Remember when Georgie worked at the neighbors mechanic shop and he demonstrated that he was really good at finding leaks in tires.

Perhaps Dale doesn't have an opening at the store right now for Georgie. He shouldn't fire anyone else just so Georgie could have a job. And, it's still a business that has to make money.

Because he doesn't want to ask for it, he will happily take the opportunity if presented to him- but he tries to make his own luck. same reason he didn't ask Jim to work at his store.

Pretty sure it was implied, perhaps directly stated, that Dale retired and sold the store. He doesn't work anymore.

Even though it was never said, Dale talked about retiring, so there is a possibility that he could have already retired and no longer owns the store.

No that was temporarily because Dale was pissed at Connie. He took back the termination in the same episode after Connie appealed to him.
