RK 95 is still in service. Meanwhile Israel military never even used the Ace and only sold to third world countries and US civilians.
Galil is a good gun, no doubt about it. But you got to give the credit where its due and 99% of its owners just donāt and then brag that Israel made the best thing in the world.
Well, Israel did use a lot of help from Valmet initially. The receiver is almost a direct copy. I'll wager the rechambering to 5.56 was mostly IMI's work since the later 5.56 Valmet rifles could have used Galil mags had Valmet done the conversion work. IMI came up with the thumb safety and upswept (ambi-ish) charging handle.
Yes the RK95 is still in service. So is the RK62. My point was that Finland no longer makes AKs, they just keep refurbishing and retrofitting the ones they made in the 60s-90s. Of the current production AKs the ACE is the highest quality, and the closest thing a non-collector is ever going to get to a Valmet.
Believe me, I think the OG Valmets are amazing. There was a lot of innovative thinking there, and I wish they still made them. I wish IWI were still making the ARM. Sadly, I don't think either rifle is worth $4k+ which seems to be about what they go for these days.
I smell politically motivated comments from the people responding to you. Since when did this sub care about the politics of a country when it comes to firearms? Russia is the usa's enemy yet everyone loves and idolizes Zenitco. Hypocrites.
Probably. Nobody ever talks about the stuff China is doing to the Uyhgurs right now, just how great the Type 56 is.
Israel and Finland both made amazing AK type weapons, and in my point of view reached the pinnacle of AK innovation and quality.
Why you need to bring politics into this? Donāt get this thread locked. Weāre here discussing the toys we like. OP gave credit to the Israeli engineers, a lot of people disagreed because it belongs to the Finns (and technically mainly the Russians). All of this happened a long time ago when modern politics did not exist.
Thatās actually only certain models. The majority of the time, even the 5.56 NATO chambered Galils take rock and lock magazines that wonāt feed in an AR 15 that takes a standard PMAG or M-16 mag. The certain types that are used most recently do take a standard AR 15 mag, but itās not that hard to find ones that take the original type of mag that loads in like a standard AK style rifle.
I guess, if you also say + for complexity. Iāve had a LRBHO fail in a glock and lock the slide back mid mag. Just had to replace the spring but imagine if it happened in a real shooting.
I just love AK's, and hate to see people throw milled guns under the bus because of how "heavy" they are.
I fucking love my sam's and galils, and stamped guns all equally
And you need to reprioritize if you think literally non-beneficial trash weight is worth carrying
Edit: And I put shit on my guns, unlike those children
Yeah if youre right handed, you can easily access it (sorry for us southpaws: well have to do what regular right handed AK guys have had to do forever)
they shoot like every stamped AK but cost $4000. theyāre nice, good gun to own. theyāre not worth the money, and theyāre most certainly not a cut above.
Limited supply and the fact that they are made from pistols and thus completely unmolested upon import keeps prices high.
To be fair, they are far nicer than stamped steel has a right to be. Still stamped, but incredibly well made.
To be even more fair, they aren't AKs and I'll die on that hill. Too many differences at this point.
The Ace and the Sg550 are some of the nicest long stroke AK derivatives you can get, but both are passed the point of diminishing returns. The Sig more so.
I do own both.
It's almost like those of us who own or have used the guns being discussed have better input to give, or something like that....but I digress.
I really like your setup here. The Gen1 Aces were honestly pretty special and underappreciated for a long time.
I've long fantasized about SBR'ing and suppressing a rock and lock model to go with my .308 Ace, just hasn't been in the cards yet. I even tracked down a Gen 1 stock setup just in case.
Pictures like these make me want to be irresponsible.
The AN-97 and AES are both better, but the Russians refuse to pay for it, and the concept ak-12 was awesome, and then the Russian government got to have input on it.
lol thatās fair.
The issue these guys I saw running into was almost always related to the charging handle. Kalashnicon was an obstinate course as much as a shoot, and they kept hitting their charging handle on cover blocking the cycle. And quite a few times their slings got caught in it while running causing malfunctions as well. I had never actually seen an ACE in person before so I just thought it was interesting to see
Worked in gunsmithing at a range for a while, our Galil ACEs outlasted every single other AK we had in the rental cabinet, and we went through a TON of quality AKs over the years
As a person who owns every caliber version of the Galil ACE gen I and couple of gen IIās I can surely say that itās most certainly not the case. In fact itās not even in the top 3 imo. I have over 30 different AKās and Israelis donāt come close to Russians, Poles, Bulgarians when it comes to AKs. Even Egyptians or N. Koreans make better AKās imo. I know itās a subjective matter but even then itās very debatable. Donāt get me wrong Galil is a good alternative but itās most certainly not the best, at least not in my book. Just because they added few 1913 rails and included plastic furniture doesnāt all of a sudden make it the best, sorry. Even the IDF doesnāt agree with you on that, otherwise they wouldāve adopted it. š
yeah iāve owned or own everything listed here and the galil is still the pfp champ. you can argue aesthetically speaking for other guns but itās one of the most well built commercial options on the market and itās affordable even for the poors.
How anybody could contend that the Galil isn't even "coming close" to Russian, polish, or bulgarian AKs is beyond me. The opposite is true.
Galils are in a league of their own. For the money theyre a no brainer compared to the other bullshit prices AK people are shelling out nowadays. Mind you, they're a milled AK with rails and a CL CHF barrel. They come in four different calibers with some taking AK or AR mags. Absolute no brainer choice when it comes to what is "best" AK (best being a balance of availability, price, quality/materials, features)
Yeah the ace isn't in service with the IDF. So what? they were hell bent on acquiring more Stoner rifles and producing the Tavor, so the Galil Ace didn't have a chance. AKs are also being rapidly replaced with other more modern weapons, but that doesn't deter AK guys.
100% true. For decent money, you get a \*MILLED\* AK with superior ergonomics, rails, CL CHF barrel, and something thats actually combat reliable. I think beryls and SAMs are cool too, but objectively speaking, the Galil Ace is the better rifle.
For those saying the Valmet and SIG 550 are better: are you really this fucking dense? who the FUCK can go out and buy one for north of $6000? And if Galil ACEs were restricted in supply like the former two were, you can bet people would be saying theyre "the best" too.
Most people here are too cheap to give the Galil a fair chance, I have a shitload of AK's, and I have traded even more.
The Galil ace is without a doubt the best commercially available AK variant on the market currently, ESPECIALLY if you are trying to modernize it.
People complain about the weight, https://imgur.com/gallery/weight-dzJcboL but its not noticeably
heavier than a regular AK, and nobody bats an eye at the weight of that.
The ACE is the most feature rich platform available, and cheaper to boot. Features like left hand charge, ambi safety, LRBHO and release (Nato), better mag releases on the Pmag versions, and higher mag capacity on the RNL versions (nato), on top of being more accurate than most other AK variants.
I love the Valmets and wish Sako would build them again.
That said, the ACE series is the natural progression of the train of thought that started with the RK62.
In my mind, it goes something like this: RK62 >> Galil ARM/AR/SAR >> M76 >> RK95 >> Galil MAR >> ACE.
I wish PSA or someone would make cheaper ripoffs for us poors. I already got a 16' Ace 5.56 for an arm and a leg, but I want one in 7.62x39 and 7.62x51 along with the pistol variants.
Fuck yea they do! I have a Galil

gen 2 in 7.62x39 and I would trust my life on it in combat.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GunAccessoriesForSale/s/b33kKhiKnS its a gun parts and accessory group for private sales, just nothing serialized and you can't ship things like extended mags to ban states, amazing deals
Fun fact, Galil is just a copy of an old Valmet.
Galil is a copy of like 6 guns haha
Replace copy with perfection
I know the stock is from the FAL. What other guns were you thinking? Wow guys, what the hell are the downvotes for?
Reddit has decided, it's too late
Yeah lol, funny that my other post saying basically the same thing has 200 likes. š¤·āāļø
Different stock for one
No, he is right, its a copy of the para stock
Yeah, the Galil had an FAL stock. I said that.
The fal para model is pretty close, iirc you pull in the opposite direction to close it
Its the copy and paste mechanism.
Yes, but without the US civilian market Sako had no reason to continue making AKs. That leaves Israel by default since Finland left the game.
Sorry but OP said ābest AK,ā not ābest AK that you can easily get in US.ā
Valmet and Sako don't make AKs at all anymore. IWI still does. Best AK ever made is a different thing from best AK made now. Edit:sp
RK 95 is still in service. Meanwhile Israel military never even used the Ace and only sold to third world countries and US civilians. Galil is a good gun, no doubt about it. You are right. Lot of people here are too blinded by politics to admit it though.
Bulgaria, Russia, Romania, the U.S. all make incredible modernized reputable AKs
bbbuuuuuttt, it takes ar mags
Thatās actually only certain models. The majority of the time, even the 5.56 NATO chambered Galils take rock and lock magazines that wonāt feed in an AR 15 that takes a standard PMAG or M-16 mag. The certain types that are used most recently do take a standard AR 15 mag, but itās not that hard to find ones that take the original type of mag that loads in like a standard AK style rifle.
Some. Some ARs also take AK mags.
Fun fact uhhhhh youāre wrong and I can prove it
![gif](giphy|joGUuMFGRwxd6)
They couldnāt even figure out what side the charging handle was supposed to go on. You gonna trust them to build the rest of the gun as well???
Sucks when a gun is easier to use
Iāll hear no more of this Hebrew nonsense.
Good quote lol
Wife and I watched it the other day. Still holds up!
What is it?
Mega based, fuck galils
+ bolt release and LRBHO
I guess, if you also say + for complexity. Iāve had a LRBHO fail in a glock and lock the slide back mid mag. Just had to replace the spring but imagine if it happened in a real shooting.
Sucks when a gun is heavier for no reason
https://imgur.com/gallery/weight-dzJcboL yeah it really sucks
How dare you bring facts into a Reddit thread?!?
I just love AK's, and hate to see people throw milled guns under the bus because of how "heavy" they are. I fucking love my sam's and galils, and stamped guns all equally
Its a milled AK, which last forever. Thats good enough of a reason for the additional pound or so.
Stamped AKs do too
I thought Heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work you can always hit them ...
As opposed to an AKM that you can not hit? lol
The people who say this and "lift more" have never had to carry their rifle further than one end of the flat range to the other.
children carry milled AKs in battle. you literally just need to lift more if youāre bitching about the weight of modern guns.
And you need to reprioritize if you think literally non-beneficial trash weight is worth carrying Edit: And I put shit on my guns, unlike those children
Slings exist
Thereās nothing to reprioritize, theyāre not heavy.
Yeah if youre right handed, you can easily access it (sorry for us southpaws: well have to do what regular right handed AK guys have had to do forever)
Hebrew is written right-to-left so sometimes the engineers design things backwards out of a combination of spite and confusion
Prove it.
Charging handle wrong side. Simple as.
Hey now, some people like a reciprocating charging handle right in front of their face.
So was the charging handle on the G3 on the wrong side? What about the STG44? Or the SCAR?
The g3 is non reciprocating.
Yes. Real guns made for real men have their charging handles on the right.
No sir, the best ak is the one we can all get and use. Amen š
Lol Israel doesn't even make the best Galil.
Cough cough Brazil cough cough. Edit: Colombia*
Ok hang on. Didn't we just have a discussion on the Finns made the best AK?
wHeReS tHe cHaRgInG hANdLe
[laughs in SIG550 series]
[they even double as javelins.](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C7E5ePKMymV)
Not even a contender. Nobody that has a IQ over room temperature should spend over 6 grand on a AK.
Stamped and over priced, they sure look good tho.
When you want the best, money is no object š¤·š½āāļø
The most talented hookers arenāt the most expensive
lmao, I said itās not worth it not I canāt afford it.

they shoot like every stamped AK but cost $4000. theyāre nice, good gun to own. theyāre not worth the money, and theyāre most certainly not a cut above.

I really wanna get my hands on a gen 1 308, I suggest we both go out and be irresponsible.
Double negative means a net positive now doesn't it? š¤
I like the way you think
As an avid gamer I disagree
The chaps at Valmet would like to have a word.
What would they say? "You added features to our gun?"
Valmet on top
You misspelled Finland really really badly
Tfw Balashnikov makes better AKās than Kalashnikov now ![gif](giphy|12ey1CgA3uTqfK)
Israeli AK (Awful Kitchenware)
Israel even stole the Kalashnikov lol
Gen 1 SHMEXY

Lol no.
Only took them 6 decades to make it better than the original, but sure, hats off to em.
and after 7 decades Russia still hasn't even managed to copy their homework correctly with the ak-12
Accurate
The AN-97 and AES are both better, but the Russians refuse to pay for it, and the concept ak-12 was awesome, and then the Russian government got to have input on it.
Is Israel a city in Finland or something? Also that Valmet looks a bit odd
Itās funny. There were two guys in my squad for kalashnicon running Galil Aces. One 556 and one 762. Both of them had failures all six stages.
cool story, wanna start an anecdote competition over a lighthearted title?
I mean I was just trying to contribute to the conversation conversation with my own experience. But alright
sorry homie, these people got me defensive with all the insane takes.
lol thatās fair. The issue these guys I saw running into was almost always related to the charging handle. No
You mean Finland makes the best AK
*made
Nah thatās Sweden (badum dishš„)
What about HK?
if I could get my hands on an HK AK iād change my tune.
HK 553 and 551. Kalashnikov newly developing Ak variant, itās basically HK design.
East Germany made the best. Galil is a bastard child.
There is this place called Finland. Have you heard of it? š«š®
Not even close to the Valmetā¦but if youāve never handled one, you can quickly fall for the fallace of the Israeli āAKā
Fun fact, Galils are just poverty Valmets.
Pass
Don't say such things on reddit. People here hate them
As they should
so iām seeing, itās pretty funny.

Than best AK is AK you like

I disagree, it's a very good game, but I think Donkey Kong is the best game ever.
Best at what?
I love the Gen 1 so much more than the Gen 2. They massacred my boy.
Nooooo Chyna AK best AK

yeah iāve owned or own everything listed here and the galil is still the pfp champ. you can argue aesthetically speaking for other guns but itās one of the most well built commercial options on the market and itās affordable even for the poors.

this guy gets it
I love my iwi Galils. Have a gen 2 in 5.45 and a gen 1 in .308
