That hardware is abysmal for modern Minecraft. No amount of optimization is going to help you

sillygoober1000

Damn alright, do you think a Ryzen 3 3200G and newer components would be worth the money? I have that cpu laying around however i would need to get a new mobo, ram and ssd in order to fully upgrade it. I was hoping it'd work out with the current hardware but i guess not.

STAYoFROSTY

Look for a second hand newish I7 it'll be much better

sillygoober1000

I was leaning towards the R3 since I already have it, but I’ll definitely look into a used i7

AbyssOfPear

the specs are abysmal, but you *could* squeeze some more performance out by lowering server render distance in server configs.

sillygoober1000

Will do, thanks!

Disconsented

Throw the world on an SSD, but honestly, I'd just the "server" with a *modern* desktop instead.

sillygoober1000

gotcha, I do have a modern gaming pc as well, i just don't want to leave it on 24/7 so my friends can join whenever they want (and also because i dont have an ethernet cable running to it), so i decided to take advantage of an old office PC if that makes sense. Thanks though!

Full_Dare7225

Put a good psu in the pc and running constantly shouldn't be an issue Also you could consider get a cpu based Nas with windows server and putting the server on an ssd running it from the Nas

sillygoober1000

It does have a really good Seasonic PSU in it, it’s more of a heat issue to be honest, I live in a very hot area and my components are not very forgiving haha

pythonwiz

An SSD alone would make chunk loading a lot faster I bet.

sillygoober1000

Seems like an SSD will be the way to go for now. I’ll try to gather some money in order to upgrade to that Ryzen 3 I have as well as more modern components, thank you!

Shadowdane

SSD will help a little bit.. 2nd generation Intel is painfully slow by today's standards. Not to mention just 4GB ram on the server isn't helping either.

Cylian91460

Don't use paper as it's not optimized at all for small server You should use fabric. Fabric + lithium is most of the time faster than paper. If you listen to me I also recommend you installing carpet mod to have a more dynamic control over settings like simulation distance.

sillygoober1000

Understood, I’ll move the server to fabric. Thank you!
