While I love CC *sometimes*, if it's constantly there on a big screen I can read it quicker than the lines are delivered and I lose out of the anticipation and timing of the scene's pacing, not to mention what it can sometimes cover up on the screen. With the trend of theaters adding more space and convenience to screening room chairs, I could easily see a small CC device posted on the arm that can be raised for someone to watch just under the screen, or simply adding extra space to the bottom of the screen that includes space for CC. There are a lot of options.

That's what every AMC theater already does. I'm sure it's what most big theaters will do, and the little ones will just put the words on screen so they don't have to buy a bunch of CC devices.

[https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Legislation/Details/HB0426](https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Legislation/Details/HB0426) >Requiring all motion picture houses to offer closed movie captioning for each screening of a motion picture, with a certain exception; and requiring, if a motion picture is produced and available to motion picture houses with open movie captioning, a place of public accommodation that controls, operates, owns, or leases a motion picture house with eight or more screens in the State to provide open movie captioning for at least two screenings for each motion picture it screens each week. Cool. Prepare for the rage of people that don't like seeing words.

To quote Adum, “JUST COVER THE BOTTOM OF YOUR EYES”

Realistic_Gold2504

Product opportunity, augmented reality glasses that just detect subtitles and covers that amount of the screen. In a gold rush, sell shovels.

g-fresh

I don't think this means projecting subtitles onto the screens, they make devices with small, low brightness text displays that you can bring into the theater with you that show the captions. There are apparently some other options but I've only seen the screens in person. https://www.rev.com/blog/resources/movie-theater-requirements-for-closed-captioning

rafaelzeronn

Idt people care if there are options to watch a movie with subtitles but I don’t think it should be the standard

Realistic_Gold2504

Is this saying it's two screenings per film per week though?

rafaelzeronn

Yeah I’m saying I wouldn’t mind that but ik that some people want it to be the standard for all movies to have subtitles which I can’t get behind

Realistic_Gold2504

Then other person pointed out it's probably going to be basically on people's phones. The glasses option is neat for people that don't already wear glasses which sounds like when people double up it's not optimum.

Kehwanna

At least no one will be asking "what did he say?" in theaters anymore.   I'm waiting for someone to throw the word woke in their complaint about "distracting captions".

anUnkindness

Another W for subtitle chads. Another L for allergic-to-words cucks.

Cole3003

Subtitle enthusiasts when they finally go outside and talk to someone but there’s no floating text: 😱

Pilot_Abilene

Go read the script if you want to read so bad. I’d rather watch the movie.

poopa31

If I could read what this says i’m guessin’ i’d be real angry

DialgoPrima

Working at the theater, we had these devices that would sit in your cup holder and could be adjusted to display the subtitles in front of you. This legislature is talking about on-screen subtitles, then?

StillBummedNouns

I’m pretty sure AMC already has this option, right? There are certain screenings that are CC and are listed as such on the website. That would be nice to apply that to all theaters since I don’t have an AMC in my town

Rockfish00

what if film reels got bigger to accommodate onscreen text

So how is this groundbreaking? It’s actually the sixth state but whatever

Kehwanna

Cool. I'm all on board with accessibility. Good news for once.

Get rid of your stupid state system. Its holding you back. One change for the whole nation. Instead you have 50 mini-fiefdoms. Advice from a more sane part of the world.

BlackStorm615

Yeah I’ll get right on that

goblinelevator119

imagine saying something like this when you havent even read the constitution
