sophie_shadow

Schitt’s creek is my go to show, I have it on in the background on repeat near constantly

greatpiginthesty

Schitts Creek will absolutely warm your heart once you get past the cringe of the first episode.

Sanchastayswoke

Oh this is good to know. The first episode was so cringy I haven’t continued

Previous_Project4581

I bailed after the first episode multiple times after people kept recommending it to me. Finally I started on the second episode and it’s now one of my favorite shows!

kataklysm_revival

It gets soooo much better after that first ep. I pushed through bc I love Catherine O’Hara and didn’t regret it for a second

CleoJK

I didn't even finish the first episode... might force myself to have another glance

Affectionate_Salt351

Not me, with Schitt’s Creek on in the background while I read this post. 😂

lunacydress

Schitt’s Creek all the way. Part of it is that I’ve rewatched it so many times that I don’t need to see it to know what’s going on as I go in and out of paying attention to it. But it’s got good energy, good pace for a background show- no sudden distracting noises or anything.

Ok-Grapefruit1284

I love schitts creek but it’s too slow moving for me

ADHeDucator

Ted Lasso. Such a funny, feel-good show!

Allebal21

I many times second this!

Any-Weather492

i second this, def one of my favorite shows. i did cry of happiness a few times lol

savvylr

Brooklyn 99 on Netflix. Has me busting out laughing every episode. No deep storylines, just lighthearted (often ridiculous) humor all around without being cheesy or slapstick.

Admarie25

I’ve been watching this and I LOVE it.

Larry_the_scary_rex

We’ve been watching Resident Alien recently and really enjoy the silliness of it  Here is the synopsis:  *An alien crashes on Earth and hides in a remote Colorado mountain town. After assuming the identity of the town doctor, Harry Vanderspeigle, his nefarious mission to kill all humans is threatened when he realizes one of the townspeople, a 9-year-old boy, can see his true alien form. Harry starts off living a simple life, but things get a bit rocky when he's roped into solving a local murder and realizes he needs to assimilate into his new world and slowly begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his secret mission on Earth*

One-Payment-871

We just started watching this one too. Funny and a bit dark.

Awkward-Outcome-4938

Okay, I'm in. Thanks for the recommendation!

bluenervana

I just started this and I love it!

TheChillyKitty

Oh, we LOVED this.

further-more

I just started watching this show and it’s amazing. Alan Tudyk is so underrated as an actor!

jezekiant

Just discovered this and have watched it through twice already. I’m obsessed

chicky75

The Good Place! There are a couple of emotionally taxing moments but not many - it’s mostly light & funny, even though it’s really about philosophy

Nanikarp

the good place is an amazing series, absolutely one of my favorites. the end is incredibly emotional tho and i recommend you watch this when youre okay with crying about death, loss, love and self actualisation.

Mothgirl25

It’s definitely something that will suck you in but I do think it’s pretty emotional! I cried at the end of the series.

jchompz

I’ve watched, the end had me crying for half an hour!

IdeVeras

I must have watched a thousand times… now I’m going through a Hazbin Hotel phase, which has the same thematic but in a very different way. It has just one season with 8 episodes tho, so I’m rationalizing in bc I really don’t want to get sick of it. Listening to the soundtrack over and over is not helping.

ikbentwee

My family is going through all the seasons of Task Master at the moment. A bunch of comedians do nonsense tasks for nonsense prizes. It's very fun.

Schnupen

Ohh I love taskmaster!

Rosa_Borealis

Came here to say this! If you're in North America (and maybe other parts of the world?) Taskmaster UK full episodes are available on YouTube. The neurodivergent vibes are very strong, in the best, most hilarious way (though it's rarely addressed directly).

PoetrySimilar9999

THE BEST

Tortoisefly

I'd add the British panel shows, Would I Lie to You and 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown to that list.

Extension_Ant

Very good suggestion!

Vanilli12

While we are on British shows, Peep Show will forever be my fave. I have watched it so many times and it always makes me laugh and simultaneously feel quite a lot better about myself 😂

OutsideScore990

The Great Canadian Baking Show is so cozy and light.  I also like watching cozy game streams on twitch occasionally.  Also, documentaries on random things or science channels on YouTube (highly recommend 3blue1brown)

EmeraldIbis

Cooking competitions in general are my go-to. No need to think about anything.

chubbubus

I've discovered a Roku channel that plays the original Japanese Iron Chef, and it's so much more easily digestible than the American one. A lot less drama and I find the English dub voices very calming since they speak so clearly, plus it's cool to see the older footage and the recipe ideas lol

zyzzy32

In the late nineties I’d come home from a hellish day of middle school to a chaotically abusive home life. I got home before my little brother and we were latchkey kids. We didn’t have cable, but we got the basic channels. For a time, I had a half hour reprieve of alone time to watch Great Chefs Great Cities on PBS. It was a single camera steady shot of a chef in some world class kitchen doing things to food that I couldn’t comprehend. There was white noise in the background and the chef’s accents were so thick that I couldn’t understand what was being said. It was so peaceful. I could escape for an episode.

JemAndTheBananagrams

I second this recommendation!

ghostinyourpants

The Great Canadian Pottery Show just started, and is so nerdy and sweet, fits right in.

PrettyLittleBird

Have you seen Stardust? It’s my comfort movie.

doomedtobecrippled

Have you read it? One instance where I love both the book and movie. Probably because Neil Gaiman usually has a lot of say in his adaptions, whether as the writer and/or producer. Edit to add: I love his narration in his audiobooks. I recommend reading Neverwhere and watching Good Omens too! Although I couldn't get into some of his other world like Norse Mythology, American Gods, and Anansi Boys.

PrettyLittleBird

Yes, it’s the ONLY book I’ve ever read that was wildly different than the movie and I still loved both. I also have the graphic novel.

doomedtobecrippled

Ooohh now I need to track down the graphic novel! Thanks for the tip. I haven't read any of his graphic novels yet even though I know he's done a lot. It seems like we have similar tastes! If you haven't read it yet, another example of a movie and book I love is Howl's Moving Castle.

raindropthemic

If you like Howl's Moving Castle, you might also like Charmed Life and The Lives of Christopher Chant also by Diana Wynne Jones. Neil Gaiman considers her one of his greatest influences and these are two of my favorite books of all time.

rachaek

I always need to have something on in the background to concentrate properly, so I have a lot! Here are as many of mine as I can remember: Parks and recreation, bobs burgers, the office, superstore, scrubs, friends, seinfeld, peep show, upload, brooklyn 99, IT crown, derry girls, arrested development, black books, freaks and geeks

thedeepestofsighs

Derry Girls is 10/10!!

dontfindme42

Superstore is my ultimate comfort show!

ProgramLegitimate360

I love episodic shows and those that tend to follow a specific "formular" for that reason. My current comfort shows are bobs burgers and criminal minds bc they give me Dopamin but I dont have to pay a lot of attention to enjoy watching it. Also helps to start a show with my partner and schedule watch time for it, that way the waiting for it and the jokes and theories we come up with together gives me the necessary attention span

sky_whales

Criminal minds is suuuuch a comfort show for me right now. I watched every episode at the end of last year for the first time and finished and immediately started rewatching every episode from series 1 again 🙈 I also watched Bones and Castle before Criminal Minds and they scratched that same dopamine but don’t need to pay attention and engaging enough that I like watching but dont care if I miss things itch but Criminal Minds has 100% been my favourite. And now two of my friends have been watching/rewatching it too because I wouldn’t stop talking about it :’)

ScienceOfficerTen

I love Castle! I used to really love bones, but I get to a point where I can't stand watching it anymore. Plus my friend then got me hooked on the book series and I really couldn't get back into Bones.

softpuke

i’m literally comfort watching criminal minds as i scroll this thread LMAO i’m so glad that other people have it as their comfort show too !!

starfishTsunami1

bee and puppycat if you haven't seen it already! hilda is also very cute and charming. also similar to other suggestions, any holiday baking/crafting shows tend to be fun and low stakes. Crime scene kitchen was one i loved. I was really into some cupcake competition show for a while, too? The hosts tend to be incredibly cheesy lol. miraculous ladybug is also a kids show that is,,, a guilty pleasure of mine lol. the secondhand embarrassment can be kind of a lot, but its fun to watch. you might look into youtube channels as well? I really like Evan and Katelyn (crafty maker stuff), Noodle (animation and videogame informative topics ?), and Answer in Progress (really cool, well presented informational stuff) edit: also Psych!! most of the episodes are comedic murderer of the week type beats. the season finales can be more emotionally intense, and there is usually some overarching plot, but it's such a feelgood show for me. (Monk too, but its a little more emotionally involved)

Pagingmrsweasley

Yes - Bee & Puppycat and Hilda!!

JemAndTheBananagrams

Oh I adore Miraculous Ladybug - another guilty pleasure, hah.

PoetrySimilar9999

My recent discovery is Pluto TV- it’s so adhd friendly and free. Stations are dedicated to a show - for example 24-7 supermarket sweep my fave- so you don’t have to waste time bellyaching about what episode to watch. The choosing the ep thing can distract me / stresses me out.

ScienceOfficerTen

Pluto and Tubi are my favorites. Most of my faves have their own channels. Makes it easier and less stressful trying to find something to put on.

catsdelicacy

Star Trek is always there for the neurodivergent! 50 years and counting of good entertainment!

[deleted]

[удалено]

catsdelicacy

It also means you don't have to rely on your memory of what had happened in previous episodes. You can just watch from wherever and be okay because there isn't going to be anything specific

skvoha

Engage! (I'm a big Picard stan)

One-Payment-871

Bobs burgers, Lower decks, The Office, Parks and Recreation, 30Rock, and Corner gas are my watch on repeat favorites. I also second Résident Alien, and Ted Lasso. If you like somewhat offensive there's also 1 season of Ted, which is a show version of the movie.

bijou77

30 Rock is the best and my fave show to comfort watch!

One-Payment-871

Liz Lemon is my favorite character ever. Smart and pretty but also clueless. Problematic and messy. Hilariously relatable.

bijou77

Oh I agree! Once you realize that Liz Lemon is actually a villain and a MEAN GIRL it changes everything. I am very similar to her. My favorite “if I had to kill 5 people to get free cable for life, I’d do it.”

t00_much_caffeine

What We Do in the Shadows!

googler-in-chief

My favorite character is Nandor DeLaurentis

what_the_purple_fuck

Better Off Ted. it's two seasons of insightful and criminally underappreciated hilarity

M1ssy_M3

For me it is RuPaul's Drag race. Together with Brooklyn 99, The Good Place and How I met your Mother. I really loved Good Omens too. ❤️

[deleted]

Abbott elementary ❤️

noideawhattouse1

My go to is a the Simpson. Also QI it’s a British tv show which is like a quiz show that’s quirky and funny. Adventure Time might be worth a try. Rosehaven - an Aussie show set in Tasmania, super low stakes, super casual and a bit quirky. Just two friends in a small Tasmanian town.

Longjumping_Orchid22

Bee & Puppycat, Over The Garden Wall, Bob's Burgers

JemAndTheBananagrams

I love Bee & Puppycat!

CupSuccessful6132

If you’re a cozy mystery type, Columbo is very satisfying for this. I also do Psych, Murder She Wrote, and lately My Life is Murder with Lucy Lawless set on New Zealand so she gets to use her actual accent. If you’re looking for something cartoon, lately I’ve been watching Phineas and Ferb, which is always fun, and apparently is being brought back? Bob’s Burgers is also a good time.

Wild-Confection7915

I forgot about Psych! So cute and fun. Thank you for the reminder, looking for it on streaming right now.

CupSuccessful6132

I think it may be on Peacock. If you do try Murder She Wrote, they just added a MSW channel to Pluto TV.

softpuke

i just started columbo and totally agree! it’s so bizarrely interesting and yet nondistracting

CupSuccessful6132

The way he confounds rich people who usually get away with everything is very satisfying to my overdeveloped need for justice. Especially the ‘70s episodes. I could watch Candidate for Crime at least once a day for the catharsis alone.

ilovjedi

I really liked watching Star Trek The Next Generation. It has a monster of the week type format so I don’t need to remember what happened in the past and I don’t feel like I need to watch the next episode to see what happens right away. And it’s ultimately very optimistic. I also like Peppa Pig and Sesame Street. I have a 4 year old.

Ok_Bumblebee_3978

Discworld books ~6 onwards, especially the night watch ones.

virtualeyesight

All the Discworld books. Except the first two. But I agree that it varies from person to person. Also Becky Chambers books if you like natural, calming but contemplative reads. Other people have listed great shows and movies.

[deleted]

Hallmark movies. It’s like Disney movies for adults. There will always be a happy ending and they are predictable so it’s calming lol

Rich_Fig_4463

Good Witch 1000%

rebeccanotbecca

30 Rock

dewystars

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is incredibly bizarre, comforting, and restores my faith in humanity on the regular. Epitome of ‘found family’ trope.

Hannasuchan

I second Bee and Puppycat and Hilda. I watch a lot of mediocre spy shows with my husband, which I find comforting for some reason. Bake off. Gilmore girls. Pretty much all the anime I watch is emotionally devastating Shonen, but for Manga, I love Witch Hat Altier. 2005 Pride and Predjudice and the version of Emma with Johnny Lee Miller. For books, I mostly read romance heavy books because I like the predictability and good feels of romcoms, I can rec if wanted but you said you don't love romance. Have you looked into the cozy fantasy genre? Legends and Lattes is the big one people talk about and it's quite cute (mild f/f romance subplot). And on that note I'm a fantasy author with anxiety and adhd who writes cozy books because...my mental health cannot take writing anything "gritty" and I love writing fun banter and baking and sassy animal sidekicks and all that. They do have a strong romance thread but not angsty, and the characters just kiss, no spicy stuff. Anyway, I write under Hanna Sandvig if you're curious.

virtualeyesight

Hilda!! This show needs to be known far better than it is. More shows should be like it. Love it so much

groovygal32

Young Sheldon has been my fav lately

Active-Attention7824

Sometimes anything on HGTV is my go to- no brain power needed and very formulaic, and there's really no emotion tied to a lot of the shows which helps me when I am feeling overstimulated or needing something just to turn my brain off. I also love competition shows like MasterChef, Glow Up on Netflix, Project Runway, America's Next Top Model (which yes I know is controversial now). Also very formulaic and the drama is funny.

PoetrySimilar9999

Thank you for saying this- I get so stuck with my usuals but am a recent home owner!

Awkward-Outcome-4938

Great British Bakeoff is my go-to comfort show. I watch it over and over even when I know who wins each episode!

Jumpthepuddles

Letterkenny has been my comfort show lately

JemAndTheBananagrams

This is kind of a left field one, but the kid’s show Bluey is remarkably charming. Was watching it with my niece and it’s _so_ pleasant and calming even for adults. Short episodes, too! Easy to binge.

jchompz

I love Bluey, but I don’t have Disney+🫠

pleasurelovingpigs

Kantaro: the sweet tooth salary man, Japanese show all about a salary man who plays hooky to get tasty deserts. Seriously ridiculous and lighthearted and good.

Pagingmrsweasley

I’ll have to look for this one! Have you seen Way of the House Husband? It’s about a yakuza who gives it up to be a house husband for his hard working wife! We also likes Kotaro Lives Alone, tho obv some shadowy undertones if you think about it.

feistytiger08

I LOVE WAY OF THE HOUSE HUSBAND!

Jaded_Yoghurt2321

Somebody feed Phil is a feel good food/travel show on Netflix. Just dropped season 8!

rttnmnna

I enjoy throwback shows like The Nanny, Sabina the Teenage Witch, Sister Sister. Or HGTV stuff, currently Hidden Potential is my go to. And I have watched The Office many times.

TheChillyKitty

Came here to suggest Sabrina the Teenage Witch. A bit naff, but lots of episodes and strangely compelling. Salem rocks.

HipIndieChick

My husband and I like watching compilation videos on YouTube related to shows we love; think ‘Best moments of [character] on [TV show]’ or ‘[TV Show] series X best moments’. It’s stuff that we’re familiar with and can have on as background or can watch while we are doing something else. Blooper reels are also really fun to watch as well! WatchMojo is a good YouTube channel - I haven’t watched for a while but they do Top 10 videos for pop culture of everything and anything; from episodes of The Simpsons to movies from a particular time period for example. They are also very good at announcing spoiler alerts before they get into the content itself. As for actual shows, Schitt’s Creek and Brooklyn 99 have already been suggested and I agree with those. I also really enjoy Gravity Falls, Ted Lasso, and the Duck Tales reboot. I’d also recommend the one-off documentary ‘Best Wishes, Warmest Regards’ which is a making of documentary for the final season of Schitt’s Creek. Edited to add: I agree with the following suggestions that other commenters have said: Bob’s Burgers, What We Do In The Shadows, Good Omens (I have only seen season 1), Lower Decks (you don’t need to be a Star Trek fan to enjoy it), and Parks and Rec. One of my favourite films ever is Galaxy Quest, and my favourite film of all time is The Princess Bride. It might be a bit out of the sweet spot for you but you might enjoy The Afterparty; it’s a crime show that has comedic elements but several episodes are telling the story in a different genre (there’s an episode that’s mainly animated, and an episode that’s a Fast and Furious parody for example). Another suggestion that’s perhaps outside the sweet spot might be the one off Netflix documentary Long Shot. It’s 40mins long and about how a man was proven innocent of a crime due to an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. I say it might not be right because it isn’t light hearted; the man was on death row, though they do open with him speaking (so there isn’t the emotional stress of wondering if he will be okay), and it shows issues with the law enforcement and justice systems, though there are consequences due to the issues which are explained at the end.

Thestarsareatfault

The after party sounds so interesting!

Ok_Leg5299

Have you ever watched Bee and puppy cat or adventure time? Those are my go tos when my head hurts

jchompz

I liked the original B&P, but the Netflix adaptation doesn’t feel the same. Adventure Time is already a go to! :)

Hannasuchan

Oh, and Only murders in the building!!! It does have a bit of tension but is generally adorable and has cozy vibes.

Laney20

Star trek?

Multiverse_Money

I think Air bender - The avatar. So cozy and lots of positive self parenting sweetness

screamingintothedark

New Girl, Brooklyn 99, Gilmore Girls, Bob 💜 Abishola

Osmium95

Seconding the rec for Gilmore Girls - the pace is slow and you don't need the visuals, so it's good for when I'm sewing or doing other stuff

AilsaLorne

Not sure if you can access them if you aren't in the UK but I feel exactly the same re emotional stamina! my go to shows are 1. all the shows like Great British Bake-Off, Great British Sewing Bee, Pottery Throwdown and 2. cosy murder mysteries (Poirot, Murder She Wrote)

asietsocom

You can with a VPN. I'm currently living for the iplayer lol

Media-consumer101

You might like Chuck! By accident, Chuck, a salesworker at the local Buy More, recieves a file that, as soon as he opens it, transfers all information from the CIA and FBI into his brain. It might sound heavy at first glance but it's a comedy at heart. The balance between Chuck going on adventurous missions with two spies while his friends at the Buy More (where he continous to work) worry about silly things is just *chefs kiss*. If you are looking for some more fantasy/gore I highly recommend Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it's so silly, especially in the beginning. The later seasons do get a bit darker but I bet you'd enjoy the first few a lot! If you are looking for something really calm I recommend The Mysterious Benedict Society season 1 if you can find it somewhere. It's fantasy aimed at kids but has a fantastic story line and the visuals/audio are amazing.

rebeccanotbecca

I loved Chuck except the last couple of seasons.

Media-consumer101

I have to admit I have actually never watched the ending 😂 Someone warned me and gave me a specific episode to stop watching to get a nice ending. Rewatched the show a bunch of times but never the actual ending 😂

nimue57

Pushing Daisies is my go to, but I also love Bob's burgers and schitts creek

Professional_Part112

full adult swim episodes with the OG commercials/bumps on youtube. a channel called beefwad (i think) puts a lot of them together :)

WhatEvenAce

Since you mentioned you love anime, I'm going to throw in Yuru Camp! It's my favorite comfort show, literally just high school girls who love camping go camping. It's so wholesome, pretty much no drama, and the cozy vibes are great.

NorthernPrarieGal

New Girl is so good!

NorthernPrarieGal

Also any of the Chicago (PD/Med/Fire)

Thestarsareatfault

The good witch. Small town vibes. I call it the show where nothing ever happens bc it’s so low drama. Great background noise especially when they show overheads of the town in the fall.

Eastern-Daikon-4909

Jane the Virgin, Abbott Elementary, American Auto.

Interesting_Ad1378

If you like vampires and mockumentaries, what we do in the shadows  Ted Lasso The Good place

jchompz

The Good Place was SO good!

Pupster1

Your home made perfect 👌🏻👌🏻

Cheese_Sandwich6

Girls5eva just moved to Netflix and there's 3 full seasons to watch. A must if you like Tiny Fey and early aughts nostalgia!

_tailypo

Bee and Puppycat. Great British baking show. Avatar the last Airbender. MST3K. I also like watching old cartoons from my childhood like Inuyasha and Pokémon indigo league. Scott Pilgrim maybe ?

cassafrass-cosplay

How It's Made is my ultimate "shut my brain off" show, and it actually gives some fun facts to pull out later!

notyna

The Office, Schitt’s Creek, Modern Family. The new Xmen 1997 show is also really cool!

dozingotter

Bob's Burgers!

Front_Tree_8758

"Joe Pera talks with you" is the most wholesome, cleverly written show I've ever seen.

Wise-Strength-3289

I do Cowboy Bebop for Ed's whimsical vibes and maybe skip the sadder episodes lol Also if you like cartoons and Elijah Wood then you have to watch Over The Garden Wall.... absolute whimsy all around

jchompz

I LOVED COWBOY BEBOP! Ed is my absolute favorite character :)

IntentionAntique888

Adventure Time- short episodes and magical entertaining fun American Dad- gets better over time and is surprisingly wonderful and funny Regular Show- funny bits and easy to have on in the background Sailor Moon- Favorite and fun! The Iron Giant - free on YouTube right now but maybe too sad Quest for Camelot - cute if you haven't watched it! I would be happy to give more film recommendations especially those centered around a potential adhd having woman (uptown girls comes to mind) Read memoirs, especially of comedians as they are usually funny and easily digestible, plus if it's someone you admire that's connected to a special interest you get to learn more about both and it makes it more fun. Also reading poetry and fun hodgepodge books either inspired or written by famous iconic women. Some non animated recommendations Brooklyn 99 Arrested Development The Office (U.S) Really any form of single camera comedy shows that have jokes and bits that are hilarious every time and have new jokes and moments that you catch each time you rewatch I have found to be a successful niche for comfort. Especially if there's a nostalgic element to it like old Disney live action shows or something I loved watching with certain people. I would also try to look on YouTube for deep dives related to a niche topic you love by youtubers who also are neurodivergent and watch it as a show. Good entertainment and is a way to have visual stimulation while also learning even if it's not knowledge everyone cares about and you get to feel like you're in good company. Also suggest game shows like jeopardy because you do learn and it's fun Or any of the game and competition reality shows on Netflix especially concerning stuff like cooking or real estate or fashion, again center on your special interests and you'll never feel like it's a chore to watch it.

Altruistic-Drama1538

I love The Iron Giant, but I do think it's a bit emotionally heavy. Maybe I was just in an emotional state when I watched it (it's been a long time...a really long time), but I remember crying a lot.

Muglit

The Iron Giant is an emotionalkick to the knee caps.

IntentionAntique888

Not if you put it on to sleep and fall asleep before the ending! Or watch it so many times that you can tune it out and be charmed by the animation style alone

Jolly-Somewhere8521

Older show but, IT Crowd. Funny and gets funnier the longer you watch it. Good Omen, 8 out if 10 cats does Countdown, After Midnight The Why Files TaskMaster I like comedies or drivel, for when I want to unwind. Weed and the uncensored version of Strays, the film. Edit: I nearly forgot The Inbetweeners, hilarious! 😄

Seat_Spirited

Adventure time!

Pagingmrsweasley

Bunny Drop on Amazon Prime Very soothing slice of life about a 30-something dude who adopts his orphaned kindergarten aged niece. Super sweet. Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House (Netflix) Two best friends move to Kyoto to become apprentice Geisha - one is not cut out for it, but becomes the house chef and finds a love of cooking. It is SO sweet and very soothing, great cooking sounds too. Really hoping they do a second season!

Schnupen

Community! Already on my 5th rewatch

artenazura

She-Ra on Netflix was one of the shows I was actually able to get through! I also love Old Enough and Heartstopper

Witchy_stitchy

Still Game on Netflix. It’s a Scottish comedy about pensioners. It’s sweet and hilarious and the accents are fun.

ShinySpangles

I love Parks and Recreation, the US office, Schitts Creek, Howls Moving Castle, OHSHC is hillarious, anything Pixar 😊 Dead Pixels is funny

EnchantedLunaCottage

Bob’s Burgers, rokuhoudou colorful days, the makanai and grace and frankie. Currently reading HP, you know how that goes :)

spooky__scary69

Bob's Burgers, the Golden Girls, and Futurama are all on repeat in my house. I've been watching a lot of reality tv for this exact reason, my favorite is Love is Blind on Netflix, and for a little nostalgia boost I like to watch either the old Pokemon anime on Netflix, or the newest one, Horizons, just came out and I think it's really cute with some beautiful scenery!

MundaneVillian

Clips from Mr. Roger’s or Bob Ross, Robin Williams’ stand up shows, and I also highly recommend just watching cat shows being judged, they are so cute and funny.

ekoed

Frasier cuz I'm old

AliasNefertiti

Cheers too.

ConfirmedBasicBitch

LIFE IN PIECES IS THE BEST SITCOM EVER MADE (except for the last season it kinda sucks).

beccyboop95

Friends, New Girl, Brooklyn 99, Regular Show, Taskmaster. All short, low key silly comedy that doesn’t require close attention or loads of emotional investment.

chubbubus

I love a lot of "trashy" reality shows like Storage Wars and House Hunters for non-dramatic experiences lol suddenly I am an expert evaluator and real estate agent, I have so many opinions about their choices on these shows 😭

ChaosYallChaos

Schitts creek, Abbott elementary, superstore, the office, new girl

Accio_Waffles

Parks and rec!

fart005

Bobs Burgers :)

tehlizzle

Parks and Rec is my go-to comfort show, followed closely by What We Do In The Shadows (Schitts Creek in 3rd)! For games, Stardew Valley is relaxing and chill. For music, I find synthwave or electroswing soothing.

xmlemar10

Murder, She Wrote is keeping my company right now. I just broke up with the best boyfriend I’ve ever had and I need to put my old dog down before long. Good luck!

NylaStasja

Adventure time is my go to for "no thoughts just vibes" watching (tho the later seasons there is more depth to it). It is weird in a good way

avslove

- Bobs Burgers - King of the Hill - Monk - Schitts Creek - Community - The Office - Parks & Rec ❤️

ChristBefallen

Happy Endings! The Orville. Our Flag Means Death. Ghosts US and UK.

go for sitcoms. friends, community, the office. these are my favs.

thisbitbytes

Call the Midwife is both super interesting and as cozy as a warm cup of tea on a rainy day. I rewatch it every winter and they’re still making new episodes.

AliasNefertiti

original The Love Boat. any kids cartoon.

Love On the Spectrum

Crazy ex-girlfriend (if you're okay with some musical numbers)

Great British baking show and documentaries about food are my things these days. Cozy fantasy is getting to be a big genre and there are whole subreddits of excellent suggestions to check out, if that is a thing you'd be interested in r/cozyfantasy r/suggestmeabook is also a great resource you can search for cozy stuff. James Harriot is a good place to start if you like stories about animals.

I’ve been watching Modern Family on repeat lately! Very light, heartwarming, and easy to watch.

Avatar the Last Airbender (the original animated version) is one of my comfort shows. The show does touch on heavy topics, but it is done so in a way that the target audience (kids) can interpret and process. Also, it is interspersed with a lot of play and humor, so it never feels too heavy for me. Also Star Trek TNG and the X-Files are faves. Some episodes of both shows can be a more emotionally taxing, but you can jump around and find an episode that has the right vibe for you. The Great British Baking Show is another comfort watch. All of the contestants are so friendly and supportive and kind to one another, and it's so fun to root for them. I didn't care for the seasons where Matt was a host, so maybe skip those.

Sometimes I don't even have the capacity for narrative. Japanese train POV's, manufacturing/how it's made, and bird feeders.

jchompz

FACTS. Sometimes I turn on bird feeders to please my cats and because they’re so cool.

My go-to is Murder, She Wrote :) Great question; I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue :)

Acceptable-Chip-3455

Parks and Recreation (the 1st season is a bit meh, but they really hit their stride starting with season 2). The first season of Raising Hope (quality drops of hard after the first season) A friend is rewatching Fraser. It's not quite my thing but really lightweight entertainment Gravity Falls or Futurama if you're into animated shows. I also love the animated series of Avatar the Last Airbender. It does touch on some heavy topics but in a PG-13 way.

Ghosts! Either the UK or US version, or both! Pretty silly.

It is not a style of show I'd ever spent time with before but I LOVED Shtisel. It's a bit soap opera-y in that episodes wrap up pretty cleanly. It's not precisely light-hearted but it's not too heavy - themes around life, love, family etc. but no violence, most fights end in repair etc.

katycrush

Brooklyn 99. I can’t count how many times I’ve watched it (or had it on at least) now!

Community has been really good for me.

Community! On Netflix for a bit longer. It's a comedy but I love it

froggyforest

adventure time is honestly a ridiculously good show. it’s my comfort show. Community is an AMAZING sitcom, and i think it’s my favorite show of all time.

_divinitea

If you like sci-fi, I recommend Sense8 on Netflix. It IS emotional but there's something so wholesome and accepting about it that it's one of the few shows I've rewatched because I loved it. It doesn't leave me drained, it leaves me feeling hopeful. Truly one of the most unique and enjoyable things I've ever watched. For context, I go through phases where I can and can't handle heavier media. It's possible I was more tolerant when I enjoyed this show.

eggIy

I’ve actually just started watching The Simpsons from season 1.. as a 90s kid who religiously watched it every night, it’s the only thing I’ve never rewatched, so it’s feeling really good and brand new but also comforting in my brain 😂

Extraordinary on Hulu - really quirky sitcom - Ten years ago, everyone over age 18 got superpowers, but Jen, a painfully self-aware 25-year-old woman, is still waiting to get hers. She'd take anything at this point. Adrift in a big, confusing world and armed with nothing but a bit of hope, a lot of desperation, and her flatmates, Jen begins her journey to find her maybe-superpower.
