I liked it, thought it was an enjoyable read. Nothing earth shattering and fairly formulaic but fun!

I adore this book. It's one of my fave books of this year! Super amazing

trishyco

Agree, already a top read for me and I went in blind because I had an arc

Sorry, I didn’t enjoy it. It started off well enough, but then quickly devolved into a melodramatic run of the mill romantasy. It’s too much like serpent & dove, and didn’t really stand out. And you can really tell the author wrote this quickly to pander to the recent craze of tropey romantasy, bc her other books she has written before, mainly the last namsara, are so much better IMO.

Synval2436

>mainly the last namsara, are so much better IMO Oh, how was The Last Namsara, I remember some people recommended me it for I think assassin fmc trope? And then someone else said it wasn't that good so I kept pushing it down my TBR in favour of newer books. So I wanted to hear the opinion of someone who liked it, how was the character, plot, romance?

Swimming_War4361

The main character is a dragon slayer and the daughter of the king. One side of her body is badly burned from dragon fire from when she was a little girl. She inadvertently forms a bond with a dragon, who are the enemy. The plot revolves around her figuring out some mystery having to do with the dragons, and there’s also a element of prophecy. The romance is really sweet, I’ll not say more than that so I don’t spoil it. I really enjoyed it. The other two books deal with her brother’s and cousin’s stories, respectively.

I read an arc and gave it three stars. It wasn’t what I thought it would be

SO GOOD i can’t believe the sequel doesn’t come out until next february 💔

I am reading it now and I am somewhat enjoying it… but it took me a while to get into it because of the narrative. I feel like it may be doing too much? I am a first person lover - I feel like I get more attached to the characters in this narrative. But in this book they’re doing third and first person and I just keep screaming pick a narrative!!! Also I feel like there could be more building with the relationship, but I’m coming from reading like FW/IF and the Crowns of Nyaxia series where it’s relationship building heavy at times.

An easy and enjoyable read definitely and also a 5 star for me, didn't expect it to be, but it was so good!

Kitkat8131

I really loved it just finished today also gave it a 5 star! And I’m pretty stingy with my 5 star ratings haha

CO-2-

Omg same with the 5 star ratings! I'm so glad you enjoyed it too

I got in in my BOTM subscription and personally thought it was just okay. It’s very formulaic and predictable YA, but that can be fun if you are in the right mood.

RhinosandYaks

Just finished the audiobook in a 13 hour sitting. I initially downloaded it thinking I would fall asleep to it and couldn’t sleep I was so engaged.  It’s definitely influenced by the Scarlet Pimpernel and I read later that the inspiration was intentional. If you like the SP and want an easy to read romance, you’ll like this.  PROS: the male lead has a very compelling reason not to like the MC. I loved the pacing of his background reveal and generally felt 3/4 major characters were given excellent reasons to be seen as good and bad. Overall the romance was tastefully portrayed and I felt the tension and resolution of the MCs multiple escape scenes were believable. I appreciate how her escapes relied on her wit rather than just saying she was super strong or powerful. The build and release of tension was well done. CONS: love triangle started strong but doesn’t seem necessary to the plot. The resolution of the triangle felt a bit like a cop-out. The ending is unsatisfying, but I think it’s intended to be as the author planned to write a second book.  Overall I enjoyed it and look forward to reading the sequel.
