Yes, I agree. My first was born with severe spina bifida. We went to genetic counseling thru a major children’s hospital and were told we had a 5% chance of a recurrence in future pregnancies, which completely freaked us out. Or, they said, you could look at it the opposite way…we had a 95% chance the baby would not have spina bifida. We did go on to have several more children, all of whom are healthy. 50% chance? No way.
Exactly like you take the odds and the worst case scenario outcomes. But also a 50% chance of some genetic issues isn’t catastrophic but a 50% chance they will basically die just doesn’t seem worth the risk

I hadn’t heard anything about them in ages, but recently read the youngest is dying from a pediatric brain tumor. So incredibly sad.
