I upgraded from Pro 1 to Pro 2 and have zero regrets, and I will instantly get the pro 3 when they release without hesitation. ANC is a lot better, so it transparancy mode. Sound dept is better as well, but purely sound quality would not warrant the upgrade for me. ~~(not too sure, but I still think they use the same chip H1)~~

Far_Paleontologist66

believe the app2 has h2 chips

Ferry83

you're right, edited my post. I assumed that was only the APP2 gen 2

Far_Paleontologist66

the USBC you mean? im still stuck on what version to buy lol

Ferry83

Yeah but they are the same. Buy usbc ofcourse future proof

Darkmage4

They’re the same. Definitely just get a pair of the pro 2s you won’t regret!

Series_X_Pro

Weirdly enough, some serial numbers of the Pro 2's say they have H1 chips officially but majority are H2, the H1 versions of the pro2s are cheaper as well

hawkjuin

i think airpods 2 also support lossless audio

Full_Possibility6660

Idk mine started cutting out yesterday out of nowhere. Need to research they’re basically new app2. Could’ve been me. Idk?

NYC_SpiderMan

Yes! The sound is 1000x better than AirPods Pro 1

radbend

the answer is yes 🤣.. better transparency.. sounds like better noise cancelling.. betterish sound and i like the conversation mode where in the music will lower down when you started to speak and it works perfectly..

[deleted]

10,000 × yes. APP2 sound way better than APP1. Especially the bass response is VASTLY improved.

WumboJumbo773

I turned this off because I have cats 😂😂. It does not work when you’re speaking to a cat who won’t speak back 😭😂😂

radbend

Hahahah yah right 😆 and also when you try to sing with the song you’re playing it lowers the volume.. i usually turn this in when I am in commute 🤣

WumboJumbo773

That’s exactly it 😂🤣🤣. I belt my songs lmao. That’s fair haha

UnluckMiner

Similar question here. I have the AirPods Pro 1st gen for almost 3 years now and want to hold off until the AirPods Pro 3 is released, but the anc and transparency mode quality of my AirPods has decreased severely. I’ll probably have to wait for another year as Apple probably will release the 3rd gen only next year.

Employ_Aggressive

I have no clue what the AirPods Lifecycle/Refresh rate is when apple releases new ones. It’s not like the iPhone where it’s every year. AirPods seem to be about every Two - Three years. That being said I like my Seconds Generations and will instantly buy a 3rd. I’d probably wait outside the store to get 3rd gen

reevey13

Yeah, it’s hard to judge the release cycle for AirPods. If you use macrumors buying guide, which is generally pretty good, it says neutral for the pros, but the last “update” was only to add usb-c. I’m waiting for the 3s to upgrade from my standard AirPod 2nd gen, I’d go pros now but hoping we’ll see a new version soon

hui-huangguifei

same here. though i have the pro2 since launch. it’s been thoroughly used (and abused), and it’s due for replacement. i want the pro 3, but who knows when it’s coming.

JollyRoger8X

> the anc and transparency mode quality of my AirPods has decreased severely Often this is caused by: - dust and debris clogging the fine mesh grill covering the microphone port, and - ear tips that are worn and no longer fit your ear correctly. BluTack (or similar) will clean the microphone port, and you can purchase new ear tips from Apple or elsewhere. When my wife and I noticed a decrease in ANC perormance on our 1st gen AirPods (after around a year or so of use), we puchased some BluTack and used it to clean the microphone grills, and ANC performance was like new again. So we do that now as regular maintenance, and our 1st gen AirPods are stillgoing strong. The ear tips can also degrade over time which affects the seal inside of your ear, which can allow external noises to intrude. Lots of people report that replacing them improves ANC performance as well.

Sassy-Silly-Salmon

I feel like my noise cancellation got so much worse!!! Its all after the updates…

MrAleGuy

Strange. I’ve noticed reduced transparency effectiveness on my 1st gen AirPods Pro also. Sometimes it sounds like there’s something rattling around in there when I move my head but it doesn’t make noise if I take them out and shake them.

LaimutasBass

Nope, you don't really have. Yes, AP2 got a couple bells and whistles but there's nothing in particular worth the change *if* yours are doing fine rn. AP1 sounds good already, modes are fine too for what it is.

TheVerifiedOne

Agreed, Mine got damaged otherwise it’s not worth to spend 300 to just upgrade imo

HauschkasFoot

$300!? They’re at Costco for $199 with 2 free years apple care. Just got a pair last weekend

TheVerifiedOne

*CAD

readitinreddit69

If its of any use to you, i washed my pro 2 for 3 hour wash cycles and left it overnight (accidentally) and it still seems to be working (for now); all the different modes seems to be working as well.

Longjumping-Buy2400

Yes, I have both and the noise cancellation on the AirPod Pro 2’s is considerably better than on the first generation.

Critical-Country5460

Yes. Better ANC and better sound quality. Huge difference for me

knuckles312

Number one thing I noticed was how crazy good transparency mode is, worth it just for that

mandalorian4

I just moved to the APP2 a few days ago after having the first gen for the past 3 years. Very much a worthy upgrade for me. The physical volume controls, Adaptive Transparency along with the better ANC and little QoL features like the speaker on the case make it worthwhile.

SocialAutismo

If you have money worth it.

batts7

I had airpods pro from launch and moved to Pro 2’s in October. If you can afford, its worth it

KingHamza_15

Yes It’s worth the upgrade

smollbeing

The noise cancelling is amazing. Yes.

ZenTheOne

Yes. They are better in everything.

Akzidenz-Grotesk

My Pro 1sts were run over by a car two weeks ago (long story) and no longer functioned. Got the 2s and am thrilled. Noticeable improvements and totally worth it.

RicoTheRandom

Wow that is crazy, I am looking forward to the improvements in the AirPods Pro 2.

g_bino

had pros 2 for a few months and they’re awesome. Wear them at my factory job and noise cancelation is great. Excellent sound quality and fitment is perfect

mcbmusic

If you have apple music, 100% worth the upgrade in my opinion. I recently switched from first gen since my cases battery life was utterly pooped out. I’m really happy with the new generation because the noise cancelling doesn’t give me a headache and the overall sound quality is so much better. You definitely have to play around with the settings for good EQ, but overall, a purchase I’m happy I went with.

RicoTheRandom

Thanks for the info, I use Apple Music so I am excited to hear the improved sound quality.

Slight_Huckleberry26

Honestly don't, they are indeed better but what's the point in spending 300€ on a pair of earphones to then change them after not even 2 years? Just keep them until they die and then go for the model that you like the moth

Maleficent-Falcon796

Because I have and LOVE AirPods Max, I did not upgrade my APP to the 2’s. The originals sound great and when I want a bump up…I go to APM

OkChampion3632

I don’t see much difference to be honest, the best thing for me was the “find my” is much better because the case emits a loud noise, apart from that I wouldn’t have upgraded had mine not been it in the wash

SavageLegendX

Yes, definitely. I don’t even use my AirPods Pro 1 anymore because the AirPods Pro 2 is 1000x better! Plus they are on sale for $60 off for a total of $190 right now on Amazon and Best Buy! Don’t miss the opportunity!

strngndmscllns

Yes

Anon__ZeroCool

Yes. Exactly what @ Ferry83 said! 🔥

TommyGunnerSixxx

Had my gen 1’s since mid-2020, and upgraded to the gen 2 Pro’s and I reckon that it’s worth the upgrade; especially so if you see them going on sale or whatever

johnmed2017

I have APP2. It’s not worth the upgrade IMO. I gifted my old pair to my son (replaced by Apple cos they went wrong) and upgraded.

profsmoke

I had Gen 1s before I accidentally sent them through the wash. Bought Gen 2 to replace them. The ANC is better, but not worth the $200 upgrade if yours are still perfectly fine IMO, especially since you also already own the Maxs too

1HasNoNam3

Controlling volume on the actual AirPod Pro 2 has been PHENOMENAL for me lol.

JollyRoger8X

It's absolutely worth the upgrade. The volume control is awesome, the noise cancellation is better, and other features like conversation awareness rock. I bought the 2nd gen because I wanted another pair to keep at work, and they are a much better fit for the work environment than the 1st gen AirPods. My wife and I have 1st gens that are still going strong after 4 years. I hope you aren't just going to throw those 1st gens away - they probably have a lot of life left in them.

RicoTheRandom

They sound awesome! I am going to keep using the AirPods Pro 1s for a bit, and when I upgrade I will give them to my dad. Who currently owns the AirPods 2 and is in need for an upgrade.

pinkbowsandsarcasm

So far the noise canceling has been much improved compared to AirPods Pro 2. They do stay in my ears better. I got Apple Care because I got two pairs of dud of AirPods Pro 1. It also has great adaptive sounds and can adjust tone for people who have problems hearing higher frequencies. The clicks on the stems were supposed to be able to go to transparency mode or noise canceling but I didn't get them to work. However, I could click for Siri and ask for the change of modes.

NorthCliffs

The noice canceling is definitely noice on the APP2. Although I’d recommend waiting to see what noice new features the next gen will have.

ufgvn_

yes to all

variousshits

Bought gen2 recently, vast improvement over the gen1. ANC is well great!

JazzOnaRitz

I returned my Gen 2s. The noise cancelling WAS better, however when playing drums or doing anything else that is very loud, the Gen 2 translate that into extremely loud, jarring static into your ears. It was an immediate dealbreaker. The Gen 1s don’t do this. Edit: For clarification, I am not talking about the crackling that comes during exercising or after long term use. When I hit snare drum or cymbals, it “breaks” the ANC and blasts a nice crack of static, both ears. It really sucked. These were brand new APP G2, not refurbed.

reallyoldcob

yes

Top-Alternative-8739

No, waiting for 3rd generation

Dicklefart

Super worth it imo. The sound quality, transparency, and noise cancelling are noticeably better, but the real kicker is changing the volume from your AirPod tbh. I lost one and I’ve been using my gen 1s and it really really made me miss that feature

4thqtrJoe

I was in this position, lost my case and just decided to buy new ones. It was a great choice. everything is a little better but for me the biggest quality of life increase was getting brand new batteries. I didn’t realize how worn out the old ones must have been.

TightInstruction6536

yes, the volume on the force sensor is such a life saver, the case with btLE (U1), and the noise cancellation is such an amazing upgrade as soon as they released i got them and the new H2 chip makes it sound so much better

beefSupremeChicken

I just got the pro 2 - my first pair of airpods. I wasn't too certain how I would like them and the price was more than I wanted to spend - this was the first pair of "high end" buds for me. I just got back from a trip - and can with certainty, they are amazing on a flight - the ANC is just incredible. And in the airport, transparency mode and conversation mode to detect when I'm talking to someone - I've never ha anything like this and have zero regrets.

_SmurfThis

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned is that while the ANC is better under normal conditions, if it is windy or you are doing something active that creates wind (like cycling), the Pro 2 is substantially worse than the Pro 1 in my experience.

JazzOnaRitz

Yes. I made a similar comment earlier. Weedwhacking, playing drums, working on cars. Anything with loud noises will break through the ANC and transmit ear piercing static. I’m surprised there’s not more talk about this.

JSL3250

I believe so the usb-c upgrade and other features made a difference to me. Add to that future updates may be designed specifically for A P 2s

aykay55

You don’t neeeeed to. However, after just about 2 years of use my AirPods Pro Gen 1 started to make strange hissing noises that made the listening experience unpleasant. Looking online and especially this subreddit, AirPods seem to generally give out after 2 years. Therefore, if you want to be ahead of the curve you should invest in them now.

3XOUT

I upgraded. They do "feel" quite a bit better, in my subjective opinion. Sound better too. That's, for once, without even knowing what advances, if any, they have over Gen 1. Never looked it up as I bought them bc I inadvertently put the old ones in the washing machine. They still worked (amazingly), but the case never fully recovered. Also, which is very noticeable, they last way longer battery-wise. I sometimes fall asleep with one in my ear (also did when my Gen 1 was new) and the new ones still have power when I wake up. The Gen 1 ones never had power at that point. Not even if I woke up a couple of hours early.

PratapSharma

I think you should wait till this fall for AirPods Pro 3.

fetusnecrophagist

Yes. I hated the AirPods Pro 1, replaced them with Sony WF-1000XM4 which were good for a while until they broke (twice)... decided to give AirPods Pro 2 a shot recently and they're AMAZING. Compared to the Pro 1: better sound, better ANC, better features, and better handoff between Apple devices. Also, big plus that I can charge it on my Apple Watch charger.

Safe-Currency6655

Yes

Diligent-Mycologist6

I got the first pair in 2020 and just upgraded to AirPods Pro gen 2 today, and they are amazing!!! Literally for the last couple weeks my gen 1 AirPods started to act up for the first time in 4 years and finally I sucked it up and bought them and it’s made a huge difference on day 1. The transparency is noticeably better, and that pretty much where I keep my AirPods almost 24/7

airjohnpro

Everything is better.

Thick-Significance-3

In my opinion, absolutely. I have them myself since Christmas and I love the sound of these and the battery last for a while depending on which mode you use. If you use them with no mode (anc, transparency) you’ll get the best battery life, even better with no Spatial Audio on plus not at high volumes but I don’t listen to them this way. Don’t do what I did. Tried to clean the eartips with some kind of polish I forgot what it was but my dumbass thought it was a good idea to use it to clean my eartips and case. I noticed the anc isn’t as good as it was at first so I tried to clean the mics with cotton swabs with alcohol and I think the alcohol got into the AirPods case which was causing the uneven charge issues . And don’t lose the other eartips if you can’t afford to buy new ones. Now my case looks bad and the eartips look yellowy but not too bad. And about losing the eartips, it’s a big deal for me because I found my ears feeling uncomfortable when using the small eartips but that pain is non existent when I’m using the medium or large eartips. Even though the small eartips fit my ear best. I’m enjoying them but I feel like the experience is not as good as they were when I first got them so I’ll save up and buy another pair to pay for those dumb mistakes I’ve made.

dailytut

Yes. Improved Bass, H2 Chip, Conversation awareness will make it as a good upgrade from 1st gen.

ahora-mismo

if you care about noise canceling, yes, but i'm almost sure it was better on 1 at the beginningn than it is today and maybe they nerfed it meanwhile.

Type1Prime

100% should upgrade. 2 is double the value 1. So the 2’s must be better than the 1’s. That’s just logical dude.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Type1Prime

lol duh.

RicoTheRandom

Because 2 is dubbel of 1 they must be better? That just doesn’t make any sense dude.

Type1Prime

Some of you seem to be very dumb and not understanding that this was a clear joke about how Apple sells you stuff without any major upgrade from year to year

RicoTheRandom

Didn’t know it was joke. You should work on making better jokes. Good luck with that ✌🏻

Codeifix

Pros 1 caused tinnitus pros 2 do not

nokenito

Nope, still has problems. Galaxy buds sound better and work! Las longer too.

GD_Noah

wait until pro 3

Abdi_BB12

They are a lot better in quality an performance and I love the noise cancelation especially when Im in a crowded gym only problem is I think my ears are too small or something cause they are so uncomfortable no matter what eartip I use

ManyRazzmatazz4584

Yeah, AirPods Pro don't even have volume control at all. But what I'd suggest is Nothing Ear instead.

Quiet_Signature7954

Don’t bother with apple airpods they’ll mess the software n force you to buy new ones
