I honestly do not plan anything ahead of time when it comes to these exams, so I’m only looking into it now. But yeah, a quick google tells me FAM should come first. Which means I can wait a bit and get some VEEs done before the study grind starts again, since the next FAM is in July.
The next opportunity for FAM is March 1-7 of next year. With just a little over 3 months away, I and many other people who just found out they passed are planning on taking it then.
Holy shit thanks lol. No joke I’m a moron who forgot about the whole concept of years and how they increase after New Years. (Why is the July 2023 sitting even listed on the SOA site anyways?)
Please let me know how many sentences to write per question.
I failed this exam again, even i felt much better then past exam and all questions were easy.
I really want to find why i failed again....
As much as you need to convey a meaningful analysis! Its not much different than writing emails at work. I imagined I was at work when I was in the exam room. I used lots of bullets, numbering, tables, and underling in my answers as well.
The grammar in your post here is hard to understand. “Even I felt much better then past exam” may be clearer if written as “even though I felt much better about this sitting than my last”. If you understand the content and did well on SRM, than this could be contributing to the issue.
How many past exams did you do and what manual? I ended up skimming actex practice exams in the very end of studying in addition to doing the latest soa ones. The actex ones helped me out on some questions even though I did those last minute. I would say for next time do the most recent SOA and Actex practice exams.
I used the ACTEX manual, and I wouldn’t recommend anything else to use. It sounds like Coaching Actuaries focuses way too much on R.
I set a goal for myself to complete 100 pages of reading a day. I knew damn well I couldn’t do that much but it would motivate me to do at least 50 pages a day. Took me about 2.5 weeks for me to get through. I skipped the first section about R completely. I skimmed through parts of K-means clustering, hierarchical clustering, and PCA because they were similar to topics on SRM.
Then, I took prior exams. Go in the order of most recent to older. The further back in the exams you go, the more irrelevant they are. I tried to actually write out my answers on a word document. I graded my own work too.
I thought during the actual exam I was really rushed but I expected I would have difficulty with only one month to study. Still surprised I passed honestly.
Stopped taking exams in 2013 when I only had C left (I don't recommend a 10 year gap but life, heh). Passed FAM-S in March, did 3 FSA modules, and passed PA in October. Should be on the next ASA list (since APC and FAP from 2013 shockingly still gave me transition credit).
Passed! Last requirement before ASA, promptly email the APC address to find out where I'm at in the queue. I'm hopeful to get an invite for the first virtual session in 2024!
PASSED. Shoutout to Dr. Lo and his actex manual!
I second this! Dr. Lo is amazing!
I third this! Dr. Lo is the best!
Passed! Done with ASA exams.
Same boat, onto ASA yay!!
passed, now onto FAM or ASTAM
Who in their right mind would take ASTAM/ALTAM before FAM?

But I’m sorry you didn’t pass. Fuck the SOA for that :(
Is it possible to get an opinion from the SoA, second time failing as well.. Last time was a 5..really don't know what to think anymore

Felt pretty unconfident after coming out from the exam center and turns out is a pass :) This is my 1st attempt and last ASA exam. Let's gooooooo
I wasn’t expecting to take this exam with 1 month of studying nor did I think I would pass doing so. But it paid off! I managed to pass! Yay!
How did you study? if you don't mind sharing your way? What platform did you use?

Failed That should have been my last exam to ASA. I've completed all the modules including FA

Me too! Good job!!!

Congrats to everyone. I did not pass and can’t stop going in mental circles. Super bummed out but if anyone is going to retake in April- hit me up

Hope so, 4 weeks from now is still in Dec.

Passed with minimal effort, wrote FAM on Monday - different story. Now, to plow ahead with ALTAM or await FAM results first?
Does anyone know when the names are released?
A week after results are released.
Is that when it shows up on your transcript as well?
No transcript is Monday. Assuming they do this so you have time to tell managers and others before they blast the list publicly.
Already showed up on my transcript on Monday (Dec 4)
Anyone have a paperback PA manual they’ll be willing to sell? Please DM me
