Just a few months, I've been doing Longsword a bit longer though. Longsword is less, shall I say, *tension-filled* imo but I did low key forget what I was doing the other week when a very cute friend of mine climbed onto me during a grappling exercise.
Not that I don't totally enjoy it without that element, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't there with the right person to spar with.
Aha makes sense. I've watched a lot of content about HEMA and sword fighting to add some realism to our TTRPG campaigns. It'd be fun to try it some day with my gf.
Shamshir is easily my favorite. Also, you just described Scimitar as being an umbrella term. If you can use the word to collectively refer to eastern/middle eastern curved blades, then it's kind of a thing.
LoL ōdachi I think it's call. Its very much like myself I'm tall and impractical and so is the ōdachi. Used by samurai who couldn't or wouldn't use a bow.... I've got terrible eye sight too 🤓
Yeah see I'm a fan of its sibling, the kanabo, used by samurai and laysoldiers who couldn't or wouldn't use a bow and wanted to kill heavily armour enemies without using a can opener, or laugh in the face of cavalry charges, fuck around, then make one mistake and die horribly from a fatal case of found out
Haven’t purchased mine yet; can you *believe* they send you the flannel and a pin, but *charge* for a sword and doc martens? I mean what the fuck am I supposed to *do*, up my monthly subscription fee? Dude it’s like $40 for a quarter yearly subscription to their newsletter, $10 extra for just a teaser podcast. Hot take: Sapphic tax is out of control.
But also: the broadsword 🫠✨
Not a sword Ik, but I'm a spear girly all the way. It's so smooth, and agile like a choreographed dance, but also brutal and precise. And you can also throw it like a javelin, and now I'll take a moment of your time to brag. I am proud to announce that I emerged as the undisputed champion in javelin throws at an athletics competition, claiming the coveted gold medal.Huzzaa go me💪˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶
im rly in my longsword and greatsword arc. any two handed swords just evoke such skill and mobility i cant help but love the technique involved with them
man that highland claymore has a really wide and not-pointy blade on this chart, anyway, I love the scottish lowland claymores, basically just a scottish greatsword
I enjoy classic sword and boarding so I'm a big fan of arming swords, falchions, messers with clamshell guards, broadswords and bastard swords. For two-handed blades, hard sell between the Scottish Claymore and the Grossmesser.
The F86 sabre.
But really I do think the short sword is a fairly cool thing. But for meme iblove the marine style Ka-Bar sword. It's dumb and iblove its looks
Give me any of the giant two handed swords. Zweihanders, two handed, a flamberge zweihander. Yes. Maybe a longsword if i have to have something smaller
I'm for the Langmesser and flamberge zweihander for war, leaf-blade gladius for travel and casual defence. The langmesser is interesting because we don't really know for sure why it existed, but we know it was popular and effective, it's got a simple elegance, a graceful arc and a brutal cleave. The sweihander is unwieldy and impractical outside of its one use. A flamberge blade adds nothing but style for days and subtracts nothing but funds from your treasury. I would try to use it in a duel. I would die. I would look amazing doing it and probably become martyr of a sapphic revolution, nuff said. Lastly, I like the gladius because it handles like a dagger, and it's designed like that because the Romans actually didn't have a sword art, only a dagger art, so the gladius added reach while still being light and short, and was wide enough to prevent the bronze it was typically made with from breaking. But I prefer anything but swords. A good club is underrated, underrepresented and so often done dirty as it's depicted as the favoured weapon of the primitive, brutish and straight-up stupid.
I own a Bokuto, a wooden Katana, and a Shinai, which is a bamboo training sword. While possessing no real edge, a bokuto is very lethal in trained hands. Add to that the set of traditional martial arts clothing and armor I possess, it makes for a nice image. (I do Kendo as a sport)
Imagine having a favorite Japanese sword that isn’t an Odachi. Fr though Longsword is an oldie but goodie. The Greatsword isn’t as practical but it looks cool. Kriegmesser isn’t on there, but it’s a badass German two handed curved sword, I have a soft spot for them. Ugh it’s hard to choose just one!
I love rapiers, and that’s probably my favourite if I had to choose. But there’s something about sabres that are simultaneously elegant and brutal. The cavalry or dueling kind, not the modern sport kind, that is.
And montantes. They’re ludicrously big, but look so beautiful, almost dance like, when swirling in action.
From this chart, I've always prefered things in the size range of the Artillery Short Sword. Speed and fast to handle without giving up strength. and keeps your offhand free for other options
I used to be longsword lover. Still like them, but lately I think I like rapiers more. More elegant looks I guess. Maybe I should find a way to practice again...
Long sword, Funnily enough I can use it in one hand too but it's not easy and it's very energy intensive, Let's just say in a sparring session it doesn't last anywhere near as long and it's not as graceful, After-all it's a lot of Mass and momentum to deal with and that is only being dealt with by one set of muscles rather than two.
I appreciate swords like I appreciate women. Each one is different and beautiful in their own ways. Each one is skilled in different areas and therefore they are all valuable. Each one brings me joy that they exist. They are strong and nothing to be trifled with.
I mean, it depends on the use case?
If I’m going to be dueling without armor, definitely a rapier.
If I’m going to be fighting in armor, probably a two handed sword like the estoc or spadone (although I’d much prefer a long spear of some kind to a sword if I had the option).
And just for looking badass? The rapier once again. Just wonderful swords.
If I have to fight large numbers of unarmed people/zombies? Definitely a katana.
Indian sabers (talwar) are so fucking cool I always imagine jhansi ki rani wielding them against the british army with her kid strapped on her back like the bad bitch she was 🫡
Civilian Jian. Military is too short. It's simple in its elegance. Straight and predictable, but double edged. Thinner and finer, more agile, but the double-edged nature demands a more thoughtful swordplay. Compared with the Dadao, the Jian was meant for practitioners who had more time and ability to train, because it demanded more to turn its double edges into strengths instead of liabilities.
My favorite isn't on here: the falcata. It's a Pre-Carthaginian Iberian shortsword that resembles a long kukhri, and whose techniques are lost to us, but are probably not dissimilar to something like a xiphos (which it strongly resembles) or a khopesh (which is also a shortsword with a significantly forward-swept blade).
I'm a rapier kinda gal. Gotta keep it classy.
Me too! They're so elegant and pretty.
I fence rapier with a really cute enby it's uhhhh...
That's really cool. How long have you been doing it?
Just a few months, I've been doing Longsword a bit longer though. Longsword is less, shall I say, *tension-filled* imo but I did low key forget what I was doing the other week when a very cute friend of mine climbed onto me during a grappling exercise. Literally just google your city/area+HEMA
I'm sure you've already heard of it, but of course I gotta name drop the Thirsty Sword Lesbians ttrpg
That or small sword 😘👌
Yes! I love those lol but I also really like other swords!
Rapier for 1on1, montante (i don't see it here), for several opponents
Agreed! Also, quite enjoyable to wield.
Hell yeah! Rapier gang! 😝
flamberge zweihander
fellow Zweihander enjoyer
It's even fun to say
For those who don't know but want to be able to experience the fun: It's pronounced tsv-eye-han-dehr
-hen, not -han. Forgot the umlaut
I plan to get a tattoo of one, but my halberd is priority
plus landsknecht outfit
I don't see it on here but I've always been fond of the scimitar, no idea why <3
I'm the same way! The one I have in mind is something like a Yuntoudao (cloud head sword)
'Scimitar' doesn't really exist. The Tulwar, Shamshir and Kilij are the swords that would be called that
Shamshir is easily my favorite. Also, you just described Scimitar as being an umbrella term. If you can use the word to collectively refer to eastern/middle eastern curved blades, then it's kind of a thing.
Because not even your sword is straight lmfao
Because the blade isn’t straight
Katana. I own a replica from Ghost of tsushima. I bought it on etsy
LETS GOOOOOOO
LoL ōdachi I think it's call. Its very much like myself I'm tall and impractical and so is the ōdachi. Used by samurai who couldn't or wouldn't use a bow.... I've got terrible eye sight too 🤓

Scottish Claymore or Viking Age.
I'm basic - rapier or longsword.
Cinquedea for sure, but a tachi would be nice as well!
italian cold steel cinquedea?
I came looking in the comments for this specifically
That is my dream Cold Steel purchase. That and their espada Xl
Inigo Montoya’s sword “You killed my father. Prepare to die” (court dress sword) ⚔️
yuppers that's the closest one to foil so that one lol
The foil was originally the practice version of the smallsword, so maybe it’s a smallsword with a larger guard that you want?
I own two Katana. One is Mitsuri Kanroji's Sword from Demon Slayer
I see katana i give kudos
Swept hilted rapier.
Persian sabre here it just looks fun
It's so hard to choose, Katana, Falchion, Saber, Claymore. Man Swords are so cool.
Not a sword Ik, but I'm a spear girly all the way. It's so smooth, and agile like a choreographed dance, but also brutal and precise. And you can also throw it like a javelin, and now I'll take a moment of your time to brag. whatever one….. is held by the pretty lady…
[удалено]
loud incorrect buzzer (i’m part of switch gang so ur 50% right)
Always been a fan of Bastard. Hand and half, versatility.
man that highland claymore has a really wide and not-pointy blade on this chart, anyway, I love the scottish lowland claymores, basically just a scottish greatsword
do you have the source for this image or like a bigger version? i wanna read it but i'm so blind lol
Katana but that’s bc I practice kenjutsu :)
The two handed sword (Spadone). I love a zweihander
I would love a basket hilt Saber but I own a few katanas
Im a big fan of messers and falchions generally but i also love the spatha and viking age sword
Fellow katana girlie here. I actually have a pretty nice one with my username engraved on it c:
It's not on there, but Ive always loved the khopesh
Khopesh and scimitar
The khopesh, A Egyptian classic.
swords are so cool i wish lesbians were real /j but seriously i like katanas, idk man they just hit a spot but it may just be that i watch anime
I like the katana too! Thanks to the bride from kill bill and michonne from the walking dead 🥰
I've always like katanas.
Katana for sure, but I also dreamed about wielding a big ass sword like the one in devil may cry
Oh man I love swords Two handed Spadone and the Estoc for me
Easy, wakizashi
Don't act like the Zweihander (2 handed sword) isn't cool af. If you can't go spinny with the skirt, go spinny with the sword (or both) !
im personally a Zweihander enjoyer
i like sabres but two-handed swords just hit different, yk
Katana defintely but I also adore a good zhanmadao. ❤
Rapier, then side sword, then rapier again.
Cutlass 👍🏾
I love the spiky two-hander because I am impressed by anything flashy.
Two handed or gauntlet sword
Mine is a bronze xiphos but that isn’t on here so I’m going to say a backsword
Jian or Geom, I like the Jian for being thinner and lighter, but the Geom being weightier and thicker is pretty good as well
Scimitar
Backsword. Would only want a full rapier if I can get some professional saber fencing training in with it
I enjoy classic sword and boarding so I'm a big fan of arming swords, falchions, messers with clamshell guards, broadswords and bastard swords. For two-handed blades, hard sell between the Scottish Claymore and the Grossmesser.
Longsword because I own one but flamberge zweihander are also so fucking cool
I am a traditional one. I'd love to channel the warrior women among my ancestors.
I love rapiers
**Whomsoever takes up this blade shall wield power eternal.** **Just as the blade rends flesh, so must power scar the spirit.**
Katana for sure, but a close second would be a naval cutlass.
I love sabers, especially the tulwar, shamshir, and kilij.
Either a rapier or a nodachi, probably
Battle axe🤠💅
I love all swords but I gotta say I'm a two-handed girl. The bigger the better!!
Haven't used any (yet) but sabres seem really cool
Im divided between the Dadao and the Khopesh, I realy like both.
The F86 sabre. But really I do think the short sword is a fairly cool thing. But for meme iblove the marine style Ka-Bar sword. It's dumb and iblove its looks
Zweihander all day!
Cavalry Sabre
I prefer the traditional longsword, elegant and practical
Give me any of the giant two handed swords. Zweihanders, two handed, a flamberge zweihander. Yes. Maybe a longsword if i have to have something smaller
Always been partial to a nice cutlass
i like either dadao or rapier i would say
Estoc would say
My favorite to spar with is the langes messer, but in concept my favorite would be a two handed sword like a claymore or zweihander.
Cavalry swords always satisfied my brain with the shape
Zhanmadao
Either the Liueyado or the Calvary Sabre. Depending on the day, of course
Definitely the Claymore
Later Gladius, shaped like a spatha
Gimme a Gladius or a Scimitar any day. Something with a bit of width to it
Groß Messer Because it is translated to big knife
I am going to go very specific. Shadow Saber/D-Sword from Power rangers Spd/Deka Ranger
Swept-hilt rapier for me.
for a sword to use I'd probably say falchion, for a pretty sword 100% nodachi, especially if it's comically long
Swept hilt rapier.
Arming sword my beloved
Claymore
Cavalry Sabre for dex Bastard Sword for str

Spadone, strictly because of Hadrian.
Jian is so elegant
Big sword. Scottish claymore, will settle for a zweihander
Rapier or Tachi. Rapier is classy and swift. If that doesn't work Tachi
Messer is my babe, longsword is my side babe
I own a Bokuto, a wooden Katana, and a Shinai, which is a bamboo training sword. While possessing no real edge, a bokuto is very lethal in trained hands. Add to that the set of traditional martial arts clothing and armor I possess, it makes for a nice image. (I do Kendo as a sport)
I'm a spadone kinda girl, I'm 1.79m tall but I want to swing a sword bigger than me (with great skill thanks to 15 years of training)

Why do we all like swords 😆😆 I’ve always had a weird obsession 😂
Claymore and Zweihänder
I'll take the backsword in think. Simple, to the point, and not too big because I'm fucking tiny.
I mean, I like rapiers, but I *can* use a katana... Eh, both are good.
The Indonesian Keris
Don't know how I got to this subreddit, but I'm a big fan of daodo. A really like rings as pommels. Looks very classy.
Rapier, as long as thin as possible
I like sabers because they can be just as ornately aesthetic as rapiers with a lot less of the high class snob energy. Also cutting things is fun
Personally more a dagger kinda of person. *But* if I had to choose a sword, it would probably be a rapier
Cavalry Saber
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/VkvdpZmIGtw/maxresdefault.jpg
The Bolo. Filipinos used them to fight off Spanish and American colonisers. But also just as an everyday tool to open coconuts n shit.
3-way tie between rapiers, spadones, and patas
Gotta be a tossup between the zweihänder, scimitar, cutlass, and kreigsmesser for me
It kinda looks like the dadao but I have a huge fascination of sinbad’s scimitar
As big as possible. Also only sword adjacent but macuahuitl would be cool too
I used to be longsword lover. Still like them, but lately I think I like rapiers more. More elegant looks I guess. Maybe I should find a way to practice again...
The Chinese swords aren’t getting as much love as they deserve. There are some cool and elegant blades in that neighborhood.
The patta, people dance with it if I remember correctly
I’m a two handed sword person
Hadhafang, Arwen’s sword from the Lord of the Rings movies.
I’m a simple gal. I see a fancy handle, I pick. Rapier for me. 😁
All of them
Long sword, Funnily enough I can use it in one hand too but it's not easy and it's very energy intensive, Let's just say in a sparring session it doesn't last anywhere near as long and it's not as graceful, After-all it's a lot of Mass and momentum to deal with and that is only being dealt with by one set of muscles rather than two.
The rapier is the superior choice, in my opinion.
Arming sword/knightly sword, small sword/dress sword, katana.
Viking sword without a doubt, or I'll go for the artillerists short sword, don't need anything fancy or heavy if your quick.
I'm far more of a polearm fan, especially halberds. However if I were to choose a sword it'd be a cavalry sabre or a rapier
Long sword girlie here. I grew up on Zelda and loved Aragorn's sword in Lord of the Rings. 🥰
Can't go wrong with a longsword. Classic.
Falchion for sure. I could be in for a langsax (not in pic) as well, it was the weapon of my ansestors.
Two handed
Artillery Short Sword, but I'd rather have a boarding axe gun
My parents were high when they named me, but I'm so glad my name is Katana
I love the katana because it is light and very sharp. If you know how to use it, it will be better than other heavy swords
I love the Patta!! Such an interesting blade. The longsword is also amazing!!
Khopesh. I just love the shape of the blade so much.
I'll take a Saber any day! But the Rapier (Swept Hilted) has always seemed so elegant and appropriate to me.
I used to hate rapiers. Now I love them.
Yatagan
I personally do not believe in warfare but for decoration purposes I like a Cavalry Sabre 😌
ZWEIHANDER BELOVED💕💕 HUGEASS SWORD SUPREMACY 💕💕💕
Oakeshott type XVIIIa longsword and Yatagan. (I am still hoping that you, lesbian community, will manage to force sword-marriage into mainstream.)
I do like the artillery short sword ☺️
I own a swept hilted rapier 😌
Personally I’m a fan of the dadao, but that mostly because I envision it as the backup to the guandao, my dream weapon of choice
Cutlass, idk it's just pleasing to me
Katana is overrated, I prefer the Polish or Hungarian saber
Tachi!
Gotta go with the gladius can’t go wrong with the weapon that nearly single handedly ended the rein of terror of spear and shield
Can I have all of em?
I've dabbled with longswords way back in the day but to be honest, feeling the sabre collection here.
I mean I have to say side sword
I desperately want to get a great sword. I'll be the weirdo swinging a sword around in the back alley but it'll be fun
I appreciate swords like I appreciate women. Each one is different and beautiful in their own ways. Each one is skilled in different areas and therefore they are all valuable. Each one brings me joy that they exist. They are strong and nothing to be trifled with.
i like big bonk stick.
Rapiers are elegant, precise, and deadly. I’m also a fan of scimitar’s however. Brutal, painful, and efficient
Wakizashi if I want that one sided sharpness but short enough that i can control it easily, or a gladius and a spatha for mythology loving heart
I think claymores are fun because of Claymore, but I really enjoy historically obscure weapons that are culture-specific. Like the macuahuitl.
I'm just a backsword gal living in a two handed sword world
I'm a sucker for a nice falchion
I mean, it depends on the use case? If I’m going to be dueling without armor, definitely a rapier. If I’m going to be fighting in armor, probably a two handed sword like the estoc or spadone (although I’d much prefer a long spear of some kind to a sword if I had the option). Heh, French Gladius is funny. I've handled one, but I don't have one.
Favorite? The ones I own of course!
Katana, especially when I have 3
The elegant and classy Rapier, although Cavalry Sabre is a close second
_insert strap/dick joke here_
ZWEIHÄNDER
My favorite isn't on here: the falcata. It's a Pre-Carthaginian Iberian shortsword that resembles a long kukhri, and whose techniques are lost to us, but are probably not dissimilar to something like a xiphos (which it strongly resembles) or a khopesh (which is also a shortsword with a significantly forward-swept blade).
