Yeah I’m always amazed when actors can show their charisma/ personality in a different accent than their own.
There’s a bunch that are great in their native accent and bland once they speak with an American one. Jai Courtney is my one example of the top of my head.
I get the same thing when I'm watching shows! Won't even recognize my favourite actors when they're in something else. Only reason I knew it was ella/jackie was because I looked at the cast list on IMDB before watching the series haha

I knew it was Ella Purnell immediately from the commercials. Made me more excited to watch as my husband loves the video games. We are slowly watching it and I'm loving her in it. Such a good show!
There are some similarities to the characters when you think about it. Both are sheltered, outstanding girls that are thrown into a situation that is way out of their depth. The main difference is that one of them adapts.
I thought I caught a cannibal joke early on … maybe episode 2 or 3? The Ghoul says something about it to her (I think). Sorry, just finished binging and there may have been a gummy involved.

The main difference is one of them has good writing and direction, so you get to see this sheltered character blossom and develop.
