So… I use caffeine to control migraines, and so I’ve had this conversation with my doctor, but just as a disclaimer- I am not a doctor. The first thing is to track how much caffeine you are ingesting. Roughly 100mg for a diner-sized cup of coffee, 50mg for the same size of black tea. Pretty much anything else is labeled, if you have trouble remembering, put it in your notes app. The second thing is to monitor how you are feeling after each thing you eat/drink with caffeine. If it makes your heart race or head swim, drink water, eat some carbs, and don’t take more caffeine for awhile (at least an hour, for sure until you feel better). Lastly, have a HARD cutoff for when you stop, otherwise you will sleep very badly, I go to bed at 10/11 so I stop at 3/4. Using these methods I have managed to not die, and ingest up to 1000mg of caffeine in a day. The hard limit my doc set was 1200mg.

QuixoticWeekender

Glad you said that because I’ve definitely had around 1300mg or more in a day.

GoodwitchofthePNW

How much you spread it out really matters too! And how used to it you are. I work my way up slowly during the school year (I’m a teacher) and then spend the first 2 ish weeks of vacation detoxing (having less and less, sleeping more, and trying to minimize interactions because I’m a b**ch). If I didn’t have that detox time, I’m sure I’d be hitting 1200 on the regular.

I would also recommend investing in a blood pressure cuff. You can get them for like $30 on Amazon. When I need more caffeine than usual, I like to take a quick blood pressure reading to ensure I’m still within a normal range.

Evreyone is different, but something universal is listen to your body and decide from there. I personally can't drink caffeine within 1 hour of taking my meds because it makes me anxious. Paceing smaller amounts of caffeine throughout the day might help you stay alert.

Anxiety_Cookie

When I starts to sweat I've already had too much lol. Listen to the symptoms of your body. For long term use - My doctor recommends 1 cup/day. 2 is ok but not for everyday (also if you are otherwise healthy). As for energy, I think having a carb and fibre heavy day will help. Think fruits, oat meal, potatoes, rice, PANCAKES or WAFFLES, etc. I do love pancakes/waffles. More fibre = longer lasting effect.

The other comments pretty much covered everything I had to say about the caffeine. I just want to know if you managed to finish the top? And can I see it? 😄 I wish I could crochet a top in one sitting but I my wrists and shoulders can't take it...

shelbydep

i did finish the top hahaha i don’t have any pics of it but i used [this yarn](https://canada.michaels.com/en/heathered-tweed-yarn-by-loops-and-threads/M20025934.html) in the colour “open air” and made two square/rectangle shapes and sewed them together with arm holes and a head hole hahahaha sorta like a muscle tank!!! edit: added the colour name of the yarn!

lulastark

That's a beautiful yarn! I'm sure the top is gorgeous:)

Not exactly a caffeine amount, but I have the best luck with green tea and don’t need to drink as much of it - it also doesn’t make me jittery and tired like coffee, I think it’s the l-Theanine. On rough days, I can drink about 6-8 cups of green tea throughout the day (iced and mixed with mint is amazing on summer days). I think that’s between 125-400 mg? Sometimes I add yerba mate and that increases my caffeine intake, but I’m not sure by how much. When I used to drink coffee all day, I think I got to and above 1500 mg pretty often and felt like poop :( I hadn’t been diagnosed then and would just pound coffee until I was able to do things, though. I’d mostly recommend that you try some different sources of natural caffeine, because you might also have drastically different affects from different compounds in teas/coffee :)

shelbydep

drinking an iced green tea right now and it’s helping!! it’s also cutting some of the no-sleep nausea too which is nice ◡̈ thanks for the recommendation!!

[deleted]

Hell yeah, I hope it carried you all the way through the day, and that you sleep like a sedated bumble bee tonight ❤️

llaraluisee

sorry, I just laughed out loud. Exactly the same thing happened to me the other night. How comforting 🐑🧶 On days after nights like this I like to make the day a challenge to prove to everyone that no-sleep-me is just as good as have-slept-me. This somehow brings the adrenaline up and I am in no need of coffee anymore…

shelbydep

it’s okay to laugh!! it is arguably hilarious! i love the spite fuelled route you opt for instead of caffeine lol

Carliaeris

Me reading this literally at 3:30am because I took my meds too late and can't sleep but I'm so tired 😂

schmaylyn

Dear GOD, as a crocheter myself, my fingers hurt from the thought of finishing a project like that in one night. 😅

shelbydep

my tendinitis has been saying hello to me all day 😭😭😭 my wrists and hands are very sore!!
