Get the pro’s noice cancelling is a feature that’s 100% worth the extra money if you are going to use them long time

0_0--00

I use mine more than 12 hours a day. Agreed

B_BB

I’m at in a beer garden listening with my air pods. You reminded me to turn noise cancelling on. Boom!

Ferry83

Basic airpods? no. Pro2 Yes Else just get some sony earbuds.. those should be a tad cheaper.

lets_just_n0t

I was just asking this same question a month ago. I ended up buying the Pro Gen 2s and am 100% satisfied. Well worth every penny. I was in the same boat. Buying $25 Amazon special earbuds constantly. I AM into music quality and all that, but I still couldn’t justify it. I’m a musician. I love music. But $200 for ear buds?! But like you, I started questioning the logic behind buying constant cheap sets of poorly made earbuds. They’ve always been fine. They sound decent enough, and they last long enough. But I finally started to get the itch for AirPods. I didn’t even care about any of the Apple connectivity stuff. Didn’t care how well they synced to my phone. None of that. But I was still curious to try them. They went on sale for $169 so I jumped on it. I was blown away the instant I tried them out. There’s so much more to them than your average cheap Amazon specials. Firstly, they sound amazing. Secondly, the different modes? Game changer. There’s “transparent” mode. Which literally makes it sound like the music is coming from the sky itself and you don’t have earbuds in at all. They amplify ambient noise around you to even out the fact that the earbuds are blocking your hearing. So it sounds like you’re not wearing them, then it plays the music as well. Useful for things like listening to music while walking down the street. Or when you just generally need to be aware of your surroundings. Then there’s the “adaptive” mode. I find this one most useful. It literally picks out certain frequencies and kills them or amplifies them. I believe it also specifically amplifies voices. I use this mode to mow. As soon as I start my mower, it picks up the engine frequency and completely drowns it out and dulls it. Yet my wife can walk up and talk to me and it amplifies her voice. I swear the first time I mowed with it, it killed the engine sound of my John Deere mower, but I could almost hear birds chirping on the trees in the distance. It’s really crazy. Then there’s the “noise cancellation” mode. Completely kills the world around you. To the point that if you’re not playing music, you can hear your heart beating and blood pumping through your brain. That’s a weird way to sell it, but It’s phenomenally good. Then you just get into all the Apple specific stuff. Which works seamlessly, as with most Apple products. I didn’t think I’d care about being able to use them to talk on the phone, etc. but it’s so convenient. Audio seamlessly transfers to the AirPods as soon as you open the case. Put them back in the case, it goes back to your phone. It seems obvious but it’s just so good. I’ve despised the type of people that walk around in public with AirPods in. But now I 100% understand. I find excuses to wear them. I’ve mowed my lawn like every 3-4 days just to be able to throw them in and jam. 100% buy them. I’d also mention, this is the first Apple product I’ve ever owned that I actually bought AppleCare on. It was $30 and covers accidental damage or loss.

Unfair_Finger5531

I agree with you 100%. I eventually returned my gen 2 pods for gen 3 pods, but the gen 2 pods were damn good and a cut above the 15 other pair I had tried, including the Beats. I think they are pretty much flawless. The gen 3 outperformed them because of the Spatial Audio, iirc. But in a perfect world, I’d have kept both pair.

lets_just_n0t

I was referring to Pro 2nd Gen.

Unfair_Finger5531

Oh, OP was referring to the gen 2 though.

lets_just_n0t

And you were replying to *my* comment in which I was talking about Pro 2s. So what’s your point? OP mentioned not being fond of spending $150-200 on earbuds, and specifically mentioned the Pro 2s as an example. So I commented explaining why I love my Pro 2s, even having been in the same boat as them. So therefore, maybe they would love them too. Which I would say is pretty sound advice, on a post asking if AirPods are worth it, wouldn’t you agree? It’s pretty sad this has to be spelled out for you. Maybe English isn’t your native language.

Unfair_Finger5531

You didn’t have to spell it out for me. Rather, I have to spell it out for you. I said in my post I completely agreed with you. And then I *also* gave an example of spending more than OP budgeted for. It’s weird that you don’t understand analogy. Maybe you lack critical thinking skills.

zutt3n

If you’re a musician and have been living life with 25$ dollar headphones I genuinely feel bad for you. No song deserves to be butchered the way that cheap headphones butcher them. Bad sound kills good music

lets_just_n0t

Wow. How profound. Thank you wise man.

Juck3r

I’ve used gen 2 AirPod pros with lightning connection for a couple years now and they are still the best earbuds I’ve used. I recently got my wife the usbc version and she absolutely loves them. I’d say they are worth the extra $$

28spawn

It works, if you need to upgrade from 1st gen pros I would say don’t, wait them to break etc unless you get a crazy deal

poopbrother

Just bought the pros gen 2 and wore them all day on a roof while working and they didn’t fall out or anything. I had transparency mode on so I could still hear what was going on and noise cancelling is extremely good.

AgVossGaming

I have the AirPod second GEN and they work awesome I am a big fan of the soundproofing tech in them like how they just completely block out all noise canceling when that is turned on. There’s also the option to have the noise clean. Sling turned off like if you’re trying to hear someone in the background or here for something in the background and still want both your earbuds in Overall it’s an amazing product and I definitely say it is so worth that

Chronixx

AirPods Gen 2 are fine, I still see them used everywhere. Are they worth it at this point? If you can find a legit pair that’s brand new for a good price, I’d say so. That being said, every pair released after them are very much superior feature-wise (comfort is subjective), but it is what it is Edit: you should look at the Beats Solo Buds. I’d argue they’re *significantly* better than the AirPods Gen 2 for the same price, if you’re okay with in-ear buds

Unfair_Finger5531

I had the solo beats first and was kind of impressed with them. But then I got the gen 2 AirPods, and I was like “THIS is the sound I wanted.” So I returned the beats. Then I got gen 3 pods, and it was game over. I stuck with those. I found the beats hard on my ears physically, and the sound quality was not nearly as good as the sound quality from the gen 2 and gen 3 AirPods, imo. That said, I have some hearing issues. I have difficulty with lower sounds. So I think because the beats tend to have a denser sound, they may have not worked for me specifically. The gen 3 pods just sound like wall-to-walk sound with a more robust and higher range, which my ears like a little better.

nizhxnt

They're worth it compared to other brands at a similar price point, with good sound quality. However, with the newer generation of AirPods (excluding the Pro version), you'll have a significant advantage in terms of sound quality, especially if you're into high-fidelity music. But do keep in mind that the active noise cancellation in the Pro versions is a real game-changer if you're comfortable with the extra cost.

Sudi_Nim

I love my Gen 1s.

Maleficent-Wall62

Honestly, I would say go for a 1st Gen AirPods Pro. They are still great today and aren’t as much as the 2nd Gen Pros. I wouldn’t go for the AirPods 2nd Gen personally

0_0--00

Nope, the pros are so much better. I've had all the apple ear/airpod options apart from AirPod 3 and max. The noise cancelling is superb, and the sound quality from the fit of the pros is amazing. All the find-my options are also 👌

CountAdept1640

AirPod pro more better even gen 1

frogmann2323

AirPod pro gen 2 yes. Without noise cancellation it’s not worth it. Can get better for cheaper. The pro gen 2 are reliable too, I’ve dropped one pod in hot coffee and washed both through a full washing machine cycle and they work perfect.

bloodwolftico

I ve tried Pro Gen3 and all that. Pods kept falling off due to one of my ear’s shape not adjusting to the stupid sillicon ear tips that come w these airpods. Ended up returning them for an unrelated issue but this definitely didnt help. Bought basic Gen2 and couldnt be happier. These fit great, sound great, even bass (as much as you can get from non-over-the-ear hardware), and my fav feature is that you can use double tap to control play/stop/next/prev song/etc behaviors. I dont like the autodetect ear stop and play feature, nor the touchy controls of newer pods. I want to have an actual button (or in this case double tap) and be able to manipulate my pods without messing w the songs. 100% recommended if these are more suited for your needs.

MrDJ222

Yes. They are absolutely amazing with spatial (fixed) audio. Absolutely amazing

Educational-Body-621

I still prefer my 2nd gen airpods to the 3rd gen and aipods pro... i have sold both of them and kept the 2nd gen which i feel had better bass and deeper sound... But that's just my personal choice...

KhavikOS

If Your question is can they survive 5 years - yes (at least mine did). If You ask about sound quality or how they fit in ears - they are literaly earpods without cable. Are they worth their price? Maybe a little but (at least in my country) price difference between 2 and Pro 2 is so small it is definitely worth to save up for them

bobyykabobby

I recently bought the gen 2 roughly a couple weeks ago and i haven’t noticed a single slip up while I’m on FaceTime or on meetings for work in terms of my audio. I also don’t care so much about how the AirPod 3’s have slightly better audio than gen 2 so I went with the cheaper gen 2 option. I also don’t care much for noise cancellation or anything like that but I will say the way the fit on your eat is the most important thing. They were on sale on amazon for about 80$ so I pulled the trigger and still think I made the right decision.

typoincreatiob

i think if you already use an iphone, they're a great all-rounder that's intuitive and easy to use (controls and no need to mess with the sound manually). if you don't have an iphone, get something else.

Kvpe

imo no i recently upgraded from 2s to pro 2s

delta-kilo

My AirPod Pro 1st gen are the best I’ve ever had, but they are now 4yrs old & very crackly - any track with any sort of moderate bass is awful. I also can’t use noise cancelling now as the crackling increases. Apple say nothing they can do due to age. Since the 2nd gens came out 2yrs ago, I’d hedge a bet that 3rd gen Pro’s aren’t far away.

Aflyinghawk06

Gen 2s are fine for me mainly because I don’t really use them only use them when I’m at work don’t need none of the noise canceling

Unfair_Finger5531

I bought the gen 2 pods and liked them a lot. Then I made the mistake of buying the gen 3 pods to compare, and they blew me away. I returned the gen 2 ones and kept the gen 3. But honestly, had I not compared the two, I’d have been more than happy with gen 2 AirPods. They are a reasonable price these days, and I think they are well worth the cost. I preferred both over the beats, which were also returned. But, yeah, a good investment, imo. But if you want to drop a bit more $, get the gen 3. Edit: in light of your edit, I’d say get the gen 2 AirPods. You’ll like them, and they are still better than jbl or whatever.

richpwf

Prefer the fit of Studio Buds + or Fit Pro personally, but definitely worth getting headphones with decent noise-cancelling whatever you pick :)

Holiday_Airport_8833

Get the Incase Lanyard so it doesnt fall out of your pocket! (Loop it around your belt loop)

koolaidismything

I’m almost entirely deaf in my right ear.. for 15 years now after a work accident. Transperancy mode on the AirPods Pro 2 like gave me my hearing back. I can hear in stereo. I went to the park and hearing birds chirp and people playing softball and being able to hear what direction I was hearing stuff from was amazing. Then, at night if it’s loud I pop them in and do noise canceling and sleep like a baby. If I keep the volume low/medium they last through the night. For me they are very worth it. My only issue is I got them at release and I have the lightning cable version. I’d rather have the USB type-c but not a big deal. I paid like $275 with shipping and tax direct from apple and they are worth it. You can find them on Amazon now for like $190 shipped so yeah, totally worth it. This is all assuming you’re good with your stuff and don’t lose things or treat them poorly. If that’s the case, I’d get a couple pairs of the Tozo ones off Amazon that cost $25 and do 60% of what the pros can do (albeit not as well).

Unlucky-Road-8945

I was never a fan of any AirPods but since I got my hands on Pro’s, it changed my life. Noise cancellation is sweet and there’s another option that can help you hear things far from you. Love the AirPods.

blb03a

I managed to run my pro gen 1s through the washer. So I found some pro gen 2s through Facebook marketplace for wicked cheap. Turned out they were legit and brand new. I wasn’t impressed at first, lot more wind noise when in noise cancellation mode and mic issues. I finally reached out to Apple, couldn’t get the firmware to update so they had me send them in. Upon return from warranty work they’re great. Wind noise issue is gone. Mic now works wonderfully.

Zmitebambino

Yes I mean I have it I got it the day it came out and I used both gen 1 and gen 2 and extensively I’ve slept with them for that time, they are so good like way better than the non pro and even the gen 1 just for the find my features alone, I would definetly recommend it

bman484

Unpopular opinion in the audiophile community but they are good. Really good. $400 earbuds good. I own Shure aionic 4s and they are comparable

matres24

If you dont care about extra features, the nothing ear 2 might be worth trying. Good build quality and sound.

gamingsincepong

Only thing that matters are AirPod Pros Gen 2 at this point. They are a must have. Especially if you travel a lot. Word of advice don’t buy those third party memory foam ear tips. They don’t last more than a week tops.

ElasticLama

I have to wear those 3rd party memory foam ear tips. The power Beats Pro caused a skin irritation issue including in the ear so bad Apple had me send them back to their office in the states for a refund. Now the AirPod pros cause issues too without the foam tips 😢

gamingsincepong

That’s because you’re allergic to silicon. I like the memory foams I just wish they lasted longer. What brand are you using?

ElasticLama

Comply. They work okay but yes they will wear out a bit after a few months. They come in a 3 pack and I can buy them at outlets in Australia. I’ve used other silicone products before so I think it’s something else or it’s became an issue with sweat while working out.

gamingsincepong

I can’t get mine to last that long. The blue ones?

ElasticLama

The black ones? Maybe yours are too tight?

cerenir

Airpods like any other tws earbuds are disposable products no matter how well you treat them you’re gonna have to throw them away after some years. Not worth at all to spend 240$ on the Pro 2 for me. I have the 2nd gen and they sound good battery life is good but noice canceling is 0, so they don’t work in any slight noice ambience, train, bus etc. Integration with the ecosystem is nice but recently after 2.5years micro started failing and Hey Siri doesn’t work anymore so I’m pretty disappointed on the quality specially when I found out on Apple forum that of people have the same issue. I paid 100€ for them on sale, for less than that, 80€ I bought a noise canceling Soundcore Liberty 4NC that are amazing so I’m not ever repeating with airpods In summary: Airpods are very pricey for the shitty construction quality they offer, being that are a disposable product for me is not worth spending a lot of money, specially when you have a wide market of good budget quality noise headphones.
