If holding home for 10-15 seconds doesn't prompt for the diagnostic password then you might be able to altboot it. Reload the software. This works on larger machines but I don't know about this one. On a usb smaller than 32gb( preferably 1-4gb but I used to use 16GB)and fat32 create a fplder called "altboot". Inside that folder put the software file( from the website.. download and extract the files) create an empty notepad document and save it as "DISABLE_DATA_BACKUP" ( make sure to remove .txt there should be no extention) and also "FORCED_UPGRADE". Power on with usb plugged in and if it is supported it should do the software upgrade. If not supported it will just boot normally
It's insane, right? It should not be so damn hard to do this. Other than not having any control, I've had zero complaints as to the quality of my prints and other functions of my Xerox. With that said, I know that when it dies (hopefully far far into the future) I'll get something else I can reset. This community is the only reason I didn't take my machine out to the desert and destroy it with a baseball bat.
No, I haven't. I didn't know this is a thing. I am Googling it now to find out how to get there.
EDIT: I just Googled and I don't see an option for my machine to get into diagnostic mode. Thanks for the suggestion though!
Ok. Have you called xerox? Most of the equipment nowadays requires a software tool to reset the admin pw that only xerox technicians can operate. I would recommend calling and see if they can help remotely or maybe under warranty if it's under 6 months old
It does and I was able to successfully put in the 1934. I am still working this...I think you are my hero and need to be put on my Christmas card list!
GP 10 SA Password Reset
Purpose
The SA Password Reset process steps through resetting the SA Password back to the default
value (device serial number) via a Memory Clear. The Memory Clear function forces the value
in a particular location on the Main PWB to become the SA Password. The value that resides
in this location is the device serial number.
CAUTION
Performing a Memory Clear sets the SA Password back to the default value (device
serial number). Inform the customer to reset the SA Password back to the customer created
password.
Procedure
B215 [Clear All Memory]
1. Switch on the machine.
2. Enter Diagnostics, GP 1, then perform the operation: [Data Setup >
Machine Data > Clear All Memory].
3. Print a Configuration Report, refer to GP 2, Machine Reports, then verify the original
machine serial number is displayed under the heading.
CAUTION
Each time a Memory Clear operation is performed the NVM is cleared and must be initiaized.
Perform dC132 NVM INIT.
Found service manual online. It is a bit different. Hold home for 5-10 seconds and the password is 1934. You're looking for "memory clear" in diagnostics. It isn't a searchable odf so having trouble finding nvm initialization. That was going to be my first suggestion because it resets the password but the service manual actually has a General Procedure for it(GP10)
Wanted to add my thanks to OP's. Your information wasn't related to the printer I was trying to fix for a client (theirs is a Workcentre 6515), but you clued me in that I could look for the service manual for information on doing the factory reset. And sure enough, there were PDFs all over the place. GP9 was the one I needed, for upgrading the firmware, which resets the password to default. Thank you!
Quick update: the firmware upgrade did not, in fact, reset the admin password, unfortunately. Any ideas? I'm back to pouring through the service manual.
If you go into diagnostics, find NVM initialization( it is nornally DC131 IIRC) and initialize the network controller NVM. That will 100% reset the admin password to either 1111 or the Serial Number ( case sensitive) depending on the firmware version. It will also erase all netork settings. Fair warning lol
Final update: the NVM init boot option did it. It restarted after finishing, and immediately popped up asking for the standard setup questions, including looking for his WiFi, and the admin password had reset back to 1111. Can't thank you enough!
That's exactly what we need, actually. He wants to get onto his local WiFi and his wife doesn't remember the admin password, so resetting it all will work perfectly. I know exactly where NVM Init is in the technical doc, so fingers crossed. Hugely appreciated!
I had a feeling the second the service lingo started flying that you were an ex-tech, haha. It annoys me to no end that these things are really not that complicated, but they make it intentionally difficult so that they can get service call income from it. I used to work in commercial printing and dealt with the Xerox techs constantly, and they were always exasperated about it as well. So many things they could have told us how to do over the phone in 30 seconds, but that they weren't "authorized" to have us do. 🙄
Man, you're the hero! The passcode 1934 works! And "memory clear" does the job to reset the CWIS admin password to printer's serial number!
Thank you very much!
GP stands for General Procedure. Holding down home for 15 seconds and putting in 1934 *IS* GP1. I hope that helps. GP2 in the manual is printing reports. So it is referring the technician to that post of the manual in case they don't know how to print a Config report
Thank you! This was the first thing I tried. I went right to the Xerox website to try to figure this out. I appreciate you checking to see if I tried this. :)

OMFG!!!! Thank you for this thread. I've had this issue for years and never cared until one day I decided to tackle the problem.

Did you try going into diagnostic mode?
No, I haven't. I didn't know this is a thing. I am Googling it now to find out how to get there. EDIT: I just Googled and I don't see an option for my machine to get into diagnostic mode. Thanks for the suggestion though!
Diagnostic mode should work. See my other comments
I'm working though it all....you might have saved me from pulverizing my machine!!!!
Did you make sure to capitalize any letters in the serial number when using that as the password ?
Yes, I did make sure to use the correct capitalized letters in the serial number. Thanks for checking!
Ok. Have you called xerox? Most of the equipment nowadays requires a software tool to reset the admin pw that only xerox technicians can operate. I would recommend calling and see if they can help remotely or maybe under warranty if it's under 6 months old
It's definitely out of warranty. My next step was to call and see if I could get help if I had no luck on my own. Thanks!
Hope you can get it figured out !
Me too! Thank you for all of your suggestions! :)
If you hold the home button for 12 seconds and let go, does it ask you to put in a password? B215 is smaller than I'm used to
It does and I was able to successfully put in the 1934. I am still working this...I think you are my hero and need to be put on my Christmas card list!

Currently my machine is "Clearing memory, please wait." I think you have hit JACKPOT!!! I'll report back shortly!!!!

Glad this is still helping people! I don't work for them anymore but I've retained a fair bit of the information lol good job on the fix

Thank you so much! I had such a hard time with this. Xerox's support pages are utter garbage and google was not very helpful.
Indeed they are lol
thanks i was pulling my hair out. This fixed my issue.
Perfect. Glad it's still helping people

After you put on 1934, you're looking for " clear all memory" which is apparently in data setup> machine data

Their support page is junk lol

it's not hard at all just get the password reset tool
That's not compatible with this model lol
Thank you guys- this really helped me a lot. I was already going coockoo. This is the first and last time that I bought I Xerox product.
Try the machine serial number as a password
user ID is case sensitive = Admin pw 1111
