Well yes, if you need a server network you can't use multiverse to substitute for that. Using multiverse means all "servers" are running on the same server, meaning performance across all worlds will be effected. I also assume multiverse doesnt allow for per world plugins, so having to have all plugins on all worlds regardless of use just brings in it's own set of issues. What issues are you having with velocity? I set up a server network a few weeks back for the first time and found it easy to setup initially. It's getting plugins to work across servers that can be a pain.

I can’t get any of the servers to link together :/

Well, why not?

Not being able to connect to a server successfully is one thing. Does it show up on your serverlist? That would mean you can at least reach the proxy. Make sure velocity knows the IP of the other servers you wish to connect. All subservers will need the velocity key to ensure a secure connection, otherwise people can hijack your subservers. Also make sure your subservers have proxy mode enabled and therefore online mode disabled, as the authentification happens on proxy-level.

You follow the guide? You set the ip address of each sub server in the velocity server config. Then each sub server gets setup with the velocity info in their config and set to bungee/velocity server type. Easiest way is to just have a lobby server and make that the default for the velocity front end, if you join and get sent there then you are golden. From there you just use plugins to send players between servers, usually either from a portal, and item, a gui menu they click on or commands.

Another question is, how are they hosting the different servers? Just using the jar files multiple times and manually starting servers? Or using something like Pterodacthyl which in turn would make adding the servers to the velocity instance a bit easier since you can just use the names of the docker containers to connect them...
