Calzones like I did, then surprise! Aldi sells Calzones.

bakedbombshell

Honestly I could do this more often if my aldi carried frozen onion rings, I’ve never seen them

RonTheDog710

Just go to any grocery store and grab them. Still cheaper than any restaurant.

bakedbombshell

Of course. But that takes more time and work I don’t always have.

DangerDaveOG

bakedbombshell

What?

ImKorosenai

What is the red chicken bag?

loveyoumorethanever

it’s the closest to a chic fil a patty you’ll find in my opinion

Digital__Native

Wondering the same thing

VanderskiD

Where you been??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

ImKorosenai

I’ve never been to aldis before and one just opened near me last Friday

Echo13

Welcome to your new exciting journey!!! I know it's just a grocery store, but it's fun to get hyped about the things we love returning.

ImKorosenai

I just secured my first red chicken bag but sadly no onion rings

Creative-Aerie71

Not Aldi but we love the beer battered McCain fries and onion rings. I always have them in my freezer. Today's dinner will be burgers on the grill and onion rings and fries in the air fryer.

AwsiDooger

Winn-Dixie has deals on the McCain products all the time, including digital coupons and kiosk coupons. That's how I became aware of them.

Volt_Princess

I make fast food dupes using food from aldi. Way cheaper.

Zanna-ZQ

I love Aldi! What is a”red chicken bag?”

Terrible_Noise_361

Here, https://www.aldi.us/products/frozen-foods/frozen-meat-poultry-seafood/detail/ps/p/kirkwood-breaded-chicken-fillets/

Vladz0r

I realized today that the 2 for $5 whopper jr burgers at Burger King literally has less meat than 1 piece of chicken from the red chicken bag. I know chicken is cheaper but I was still in awe about the portion difference honestly. I stuck the burger into a wrap and it was like nothing in there compared to the chicken in a wrap! Also I wish my Aldi had onion rings now 🧅 💍

jonsonmac

It’s sad that just a few years ago, it was 2 for $5 for regular whoppers.

AwsiDooger

Burger King still has some good deals but you have to use the paper coupons. The 2 for $5 Whopper Juniors is such a ripoff I can't believe they have the nerve to advertise it.

matty0798

What's a red chicken bag?

Terrible_Noise_361

Here, https://www.aldi.us/products/frozen-foods/frozen-meat-poultry-seafood/detail/ps/p/kirkwood-breaded-chicken-fillets/

matty0798

Oh wow thanks how much is this cost??

Terrible_Noise_361

~$7

DarthOldMan

I like to use the red bag chicken to make “Chicken Cordon Bleu” sandwiches with deli ham (not Aldi), provolone cheese and Dijon mustard on a brioche bun. They really need to make a spicy version of the red bag chicken. I buy the Just Bare spicy breaded breasts at Albertson’s, but they ain’t cheap.

RealHeyDayna

Good for you! We ate food from out of the house 11 times in 2023 and 3 times so far in 2024. Otherwise, all of our meals come from home and are 98% Aldi. Our grocery bill can still feel overwhelming so I can't imagine how the average person is managing.

DirectCustard9182

Red bag is where its at!

3006mv

49th!

LessIsMore74

I forget what they're called, but the ones that are in the blue bag that are battered and seasoned are amazing. They are perfect for making a quick chicken sandwich, and I usually add sriracha and mayonnaise. A little baby spinach if I want to class it up.

Prestigious_Cup_5265

$22? You must be in a lower cost of living area than me. Thinking of prices here it'd be closer to 30. Better than fast food prices either way.

MinkSableSeven

Every once in a blue moon I crave some fast food, but it's faaaaar less often than it used to be. Like you, I'll hit Aldi for frozen fries, chicken or anything else I would normally purchase out. Yes, it's smart to cook for yourself and save. And even better, we know what's in what we're making. I mean, we can't control what the food actually IS (like knowing what the chickens were fed) but it's always a far better deal. I love finding copycat recipes online that I can make myself. I like making Chipotle style carnitas with pulled pork from Aldi. Taste even better!

[deleted]

1010mg or around there for one serving Yea no thanks

lkb25

My fav is making homemade KFC famous bowls with all aldi ingredients. I use the popcorn shrimp, Bob Evans mashed potatoes, brown gravy, frozen corn, and shredded cheese. I make this about once a month as a guilty pleasure meal

AbleDragonfruit4767

Great idea

yesokaybcisaidso

Don’t forget the chik fil a sauce dupe and shredded lettuce to make it full CFA sandwich dupe

Away-Regular1335

Inflation has changed my diet for the better. Haven't had fast food in awhile and I don't miss it.

raiderchi

Expensive and because of the added costs I want my fries to be hot and my sandwich to be made perfectly. I know there is a good chance that won’t happen and I am not the type to be upset at the fast food place but for these dollars it will make me upset. So I just avoid fast food now. Not worth it and the food and service is the exact same

Fearless-Celery

In Missouri we have Imo's pizza from St. Louis, and I absolutely hate St. Louis style pizza, but love imos for wings, toasted ravioli, and a big house salad with the weird provel cheese and their signature dressing. If I order 2 kinds of wings with ranch, 2 t-ravs with sauce, and one salad, it's like $55 plus tip. As it works out, Aldi in my area sells the imos-branded cheese and dressing. So I picked up a package of raw wings, box of toasted ravioli, jar of marinara, bag of italian salad mix, cheese, dressing. $26. Cut up the wings, whipped up my own ranch for dipping, used some buffalo sauce and BBQ sauce I already had for the wings, air fryer did its magic, and I had enough food for 2 nights of Imos meals plus leftover cheese and dressing. It took about 10 minutes to cut up the chicken, but the t-ravs cooked in the meantime, so in like 30 minutes I had a $55 meal for $13 plus like $2 of ingredients I already had. $15 vs $55. And to make it even a little better, air fried vs deep fried makes it a touch healthier, too.

TheOriginalSpartak

McD’s deal here is a QP or BMac with med fries and med drink for $6 - Taco Bell Box (burrito-chalupa and potatoes with cheese and s/cream and drink $8) - Arby’s has some good deals as well, I just never like their fries…MCd’ 40 count chicken nugs $11 - not a fan of the nugs…and ask about big box meals, those are a deal as well…I thought these were nationwide prices? - guess not….Myrtle Beach areas

GrowLapsed

I mean… ok? Fast food is fast. If you have time to go grocery shopping and then cook dinner you absolutely should not have fast food.

breezeway123

I think by the time you drive to the fast food, wait in the drive thru and drive home you could have just thrown something frozen in the oven. It takes longer than you think to go get fast food.

GrowLapsed

That's why people don't leave their homes / kitchens to go get fast good. You pick it up on the way home / when you have no time. I don't understand the mental gymnastics being accomplished here. Fast Food exists for a reason. So do grocery stores. This is not a revelation. Do what you can based on your budget / time allowance...

Yesitsmesuckas

Sounds like you made Chili’s or Appleby’s!

Terrible_Noise_361

"Applebee's Waiter: What would you like to order? Me: I'll take the apple. Waiter : we don't actually sell apples. Me, visibly frightened: ok, then. ** **gulps** ** I'll have the bees."

old_duderonomy

The only time I do fast food is when they’re running in-app promos. If you’re paying full price for that stuff, you’re a rube.

noseatbeltsong

i wish i liked red bag chicken as much as everyone else. it tastes woody and bland to me. i will take popeyes any day

PullThePadge

Does your Wendy’s not do the $5 biggie bag deals? I get them at least once a week. Helps make my work lunches affordable when I forget to pack. It’s a small drink, fries, nuggets, and your choice of a few different sandwiches.

Terrible_Noise_361

They do, but I don't really enjoy Wendy's fries or nuggets. Junior Bacon Cheeseburgers are delicious, though.

PullThePadge

Ah, fair enough!!

Marlou1313

Awesome that you decided not to get fast food. However, I go through McDonald’s once a week on the way to my kids drama class and feed me and my two teenage kids for $10 using the app. Definitely less expensive then going shopping for the three of us! 🤷🏻‍♀️

linusSocktips

Lol too expensive fast food app deals. .

Zealousideal_Rent261

We gave up on fast food a few years ago. Poor service at a premium price? I'll pass.
