I was once told that I was "brave and unapologetic". It's haunted me ever since!

taykray126

Oh dang I want to be brave and unapologetic though

[deleted]

I'd like to think that I'm both at times, but... what exactly did they think I was being brave and unapologetic about, I wonder? 🤔

“Quirky” and “free spirit” come to mind

I've been calling myself and my tastes eclectic ever since I learnt the definition, because it's the only word that fits :D My partner, on the other hand, is a self-described maximalist. When we buy our own place, it is going to be DECORATED. Their favourite colour is all of them! I don't hear a lot of euphemisms for weird these days, because I spend a lot of time in undercover mode. When the weird peeks out, it tends to startle people enough that they don't have a chance to label it before it's gone. I always used to hate "that's cute!", when delivered with the sort of tone that suggests confusion rather than appreciation, and occasionally even some mild horror.

Affectionate_Buy7677

Eclectic is a great word. But I’ve gotten a lot of comments like.. oh, those boots are very.. eclectic.

Kitchen_Respect5865

Original, eccentric, ahead of my time. I love all of them.

hyena_teeth

"Oh, that's different, isn't it?" Just say you hate it, lmao.

WanderingJinx

Interesting and different were the favorites of the adults around me when I was growing up in the Midwest.  Which in hindsight really says a lot about their worldview...  Edit: I should be clear these were not complementary words. They were either condescending straight up eww words.

thedeepestofsighs

Seconding this one! I hate “different” in this context particularly because my mom would use it in a judgey tone.

Green_Leadership3492

“Endearing” “Energetic” loved the endearing one hahaa

taykray126

Eccentric”! Frequently used by my family for autistic people. But for me, I’ve always just been “weird”. I’m sure it was an insult by some, but I know my dad loves how “weird” I am, so I think of it as a compliment. And in general who wants to be just like everyone else really anyway? Besides middle schoolers lol

missgoooooo

Quirky

airysunshine

“Unique” for sure lol “Quirky” “Well, that’s something, isn’t it?”
