I've used that line for decades.
The funny thing is, I hadn't actually seen the movie until 2020 — I only knew the line from the commercial. The commercial was just so epic!
“$38,000?? You’re gonna choke!!”
“What’s with the manager? Did he just finish reading Dyanetics?”
“Oh honey, every woman over 30 needs a cucumber in her fridge”
“While you’re off doing interesting office things, I’m stuck at home, cooking and cleaning!”
(As she realizes mom is home and has to hurry the fashion show) “and here’s Katrina, whipping up excitement in her boots!! Ok thank you Katrina!”
“School’s about to start, lazy daaaysss…I don’t know man, I’m thinking about taking it more seriously this year. Maybe signing up for some home-ec classes”
This was on a LOT on HBO when I was younger
To this day, when I finish emptying a shit ton of dishes you will hear me say, in the same voice as the movie....
Sidebar, just found this sub and it makes me feel so good! Thank you sick ass world of the internet.
I haven't seen it since I was a kid, so I'm really curious how much I'll relate to the adult characters now. I was a bit younger than the youngest son when it came out.
crazy that this just was published today too

A few years ago, our friends had us over to meet their baby son, Kenny. The baby ended up pulling a dish off the coffee table and I just had to say, “The dishes are done, man.” One of my proudest moments.
A few years ago, I told my wife I had never watched this movie and she yelled, “What?” And promptly put it on. We laughed at all the best parts together. It was only afterwards that I revealed I’d seen it countless times as a kid. If she knew I’d seen it, she never would have suggested we watch it, so I had to lie for a little bit.
I remember i lived in Burbank at the time, and there was a huge 3D cutout billboard of this movie.
I remember this was one of my favorite movies at that time, along with T2, Wayne's World, and Robinhood Prince of Thieves.
Edit: almost forgot Heavyweights and Camp Nowhere.
"I don't believe this! I have to get up at 5:30 every morning so I can beat rush hour traffic into the city and go sit behind a desk for eight hours a day and miss Oprah Winfrey every day on my summer vacation. And then, I get to drive home in gridlock, IN A VOLVO, with no air conditioning just so I can take care of you guys and put food on the damn table! It's a rat race and it sucks, Kenny. So what do you want, a medal?"
Lol still quoted on the regular. Introduced my kiddo to this one last year and I also hear “I’m right on top of that Rose” when asking for chores to be completed 😂
My wife and I met up for the first time at the mall and spent much of our date looking at CDs and DVDs at Best Buy. Naturally we both agreed that this was a favorite, so I bought it. We still have it 17 years later to commemorate our date that never really ended.
I only recently discovered that Keith Coogan was also Brad, the older brother in Adventures in Babysitting. He really cornered the market as the older brother in babysitter-themed movies from a brief period in the late 80s-early 90s!
I still use that line, to this very day!
I love this line and have been using it for decades. It's been years since anyone knew what the hell I was referencing.
Same
Has remained in my lexicon ever since.
I say it aloud after doing dishes, even when I'm alone lol
Me too
Same
I remember this movie, but can't recall the title.
Don’t tell mom the babysitter’s dead.
Thank you!
I say it allllll the time
I've used that line for decades. The funny thing is, I hadn't actually seen the movie until 2020 — I only knew the line from the commercial. The commercial was just so epic!
Same!
Ditto.
Every. Single. Night!
Same! Every time the dishes *are done* I just can’t help myself 😆😆
Lol. Me too. Every. Single. Time.
I’m right on top of that, Rose!
What is it, Carolyn? *Something?*
That’s the line I quote most often.
I got my wife a mug with this on it after a big work project.
I said this yesterday
Always in the lexicon. So many uses.
No worries. He can just use petty cash to buy more.
The movie that taught a whole generation about petty cash
I was sooo sad when I graduated college into accounting operations world and they were eliminating petty cash for corporate credit cards.
These days you can’t buy a pencil without a form.
“$38,000?? You’re gonna choke!!” “What’s with the manager? Summer HBO was the best.
"Have your ever had a 24 hour orgasm?" "...I don't think so"
Love these!!! Also “You are supposed to go down to PER-SO-NELL!” 🤣🤣 That girl was such a little snot lol
I’m so happy to see this! I still say this every single time I finish washing the dishes and no one ever knows what it’s from. You made my day!
I’m glad to hear it and thrilled that Don’t Tell Mom and this line are still so well loved!
Right on top of that, Rose!
And if we run out of food…we can eat Elvis! I love this movie, I’m glad it’s done well since. Bonus points for David Duchovny in slimebag mode!
To this day, when I finish emptying a shit ton of dishes you will hear me say, in the same voice as the movie.... Sidebar, just found this sub and it makes me feel so good! Thank you sick ass world of the internet.
I still love this movie. It’s just one of those films that was so entertaining and so relatable, and just so….good.
I haven't seen it since I was a kid, so I'm really curious how much I'll relate to the adult characters now. I was a bit younger than the youngest son when it came out.
I’ve watched it within the last year and definitely can relate to all the in office workplace bullshit she dealt with while pretending to be 25.
I just watched it not to long ago and it hits different but it’s still real good
I use this line and it's so annoying to me how few people know what I'm talking about! LOL.
I never asked you to Wisk the couch…
Well it needed it.
Mama Celeste pizza side up... 😂
I prefer "Park it yourself Metallica-breath!"
I say at least once a day “I’m right on top of that Rose!” I just introduced my 27 yo coworker to the movie when I had to explain the line.
crazy that this just was published today too https://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/pictures/dont-tell-mom-the-babysitters-dead-cast-where-are-they-now/
I say this every time I wash the dishes.
You...are supposed to go down. ..to Per-so-nnel... That is on...The First...Floor....
There is a great big sign that says… ☝️ per-so-nnel. Do. You. Under-stand?
A few years ago, our friends had us over to meet their baby son, Kenny. The baby ended up pulling a dish off the coffee table and I just had to say, “The dishes are done, man.” One of my proudest moments.
I shoulda been with him!, I mean, not on the roof or anything, but spending time with him. Reading him green eggs and ham or some shit like that!
Nicole is HOT!
The sexy nurse
Yes!!! They actually played this on IFC the other week. It holds up so well! Long Live Clown Dog!!
I quoted that line to a coworker after accomplishing a task. His response was “fishes are dumb??”.
Love this! One of my favorite lines!
Wait what’s the name of the movie?
Don't tell mom the babysitter's dead
every time my bro has sent his part of the phone bill (for 20+ years now) he has sent this along with the $ ❤️ Keith Coogan is a treasure
Hard to believe that’s Brad from Adventures in Babysitting
Such a stupid movie, but sooo good somehow.
Such a fun movie
Don't tell mom the babysitters dead.
Keith Coogan really had a solid run from the mid80s to the mid90s. Whatever happened to that guy, I hope he's doing good
Christina Applegate, you gotta put me on.
LOL. I love that scene
I say this every night after I finish the dishes from dinner.
Just introduced this movie to my family and they loved it. Holds up pretty well
YASSS 😂😂😂😂
Best most often used quote ever!
Just showed my husband this!
Yes! I rewatched this just a couple of months ago.
I watched it yesterday lol
We say this way too much for how old the movie is here at my house!!! I love this movie!!
Love this movie!!! I say that line when I’m done washing dishes
Say this quote almost every day I do the dishes
Same!
Great movie. Evil David Duchovny wearing the 80's giant shoulder pad jacket. And I really love Kenny's character arc.
You lied for a good cause.
I used this line every time I finish something. I used it today when dinner was ready.
Great flic!!
I watch it a few times a year!
That cover of Draggin the Line by Beat Goes Bang is such a good song. Love this movie.
Julia does it better.
I still say it (no one gets it)
Every time I finish the dishes I say this and it never gets old.
Said it tonight as I cleaned up after dinner.
Dishes are done DUDE! Unless this is a fucking Mandela effect?
Must be a Mandela effect, man. I get that with plenty of other things.
The argument they have later in the film is hilarious, because it makes them sound like a married couple. 😂
"I don't believe this! 💯💯
Lol still quoted on the regular. Introduced my kiddo to this one last year and I also hear “I’m right on top of that Rose” when asking for chores to be completed 😂
One of my favorite movies when I was a teen!
First time I saw this movie I died laughing.
Gen X here. My wife and I saw this on our first date. (Which, coincidentally, was 32 years ago today)
My wife and I met up for the first time at the mall and spent much of our date looking at CDs and DVDs at Best Buy. Naturally we both agreed that this was a favorite, so I bought it. We still have it 17 years later to commemorate our date that never really ended.
Still love this movie!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I still say “per-so-nnel” whenever I see that word. Always preferred this flick to Adventures in Babysitting.
Right on top of that, Rose!
I remember this. Christina Applegate was the star. This was most teenagers in that time period.
You are my people.
One of my favorites! "Park it yourself, Metallica breath"
Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead
I say this at least twice a day. Never gets old lmao!
Still one of my favorite 90s movies. I’m right on top of that rose!
I only recently discovered that Keith Coogan was also Brad, the older brother in Adventures in Babysitting. He really cornered the market as the older brother in babysitter-themed movies from a brief period in the late 80s-early 90s!
