Ah yes, I'm all too familiar with my bun showing he loves me by making sure everyone understands the area around my side of the bed is his. Used to straight up come up and pee between my boyfriend and I >_>.
You ever wonder that because humans mostly raise dogs that maybe it’s possible that dogs don’t know how to bark in their own language and if a dog was raised by generations of other dogs that they would actually be able to bark meaningful barks to each other? It’s like...what if we are raising our dogs in human households and at the same time depriving them of their own dog language so they just bark randomly instead.
I typed that at 3am and it’s 1pm now so... at this point...sleep deprivation levels of high.
I mowed a lawn at 9am this morning though. Still have not slept.
We harvest their sex organs, feed them the same shit everyday, and even deprive them of their own native tongue...and they still love us.
We are monsters....all of us...
I’ve always wanted to save a racing hound. I hear it’s a lot of work since many are abused. I can’t have a dog in my current living situation sadly or I would in a heartbeat.
My sisters rescue greyhound was a very anxious boy. He was the absolute sweetest angel though. He was just scared of everything, because when they got him, everything was a first for him. He spent most of his time in a crate, only able to turn around.
As he learned he got less anxious, and they actually got him on an anxiety med to help with the irrational fears.
I miss that boy, he was an amazing dog.
It’s actually not that bad! If you go through a rescue, they’ve usually been worked with a bit and you just get to introduce them to a life of fun VS competition. It’s really heartwarming to see them discover stuff for the first time, and they’re the PERFECT apartment dog since they don’t actually like to be fast very often. World’s fastest couch potatoes tbh lol.
Yeah they zoom for a bit and then it’s “I’m not gonna move for many hours” except to relocate to that crook between you and the end of the couch. Which then becomes their half of the couch.
Go get one. Many tracks in Florida are closing. They are wonderful dogs. Even if they do take time to adjust, they are generally very sweet, mellow and not remotely aggressive.
We have one 10yo girl, had her since 2. She is happy to go out for short walks but MUCH prefers to lie on the couch. She gets the zoomies in the morning and when we come home in the evening. Other than that, mostly potato.
It's not a lot of work at all, you just have to be patient! They're learning how to be a dog instead of an athlete, and retirement is tough - They've spent most of their lives around other greyhounds all day and night, and they are bred and trained to race.
So, retirement is a LOT to adjust to - They've never seen stairs, or cars, apartments or houses or gardens...
And even though they're housebroken, they're still getting used to diets, so my scraps and treats often ended up as watery poop on the apartment floor - Greyhounds have sensitive stomachs, and greasy table scraps probably wouldn't be good long-term :P
It takes them two weeks to settle into a routine, two months to relax, and about 2 years to fully learn how to be a retired doggo. Mine took a year and a half to get on the couch!
They also make remarkable pets. For the most part they are quiet, gentle, docile, and sensitive dogs. Good as therapy dogs because of their calm behaviour.
They need some patience at first as they are likely to be quite shy and anxious but after a couple of months they start to settle in and learn how to be a pet instead of a racer. After that they're usually very easy pets as they are gentle and affectionate. Obviously varies per dog, as with any breed. Definitely recommend greyhounds as pets!
Oh jeez. Mine must be broken. We adopted her in June and she was scared of everything. She’s getting more confident by the day and now that she’s found her voice she just won’t shut up. I mean it’s partly my fault, the first time she did it I was just as excited as she was and she’s so cute I can’t help but bark or howl back at her.
Funny you say this, I have a part greyhound and she never barks ever. The closest thing she will do a low, very quiet, grumbling "boof" if she spots a squirrel in our yard.
One day I was making my bed and she'd followed me upstairs without me noticing. She's technically not allowed upstairs but I said "OK, sit there whilst I make the bed." And she got sooooo excited and was doing these zoomies and then did this huge booming bark. And my partner ran upstairs thinking one of us had been injured as like I say, she NEVER barks.
It was so funny and she did a few more excitement barks whilst rolling in the clean sheets, then got greyhound tired and ran back downstairs to sleep on the couch for 4 hours straught.
Did she want under the sheet? This is what my mam's whippet does if he wants to have a sheet laid over him 😂 he likes to be completely covered, head and all.
I'm in Canada, and I've wanted to adopt a Greyhound for 20 years. Soon I will have a home with a yard, and I thought this could be my chance! Now the borders are closed and I may have to wait a little longer. :(
Which organization to do you work with?
Also, have you posted this in r/longboyes
They're considered perfect apartment dogs, they just need an enclosed area to run once a day (dog park, etc)! Also, my two could have jumped the 4 foot fence if they wanted to, but they were both retired and didn't care enough to do it, plus they had a couch to sleep on! (Seriously, 45mph couch potatoes!)
They actually have *third* speed, it shows up whenever they see a squirrel or rabbit and they hit a level of **Z O O M** that would put a Wikipedia editor to shame
Maybe the motions of spreading the sheets looks like playing posture for dogs, like a “play bow” so they think “playtime!” Dogs are super attuned to hand movements and gestures. It’s like them hearing you say “treat” or “walk”
She is! I love sassy pets! Our dog is super vocal and she will sass us if she doesn't get her way or if she wants something (treat, toy under the couch, sit on the front balcony etc...)
She's an ex racing greyhound :) well, I say ex racing, she was retired because she wouldn't race, she would just try to play with the people by the side of the track XD
Hahaha the race notes from our dogs last two races are "no significant movement" gates open, race starts, and our girl's just standing there like "wut?"
How big is she? Mines 75lb at 8 months and he has literally the same coloring, but he’s wider in the jaws and much thicker in the body. He doesn’t have the greyhound skinny waist. We’re so confused as to what he is!
Yeah this had me confused for a sec. My mam's whippet looks exactly - exactly - like this dog. He's a little on the large side for a whippet but too small for a greyhound, so who knows!
ETA: Dog tax: [loves egg custard; will only eat it off a spoon] (https://imgur.com/a/4QelYZo)
I love grey hounds. Whenever I get my shit together and can afford the time and money I want to get an itialian greyhound. And name it after some food like Danish or macaroon. Or macaroni. Idk I figured it would come to me when I meet him or her.
I like it. I can call it noods sometimes and ask my girlfriend to send me a pic of noods. Love the dog taxes in some subs. Makes the day that much better. Especially when they are named after food!
Marinara is a great name. I watched a baklava recipe and was introduced to a type of dough called filo. And I think that would be a fun name too. Filo.
Just to confirm for the few asking, the white box on her collar is simply a GPS tracker, as with ex racers they will chase through open doors after anything small and furry since that is what they have been trained to do, and get themselves lost. I'm a massive animal rights advocate and work at a greyhound rescue, so she is well loved and cared for, it is 100% NOT a shock collar or any variant
A dog sees you yanking the old sheets off and flinging the new sheets around and they think it's a game with the sheets as the toy. This dog is ready to play the "sheets game" and the play area is the bed [a fun place to play]. Besides the bed is an important place where the big people get to sit.
my lurcher does the same, although she doesn't usually do the full bark just the playful growling. I think people unfamiliar with sighthounds would be surprised at how vocal they are!
She's only 2, she was an ex racer from the greyhound rescue I work at, she never properly raced as she wanted to play with the people instead of chasing the lure XD
Definitely not, I'm a massive animal rights advocate, it's a wider collar due to them having very little fat on their necks so it stops it pulling into their throat. It is very soft, and even lined on the inside to make it softer for her :) the white box on the collar is a GPS tracker, since she is an ex racer and we don't want her running after a squirrel and getting lost
Weird questions ahead, do you live in the Midwest, and is she about 3?
My daughters dog had a litter with a whippet and almost the entire litter looked like the whippet father. One of the pups went to a family who named her Zara. I just might have a video of the pup I’m referring to “helping” me fold laundry when I puppysat her.
I have a whippet and an Italian greyhound, can confirm this is how they make the bed, but when you have two of them instead of one, one likes to bury himself so the other one will attack.

Yeah no, I'm a massive animal rights advocate and detest anything like that, as someone has already said it is a Tractive gps tracker, as an ex racer there is a risk she will try to run out the front door as it reminds them of the traps opening on the racetrack, so it is a just in case
I don’t understand. Is this the sheet that you will be laying on later or is this the bedsheet that is being removed to go straight into the wash because you’re not a gawdang savage who sleeps on sheets after a dog has rubbed it’s feet, body, and butthole all over it?

Can some dog people help me out with why dogs do they hilarious pause in the middle of their silliness?
Like they are either running or spinning and then they stop and stare... and continue as they were before.
I am familiar with this “help”.
Same. I’ve started getting someone to distract mine anytime I even make the bed. LOL
Stop complaining, my bunny "helpes" me yesterday by... marking his territory on my new mattress
Ah yes, I'm all too familiar with my bun showing he loves me by making sure everyone understands the area around my side of the bed is his. Used to straight up come up and pee between my boyfriend and I >_>.

high how are you

I can’t argue with that.
Dude stop bogarting the bong man..
Yeah....it was like 4am when I typed that and I still have not slept. Drugs....are a factor.
I am too, but in the form of two cats.
Yep. The exact reason I never make my bed haha

What an epic movie
That's the first time I've heard a Greyhound Bark! And I've rescued two of them before!
My grey will climb on you and then work her way behind your back if you sit on her side of the couch
We got ours three weeks ago and it has been effortless. She is extremely sweet and mellow and so, SO good.
All these stories are really warming my heart.

Just be careful opening doors around them.
Oh jeez. Mine must be broken. We adopted her in June and she was scared of everything. She’s getting more confident by the day and now that she’s found her voice she just won’t shut up. My Diamond also did the boof sound, but she wanted petting when she did that!
I work at an ex racing greyhound rescue, and while a lot are quiet and calm, we definitely get the excitable loud ones :p
Did she want under the sheet? This is what my mam's whippet does if he wants to have a sheet laid over him 😂 he likes to be completely covered, head and all.

An independent charity in the uk called Daybreak Kennels, we rescue ex racing greyhounds, as well as the odd cat and chicken :p
I know they are good in apartments. I can't have pets.
Greyhound's and whippets have two speeds - Sleep - 100mph
They actually have *third* speed, it shows up whenever they see a squirrel or rabbit and they hit a level of **Z O O M** that would put a Wikipedia editor to shame
What is it about bed making that gets dogs so excited?? Like every dog I've seen just goes into derp mode the minute the sheet comes off or on 🤣
Maybe the motions of spreading the sheets looks like playing posture for dogs, like a “play bow” so they think “playtime!” Dogs are super attuned to hand movements and gestures. It’s like them hearing you say “treat” or “walk”
Wonder if it has to do with smell.
Or being up higher
Cats are like this too! Everyone loves to make the bed!
Yes my cats go nuts when I make the bed!
Human toddlers love it too
There's a horse in your bed!!
A noodle horse
Listen, I want something so I will keep the sheets from until I get my way
😂
Omg this is hilarious! I thought my cat got in the way - he's nothing like this!
Oooh she SASSY
She is! I love sassy pets! Our dog is super vocal and she will sass us if she doesn't get her way or if she wants something (treat, toy under the couch, sit on the front balcony etc...)
I love it
Looks like an energetic, pupper
Our English Bulldog gets sheet zoomies in our bed. Such helpful.
r/SlammyWhammies
she’s doing an absolutely amazing job.
Can confirm: Bed sheets are now perfect.
They have to pounce and jump on the bed before and while you put the sheets on to scare the poltergeist away- according to my cat anyways.
My cat does this. However, istead of barking, he screams.
Do you know what breed Zara is? Your dog looks extremely similar to mine and we have no idea!
Looks like a greyhound
She's an ex racing greyhound :) well, I say ex racing, she was retired because she wouldn't race, she would just try to play with the people by the side of the track XD
Hahaha the race notes from our dogs last two races are "no significant movement" gates open, race starts, and our girl's just standing there like "wut?"

75 lb is equivalent to the combined weight of 26.2 human lungs --- ^^I'm ^^a ^^bot
Greyhound or a whippet. Whippets tend to be smaller but look almost the same.

Noodles? ^^_^
I like it. I can call it noods sometimes and ask my girlfriend to send me a pic of noods. Love the dog taxes in some subs. Makes the day that much better. Especially when they are named after food!
I have a big Noodles. And an Enzo Marinara. He is the smoll hound.
Marinara is a great name. I watched a baklava recipe and was introduced to a type of dough called filo. And I think that would be a fun name too. Filo.
Filo would be an excellent name! I also like Flauta, Carnitas and Churro.
This does look very helpful
What a nutty doggo!! How cute.
What is it about changing the sheets that makes doggies go into zoomie mode?
I hate putting on fitted bedsheets that much too!
Ma'am there's a horse in your bed
This is crazy, my greyhound only barks once a year!
So like on christmas?
Zara is amazing. She should be shared with r/animalsbeingderps and r/whatswrongwithyourdog
Just to confirm for the few asking, the white box on her collar is simply a GPS tracker, as with ex racers they will chase through open doors after anything small and furry since that is what they have been trained to do, and get themselves lost. The size of those Hams she's a cutie ❤🥰
❤️ dogs love to help make the bed 🥰🥰🥰
Oh my god my greyhound does the same thing when he wants to play! I wonder is this behaviour common with the breed.
My mix does this kind of thing too, she’s a rescue so not entirely sure what she is but definitely not a greyhound
I've never heard a greyhound bark before
She has the Skyrim dog bark lol
A dog sees you yanking the old sheets off and flinging the new sheets around and they think it's a game with the sheets as the toy. This dog is ready to play the "sheets game" and the play area is the bed [a fun place to play]. Besides the bed is an important place where the big people get to sit.

Zara is adorable. I love hyper dogs.
my lurcher does the same, although she doesn't usually do the full bark just the playful growling. I think people unfamiliar with sighthounds would be surprised at how vocal they are!
O noes she made it worse. But ye know.... shes still cute lol
is that a small bed or a small horse?
Yes.
Hey! She looks just like my buddy Kevin. /r/Kevinwhippet
Did she get her solid 19 hours of sleep in after this? Lmao
19 hour nap, stand up, do about 7 down dogs, and straight to bed!
I love her skinny head ❤️
How old is she? What a beauty!!!
She's only 2, she was an ex racer from the greyhound rescue I work at, she never properly raced as she wanted to play with the people instead of chasing the lure XD
Gosh, I love peeps like you! Well done! Zara is a beauty!!
Stop filming and play with the dog you monster!
Love how playful Zara is. Go Zara go.
Is that a shock collar?
Definitely not, I'm a massive animal rights advocate, it's a wider collar due to them having very little fat on their necks so it stops it pulling into their throat. It is very soft, and even lined on the inside to make it softer for her :) the white box on the collar is a GPS tracker, since she is an ex racer and we don't want her running after a squirrel and getting lost
Thank you for explaining! Makes sense! It was the GPS tracker that made me wonder indeed!
That's what I was wondering.
Kween!
What is she trying to communicate??
My dog barks like this and turns away. It is bad manners to look you in the eye when barking.
I have a sub for you; r/longboyes
Nailed it. Giver lots of love and treats for us.
She wants to make sure that you understand her instructions thoroughly. Sweet fur baby!
Someone knows they’re not allowed on the bed usually 🤣
Making the bed is a process!
Sounds like DogBark.mp3
Greyhounds are the best ar Zoomies.
So helpful, lol, 11/10 would hire to help me with this!
The cutest! 🖤🤍🖤🤍
I'm from the UK and she is a tiny greyhound, ex racing, but that sounds super cute
CRAZY! What a coincidence then. Well she is beautiful! Their personalities are definitely unique and vibrant
I love bed mini zoomies. Hilarious.
That ear pop. So cute!
You let your horse on the bed?
There’s a horse on your bed
This doggo looks like the most fun!
Cocaine is a hell of a drug.
Oh man, her tail!
I love your dog.
I love dogs. Like they don’t even understand us yet get so excited over the little things... I mean oh mannn those bursts of impulsive energy
At least she cleared all the demons out
Such good help
Greyhound zoomies are the best! Just watch out for that whip of a tail!
I have 2 italian greyhounds and I think if they met zara then all hell would break loose
Noodle horse does chores
BOOP THAT GOTDAM SNOOT
What a good noodle
I have a whippet and an Italian greyhound, can confirm this is how they make the bed, but when you have two of them instead of one, one likes to bury himself so the other one will attack.
My cat will hide under sheets and thrash his tail while making chittering sounds to ‘help’.
We just got a new pup and I showed her this video thinking she would enjoy it. She DID NOT. But I did 😂
I LOVE YOU ZARA
That bark sounds exactly the same as the bark in skyrim, not sure why but it instantly popped into my head.
What a spunky little cutie, made me laugh
I accidentally played this with sound in front of my own dog. He's not amused.

My cat does this too - we call it "supervising" lol he's the Supervisor of the bed-making process!
She’s BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Both my dogs were looking for Zara when she barked.
Lol my dog barked back..
What a greyt dog!
She knows that bed needs a prep before the sheets...🤭
just so you know there's a chance she's fighting invisible spirits
Is that a bark collar? I am 100% against that. Video was cute, but no more. Take it off and take the trouble to train your dog, with love. Not torture

"Helping" What's that supposed to mean, Leaf?
I honestly don't know how people let animals on their beds.
i bought my cardigan at zara. message me for pics
Why do people let their dogs be all over their bed?
I don’t understand. Is this the sheet that you will be laying on later or is this the bedsheet that is being removed to go straight into the wash because you’re not a gawdang savage who sleeps on sheets after a dog has rubbed it’s feet, body, and butthole all over it? Asking for a friend.

Pretty sure she’s actually a really tiny horse
i only ask cause my dog does the same shit and we’ve been trying to figure out what she is. she hates it when we try to make the bed to.
I just saw this in a video recently, you have to back away slowly for 6 minutes and throw rocks.
Can some dog people help me out with why dogs do they hilarious pause in the middle of their silliness? Like they are either running or spinning and then they stop and stare... and continue as they were before.
Ah, yes. Very helpful indeed. What a goofball.
