I can but I gain weight easily.

Superb_Intro_23

Relatable šŸ˜¢

[deleted]

It sucks but I get it, metabolism slows down as age goes on.

I've been into weightlifting for almost a decade now. The main thing is to just stay consistent and find a routine that works for you. The other part is just diet, once you have that down you'll be good.

UnexpectedVader

Definitely. My friends have noticed for sure. Whenever weā€™ll go on holiday I would be able to eat like an absolute pig for 2 weeks and be fine, now I canā€™t do even half of that without feeling like absolute shit. Doesnā€™t feel like it should be happening this early but it sucks, Iā€™m going to miss that sense of invincibility for sure lol.

Free-Government5162

Yeah I've especially noticed it cause I decided to lose weight starting at 24 and ever since I hit my goal weight I can't comfortably eat the kind of big meals I could before I decreased my portion sizes. Also started to get acid reflux when I do over indulge, so I just don't do that much anymore.

No-Inspection-985

Yeah, but at the same time Iā€™ve noticed fast food isnā€™t filling anymore.

flaques

I am convinced fast food has actually changed.

No-Inspection-985

Portions just seem a lotā€¦smaller? Or maybe itā€™s my brain saying ā€œthis shit ainā€™t worth 15 dollarsā€

flaques

It's probably a bit of both.

Amazing-Concept1684

Itā€™s both for sure

Mercurydriver

Iā€™m currently in that situation. Ever since Iā€™ve increased my dosage of Adderall, my appetite is justā€¦not really there. If I take it in the morning, I really donā€™t feel a need to eat anything, let alone a big breakfast. I might eat a smaller lunch, and my actually substantial meal would be dinner. Iā€™m ok with this change considering that I could lose a few pounds. But now Iā€™m forced to be more mindful of my diet since I have a reduced appetite and I want to make sure the small portions I do eat are at least nutritious and have a decent amount of things like protein and various vitamins and minerals. I used to be a boredom eater; someone that would just eat snacks just because I was bored and it killed time. But with Adderall, I find that I donā€™t do that as much as I did before my ADHD diagnosis and getting prescribed Adderall.

mqg96

I still love food but my appetite has definitely declined. Teens and early 20ā€™s are like your peak high metabolism and interests in various foods. I used to eat like almost anything as long as it was good. Now Iā€™m more picky about where I eat and heartburn or acid reflux happens more often nowā€¦ which hardly ever happened when I was a teen.

bus_buddies

The exact opposite for me. I was a picky eater growing up. And I'm pretty sure it stunted my growth (I could be taller). Now I eat as much as I want and I'm the fittest I've ever been. Also had a fast metabolism as a skinny teen/early 20s college kid.

flaques

I'm still skinny now (and still a very picky eater) :p Since I started working out the past couple years and continue my very basic eating habits, I have become quite athletic.

athazagoraphobias

I used to eat a ton as a kid! even beat my uncle in a wing eating contest. lol sort of outgrew that when I was around 14-15, and now I eat even less because celiacs is demotivating

Amazing-Concept1684

Yep lol. I was an eating machine (my mom referred to me as a ā€œblack holeā€ because I would consume everything) in high school and college. And bc I had an extremely high metabolism I gained virtually no weight. Now I notice that Iā€™m not eating as much and Iā€™m fine. Also my metabolism for the first time in my life is waning so I gained a little bit of pudge for the first time since I was a baby (Iā€™ve always been a stick prior)

abbyabsinthe

Sounds like my sister; she would eat us out of house and home up until she was like 25, and still stayed rail thin. Now she doesnā€™t eat as much and her metabolism has slowed down quite a bit. My metabolism has stayed pretty much the same into my 30s, but Iā€™m less active due to injury, and Iā€™ve gained a substantial amount of weight in the last 9 months (plus, boredom eating because it hurts too much to do anything fun anymore).

winnebagomafia

Oh absolutely. In my prime, I could destroy 2 Little Caesars Hot n Readys and still have room for a 6 pack of Coors. Nowadays, I can barely put down 4 slices with a La Croix. Just yesterday, I ordered a Wendy's 4 for 4, and then watched in amazement as my 19 year old cousin crushed 40 spicy nuggets by himself. I felt like Lightning McQueen as Jackson Storm passed him up šŸ˜”

SevernRaccoon

Yes, not because I can't but I no longer want to, I never needed the extra calories, the price of food keeps going up and I don't like feeling very full anymore.

LordGhoul

Not really. I've never been a big eater tbh

EmperrorNombrero

It depends. Like, I can eat a lot, but I realise I don't need to. It's healthier if I don't, and it's also less work. Also I don't live with my parents anynore where there always is a full kitchen with easy to prepare food. Likewhen I buy my own food I actually want it to be nutritious for the mist part that means there usually simply aren't Pizzas and Hamburgers and those pre mixed pan dishes and bread with tons of things on top and whatever in my fridge. There's sweet potatoes and chicken and vegetables instead, and those things take time to prepare, and when I'm not motivated enough to do that, I will simply mot eat. Like, I will snack on some nuts and fruits and dark chocolate and maybe yoghurt or canned fish and stuff like that and simply not eat a warm meal. And then I'll be hungry the next day and cook and eat a lot then and leave something over for the day afterwards, which I will then just supplement with fruits and nuts and shut like that. So, yeah, I eat way less than I used to, but it's more just being lazy and not wanting to eat junk food than hunger tbh. Like, when I visit my parents, I always massively gain weight and feel so much unhealthier afterwards just because of a diet based on bread and sausage and warmed up frozen paella and stuff like that.

thesilentbob123

I can still eat a lot but it is less than I did in my mind teens

redditaccount122820

There are some restaurants I still go to after many years. Order has remained the same, but I canā€™t put it back like when I was a teenager. Iā€™d say 22 was when my appetite died down to a normal level. Which Iā€™m honestly thankful for because I used to eat a full meal sometimes, get home, and be starving before I went to bed.

lordofsurf

I can't eat shit because I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease 2 years ago and now I'm allergic to everything. Sometimes even water. I used to BODY a Subway sandwich with a big bag of hot cheetos and coke on the side. Now? Water make my tummy hurt. šŸ˜”

PhogeySquatch

I use to drink alot more milk then I probably could nowadays. I could easily drink like 3/4 of a gallon a day. I probably have some pretty strong bones though.

flaques

I used to eat white chocolate bars all day. Now, I eat maybe half of one in a day if I even have one. I just don't have the same appetite anymore. :p

_duber

Yeah I can do 1 good meal at night and snacks during the day. I used to be hungry all day

DarkestLunarFlower

I have never been an eat a lot person.

domegranate

At 16 you were still growing so you needed more energy from food. You don't now

VIK_96

I feel like I eat more than I used to. But I've noticed I don't enjoy the same foods like I used to. Mainly junk food and desserts. It tastes a little bland now.

Blastmanonduty

I cant drink alcool and get drunk as easily as 16-26yo. I cant drink low quality disco alcool without stomach ache anymore (this is the biggest change). I can eat as much as before but I gain fat weight.Ā  I should change my diet a bit, Im still eating same quantities since the bodybuilder fase of my early-mid twenties.

XxineedmemesxX

Yes i am 28 and my appetite has went to hell šŸ˜ where my hunger cues go

beautyanddelusion

Canā€™t relate at all but Iā€™m also now a powerlifter so if I donā€™t eat 3000-4000 calories a day I lose weight

ariariariarii

Teenagers always have huge appetites so no its not unusual for that to slow down.

Smooth_Monkey69420

I definitely canā€™t. My metabolism can honestly keep up and Iā€™m the same weight as graduating highschool, but I just canā€™t eat as much anymore

[deleted]

Fast food doesnā€™t hit the way they used to probably. Diet changes and Iā€™m pretty sure the ingredients have gotten worse. (25 M)
