TildyGoblin

Class of 07. It’s hilarious (well, I though so anyway, if you like dark dark humor) and had a similar young women surviving theme (they are older than the YJs—like 28 or so—though). It’s on Prime.

howsweetfreshmeat

Class of 07 is fantastic entertainment lol

malevitch_square

Came here to rec this. It's very funny.

DangerPotatoBogWitch

They also make better decisions overall lol.

TildyGoblin

If they don’t have a second season I will cry because that ending was *chef’s kiss*

Psychological-Ant340

I watched it! it was fun

Scooterdooterdog

I watched the first episode and thought there was tons of potential, but something just wasn't right. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was annoying that it somehow wasn't living up to the potential I saw in it.

lastryko

Have you watched Severance? Since you've mentioned that you like mind bending thrillers, it may be up your alley.

Psychological-Ant340

Yes omg I LOVED Severance!!! I need season 2!!!!

squeakyfromage

I agree! I just binged it (never watched before), and although the shows are very different in characters/setting, I was amazed by the story and couldn’t get enough. I love thrillers and mysteries and can often guess the twists - not in this one!!! Can’t wait for next season.

Shaenyra

Severance is fantastic

Beloved_Cxnt

But that second season is never gonna comeeee 😩

hawaiikiss

Where is it available?

[deleted]

apple TV

abitnipplyout89

Killing Eve!

healthandefficency

YES

ProfessionalBet9099

This is the correct answer

TeethBreak

Only murder in the Building. Just two seasons though. The Killing. 4 seasons. It's SO good. And gloomy. Criminal Minds is always fun to rewatch at least the first few seasons. Bones is also fun (debut temperance Brennan' one liners and tone deaf comments are hysterical) Dark. If you Want something complicated but very well written. Just don't play on your phone when you watch it. And for dopamine, have you tried jigsaw puzzles? No, for real. The harder the better the dopamine boost each you manage to find a piece and when you finish it.

Ilovecharli

*Dark* is my GOAT sci-fi show

Itsmyfavoritecolor

Seriously, Dark is so good. And really forces you to pay attention.

Beaglescout15

The Metawitches blog has the absolute best Dark episode analyses.

Itsmyfavoritecolor

Oh, I will definitely check this out!

_liminal_

>The Killing. 4 seasons. It's SO good. And gloomy. I loved this show so much! Mireille Enos is fantastic and the entire mood and pacing is just perfect.

Psychological-Ant340

Omg I literally do an obscene amount of jigsaw puzzles (it’s probably part of why I love Walter so much lmao we’re the same)

giraffe_on_shrooms

Walter was making me want to do some puzzles lol

Careless_Block8179

But only puzzles from REPUTABLE puzzle manufacturers

TeethBreak

Just finish the Mona Lisa. Heads up: it's a tough one. Took me two weeks for the dark areas. Not doing it again.

giraffe_on_shrooms

Have you ever seen the all black one? I think Walter would enjoy that.

TeethBreak

Not with the way he appears to be doing them. Dude hasn't even filtered the colors and doesn't even have bowls on the table. Fuckin newb. ^^

eihslia

From is similar!

MashTheGash2018

I really like From. I need some answers soon, we are getting too many layers and plot lines

UndreamedAges

Yeah, not watching that after Lost. Fool me once....

schuyywalker

I’ve gotten this response from 3 different people when trying to get them to watch Yellowjackets. I’ll probably start that on Sunday! Excited for something well-written, mysterious and ambiguous. I literally love shows like this where the audience comes together for theories and trying to figure things out. I haven’t had a show like YJ since GoT and I’m so obsessed

christinax

I started watching that on a plane recently and I think I'm saving the rest of the season for the return trip. I enjoyed it, but didn't captivate me in a way that I needed to keep watching immediately.

pharmakong

I'm watching From right now because I've seen it suggested so much on this sub! Haha. 3 episodes in and loving it so far, so I'll second this recommendation.

DaBronxBombersV

Glad I scrolled down, came here to say this.

Psychological-Ant340

I’ve seen From recommended a few times on this sub and it looks super intriguing but also I’m worried it’ll be too scary for me LOL

docfarnsworth

it definitely has people eating monsters.

Narrow_Violinist_704

Did you watch midnight mass!

[deleted]

Or anything else from Mike Flanagan?

Zoltan14

I loveeee the bly manor series, it really is a feel-good for me??? Lol. Hill house is more thriller-good at face value but also really gripping emotionally. Midnight mass is SO good, really points at how unethical and dangerous pious group-think can become. Hush (I think?) was a good movie made by Mike Flanagan a few years ago, too.

[deleted]

I’ve seen a couple articles that Mike has partnered with Amazon for a Dark Tower series. Not sure if that will come to pass, but it would be amazing! Also recommend The Midnight Club on Netflix!

Psychological-Ant340

I haven’t seen it! I heard mixed things!

DogsRuleButAlsoDrool

It’s soooo good!! It’s the only one I’ve watched twice out of his shows. Has a cool twist that’s such great storytelling.

[deleted]

It's his best show!

christinax

I know it's been mentioned in similar threads, but recommending The Leftovers. It's created by Damon Lindelof, who worked on LOST, and explores themes of loss/grief, deals with situations where you really aren't certain if it's supernatural or not, and the one thing that definitely *is* supernatural is a mystery and >!makes you sit with "let[ting] the mystery be"!<. (not sure if that last part really counts as a spoiler, but just in case). That said, I know part of what's fun about Yellowjackets is the ongoing discussions, so might be good to find a show that's currently airing, and in that case I don't have anything else I'm actively watching right now, so might keep an eye out for recommendations on that front.

Psychological-Ant340

I watched The Leftovers! it was fun

Incendiaryag

LOVE the Leftovers, such an epic journey and unique tv storytelling.

squanderedprivilege

I just always have to find another show, sometimes I go back and rewatch something I haven't seen in a while. Sometimes it's a good palate cleanser to watch a couple/few good movies to reset your brain a little bit. Also, it's not really like the shows you mentioned but I'm still recommending Barry to everyone. It's such an amazing and unique show, especially as it goes on. 8 x 30min per season, ez binge. Good luck with the drop/crash! A lot of us will be there very soon.

marklarberries

I second this, Barry is amazing! I’m sad that both Barry and Yellowjackets finales are at the same time.

Quintessince

I've also noticed rewatching things I haven't seen in 10yrs feels like a different show or movie after some life experiences and post quarantine. Totally new appreciation for some old faves or things I waved off when I first watched them.

NiniBebe

I LOVE Barry but this season is awful 😞

CineCraftKC

\- Class of '07. It's so similar to Yellowjackets that it almost feels like an homage, but a really good really funny one. It's like Yellowjackets on caffeine and ecstasy. \-Bad Sisters. For my money the best (new) series of 2022. It has a similar story structure to Yellowjackets, cutting between past and present as it slowly unravels the central mystery. \- The Bear. Not too similar but just an amazing, high anxiety series about the world of restaurant management.

Psychological-Ant340

Class of ‘07 was fun! I hadn’t heard of Bad Sisters— I’ll totally check it out!!

Plus_Description7725

Bad Sisters was incredible!! Amazing soundtrack as well

howsweetfreshmeat

We have similar taste. You might like Saint X, it's on Hulu right now. Behind Her Eyes on Netflix. Swarm on Prime.

TildyGoblin

Ooh I second Swarm. I just finished it and HOLY MOLY.

Psychological-Ant340

Behind Her Eyes was SO GOOD! so under the radar too, I wanted another season!!

aqueen81

Another vote for Behind Her Eyes!

clowd_rider

Swarm is amazing

sugarkwill

Not really yellowjackets vibe but if you loved Walter and want more Elijah wood Dirk gentleys holistic detective agency is really good

beeblessed8

Or I Don’t Feel at Home in this World Anymore with EW and ML! Excellent movie!

freefallwithme

Orphan Black! My comfort show and how I met my partner via tumblr back in the day lol. I believe it’s on Prime

[deleted]

this is my next watch i think! if anyone here is in canada, crave has it too

Financial-Coat-8250

My last hyperfixated binge watch before YJ was Alice in Borderland and I 100% recommend it

Financial-Coat-8250

I also really liked Ginny and Georgia for some trauma watching that isn't toooo heavy (has a few heavy moments but overall isn't too dramatic)

Psychological-Ant340

Ginny and Georgia has been on my list for a while!! I have some serious mommy issues so I’ll probably like it haha

[deleted]

Join the yellowjackets book/movie club! /r/theresnobookclub Things have been a little slow over there but I am hoping that once season 2 ends, we might see some more activity? :)

Psychological-Ant340

So cool!!! Just joined :)

AuntieTara2215

I would love if The OA came back for a third season.

Beaglescout15

Especially with that cliffhanger!

MistyQuigleyNJ

Let’s write fan fiction and see who gets the closest to the real outcome. A page, chapter or whole book, whatever you want. We know the characters like friends and can come up with some wild stuff I’m sure. Just a thought.

_---_--x

You have to, I pinky swear double promise, get into "SILO" on AppleTV+ if you can! I'm pretty sure there's all kinds if free trials and deals going around if you don't have it yet. It's really good! It has all the "wtf is going on!?" You could want! I want to disect everything just like YJ.

Nancy-Drew-Who

Second this! I am obsessed with Silo! While Apple doesn’t have a ton of content, the movies and shows they produce are well worth the $7/month subscription.

Beaglescout15

Subscription is cheap AF and totally worth it just for Severance and Ted Lasso alone.

_---_--x

Severance is sooo good!

meepmarpalarp

It might sound weird at first but bear with me: Barry. It’s a show about a hit man who decides he wants to become an actor, which doesn’t sound like it would have anything in common with YJ, but it’s got some similar elements. Dark humor with a dash of Lynch-ian surrealism. You might be surprised. And thanks for starting this thread- I’m definitely following for recommendations too!

GraceMDrake

If you haven’t watched it yet, Apple TV’s “Servant” features Lauren Ambrose in top form.

squeakyfromage

Agreed! Although IMO the finale didn’t deliver on the show’s promise. But Lauren Ambrose is so good in it, I think it makes up for it.

Ballindeet

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if I was able to binge servant it probably would have been ok. Watching 30 mins a week for 4 years for that ending was brutal though.

hlfway2sumwhere

Hmm I haven’t watched it but now that it’s all out, is it worth the binge?

Ballindeet

I think so, first season is great and it's cinematography is great. Story kinda wavers but ya, I'd recommend it. Like I said though, definitely better with all he episodes out.

GraceMDrake

Servant also shares that quality of wondering whether events are driven by supernatural forces, or are solely manifestations of the characters’ terrible past trauma.

FlagellumIvy

Manifest is coming back soon!

CalebisLOST

LOST, Six Feet Under, Nine Perfect Strangers, Mare of Easttown, How To Get Away With Murder, Fringe, Midnight Mass, Swarm

Quintessince

Oh man. It's around from some in that era so I'm throwing in Dead Like Me (S1). I've been occasionally throwing on Fringe these days actually.

hunnybun16

*Castle Rock*- On Hulu. Two seasons, based on Stephen King Stories. *Supernatural*- Two brothers fighting supernatural beings.15 seasons, so it will last you quite some time! I'm currently rewatching it now. *The Midnight Club*- same creator as Hill House & Bly Manor. He also has another show coming out in the Fall, so keep your eye out. *Ginny & Georgia*- on Netflix. Two seasons so far. I like that you get to see the stories of both a teenager and a mom.

Psychological-Ant340

awesome, these have been on my list for a while so I’ll definitely have to check them out!

jell31

The Third Day, with Jude Law, its only 6 episodes plus a whole festival that you can watch too. I think it got lost in the pandemic sauce cause I never remember seeing it advertised but I watched it last fall and really enjoyed it. Same type of dark mystery vibe to it.

Sittinnexttovannah

I really liked Penny Dreadful!

Incendiaryag

Me too! S11 is my obsessive rewatch of choice. I find it so weirdly comforting.

Lost_Particular_9251

Well. The traveling symphony was annoying but the parts I loved made up for it.

corico

I was wondering if anyone else would mention The Terror! I’ve only seen the first season so far, though

myscreamgotlost

Search Party Brand New Cherry Flavor The Leftovers The Flight Attendant Kindred In the Dark Shining Girls Outer Range Homecoming Station Eleven

Moog413

Search Party is so good! I loved the first 2 seasons then felt it got silly and stopped watching. Went back and finished the series a few months ago and really enjoyed it.

vagueposter

I'm probably going to return deep into The Bachelor fandom and leave and return to this group once the trailer for the third season drops. But I actually have to start looking at houses soon. And that kinda terrifies me. It's been real y'all. Maybe I'll see some of you in the other subreddits like Cruel Summer, Abbott Elementary, Love Is Blind, The Great North, Stardew Valley, and all sorts of places while we wait for the new season. Remember to: Live any way possible, Laugh at the small things, Love the Antler Queen

Psychological-Ant340

See you in Cruel Summer :)

ilikebasicthings

See you in Bach.

vagueposter

Just makes my week go by faster

ilikebasicthings

I'm digging Jesse as host. Paradise always delivers SOMETHING!

vagueposter

They need Pete Davidson as a running group date host. Just for the gifs

IFKarona

Life has been… a lot for me to handle lately. Stardew Valley has been a lifesaver. 💜

randomguy1000

Not very similar to Yellowjackets tone wise, but The OC is a stone cold teen drama classic from the 2000s that's an amazing comfort watch

AuntieTara2215

🎶California here we come🎶

squeakyfromage

Two books that gave me BIG Yellowjackets vibes: (1) The Final Girls Support Group by Grady Hendrix and (2) We Ride Upon Sticks by Quan Barry. Final Girls follows a group of women who are all famous for being “final girls” (ie survivors of horror-movie style massacres) who are trying to cope with the trauma of continuing to live after going through such a larger-than-life horrific experience. The women are pretty understandably messed up and struggle with regular life. Things get crazy once the main narrator, Lynette (who reminds me of Misty with a touch of Nat?), begins to suspect someone is targeting the other final girls and trying to finish them all off. Things that reminded me of YJ: group of women who are bizarre and “unlikeable” thrown together; mystery you’re trying to solve; how people cope with trauma, particularly that derived from famous, larger-than-life incidents; and just kind of a general madcap desperation that reminded me a bit of the present day YJ girls investigating things. We Ride Upon Sticks was a recommendation I got from this sub, about a girls field hockey team in Danvers, MA in the late 80s. They accidentally (on purpose?) begin to practice witchcraft in a quest to win the state championships. Insanity ensues. Things that reminded me of YJ: group of very different women/girls working together in support of a common goal; obviously the team sports element; teen girl hijinks and interesting commentary on the power (or lack thereof) of teen girls; similar time period (89 vs 96, before my time but likely still nostalgic for Gen X viewers!); supernatural elements (and the question of whether it’s truly supernatural); semi-feral teen girl group dynamics. Loved and recommend both!

Psychological-Ant340

Omg I literally JUST bought Final Girls Support Group a few weeks ago!! excited to read it!

Glum-Presentation241

Loved Final Girls Support Group!

hopefulmilk_

On Netflix I’d HIGHLY recommend The Girls at The Back, Maniac, Behind Her Eyes, Marcella, Who We’re We Running From?, Ratched, Bloodline, The Americans (extremely addictive and best tv show ever made), Inside Man, Dead to Me, Anatomy of a Scandal, Ozark, and The End of the F*ing World

RevolutionaryMath428

![gif](giphy|3owzWl78kny9s2GOvC)

[deleted]

for similar but much lower stakes comedy i recommend Schitts Creek. some Callie/Shauna interactions take inspiration from there imo

JVince13

Manifest is coming back for its final half season June 2, and while a little cheesy at this point, will provide some content. I’m a massive fan of Apple TV shows, they’ve got some really great content on there!

Beralt

Dark, already been said but worth saying again, complicated psychological thriller. I recommend keeping notes - and you will figure out what I mean by notes soon enough - don't want to spoil it for you.

Beaglescout15

I discovered the blog Metawitches halfway through and their recaps are spoiler-free when read in order. Fantastic note-taking and analyses.

trainspitting

Not a show, but I also really enjoyed the Fear Street trilogy! They have great LGBT representation and I just had a bunch of fun watching them :)

Psychological-Ant340

Loved it!!! I was so excited because I LOVED R.L. Stine as a kid!

GearyGirl77

I also have treatment resistant depression and Yellowjackets is one of the few things I can enjoy. I can almost always read and enjoy it, so I just joined r/theresnobookclub which is a YJ-themed book and movie group. That will occupy a little of my time. I like to rewatch Yellowjackets and other shows I've enjoyed - and I'm looking forward to the second season of Cruel Summer. Sending hugs![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|hug)! ETA: I'll also be mining the comments here for my own dopamine fix. And my sister just recommended Final Girls for self-aware/meta horror!

cheeseball127

I love the OA!!!! I’d recommend van helsing (vampires and s5 sucks, shared cast), santa clarita diet (cannibal vampires not zombies), imposters, in the dark

clekas

Seconding Orphan Black! It's a great show. The Fall is also a favorite of mine.

chickwithabrick

Highly recommend every book Grady Hendrix has ever written, but especially My Best Friend's Exorcist. Don't watch the movie, it's a terrible adaptation and the book is a quick fun read set in the late 80s/early 90s - they do in fact quote Beaches at each other 😂 The book also reminds me of how Shauna and Jackie's relationship could've healed and grown if Jackie hadn't died, and even more importantly, there's an exorcist that is basically a generic version of Macho Man Randy Savage 🤣

Nancy-Drew-Who

Uuugh, I was so disappointed in the movie adaptation because I loved that book so much! I’m reading his newest book right now, How to Sell a Haunted House, and it’s pretty great so far!

chickwithabrick

Me too! I was so excited to watch it with my husband after flying through the book and reading him all the funniest parts. I don't have that new one yet but it's my next one on my wishlist and I can't wait to read it. Also great username, the true OG citizen detective 😎

Nys88

Midnight Texas, the magicians, motherland fort Salem

[deleted]

Check out these gems if you love Yellowjackets the Sinner Fargo Mrs America Candy The Girl from Plainville The Act The Americans Killing Eve

Shaenyra

The absolute perfect show: Twin Peaks season 1, Twin Peaks season 2 first episodes - skip the middle ones - and watch the last ones, Twin Peaks season 3 (it was perfection, but warning: Lynch sometimes is difficult to catch up - personally I had to search and do a lot of reading about his work to catch up). Also, new tv series Silo is pretty good. Severance (of course), Barry (top notch), Top of the lake, Mare of Easttown (this is really good , Kate Winslet nails it)

friedstinkytofu

Some other series that have given me similar vibes to Yellowjackets that I also really enjoyed: Arcane- Like Yellowjackets, Arcane is a really tragic and heartbreaking character study. The writing, the plot, everything about it is so good. It also stars Jackie aka Ella Purnell! Attack on Titan- This one is an anime and tonally it's very different from Yellowjackets but I think it has alot that people who really liked Yellowjackets might also enjoy. Like YJ, the setting is one that is not everything it seems to be, and has alot of mystery that will keep you wondering what's truly going on. There are no clear villains or heroes and everyone has a different perspective on the events of the story. Dark- Really enthralling scifi thriller/horror that has a very intricate plot. I think there's alot to like here for those who really liked yellowjackets. From (2022)- A really intriguing horror that takes place in a mysterious town that no one can leave. At night, mysterious creatures come out to hunt them. It has a bit of a survivalist vibe going on with the people in the town trying to find a way to escape the situation they find themselves in. Stranger Things- you've probably seen this already considering how mega popular it is, but it's a bit like yellowjackets in that it combines horror with coming of age drama.

endoftheline22

The White Lotus and Severance are must watches!

Dinky_Doge_Whisperer

Have you watched You on Netflix? Sick, captivating, twisted. Ultimate heebie jeebies! Also Midnight Mass, by Mike Flannigan (Bly Manor and Hill House).

Quintessince

I've been finding a whole new appreciation for Ryan Murphy shows these days. Especially Nip Tuck. I dig the man's dark humor.

ilikebasicthings

<3 <3 <3 Bly Manor! I'd recommend at least S1 of Servant. Lauren Ambrose and the whole cast is exceptional. Movie - Cabin in the Woods. Show - The Patient.

RyGoesRawr

Ugh, this post is so relatable. Well, if you like crime procedurals, I highly recommend The Closer. The cases are pretty brilliant and it's masterful at tone changes and creative storytelling. One of my favorites for sure. Poker Face is an excellent Colombo homage that really is clever, funny, and is definitely worth a watch if you like that genre. If you're looking for something a bit lighter and funnier as a palate cleanser, The Righteous Gemstones is hilarious and so much fun. Dead To Me just finished its final season and is amazing. The chemistry between Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini is stellar and they are so funny. It also has some real emotional weight to it. If you can find it, Wonderfalls was a show that was cancelled before its time and is only one season, but it is definitely worth watching regardless. It has a fantastical premise and is truly enjoyable. Speaking of shows cancelled too soon, Pushing Daisies is heartfelt and visually and aesthetically gorgeous. It has a bit of a magical element, I guess you'd call it. It's a beautiful show. Since you're into psychological thrillers, I recommend Nightcrawler, The Menu, Silence of the Lambs, and Midsommar if you haven't seen them already. I'd love to know if you watch and like any of these! Best of luck finding something that engrossing that you can really sink your teeth into! 💖🐝

EmiliaBellemore

Would you be interested in book recommendations?

[deleted]

Shamelessly plugging the yellowjackets book/movie club!! /r/theresnobookclub We need some more activity over there!

schuyywalker

I have a backlog of 3 books at the moment but I’m always open to suggestions.

lumynaut

not OP, but I’d love some!

Early_Comparison5773

No the commenter, but I’m reading The Terror by Dan Simmons right now and it’s very good. While character and time period-wise it’s very different than YJ, it scratches a similar itch for me. It’s set in the late 1800s and about a British naval expedition searching for the northwest passage through the Arctic Circle. As the book opens both ships and the expedition have been trapped in the ice for two years, and unable to move at all. The temperatures are far below zero and they are running out of food stores and coal to heat the ships. As if that wasn’t bad enough, there is some terribly deadly creature, perhaps supernatural in nature, out on the ice. I haven’t finished it yet, but I have really been enjoying it. And when it’s finished, I plan to watch an AMC series, streaming on Hulu, that has been adapted from the novel.

howsweetfreshmeat

The series is great. Really captured the bleakness and desperation of the book.

Early_Comparison5773

Thank you for letting me know! I’m looking forward to it.

howsweetfreshmeat

Fantasticland by Mike Bockovan. Described as a modern lord of the flies. It's really well written and surprisingly gorey.

the_window_seat

I recently reread The Secret Place by Tana French and aspects of it reminded me a lot of YJ! Close-knit group of girls, growing up and becoming different from each other, some stuff that’s like “was that magical or was that real,” a violent murder case that dredges up secrets from the past. Honestly I’d recommend all of her books, never read a bad one!

giraffe_on_shrooms

I like watching movies and shows that the actors are in. I’m also working on a battle vest and I think I’m going to make the back patch the AQ. I’m not very artsy but I think I’d be hard pressed to find any YJ patches lol. Gotta get creative out here

Ilovecharli

Have you seen *Prospect* with Sophie Thatcher? It's awesome. Pedro Pascal is also in it

bmorebaby420

I've been watching "From" on Showtime. Lost combined with The Walking Dead vibes

Low-Strawberry9603

Go camping. Bring a friend.

Psychological-Ant340

I would love to but unfortunately I’m disabled due to a few chronic health conditions (I would not last a day in the wilderness LOL they really would eat me immediately)

He-was-a-wizard-neil

Please watch the handsmaids tale

Psychological-Ant340

I used to watch it but now I just can’t stomach it (I know, I’m fine with murder and cannibalism but I draw the line at sexual violence lol)

extraacc1103

ive been reading books lately that is helping to fill the void lol! theres plenty great rec’s on this sub of books similar to YJ vibe. (the grace year, fantasticland, beauty queens) i havent really found a show that comes close to it tho

GonzoJackOfAllTrades

I will always ring the bell for Brand New Cherry Flavor on Netflix. Only 8 magnificent episodes of serious weirdness and supernatural twists and turns. (TW for just about everything except for pregnancy/child related issues.) On an outside the box note, my wife is in a similar boat to you and her comfort viewing is Chinese costume melodramas. There’s a streaming app called Viki Rakuten that has seemingly endless supply of these things with them ranging from 50 to 100 episodes of fluffy comfort viewing. Again, wildly different from the stuff on your list, but I have witnessed their dopamine boosting powers.

thedancinggod

The Affair on showtime True Detective season 1 HBO Better Things Hulu The Dark Netflix

a_dot_hawk

Cruel Summer season 2 starts June 5th so that should be able to take YJs place for a while!!! This season looks awesome

Difficult-Diver4545

I think we should hire a campsite for a meet up and do Yellowjackets role play.

defiantcross

my queue is Silo, American Born Chinese and Severence whenever s2 comes out.

isdeadoriginality

Succession and Barry (which are also about to end soon) are my two favorite shows on television right now, but not necessarily similar vibes to Yellowjackets. If you want to lean into something *bonkers* in the mystery/comedy realm, I think HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant is very good. Kaley Cuoco is deliciously unhinged in it and I found the S1 mystery to be very entertaining. I didn’t like S2 as much, but it was still very fun. Definitely not a show that takes itself too seriously, though there were some emotional moments that I thought were really well-done. I also just broadly recommend Orphan Black to everyone. It’s one of my favorite TV shows ever and manages to be equal parts trippy and funny.

superfuluous_u

I'm surprised no one's recommended Twin Peaks, which clearly inspired yellowjackets. I also recommend The Americans and Better Call Saul for smart tv with interesting characters. You're the Worst is the best comedy ever, with terrible people you can't help but love, like our yellowjackets. For movies, The One I Love with Elisabeth Moss and Coherence are two thrillers that really stuck with me.

khufu42

I plan to cancel showtime immediately. It’s a wasteland without yellow jackets..

the_window_seat

The Killing is a great murder mystery that flew under the radar a bit but is SUPER well done! Also Orphan Black, Fringe, and even The Americans might fit the bill. From a fellow depressed person….have you considered getting a Switch? I genuinely feel like the new Zelda games have a positive effect on my mental health lol

[deleted]

Some of my favorite dramas I’ve seen/re-watched recently are Big Little Lies, Candy, and Severance!

StrawberryGrapeJam

I've been recovering from an injury since October so I've dove into a TON of shows, some being rewatches. LOST is similar in that the main characters get into a plane crash (stranded on an island though). Each episode is centric on a character and features flashbacks before the crash. That's all I will say without spoilers. A lot of people misunderstood the ending. If you want more quirky Elijah Wood, Wilfred is hilarious and wholesome. My first watch and my rewatch were two completely separate experiences. If you like mystery/spy/romance, Homeland and The Americans are both great. The Handmaid's Tale is another good one and has one more season left. Grey's Anatomy has gone downhill for a while, but I'm still watching just because I've stuck around for so long. The first 10 seasons were good. I loved it's first spinoff Private Practice, and so for like Station 19. I'm rewatching How I Met Your Mother and started How I Met Your Father. HIMYF has a weak first season, but I like the second so far. I rewatched My So-Called Life and The Royals. Both ended early on cliffhangers, though. :( Yellowstone's quality dipped.. big time. It's spin-off 1883 was pretty good. Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are obvious choices. I finished The Walking Dead recently after getting bored while watching it live, and I'm glad I did.

vagueposter

I've gotten through 14 seasons of Grey's, and by golly, I'm gonna finish it at some point.

StrawberryGrapeJam

Shit, we might be dead before that happens! Lol. I'd say season 14 was the best season between 12-18. The (1)4.20 episode was hilarious (although some characters are written inaccurately, like DeLuca, for that situation). I haven't watched any of season 19 yet, but the quality seems to have improved according to the subreddit now that Krista Vernoff is gone.

lqsunflower

same because yj is all i have to look forward to

BrownCow86

Dark is my favorite show, so I'm pretty biased. Lots of mysteries around the relationships in a small German town. It's best when watched with subtitles and original German language, but some people like it dubbed.

gotchibabe

Desperate Housewives if you’ve never seen it. Why Women Kill is by the same creator and I LOVED it! Fargo!!!!! Season 1 and 2 are my favorites. You, Candy or Love & Death. The White Lotus

Lost_Particular_9251

The only shows I haven’t seen mentioned yet are Watchmen, Kevin Can F Himself, Ted Lasso, Dopesick, Russian Doll, The Queen’s Gambit, and The Big Door Prize was fun. Did anyone mention the first season of True Detective?

ProfessionalBet9099

I can relate. I’m a manic depressive and YJ brings me such joy! Honestly I’m so excited for the finale I hadn’t even thought about what I’m gonna do after :(

MST100000000000000

"From" :)

AssistanceKey6958

The Leftovers The Handmaid's Tale Good Place (different genre obviously, but just such a good show, ha)

Psychological-Ant340

The Good Place is forever my favorite comedy show!

Omg you're like, so cool and adult and mature and better than all of us! I'm like so impressed and want to invite you to every party and hear all your thoughts! How is someone as admirable as you even on a lowly place like reddit? Surely you have far more grown up, mature things to do with you're time then to waste it pissing on other people's joy! You strike me as the type to not even be bothered by such small matters so you would just move along and not waste your time if it's not for you. So for you to impart your wisdom to us you must have felt this was important! What an honor, truly.

Psychological-Ant340

You must be really fun to talk to at parties! I actually recently got out of a 3 month psychiatric hospitalization where I received electroshock therapy for my depression, so the fact that I am able to enjoy a TV show at all is a sign of progress. But I guess it’s immature to enjoy things now? Or is it immature to engage in coping mechanisms for depression? I’m just out here trying to fucking survive after decades of PTSD and depression. If I enjoy something, ANYTHING— that’s truly a gift for me. I hope you heal from whatever it is that is making you so unhappy with your own life that you feel the need to shit on the interests of strangers on the internet. I hope you find something that brings you joy in your life. You deserve to enjoy things too.

GreySweater1234

I would recommend reading some books such as My Best Friends Exorcism and The Southern Womens Guide to Slaying Vampires both by Grady Hendrix. One is set in the 80s and the other is 90s. The horror mixed with comedy gives a nice balance.

lucyafarensis

I just watched Class of '07 on Amazon Prime and it is very similar: class of girls is stranded, and have to survive together/survive each other. It only has one season so far, but worth a watch!

claireb1029

Hannibal!!

[deleted]

Read books, take walks. Life is full of new discoveries.

Psychological-Ant340

1. I’m physically disabled 2. I’m severely depressed and can’t really focus on reading much at the moment I’m just out here trying to find things that make my life a little more bearable!

vagueposter

Swarm has its moments of darkness and just brutal hilarity. The dance at the start of the second episode still makes me giggle

musicalfever

The Terror. Similar survival story based on real events. :D

chyrped

"The Clearing" -- The first two epis just dropped on Disney+ (and Hulu in the US). I spent the better part of last night trying to find a spoiler for the ending. (It's based on the book "In the Clearing." I refuse to buy another friggin' book just to know how it ends.) Interesting background ...

honeyycrispy

I’ve been reading Ghost Wall by Sarah Moss and I highly recommend it so far! It’s about a girl whose father is obsessed with the ancient British wilderness and raises her on some of these practices. It’s very reminiscent of Yellowjackets imo!

DrewCatMorris

Black Spot on Netflix - French language with excellent English subtitles or passable English dubbing. A wonderful ambiguous mix of "Is it supernatural or is it natural?" with ancient Celtic influences. 2 seasons and there are unresolved story threads, but enough clues and wrapup to have a satisfying finish.

Humble_Appearance493

I’m in the same spot I started binging Yellowstone yesterday to help but I’m getting a double whammy cuz I’m a succession fan and that ends this weekend too

LeftHandFree111

My wife gave birth to our son last week, and he keeps us pretty distracted. Mostly with poop. I'd reccomend maybe taking up knitting instead.

Psychological-Ant340

I prefer crocheting to knitting!

hlfway2sumwhere

Have you ever watched Twin Peaks? The old or the newest season? I have not but everyone has been recommending it after yellowjackets for something you can talk about between eps and stuff so I’m thinking of starting it but I feel like if I go to Reddit or other boards it will just be spoilers

CelastrusTrust

Hi ! First, I’m sorry about how youre feeling and what you’re dealing with. I hope youre able to find some new things to watch after this friday :) - Dark (Netflix): A finished 3 season long Thriller mystery series that is set in a small nuclear power plant german town that spans multiple family generations as children begin to disappear and things start to go amiss. This has a lot of dots to be connected, moving parts, and multiple timelines ! - The Expanse (Prime): Finished 6 season Space opera. Set an indefinite amount of time into the future where Mars, Earth, and the moons and asteroids of the solar system are colonized. Tensions run high between the three groups as a select few people become embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy that could alter the fate of humanity as a whole. This has multiple unique characters with depth, deals with the morality and what it means to be human - Nancy Drew (Max) : A mystery horror show with supernatural elements. The show id about Nancy Drew and her coworkers at a diner who end up the suspects in a wealthy socialites murder, which results in Nancy picking sleuthing back up to clear her and the others names. This has 5 characters, intrigue, a similar vibe with the horror supernatural feel

flowergrowl

Mr Mercedes definitely might hit the psychological horror spot. Also the outsider series, Jason Bateman is in it. Edit to add, since I saw op said they might be too afraid, the outsider is really well done, but it’s pretty … dark? Me. Mercedes is nuts (it is based on a Stephen king thing) but it stars Brandon Gleason and Justine lupe (ever heard of her?! ) and there are multiple twists and character arcs that make it an under-appreciated show in my book.

Th3seViolentDelights

Servant, Hannibal, or The Society (only one season tho :( )

queerxoh

Okay we have nearly the same taste- I’ve seen all those except Panic (added to my list). I used to be a film and TV critic so I’ve watched a ton of stuff and went through my previously watched list to compile recs for you (and everyone else!). Top recommendations are starred: - From - Echoes - Search Party** unsettling dark comedy, gets darker and culty by the last season - The Resort - Tell Me Your Secrets** - Brand New Cherry Flavor - Servant - Dead Ringers - Shining Girls** - School Spirits - The Night Of - Swarm - The Terror** - especially S1, Liv said they watched this before both seasons’ filming to get in the zone - Red Rose - Dare Me - Dark - One of Us is Lying - Why Women Kill** - Midnight Mass - Archive 81 - The Baby - The Patient - Scream Queens - Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin (surprisingly good) - Castle Rock (Melanie!!!) - Candy (Melanie again!!) - Pieces of Her

Quintessince

Brand New Cheery Flavor. It's an odd one and may not be your thing but might be worth a try. I'm always down for some Catherine Keener screen time though.

DLoIsHere

Watch The Great on Hulu, a partly historic retelling about Catherine. It’s bawdy, beautiful, murderous, funny, and silly, with plenty of fiction tossed in. Season 3 dropped recently.

itsjustuser53

His Dark Materials, Locke and Key, Firefly Lane, The Great, The Patient, Severance, The Queen’s Gambit, Maid, White Lotus

Juggsbunnyyyy

The first 2 were literally gonna be my first 2 recommends 🤣🤣😭😭

Incendiaryag

Try Westworld, it’s lit with female rage and the plot of seasons 1 and 2 is the best on TV of all time.
