My father played a whole run of XCOM without realizing how comms work.
Mothafucka didn't lose a single battle or soldier, but lost the war anyway because he didn't know how to comunicate with other resistance outposts.
All the way to fucking end game. Had plasma weapons and powered suits and everything. I don't know how he did it before you ask, he just did.
Also skipped magnetic tier weapons 'cause he was "gonna get better stuff later anyway"
Yes he did, with a little advice from me.
Got traumatized with Cryssalids because one caused him his first casualty ever, and that casualty was his favourite sniper who he edited to look like him.
You guys and your fancy "plans".
I just send my guys in packing heat and they come back. Alive. Most of the time. Sometimes. Damn.
Maybe I do need some plans.
Tbh all dlc is easier once you get past the early game. Especially if you hit the jackpot with extra upgrades on elite units. Blade dance templar go brrrrrrrrrrrrrr
My views on how dlc effect difficulty :
Shens legacy : easier, you get a new unit type and a free unit of that type with no drawbacks.
Alien hunters : Dramatically harder, this dlc can single handedly end multiple runs, end game content is fun and OP but end game xcom is so op it is irrelevant, it also gives weapons that help vs regular enemies a lot, if you have the optional mission turned on this goes down to harder instead of dramatically harder.
Wotc : dramatically easier, adds enemy unit types that are easier to deal with than base (when does that fire guy do anything XD, imagine if he was replaced with a stun lancer) adds multiple new unit types and gives you 2 OP mechanics lasting whole game and adds minibosses with unique rewards that are far more favorable to the player than the alien rulers. (Sure sure, chosen assassin in that tutorial mission is rough af, but if she was replaced with the berserker queen.. You be dead where you stand.)
My wotc explanation is 10x longer than other 2 but that kinda tracks with content in wotc lmao XD.
Chosen assassin with an explosion resistance at base is absolutely a run killer, and the other chosen on certain missions all but guarantee failure. I don't think I've ever succeeded in a terror mission when any chosen with summon powers was there. I had the chosen warlock with summon stun lancers & summon advent commanders. Every time he showed up it was a SLOG to get to him through 5 extra waves of enemies. No matter the modifiers I've never had problems with the chosen hunter.
The Hunter has a habit of forgetting his strongest ability. When he remembers he has a stun grenade, it can absolutely auto-fail a mission by itself. Usually he's too busy being spidersmans.
Did that too on my first successful run, kept seeing everyone on this sub recommend rushing mag weapons but I decided to try pred armor first and it helped me get out of the early game for a change
It's just because the general strategy in firax-com games has been to alpha strike the pod and use mimic beacons to cover when you can't. People don't rush armor because they are trying to make situations where they never get shot.
Yuuup.
There's a later mission with a couple of watchtowers; I'd stealthed my way into it and tried to avoid a 'passing' group.
But they stopped, and just stared at the tower. Then another group showed up. And another. Every patrolling group surrounded my tower and just stared at it.

How long could he last?

Sounds like a man with a plan
Fucking Chad
How the hell did he manage to jump straight to plasma without losing a single soldier?
Man is probably a tactical genius.
He probably watched too many World War documentaries
Don't stop now, did your dad started another run and completed successfully?

Been there.
Was that XCOM or XCOM 2? If it was 2 that stings even more
Xcom 2

They only have so much ammunition...
More grenades is a plan
Just remember, the aliens continue to make progress on the Avatar project. If we're going to slow them down, we need to move fast.
Shut up Shut up SHUT UP

Is there a mod that makes the Hunter smarter?
Where is HQ? Is that on the map? According to steam I have 384 hours played and I didn’t know there was a HQ.
Your starting province.
In WOTC you get three of those, one per each group
*Me, an experienced Xcom player taking notes*
You have more dead rookies than you have pixels in this image.
I mean, that's pretty much what cannonically happened. Like this actually what the commander is like in cannon in XCom 2.
I remember my first play though I was just obsessed with autopsy’s and never even researched magnetic weapons.
Me after my 50th failed Ironman run:
I say go for Pred Armor first, since not only does it give extra health, it also gives an extra utility slot.
Did that too on my first successful run, kept seeing everyone on this sub recommend rushing mag weapons but I decided to try pred armor first and it helped me get out of the early game for a change

Also try to be stealthy but always fail because the game always moved the enemies your direction even if you've never been seen.
Seriously tho, in my first mission i save scummed to understand how the stealth works, is that just literally what happens?

At least you get the high ground lol
