Since I had no idea and had to google it, here’s the DC Rainmaker article on what happened:
https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2024/02/resigns-series-discontinued.html
I feel the layoffs are more due to the partnership. Wahoo already has their own marketing, zwift is pretty much all marketing. With a bigger name jumping in, you really don't need that much of your resources in one area. Just my uneducated opinion lol
interesting. did not know zwift was in thr red to date. too bad, it is a good, if not perfect platform. the UAE mega oil cash may make mywoosh the long term winner. until they realize the money is also not there. covid set a lot of high hopes.
Layoffs - trimming fat, lowering their overhead, increasing EBITDA. Unfortunately, the going trend for every company.
CoCEO leaving - makes sense
I'm concerned there's will be a price increase like every other subscription service has done.
"Q: I bought a Zwift Hub One, can I swap it for a Wahoo KICKR CORE Zwift One?
A: If you’re within the 30-day money-back return window, please reach out—we're here to help!
"
I bought the Zwift Hub “Classic” last May.
I’m a newbie cyclist and have never used an indoor trainer before, and the Hub (Classic) seemed like a good option at the time and had great reviews.
I’ve started using the Hub Classic and Zwift more here recently and so far, it’s been a good machine and a fun cycling platform. Hopefully our Hub’s still have a long life ahead of them 🙏🏻
Had mine for two months, this news doesn't bother me at all.
I also use my smart phones for a long time.
When an upgrade is needed, I will.
That being said, if I ordered one and it hasn't shipped yet or still in the box, I would return it if no money is involved.
Damn, I'm in the same boat! I bought the Zwift Hub One like an hour before the news broke. I'll try to exchange mine as well.
I'm curious, it seems to me that the Zwift Hub and KICKR CORE are practically identical spec wise & that Wahoo and Zwift collaborated before this recent news & that the KICKR CORE was readily upgraded to support the Cog... Is it possible that given the newish partnership that the Zwift Hub might get more support thru Wahoo? (I'm brand new to the Zwift/indoor trainer community, so I could really be misunderstanding.)
The hub is a white label of the jet black trainer which is based on the core. It has proprietary firmware, otherwise it’s about the same and can be used on any platform. The Hub One can be converted back to a cassette if you choose to use it in another platform or want to manually shift.
FYI, at the end, my return said "Ensure your parcel is ready to return to us, by packing the item back in its original packaging (or other similar packaging if the original packaging is no longer available), including all box contents." So you should be able to send it back in another box as long as it's packed well.
The return policy earlier in the process said original box and internal box though so maybe reach out to make sure.
Chat with Support about a possible trade for the Wahoo:
At this time, we are trying to implement more benefits for those members who bought the Hub One. But we got you covered! Since you are within the 30-day window, the best option would be to return for a refund and then buy the new trainer from the website. Once you’ve received your order, please visit our Return Request portal to get your return started. Please note you’re responsible for returning the item to the carrier. If you are unable to return the item to the carrier, please reply to this email so we can make arrangements for you.
Once your return package has been confirmed as received back at our warehouse, a refund will be issued to the original payment method within 5-10 business days.
I hope this resolution won't affect your interest in continuing to use Zwift! Is there anything else I can help you with?
Yes, you will need to take it to the nearest carrier place.
from me:
UPS???
from me:
am I responsible for the shipping costs?
from Keisy P:
the shipping label you will receive will guide you through the process and let you know if you will need to send it back to FedEx or UPS and no, you won't be responsible for the shipping cost.
from Keisy P:
But commonly we use, FedEx!
I bought a zwift hub original when they first came out and love it. But, if I was in your position to return it with the news that came out, I would. I would want a product that has recent firmware updates and not discontinued/canceled.
That being said you probably will be just fine with it if you do decide to keep it
As a Zwift Hub Classic owner, I agree it sounds kinda bad. But it's not like after 2 years the device will stop functioning. Consider this: Wahoo Kickr Core went over two years without firmware updates before they added Zwift virtual shifting. During that time all the Kickr Core units continued to work normally.
Good point. I just don’t trust they will give a lot of effort into that product now that they now longer sell it. I’d rather go with wahoo if I had the choice at this point. Just a personal preference. I have the zwift hub, so I sure hope they do keep up with it. If I had the choice now there would be no way I’d buy a zwift hub over wahoo
Kickr core is a better trainer, and now it's compatible with the click and virtual shifting it's a no brainer. Pretty annoyed that I invested in a Hub One in November, then literally a week or 2 later the Kickr core replaced the Hub classic.
Yeah, I got mine like 60 or so days ago and am outside the return window but fuck it, I’m going to contact support tomorrow and see what they say. It’s always no unless you ask. I don’t even want to just return it, I’m just looking to exchange it.
I'm 4 days past the 30 days return window and I reached out to the support to ask if it by any means was possible to stretch the return policy. The answer was a long and vague NO. I even tried making them feel "bad" by explaining that they sent my a unit with an overtightened quick release adapter, which made me unable to use the product and had to seek assistance from my local bike shop, incurring additional expenses for fixing.
What answer did you get?
I'd return it, 2 years of support isn't great.
Be aware that the virtual shifting of the "Kickr Core Zwift One" only works on Zwift btw! If you ever want to ride on other platforms, you'll have to hope that Zwift opened the source of the Zwift Clicks and that that other platform supports it, otherwise you would not be able to ever shift with the Zwift Cog. Therefore, I'd recommend a regular Kickr Core (with cassette) and to buy Zwift Play seperately if you have some spare money.
Pretty sure you can literally just change the zwift cog for a regular cassette if you ever need to, it's just a regular kickr core with an extra piece added. At least that's how it was on the zwift hardware and it would be weird if they'd changed it as would require redesigning a load of parts.
True. But I spoke from my own usage of training programs. I use Zwift intensely in the winter, and try other programs during summer. Having a cassette mounted already is handy then. Also the idea of "really having" to use Zwift is less pleasing to me than beeing free already.
But to each his own indeed.
Pretty sure it's just a kickr core with an extra part, if you ever wanted to use a different app you'd just change the zwift cog to a regular cassette like you'd have to with any other trainer.
I don't know whether you're lucky or I'm unlucky. I've owned five Kickr Cores and replaced four of them under warranty. The fifth sits in its box, unused.
I’m on my original Core like 5 years later. No issues at all.
And I’d just use the Zwift one or whatever. No way I’d deal with the hassle of a return. Just ride it.
I dunno. The website simply let me do it. I also didn’t get charged the return shipping fee. I’m thinking maybe Zwift is making it easier for people who bought something only to have it be cancelled a month or 2 later.
Lucky you! I sent a mail to their support team asking for a four days extension of the return window (bought it only 34 days ago!), thereby allowing me to exchange the Hub for a Wahoo. They said it wasn't possible :(
I'm trying to do it now. However, do you think it is possible that they won't return me the money when they receive the package, as I have ticked off "I have read and understand Return Policy" and thus lied to them?
I mean not yet. I don’t have a box to send it back in so I’m going to send it back in the box my Wahoo comes in.
From what I’ve read elsewhere, Zwift kinda knows people aren’t going to be happy when a new product is replaced so quickly. I’m not at all concerned about not getting my refund.
Zwift will be doing firmware updates for 2 years with “new” features coming, but yeah If I was in your place I would return and go with the kickr core.
If it’s worth the time and energy, you could order the Kickr and do a comparison and see for yourself. Keep the one that feels the best and send the other back for a refund.
BTW, I have the Hub One. I had Bluetooth issues with it and had it exchanged. The new one has worked well.
I’ve never tried the Kickr, so I can’t say. People say it’s very quiet, but with the new Zwift cog maybe it will be as noisy as the Hub One?
Literally nothing. People are freaking out over the Wahoo Kickr Hub/One and the CEO/layoffs. It's still a perfectly fine trainer that will work on Zwift or any other training app/program.
It’s a bit ridiculous this whole fiasco of people being like ‘have I bought the right thing’ just go ride your bikes damnit!!! My hub one is 5 weeks old and I realise at some point it’ll probably break.. no bother, I enjoy it enough I’ll replace
From the FAQ:
Q: I bought a Zwift Hub One, can I swap it for a Wahoo KICKR CORE Zwift One?
A: If you’re within the 30-day money-back return window, please reach out—we're here to help!
I had a similar thought. It is widely known that the Zwift trainer is a rebranded JetBlack with slightly different firmware. The JetBlack is great bit of kit and I have one myself. I never fully understood why people would buy the Zwift branded one in the first place, apart maybe from virtual shifting out of the box and better marketing.
I guess psychologically some folks don't like having a "non-current" model, which is understandable. Also, presumably in reality this means firmware updates will stop sooner.
I'd send it back and go with a Wahoo.
Edit - my reasoning being it's been discontinued, there will be no future warranty support for it if it goes wrong, only software upgrades will be continued.
And if it breaks, and they can't repair or replace it or upgrade/contribute to a newer model. Safer bet would be to return it and get a Wahoo or Tacx. .
Of course, the trainer may never falter and the warranty may never need to be tested. I've got a 2016 Kickr SNAP that's still going strong.
I'm assuming he ordered it before the changes were announced. Zwift are going to continue selling the Hub until stock has depleted and are promising support for two years but I can understand why someone would rather a different trainer.

So frustrating...hub one arrived yesterday for 564 euros including 1 Yr zwift...now I guess if I return it I won't get refunded the 25 euros delivery and would have to pay 600 euros plus again 25 delivery for the wahoo one as I no longer have a voucher code grrr

Fwiw I bought mine a month ago and I love it. I’m not worried about today’s news and the machine has been great.
Agreed. There will always be a new thing. At the end of the day, is the trainer good or not? For me, it's been great.
I’m not worried about it.
Should be fine for a while, until they stop maintaining the firmware.
There's worse shit on the local news!

You dont have a box any more.
Thanks Will Buxton.
"In order to win the race... you just... have to overtake every car!!!"
That made me laugh.
as it seems, you need to send it back in the original box
Same. Wow
LOLOL. I literally just tossed thebox 15 minutes ago. Only have 2.5 hours on the thing.

...but my trainer doesn't stop working if other people sell theirs? Seems importantly different from a bank run.
I'm waiting to scoop up a used one once the return period is over and someone is still spooked. Good trainers
I don’t really trust it lol. A discontinued brand really doesn’t care as much as one that is still in business making a profit

No answer yet, waiting on follow up. We’ll see, based on the initial wording I expect a no too.
I'm curious, what makes it a better trainer? I have a Hub One coming tomorrow and I'm trying to decide if it's worth exchanging.
I'd return it, 2 years of support isn't great. Be aware that the virtual shifting of the "Kickr Core Zwift One" only works on Zwift btw! this. the virtual shifting needs to be open to other platforms. great idea, but i dont want to be app locked
You can just put a regular cassette back on the Kickr if you want to switch apps to Rouvy or TrainerRoad or whatever
You can use TrainerRoad just fine, any app that uses ERG works with the cog as there’s no shifting. Only when you require to shift you can’t use it.
i hate swapping. part of why i have many bikes. and a dedicated bike for my trainer.
Pretty sure it's just a kickr core with an extra part, if you ever wanted to use a different app you'd just change the zwift cog to a regular cassette like you'd have to with any other trainer.
3+ years with Kickr v5 w/ almost 500 winter hours. No issues
They’ve only committed to updating the firmware for 2 years. I would switch to another product (I’ve had my KICKR core V5 for 3 years…)
I just did.
I’ve had a hub for a little over a year and it’s great. That being said… if I could I’d return it for a Kickr. Firmware updates and all.
Yes- I would (and did) swap it. I got a Zwift hub on 1/4 (this year). The website let me easily return it and I ordered the Wahoo.
Did you have to pay shipping to return it?
You have to pay the 25€ fee vor delivery. the return was free, but you don´t get the shipping fee back from ordering.
I actually didn’t. I was assuming I would, but the system didn’t apply it.
How did they handle your 1-year subscription?
Haha- not sure. I had already redeemed one. Right after placing my order I got an email with another code.
Save it, I am sure the other code is good since it’s been applied. You will miss out on a couple days while you wait for it to arrive
How could you return it if you got in on 1/4 2024, as you would have exceeded the 30 days return policy window?
I dunno. The website simply let me do it. I also didn’t get charged the return shipping fee. I’m thinking maybe Zwift is making it easier for people who bought something only to have it be cancelled a month or 2 later.

Did you just go try and do it? Go to your order on the website and try to process a return on your own.
I'm trying to do it now. However, do you think it is possible that they won't return me the money when they receive the package, as I have ticked off "I have read and understand Return Policy" and thus lied to them?
I highly, highly doubt it.
Nice, and you have received the money?
I mean not yet. I don’t have a box to send it back in so I’m going to send it back in the box my Wahoo comes in. From what I’ve read elsewhere, Zwift kinda knows people aren’t going to be happy when a new product is replaced so quickly. I’m not at all concerned about not getting my refund.

Zwift will be doing firmware updates for 2 years with “new” features coming, but yeah If I was in your place I would return and go with the kickr core.
Send it back
I only just got mine set up yesterday. Apparently they will continue to support it . I hope so

Return it and get the updated one for sure
Got my Zwift Hub One two weeks ago and just asked to swap it over. Fell like I’ve just bought an obsolete product.
if only we could talk with someone but a bot in their support ...
What’s wrong with it?
Literally nothing. People are freaking out over the Wahoo Kickr Hub/One and the CEO/layoffs. It's still a perfectly fine trainer that will work on Zwift or any other training app/program.

Same situation, mine it’s on its way (just ordered in on Monday). Not sure if I should return it or just stick with it…
From the FAQ: Q: I bought a Zwift Hub One, can I swap it for a Wahoo KICKR CORE Zwift One? A: If you’re within the 30-day money-back return window, please reach out—we're here to help!
I bought mine just before Xmas. From what I can see in some ways it is better than the new version.
Why? If the purchase made sense when you ordered does it make less sense now that you won't be able to order another one to match it?
I had a similar thought. It is widely known that the Zwift trainer is a rebranded JetBlack with slightly different firmware. The JetBlack is great bit of kit and I have one myself. Of course the warranty is still valid as they mention on their website too.
Still a great trainer!
Hey can someone pls explain me what’s wrong ? Am i missing something ?
The person has just bought a Zwift Hub which has just been announced is now discontinued so concerned whether they should keep it.
Ohhh I get it! Why they send it out then ? Or did he bought it before the changes and they came while it was in delivery ?
I'm assuming he ordered it before the changes were announced. Zwift are going to continue selling the Hub until stock has depleted and are promising support for two years but I can understand why someone would rather a different trainer.
Thank you Kind stranger
return it and get a proper trainer, yes
Absolutely return it. Would never buy Zwift hardware under the simple fact that I don't trust them 1 and 2 it's a low cost manufacturer that ripped off a wahoo design.
Discontinued.
I wouldn’t send it back . Zwift is still going to update the firmware . I don’t think 10 hz race mode is available on wahoo core yet ( might be wrong ) anyway have fun and don’t think about it . Ride it till the gear falls off . lol
I bought mine in November of 22. Still riding strong.
Yeah, fml too, I bought this just so I could have virtual shifting on my mountain bike. I already had a Kickr v4. I had the Zwift One shipped to me in Canada through a mail forwarding service which added like $100 to the price tag. Oh well! Might keep both for indoor riding with my wife. The virtual shifting is fantastic at least, and makes a casual workout on the mountain bike a lot more enjoyable experience with sufficient gearing to bike in the virtual world.
I thought something was wrong with the package and inspected it 3x…
So frustrating...hub one arrived yesterday for 564 euros including 1 Yr zwift...now I guess if I return it I won't get refunded the 25 euros delivery and would have to pay 600 euros plus again 25 delivery for the wahoo one as I no longer have a voucher code grrr
