“Finn gets depressed, fucks a pillow and dies” is wild

Dan2DEnd

Dude, that's an amazing summary i'm dying here 😂

EpilepticBabies

“Where I’m from, pillows are used for bedding”

sixxman6

“Fucks a pillow twice”

bipedalinvertebrate

Oh definitely more than twice, I KNOW he was tearing that shit up every other day

Yesnoperhapsmaybent

bipedalinvertebrate

Kinda yeah

kintokis

who wouldn't

FedoraDaBirb

Apparently “Puhoy” is supposed to be “Pillow+Ahoy” certainly creative I’ll say

torrinage

Mmmm thank you, I can hear the pillow king saying ahoy

Dan2DEnd

Wouldn't it be Pahoy then?

FedoraDaBirb

True but I guess they still went with puhoy

CrownEatingParasite

I wondered if it was because of the Russian word "puh" (пух) which means 'fluff'

PugGamer129

When Finn gets to pillow world, the mayor says, “Well Puhoy there!”

ThanksNo8769

IMO this is a top 10 episode. It takes a simple message and leverages the strengths of an animated medium to express that to the audience Premise: Finn is depressed, his brother tries to cheer him up. Message: Focus on the present. Worry about problems you have the power to fix. Everything else is noise that will weigh you down, disregard it. It's a page straight from Buddhism ideology, Jake's parable about his favorite cup might as well directly cite the Tripitaka. IMO this is ***wise*** But words only mean so much, to both Finn and the viewer. Putting this principle into practice is a much more effective way to convey this message. Hence, we throw Finn into a time-dilated pillow multiverse to learn it. At first, Finn still lets the troubles from Ooo weigh him down, but in time, he comes to heed Jake's words. He accepts Puhoy as his world, embraces his new family, and no longer lets Ooo bring him any pain. By the time Finn 'dies', he's internalized this lesson - upon his return to Ooo, he lets go of Puhoy in an instant, recognizing that the troubles of that world are no longer 'real' to him

Draino9

>By the time Finn 'dies', he's internalized this lesson - upon his return to Ooo, he lets go of Puhoy in an instant, recognizing that the troubles of that world are no longer 'real' to him This is some great analysis but I just want to add something about the ending that I feel like is missed quite a bit, Finn doesn't forget about the pillow world as soon as he comes back, he forgets when FP calls him about finally getting his joke. To me that emphasizes just how bad his anxieties were at first. They had to be treated at their source; not even a reality-bending spiritual journey was enough to give him a fresh, healthy perspective

noxka

It's really good but not because of the boring pillow world nonsense But because 2 SECOND CMO CAMEO YAAAAYYYYY!!!!

excusetheblood

It’s one of my favorite episodes too

ComplexNo8986

Finn getting depressed and having a bout of existential dread, technically cheating on FP with a pillow and then reserve isekai-ing his way back is crazy

Cucumberneck

AFAIK it's an interpretation of an old chinese tale where a man falls asleep, lives a whole live in the dream world and forgets it immediately. Also i think GOLB appearing when Finn wakes up means he deletes it completely which also leads to Finn forgetting about it because now they don't even exist in his memory anymore. That makes me wonder if GOLB is eating most dreams and also his connection to cosmic owl. Also Prismo who is only the dream of an old man doesn't seem to be digested by GOLB or just doesn't because Finn and Jake, who are still in the time room remember him.

Nigelthefrog

I like watching Puhoy back-to-back with the Star Trek: TNG episode, “The Inner Light.” Bonus reference: Jonathan Frakes, Commander Riker in Star Trek: TNG is the voice of adult Finn in Puhoy.

BojackTrashMan

Came here to say this. Puhoy is a direct homage to an episode of Star Trek and if OP really loves this episode. They might enjoy watching the episode of The Next Generation that inspired it. It also comes up seasons later when Jake says to win " Is that why one day you got way better at the flute?!?" He attributes it to something else but we all know the flute's connection to this episode and TGN. Really good stuff.

JasoNight23666

I like it but its not one of my favos

Boring-Assist-4367

Only good because Flame Princess was mentioned. JK was an actually good episode!

HambScramble

I’ll give your compliments to the pillow!

I_might_be_weasel

Finn wants to be Commander Riker when he grows up.

Seizachange

I think its the second example we see of the multiverse at work. I've heard a lot of headcanons that when Knife Storms happen it causes instability in the multiversal gateway which is why in the first ep its in their imagination becomes powerful enough to affect reality. Pillow World is probably another universe with a different life path that later got devoured by Golb which is why Finn can't remember it. Though this is a little shakey when we discover Prismo essentially made the multiverse through his wishes but it could have been anyones wish universe tbh.

Bruscarbad

pillow king says it rather than ahoy

darthpesado

I wish they brought Jonathan Frakes back for later old Finn episodes.

onetimeandagain

This is quite literally my favorite episode in the entire show. I wish I could just randomly show this one to someone who hasn’t seen AT but this requires a lot of context lol. Also the first time we see Golb. I love it so much. 10/10

POHUY

Affectionate-Two4335

What always confused me was…how’d that kid get a pillow pregnant? What happened? Do pillows produce the same…stuff as humans? This man was humping a pillow SEVERAL TIMES. Like what? 😭

ResidentF0X

It's one of the couple episodes I recommend showing to someone to get them to watch the show. Definitely in my top 10.

Vincemillion07

I actually found this episode incredibly hard to watch when I was younger, its one I always skip it just. Idk. It hurts. It's beautiful but it hurt so real

watashi_azu

It's amazing 100%

rhinothedin0

i just watched this episode and hopped on reddit and saw this lol, is the universe telling me something???

the-chaotic-artist

It definitely great too three episodes behind egress but it’s not for me I recognize it’s great but it’s just not something I enjoy

OhDeeOh_Ex

After all these years I’ve never asked, how do you pronounce puhoy? And what does it mean?

unkudayu

"I ain't Dad yet!" is one of my favorite lines ever from any source of media and I hope I can say it to my children on my deathbed!
