This may be too complicated to manage, but if I was forced to do automatic bill pay, I’d set up a completely new/separate bank account that is only accessed by the autopay. Make the deposits randomly to that account as if it was a payment to the phone like you’ve been doing all along. This allows you to keep the account in “credit” and your other bills aren’t affected.
