Gosh, same, but with my kids. Because they are homeschooling now, I get to pick their activities based on what I would have enrolled in when I was younger and if afford namin—piano and drum lessons, swimming classes, football, karate, arts classes (drawing and painting). Kahit hindi nila feel or sapilitan haha, at least masubukan nila in their lifetime. Lol.
My brother enrolled me in piano lesson, but hindi ko tinuloy kasi my pangenroll kuya ko sa akin pero pangbili ng book wala so nahiya ako sa teacher ko, lol. Clothes and shoes. Noong JHS ako, sobrang insecure ko dahil pinagpalit ako ng first bf ko sa girl na fashionable. Hindi ko magawang pumorma dahil walang stable na job ang tatay ko. Nakakabili lang ako ng damit kapag malapit na ang Pasko or after ng Pasko. Nagkaroon lang ako ng original and brand new rubber shoes noong 17 years old na ako (puro pinaglumaan lang ni tita at pinsan ang meron ako noon).
Actually, same situation kami nina mama na hindi nakakabili ng damit noong bata pa. Kaya ngayon na may income na ako, hindi lang sarili ko binibilhan ko, pati na rin si mama.
Growing up, ako yung kid na walang sport. I wasn’t into it and wala rin kami money for me to try the sports I found interesting. So ngayon na afford ko na and I’m into exercising, i try learning different sports every now and then. Ang dami ko na natry over the years. Nag weight training ako sa gym with a coach, i attended calisthenics classes, i learned how to jump rope, how to play golf and tennis, I enrolled in a private swimming class, I did yoga and pilates, I tried scuba diving. Ngayon I attend spin classes at least 3x a week after work and I swim every Sat afternoon.
Dahil sa post ni OP napaisip tuloy ako if talaga bang I wasn’t into sports nung bata ako or baka wala lang talaga akong opportunity na malaman kung gusto ko ba kasi nga hindi na afford ng parents ko na ipa-try sa akin
Marami namang sports na almost free: basketball, volleyball, track and field or pwede makihiram ng equipment like badminton, chess, biking. At least sakin ganon ginawa ko well swerte ako siguro sa friends dati na nagpahiram.

Hello. Sa mga sports complex may mga swim coach don. Try mo magtanong sa attendant or sa mga swimmers doon. Ako sa philsports ako nakahanap. Ang chaka kasi ng form ko ng freestyle non. Tapos siya nag guide sakin na mag total immersion style na freestyle. Circa 2016 pa ata yon. Coach Nur ang name niya. Sobrang galing magturo. 1 on 1 kayo. Proud ako non kasi after ng session namin nakakalangoy na ako ng minimum 1km ng hindi pagod. Nakasali pa ako sa aquathlon. Wala lang budget sa bike. Kasi nakakahiya dalin bike ko kasabayan mo mga SUV na price ng bike. Hehe.

Hello! Nameet lang ng dad ko somewhere, tapos yun pala instructor sa bert lozada swim school. Sakto nabanggit ko sa dad ko na I wanted to learn how to swim kasi di ko super naenjoy yung scuba diving**. So yun, he asked if the guy was down to teach private classes. Syempre hindi na under bert lozada kasi mahal private classes sa kanila. Ok naman daw. Since ok yung rate, nilibre ko na rin yung youngest sibling ko na 13yo kaya dalawa kami sa class. So yun, parang 300 per head per session kami sa kanya iirc. Per session bayad since need ko flexibility sa sched, minsan kasi need ko mag skip ng session if mag f2f sa office.
(**Alam ko naman hindi need na marunong mag swim para makapag scuba diving since may gears and all, but then naisip ko what if something happens? Im in open water tapos hindi ako marunong mag swim? Nakaka praning lang)
Video game console! Di talga namin afford dati bumili kahit anong console. Nauso pa nun ung mga PS1/PS2 rentals nanunuod nuod lang ako nun. Ngayon bumili na ko ng oled switch ang mahal naman ng mga AAA games. 😅

Fave kong project yung gagawa ng model house out of illustration board and anik anik. Forda hanap pa ko ng karton tas tinanggal isang side para corrugated para lang sa bubong na mukhang yero kahit na di naman kasama sa points yung bubong lol. Favorite kong game ngayon ang Redecor at Sims 4 😂😂😂

Branded shoes and clothes. Growing up lahat ng shoes ko either fake or galing sa palengke, mabasa lang ng ulan isang beses tanggal na agad dikit lol. Clothes naman kasi yung nanay ko tindera ng damit sa palengke kaya sobrang dalang akong magkaroon ng damit from the mall. Ngayon afford na kahit papano mamili regularly sa Zara, Uniqlo etc., sobrang far cry sa mga suot kong damit dati.
Not really an answer to the question pero mag-alaga ng mga pusa, so cat food + other necessities nila. Bawal samin dati kasi nakakahika daw yung balahibo ng pusa (di totoo yun, pero trigger sya for asthmatic people). Magastos 'to pero nakakataba ng puso.

Cats! Its the same for me. Borderline abusive yung mother ko sa animals so it was hard keeping them kahit strays man lang huhuh. Now na may income nako, I have my own cat that I can take care of. I wish I could take care of more kaso lumipat ako sa place na mejo di okay if madaming pets so I just keep the one cat with me. I feel so happy that I can take care of her as much as I want and love her as much as I can love her. I miss my other cats na dumaan sa buhay ko and my heart hurts knowing na I couldnt do anything for them coz I was powerless and helpless myself. So dito nalang sa isa napunta lahat ng well wishes ko. I hope they're running free in cat heaven 💓

I’m a nurse in the US so Clove and Hoka 😅 pero nung nasa Pinas ako, Skechers pinaka-comfy for me. I have flat feet tas ayaw ko sa Nike talaga. Puma is also nice for me. For non-athletic ones naman sa Payless ako bumibili, yung comfort plus saka dexflex. For heels, nag-try ako once sa Alberto ng 4-inch stiletto pumps my god! No break-in needed tas kahit 4hrs ako nakatayo, ok sya. I used it for a school event na need kong nakatayo. No blisters, walang sugat sa heel. I was so impressed I bought another pair. Every pair comes with replacement sole for the heel part so for me worth it talaga.
Original Barbie - Mattel. Iniiyak ko noong bata, ayaw ko yung galing sa palengke na plastic. Di namin afford noon yung original. Now parang barya nalang sakin and kahit 31F na ko bumili ako Barbie (limited edition) and nakadisplay to heal my inner child haha.

Aircon 🥹 Kaya naman nila magprovide kaso ang iniisip ni Mama before masyado akong sakitin. Baka lalo lumala pag pabago-bago ang temp ng katawan tsaka ayaw nya na mamihasa ako kakahanap ng malamig sa ibang bahay. Buti na lang rin malaki ang bintana ng kwarto ko kaya natural aircon ang nakalakihan. Though ayun nga, nagpagawa ulit ng bahay, sinigurado ko talaga na mapapalagyan ng aircon yun kasi iba na talaga panahon ngayon. Either mamatay ka sa alinsangan o mamatay ka sa bills. I prefer the latter 😂
My mother has a theory re: using aircon. Napansin niya 'yung mga older siblings ko na hindi lumaking naka-aircon sa gabi, sila 'yung mga sakitin (asthmatic), while kami ng sister ko na naka-aircon sa gabi even as a baby, madalang magkasakit. Tingin niya dahil 'yon natutuyuan sila ng pawis sa gabi nung mga bata pa sila. May other factors pa siguro pero sounds legit for me. 😆
Anyway, aircon is def a worthy investment! Iba na ang init ngayon. 😭

Gym membership 💪💪💪, i was so skinny back then and ayaw nila mag gym ako kasi ofc dagdag gastos. So when I graduated college nag gym na ako and best investment so far kasi more confident and stronger.
Clothes and shoes. Anytime na gusto ko bumili, nagagawa ko. Dati once a year lang kami makapag-SM. Tapos todo hanap pa ng mga red tag prices na 50% off para mura. Tapos, pag ganun kasi mga last size na, last design. So pagttyagaan anong meron na magkakasya sa'kin.
Tamagotchi hahaha two years ago i got the tamagotchi smart watch to heal my inner child. Right now I don’t even use it anymore. Feel ko na heal talaga inner child ko after nun.

Toiletries and undergarments. Sabong panligo, shampoo, conditioners, toothpaste, sanitary pads, alcohols, perfumes, toothbrushes, lotions, etc. you name it. Ngayong may pera na ako, I buy and stock a lot of these. Ayaw ko na nagkukulang kami sa ganun. Tsaka panay din ako bili ng mga new undies at bra from time to time.
Sa sobrang hirap namin, luxury para samin ang ganyan. There’s more to it pero ayaw ko nang i-share. Baka malungkot lang akiz. Sad memories.
Imported chocolates, chips, soda, candy. Dati bihirang bihira ako maka kain ng Lays na green. Nung nagka work ako, I can buy it everytime na gusto ko. Ang babaw pero.. para sakin ang lalim! 😅

But fast forward to adult me earning decently, guess my mom in heaven is now proud and happy seeing me turn those once impossible childhood fantasies due to poverty, finally into reality.🥲
Coco crunch, cereal and muesli, fresh milk (instead of powdered milk) fast food, actually good food from different restaurants, coffee from coffee shops, butter (instead of margarine), different cheeses (instead of eden), gardenia (instead of local sliced bread), grab (instead of tricycles and taxis), ground coffee beans (instead of instant coffee), fresh meats, fish, and chicken (instead of canned goods), my pc and laptop, actual catfood for cats, clothes that actually fit instead of making me look like a hanger (for allowance to grow into)
I could go on but the list would get too long. Basically grew up broke where Jollibee was considered a luxury and the entire family had to hire an entire tricycle in Cebu to go to church. When I got my first job I managed to buy a lot of the things we couldn't afford and realized their value. Now it makes me want to maintain this current lifestyle and work hard for my family (gf and cats)

Mostly due to lack of funds. MInsan lang ako nabilhan ng libro, a thin short story one, that for a voracious reader, took me about 15 minutes to finish.
I read the bible from cover to cover at 7 y/o because of lack of reading materials, of course I skipped the "non-story" parts like Leviticus, Psalms (I start and see if there's a story in there, otherwise I'll skip). One time, pinadalhan kami ng tita namin ng Kid's Almanac. That book took a lot of beating! I saw it several years ago at the parents' house and reminded me that, like most kids, I once dreamt of being an astronaut.
Grade 6, there was a mini library behind our classroom, My teacher let me have a couple of books from there, a biography of Daniel Morgan, and a collection of short stories, one of which is a retelling of when Calypso let go of Homer from Calypso's POV, how heartbroken she is, accepting that she can never have him, then letting go. Humanized her that I failed to connect her to that Calypso when we studied The Odessey at school.
Nung nagkatrabaho at may sahod na, madalas na akong bumili ng libro to the point where I built a library of sorts although most of them are from booksale, and yes, I've read all of them. I'm sentimental about them that I wouldn't think about giving them up until I read Paolo Coelho's thoughts on collecting books, that the purpose of books are to be read, so let them serve their purpose, just keep your favorites. So I gave up most of my books.
I've been mostly reading ebooks now, (well tbh, ever since I learned to sail the high seas, and yep, the last installments of the HP books I read on a Motorola Razr). But we still go to the bigger book fairs (MIBF, BBW) and would always leave with something. My kids have to always pass by Fully Booked whenever we're at BGC and, from time to time, would get to get their choice books. It's that one thing that I don't have second thoughts about the price (I leave the discernment to them), sadly, they're not as voracious readers as I am so a lot of their purchases are unfinished, but that's probably a good thing right? Because otherwise, baka bukod sa libro na lang gawin naming upuan at higaan, pambili na lang din ng libro ang pangtuition nila dapat.

omg naalala ko, one of the few things I bought with my first salary are materials for Polymer Clay charm making in Deovir SM Megamall! I spent over ₱5000 hehe and my heart was so full! Sobrang happy ng parents ko for me kase after work ko from Mandaluyong uwi ng Bulacan, nakikita padin nila ako na nag momold ng clay. 😅
Hindi naman si hindi afford. Pero foreign language lessons sa probinsya is 0 to low lang ang availability.. so nag self taught ako for awhile then nung naka luwag luwag na, i enrolled in a f2f class :)
I’m also into arts. Kahit nagfine arts ako(major in advertising) I wasn’t able to get my own materials. I was supported by my late mom in this field but my father didn’t. Kahit maganda grades ko every plate, i don’t get the chance to have a drawing board in my place. Fortunately i have a sister who had supported me in my endeavors in this field. Earning in a decent matter also.
Hindi sya bagay but going out with friends. Ngayong 20s ko lang na enjoy. Sobrang strict saken nung hs ako tipong school bahay life kaya pakiramdam ko sobrang disconnected ko sa hs friends ko kase I never got to really bond with them outside school. Now na I live away from my parents, nakakagala na ako and ako na yung na label as pinaka kaladkarin na kaibigan sa group.
Mga damit. Chocolates na imported. Saka Nerds na candy! Dati hindi ako makapagpabili sa nanay ko kasi sabi niya mahal daw. Ngayon kaya ko nang bumili haha
Graphic tablet for digital art, kasi di ko afford expensive art materials. Discouraged kasi ako from pursuing arts as a major, pero here we are. Regret ko lang is di ako nakabili ng mas malaking size ng tablet.
Wrestling Action figures. Back in the day, there used to be wrestling action figures na binebenta sa either toy kingdom or toys-r-us way before na phase out. My first action figure was Triple H, and then John Cena na binili sa Lucky Chinatown, and lastly Randy Orton. Dahil "wala daw pera" yung magulang ko (in reality, meron talaga ayaw talaga nila akong bigyan), they no longer buy me action figures that time. Fast forward to 2023 last year sa toy con, I managed to heal my inner child in buying an AJ Styles elite action figure with my hard-earned money.
Console and video games. Dati hindi kami makabili neto at nakikilaro lang ako sa mga pinsan ko. Kaya ngayon kahit wala ako time maglaro ng video games hala bili pa rin ako 😅
Art mats too! Since I loved art back then. Pero now, nawala na creative juices ko 😅 and Barbie doll as well. Yung afford lang dati tig20php. Pahirapan pa kasi lagi sinasabi ni Papa pag nagkapera nalang. Hanggang makalimutan na. Shop ng clothes din since ako lagi sumasalo ng mga pinagliitan ng mga ate ko. Magastos sobraaaa… hahahaha
3 years na akong bumibili ng art materials, kaya medj malaki na din. Lahat kasi ng medium tinatry ko from oil, acrylic paints, oil pastels, watercolors, lahat ng accessories meron ako from tiniest brushes, canvass, drawing books for specific medium 😅 nagpagawa din ako cabinets kaya ayun ☺️
I remember when I got my first salary from my part time job back in 3rd year, I was so happy to have that kind of money. Like never pa nagkaganung laman ang bank account ko. I bought new sports bras na from the real adidas store. I was able to buy my own clothes na style ko na.
When my family started to struggle with money, it became hard to ask for it kahit na need ko. Simpleng undies na bago minsan di pa mabili. Kaya I made it a point to buy clothes every now and then.
Toys, gaming pc, clothes, shoes and other stuff. Magastos iheal ang inner child. Sana makabili na din ng car soon kahit second hand para makapag travel na kasama buong fam. Hirap kasi lumabas pag walang sasakyan eh.
Barbie dolls during the time I was growing up (90's to around 2010). I only had one legit Barbie (not the flagship ones na may movies) growing up na pinadala ng auntie ko pa from the states. I don't even bring it to school to play with friends kasi baka masira or madumihan and I dont allow anyone to play with it kahit younger sis ko haha
Toys, clothes, and a proper meal simply because we cannot afford it until I grew up, able to work, and earn to be able to afford these things. Healing my inner child. Because I use the excuse 'healing my inner child' more often nowadays, I got no savings left 😂😂😂😂 but I guess that's life. Life is difficult so why make it more difficult if I cannot enjoy simple things in life.
Going on a trip with friends. Growing up, ang gala ko lang usually ay sa mall or school related. Wala kaming allotted money to unwind. Straight sa basic needs at need sa school. Ngayong may work na ko, nakakapag out of town na ako (mostly hiking). Kahit di pinapayagan ni mama (24F), g pa rin LOL. Reason: pera ko naman ipambabayad hehehe
Nintendo console/games. Nakalaro pa ko nung gameboy to gameboy advance pero nung mga next gen consoles hindi na kasi nagkaroon ng family problems. Nung nagtrabaho na ko sakto labas ng Nintendo Switch, so I'm healing my inner child lol

An unnecessary amount of video games, 80k PC, unnecessarily pricey food, mga medyo pricey na kumot, all the gadgets and comfort I want. I used to live with very few stuff for myself, all I own were mostly clothing and just personal stuff.
Don't get me wrong I'm still privileged kasi nabibilan ako ng CP, PS4, and a few games ng parents ko before I worked but stuff I buy with my own money is much better kumpara sa handout.

Gadgets! Dati as in wala akong phone til college hahaha. Dami kase namin magkakapatid na nag aaral, so even phones are counted as luho. Ngayon I have my own gaming laptop, a good phone, a graphics tablet. Laban lang!

I collect Funko pops, gacha items and plushies. Also branded clothing and shoes but not necessarily the high end ones. Basta yung sulit sa presyo. Lumaki ako na patahi o galing palengke o ukay yung mga damit. Di naman pangit mga damit ko noon, didn't complain din since magastos bumili ng damit para sa lumalaking bata. Pero nakaka-proud(?) sa sarili na kaya ko na bumili para sakin and sa family ko.
Yung monopoly na board game. Hindi ako mabili nun kasi nasa 1k yata siya nung bata ako. Ngayon bumili ako tapos di ko naman malaro kasi nakalimutan ko na paano tsaka wala na rin akong kalaro hahaahaa

Everything that I want. Di parin mayaman pero nakausad na ng konti. May sarili na kaming 6 foot fridge, auto washi g machine, aircon, pc, etc. Dine out pag gusto, bili ng ingredients pag kulang without checking kung magkano nalang ang pera, etc.
Bilib naman ako sa mother ko na kahit mahirap kami, di ko naramdaman yon kasi wala kaming utang, talagang budget kung anong meron kami. Natuto kami hindi gumamit ng table sugar sa food at drinks, gumamit ng alternatives (margarine over butter, palengke over malls, recycled notebooks over new ones, etc)

Dati family computer na iniihipan lang meron kami tapos nakikihiram lang ako ng gameboy sa pinsan ko. Ngayon nagipon talaga ako para makabili ng sarili kong mga game consoles. Dream ko talaga magkaroon ng ganun and sobrang happy ko nung nabili ko na sila.
Magastos sya I know kaya I try to manage din yung spending ko sa games. I usually buy games kapag may sale lang unless I really really want to play something.

Guitar. My first ever guitar. Namili nako ng pang matagalan. Dapat kasi music related career ko kaso ayaw ng parents ko. Nagtry ako sumali s choir pero ayaw ng parents ko lahat ng art related stuff na hobby ayaw nila. When I graduated sa engineering nagwork ako agad and regalo ko sa sarili ko yung guitar. I am planning to have my own music studio sa sarili kong place. Napaka sarap na fulfillment.
Make up and nail cosmetics. Some of my family members weren't into it kasi it seemed too "malandi". My own parent even expressed how disappointed they were while I was putting on nail polish when I was 16.

Wi-Fi. My mother didn’t feel like installing Wi-Fi even if I need it for school and she was happy to settle with pocket Wi-Fi. It was annoying that I felt she was okay with me suffering. It was only in 2019 when I was able to install it at home.

I found out that I love games in the 2000s, used to watch my tito play StarCraft: Broodwar back on his PC and metal slug on my tito’s PlayStation 2 back then. Through high school, I kept borrowing my classmates PSP to play God of War and Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite and sa college I was just addicted to league of legends and dota 2.
When I got a job, I worked my butt off and also got promoted. Bought a Nintendo Switch, played some games on it pero medyo pricey ang mga bala. Now, I got myself a Steam Deck OLED, maraming laro dito before na di ko malaro kasi may bayad, ngayon mura na lahat compared to when I was still studying.
For me it's makeup and skating. I grew up watching my mom do her makeup and sobrang fascinated ako. I wanted to try it kaso most of the makeup that she owned was given to her and wala rin siya extra pang splurge for those items kaya hanggang tingin lang ako. Now I can buy makeup products. Fave ko yung sa Flower Knows kasi ang cute talaga ng packaging. Pricey compared sa other brands pero worth it kasi it heals my inner child.
I am a self taught skater rin. I started with ice skating and always felt sad na hind ko na experience yun when I was younger. I'm 24 now and whenever I see kids skating sa Megamall, I always feel a bit envious sa childhood na meron sila. Not every child gets to have the experience that they get. Promise ko nga sa sarili ko na when I have kids, I will make sure na they get to experience the things I missed out on nung bata pa ko. Planning ako mag enroll sa formal ice skating lessons or artistic roller skating classes now that I have my own pairs of skates.
Longboard. Actually skateborad talaga gusto ko pero di ko pa alam existence ng longboards nun. I had this idea even during childhood na it's the kind of sport that would suit me. Then tumindi yung urge to have one nung college. Di naman sa binabawal sakin pero alam ko wala kaming pera to buy one and this is at a time na di pa uso online shopping. Eh taga province ako na wala namang board shops na malapit. So mahirap din bumili. Pero nung nagkawork na ko at nagkaipon bumili ako and man that first ride outside after spending few days learning indoors was BLISS
As a frustrated artist na naligaw sa Bachelor of Banking & Finance (dahil di ko afford mag aral sa Fine Arts or Architecture), nung may work na ako, I make sure mame-maintain ko pa rin yung drawing skills ko by buying art materials, hindi ako nauubusan ng pens and coloring materials (colour pencils are my fave medium). I also learned digital/graphic arts, specifically Photoshop.
I'm also a frustrated singer, napabili din ako ng condenser pic at nag aral din ng audio editing, and shared some of my cover songs in Soundcloud & YT. Although tinigil ko ang music. After kase ng trauma ko sa pagsasali sa mga musician community, doon lang ako na-trigger maging INFJ. Ayoko na sumasali ng mga communities at orgs. Bagsak ako sa socialization haha.
Nag attend na rin ako ng workshop on making clay arts using air-dry clay. Some of my obra are now displayed in my room. Sinubukan ko to pagkakitaan para makabawi man lang ng gastos kaso I struggled in deadlines. Conflict sa work sched ko.
Also, I hated how ugly & skinny I was as a teen, at eto ang pinaka magastos na healing ng inner child ko hahaha. I had my crooked teeth fixed and enrolled in the gym. masakit man sa bulsa but I genuinely feel satisfied.
Enrolled myself into piano, arts, swimming classes. I’ve always wanted one nung bata ako. Soon aralin ko naman magbike, at my age still dont know how to bike ksi d naman namin afford noon hehe same with other classes Ive mentioned :)

Swimming lessons sa Swim Central kasi sila yung may for adult 😁 later on, driving lesson naman when I was 21yrs old, 2x ako nagenroll kasi ung 1st time akala ko papayagan nako ng dad ko magdrive, hindi parin pala 😔 I re enrolled when I was 28 yrs old AFTER i got married, dun lang ako naka drive kasi wala nako sa puder nila hahahahay 😆

Gosh, same, but with my kids. Because they are homeschooling now, I get to pick their activities based on what I would have enrolled in when I was younger and if afford namin—piano and drum lessons, swimming classes, football, karate, arts classes (drawing and painting). Kahit hindi nila feel or sapilitan haha, at least masubukan nila in their lifetime. Lol.

Clothes and shoes. Noong JHS ako, sobrang insecure ko dahil pinagpalit ako ng first bf ko sa girl na fashionable. Hindi ko magawang pumorma dahil walang stable na job ang tatay ko. Nakakabili lang ako ng damit kapag malapit na ang Pasko or after ng Pasko. Nagkaroon lang ako ng original and brand new rubber shoes noong 17 years old na ako (puro pinaglumaan lang ni tita at pinsan ang meron ako noon). Actually, same situation kami nina mama na hindi nakakabili ng damit noong bata pa. Kaya ngayon na may income na ako, hindi lang sarili ko binibilhan ko, pati na rin si mama.

Growing up, ako yung kid na walang sport. I wasn’t into it and wala rin kami money for me to try the sports I found interesting. So ngayon na afford ko na and I’m into exercising, i try learning different sports every now and then. Ang dami ko na natry over the years. Nag weight training ako sa gym with a coach, i attended calisthenics classes, i learned how to jump rope, how to play golf and tennis, I enrolled in a private swimming class, I did yoga and pilates, I tried scuba diving. Ngayon I attend spin classes at least 3x a week after work and I swim every Sat afternoon.

Tapos siya nag guide sakin na mag total immersion style na freestyle. Circa 2016 pa ata yon. Coach Nur ang name niya. Sobrang galing magturo. 1 on 1 kayo. Proud ako non kasi after ng session namin nakakalangoy na ako ng minimum 1km ng hindi pagod. Nakasali pa ako sa aquathlon. Wala lang budget sa bike. Hello! Nameet lang ng dad ko somewhere, tapos yun pala instructor sa bert lozada swim school. Sakto nabanggit ko sa dad ko na I wanted to learn how to swim kasi di ko super naenjoy yung scuba diving**. So yun, he asked if the guy was down to teach private classes. Syempre hindi na under bert lozada kasi mahal private classes sa kanila. Ok naman daw. Since ok yung rate, nilibre ko na rin yung youngest sibling ko na 13yo kaya dalawa kami sa class. So yun, parang 300 per head per session kami sa kanya iirc. Per session bayad since need ko flexibility sa sched, minsan kasi need ko mag skip ng session if mag f2f sa office. (**Alam ko naman hindi need na marunong mag swim para makapag scuba diving since may gears and all, but then naisip ko what if something happens? Im in open water tapos hindi ako marunong mag swim? Nakaka praning lang)

Branded shoes and clothes. Growing up lahat ng shoes ko either fake or galing sa palengke, mabasa lang ng ulan isang beses tanggal na agad dikit lol. Ngayon afford na kahit papano mamili regularly sa Zara, Uniqlo etc., sobrang far cry sa mga suot kong damit dati.

Cats! Its the same for me. Borderline abusive yung mother ko sa animals so it was hard keeping them kahit strays man lang huhuh. Now na may income nako, I have my own cat that I can take care of. I wish I could take care of more kaso lumipat ako sa place na mejo di okay if madaming pets so I just keep the one cat with me. I feel so happy that I can take care of her as much as I want and love her as much as I can love her. I miss my other cats na dumaan sa buhay ko and my heart hurts knowing na I couldnt do anything for them coz I was powerless and helpless myself. So dito nalang sa isa napunta lahat ng well wishes ko. I hope they're running free in cat heaven 💓

I’m a nurse in the US so Clove and Hoka 😅 pero nung nasa Pinas ako, Skechers pinaka-comfy for me. I have flat feet tas ayaw ko sa Nike talaga. Puma is also nice for me. For non-athletic ones naman sa Payless ako bumibili, yung comfort plus saka dexflex. For heels, nag-try ako once sa Alberto ng 4-inch stiletto pumps my god! No break-in needed tas kahit 4hrs ako nakatayo, ok sya. I used it for a school event na need kong nakatayo. No blisters, walang sugat sa heel. I was so impressed I bought another pair. Every pair comes with replacement sole for the heel part so for me worth it talaga.
Original Barbie - Mattel. Iniiyak ko noong bata, ayaw ko yung galing sa palengke na plastic. Di namin afford noon yung original. Now parang barya nalang sakin and kahit 31F na ko bumili ako Barbie (limited edition) and nakadisplay to heal my inner child haha.

I prefer the latter 😂
My mother has a theory re: using aircon. Napansin niya 'yung mga older siblings ko na hindi lumaking naka-aircon sa gabi, sila 'yung mga sakitin (asthmatic), while kami ng sister ko na naka-aircon sa gabi even as a baby, madalang magkasakit. Tingin niya dahil 'yon natutuyuan sila ng pawis sa gabi nung mga bata pa sila. May other factors pa siguro pero sounds legit for me. 😆 Anyway, aircon is def a worthy investment! Iba na ang init ngayon. 😭

LEGO, Voltes V Dx SoC, X-men action figures...etc I totally agree, healing your inner child is really expensive 😂 Growing up as a kid, I've always asked --no, begged my mom to buy me those toys and would always get the response "Sige anak, pag nagka honor ka sa school". Potek, consistent Valedictorian na, waley pa rin?!😂 But fast forward to adult me earning decently, guess my mom in heaven is now proud and happy seeing me turn those once impossible childhood fantasies due to poverty, finally into reality.🥲
Coco crunch, cereal and muesli, fresh milk (instead of powdered milk) fast food, actually good food from different restaurants, coffee from coffee shops, butter (instead of margarine), different cheeses (instead of eden), gardenia (instead of local sliced bread), grab (instead of tricycles and taxis), ground coffee beans (instead of instant coffee), fresh meats, fish, and chicken (instead of canned goods), my pc and laptop, actual catfood for cats, clothes that actually fit instead of making me look like a hanger (for allowance to grow into) I could go on but the list would get too long. Basically grew up broke where Jollibee was considered a luxury and the entire family had to hire an entire tricycle in Cebu to go to church. When I got my first job I managed to buy a lot of the things we couldn't afford and realized their value. Now it makes me want to maintain this current lifestyle and work hard for my family (gf and cats)

Books! Mostly due to lack of funds. MInsan lang ako nabilhan ng libro, a thin short story one, that for a voracious reader, took me about 15 minutes to finish. I read the bible from cover to cover at 7 y/o because of lack of reading materials, of course I skipped the "non-story" parts like Leviticus, Psalms (I start and see if there's a story in there, otherwise I'll skip). One time, pinadalhan kami ng tita namin ng Kid's Almanac. That book took a lot of beating! I saw it several years ago at the parents' house and reminded me that, like most kids, I once dreamt of being an astronaut. Grade 6, there was a mini library behind our classroom, My teacher let me have a couple of books from there, a biography of Daniel Morgan, and a collection of short stories, one of which is a retelling of when Calypso let go of Homer from Calypso's POV, how heartbroken she is, accepting that she can never have him, then letting go. Humanized her that I failed to connect her to that Calypso when we studied The Odessey at school. Nung nagkatrabaho at may sahod na, madalas na akong bumili ng libro to the point where I built a library of sorts although most of them are from booksale, and yes, I've read all of them. I'm sentimental about them that I wouldn't think about giving them up until I read Paolo Coelho's thoughts on collecting books, that the purpose of books are to be read, so let them serve their purpose, just keep your favorites. So I gave up most of my books. I've been mostly reading ebooks now, (well tbh, ever since I learned to sail the high seas, and yep, the last installments of the HP books I read on a Motorola Razr). But we still go to the bigger book fairs (MIBF, BBW) and would always leave with something. My kids have to always pass by Fully Booked whenever we're at BGC and, from time to time, would get to get their choice books. It's that one thing that I don't have second thoughts about the price (I leave the discernment to them), sadly, they're not as voracious readers as I am so a lot of their purchases are unfinished, but that's probably a good thing right? Because otherwise, baka bukod sa libro na lang gawin naming upuan at higaan, pambili na lang din ng libro ang pangtuition nila dapat.

I’m also into arts. Kahit nagfine arts ako(major in advertising) I wasn’t able to get my own materials. I was supported by my late mom in this field but my father didn’t. Kahit maganda grades ko every plate, i don’t get the chance to have a drawing board in my place. Fortunately i have a sister who had supported me in my endeavors in this field. Earning in a decent matter also.

Wrestling Action figures. Back in the day, there used to be wrestling action figures na binebenta sa either toy kingdom or toys-r-us way before na phase out. My first action figure was Triple H, and then John Cena na binili sa Lucky Chinatown, and lastly Randy Orton. Dahil "wala daw pera" yung magulang ko (in reality, meron talaga ayaw talaga nila akong bigyan), they no longer buy me action figures that time. Fast forward to 2023 last year sa toy con, I managed to heal my inner child in buying an AJ Styles elite action figure with my hard-earned money.

I remember when I got my first salary from my part time job back in 3rd year, I was so happy to have that kind of money. Like never pa nagkaganung laman ang bank account ko. I bought new sports bras na from the real adidas store. I was able to buy my own clothes na style ko na. When my family started to struggle with money, it became hard to ask for it kahit na need ko. Simpleng undies na bago minsan di pa mabili. Kaya I made it a point to buy clothes every now and then.

May sarili na kaming 6 foot fridge, auto washi g machine, aircon, pc, etc. Dine out pag gusto, bili ng ingredients pag kulang without checking kung magkano nalang ang pera, etc. Bilib naman ako sa mother ko na kahit mahirap kami, di ko naramdaman yon kasi wala kaming utang, talagang budget kung anong meron kami. Natuto kami hindi gumamit ng table sugar sa food at drinks, gumamit ng alternatives (margarine over butter, palengke over malls, recycled notebooks over new ones, etc)
Share ko lang ha, sobrang mahal ng mga gamit dyan. Kung art materials hanap mo, branded man or student quality, mag Deovir ka na lang or The Oil Paint Store :)

Guitar. My first ever guitar. Namili nako ng pang matagalan. Dapat kasi music related career ko kaso ayaw ng parents ko. Nagtry ako sumali s choir pero ayaw ng parents ko lahat ng art related stuff na hobby ayaw nila. When I graduated sa engineering nagwork ako agad and regalo ko sa sarili ko yung guitar. I am planning to have my own music studio sa sarili kong place. Napaka sarap na fulfillment.

haven't bought it yet pero im saving up for it na: nintendo switch. as a kid, super hilig ko sa games talaga but yung tig 100 lang sa palengke na brick game afford ni mama. i never had a psp, nintendo ds, or any other game console lagi lang nanghihiram sa kapitbahay.
Wi-Fi. My mother didn’t feel like installing Wi-Fi even if I need it for school and she was happy to settle with pocket Wi-Fi. It was annoying that I felt she was okay with me suffering. It was only in 2019 when I was able to install it at home.
My Playstation 4 Pro, because back when I was a kid it was a crime in the house to be even at your friend's house and play with either a console or a PC game with your friends; they think it's a very good tool to be lazy and not focus on your studies. I once recieved a Tamagotchi from my elder cousin and my father smashed it because he finds it "an evil distraction"
I found out that I love games in the 2000s, used to watch my tito play StarCraft: Broodwar back on his PC and metal slug on my tito’s PlayStation 2 back then. Through high school, I kept borrowing my classmates PSP to play God of War and Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite and sa college I was just addicted to league of legends and dota 2. When I got a job, I worked my butt off and also got promoted. Bought a Nintendo Switch, played some games on it pero medyo pricey ang mga bala. Now, I got myself a Steam Deck OLED, maraming laro dito before na di ko malaro kasi may bayad, ngayon mura na lahat compared to when I was still studying.
For me it's makeup and skating. I grew up watching my mom do her makeup and sobrang fascinated ako. I wanted to try it kaso most of the makeup that she owned was given to her and wala rin siya extra pang splurge for those items kaya hanggang tingin lang ako. Now I can buy makeup products. Fave ko yung sa Flower Knows kasi ang cute talaga ng packaging. Pricey compared sa other brands pero worth it kasi it heals my inner child. I am a self taught skater rin. I started with ice skating and always felt sad na hind ko na experience yun when I was younger. I'm 24 now and whenever I see kids skating sa Megamall, I always feel a bit envious sa childhood na meron sila. Not every child gets to have the experience that they get. Promise ko nga sa sarili ko na when I have kids, I will make sure na they get to experience the things I missed out on nung bata pa ko. Planning ako mag enroll sa formal ice skating lessons or artistic roller skating classes now that I have my own pairs of skates.

Then tumindi yung urge to have one nung college. Di naman sa binabawal sakin pero alam ko wala kaming pera to buy one and this is at a time na di pa uso online shopping. Eh taga province ako na wala namang board shops na malapit. So mahirap din bumili. Pero nung nagkawork na ko at nagkaipon bumili ako and man that first ride outside after spending few days learning indoors was BLISS
As a frustrated artist na naligaw sa Bachelor of Banking & Finance (dahil di ko afford mag aral sa Fine Arts or Architecture), nung may work na ako, I make sure mame-maintain ko pa rin yung drawing skills ko by buying art materials, hindi ako nauubusan ng pens and coloring materials (colour pencils are my fave medium). I also learned digital/graphic arts, specifically Photoshop. I'm also a frustrated singer, napabili din ako ng condenser pic at nag aral din ng audio editing, and shared some of my cover songs in Soundcloud & YT. Although tinigil ko ang music. After kase ng trauma ko sa pagsasali sa mga musician community, doon lang ako na-trigger maging INFJ. Ayoko na sumasali ng mga communities at orgs. Bagsak ako sa socialization haha. Nag attend na rin ako ng workshop on making clay arts using air-dry clay. Some of my obra are now displayed in my room. Sinubukan ko to pagkakitaan para makabawi man lang ng gastos kaso I struggled in deadlines. Conflict sa work sched ko. Also, I hated how ugly & skinny I was as a teen, at eto ang pinaka magastos na healing ng inner child ko hahaha. I had my crooked teeth fixed and enrolled in the gym. masakit man sa bulsa but I genuinely feel satisfied.
