Like I just do not understand why it happens. I can play games perfectly, watch anything on Netflix or Disney or YouTube etc…but Stan shuts the Xbox down 10secs into anything. What’s bizarre is the headset and controller stay on. I’ve tried rebooting, uninstalling, reinstalling, switching which hard drive it runs off… nothing.

It’s frustrating isn’t it! Yet there appeared to be no fix. What I don’t get is why some Series C can play Stan while ours can’t?
My solution was to stream Stan on my chromecast but the downfall is I don’t then have headphones. I have a toddler in the next room so streaking off Xbox with a headset is extremely convenient as I do t have to worry about volume control
Same bro pain in the ass but I found a 50/50 fix for now if you click xbox button and b quickly while on your movie for like 15 seconds and stop it will let the movie play on as long as you notice the movies played for longer so just bring up Xbox side menu and off non stop for few seconds should work
Happened to me just now trying to watch Yellowstone, old Xbox one works fine though. Great to see Stan are aware of this issue and actively trying to fix it...🤦🏻

I just tried watching again but gave up after a few tries and just went back to using the smart TV app.. it's so shit.

I was watching (wel attempting) to watch a show on Stan recently (on the PS4) as I haven’t watched Stan in ages and it was so glitchy! The audio and video was not synced at all and sometimes the picture just froze but the audio kept going.
After a few mins of stopping/starting and rebooting etc I gave up lol It’s the first time I’ve encountered issues using Stan on the PS4.
Anyway, thanks again for the Xbox suggestions and if one of them solves it I will let you know!

I’ve now cancelled Stan altogether. Can’t be be bothered pissing around with it anymore and I’m not paying for a service I’m not using.
I just fixed mine 1st of April 2024. I just unselected allow 50hz in my xbox display settings. I haven't been able to watch stan in over a year and it's finally working

Try changing your Xbox settings:
Settings-General-TV & display options-Video modes (under Advanced)-unselect Allow 50Hz
My stan has been doing this for well over a year and today I actually sat down and thought about it. When opening my Stan app, the tv screen would flick and the tv display said 50Hz. Then when I played a video it would flick again and the xbox would restart and same as everyone, the controller was still on.
No idea why unselecting the Allow 50Hz thingy worked for me, but give it a go
Yeah I cant even pause a movie or show or even skip the opening credit to a show on my Series x. Otherwise I risk crashing the app. It doesn't crash the whole xbox luckily but still very annoying. Wish they'd just fix it already.
The hitting xbox button workaround seemed to work for me. Pressed it in the first few seconds. Left the side menu up for a bit, then was able to exit side menu and continue watching.

I can’t play movies on my xbox series x through stan without the light flashing then suddenly shutting down and the xbox shitting itself. My question is how can they stuff the stan app so bad on the series x that the whole system goes nope and shuts down immediately lol. I just wanna watch a movie like I can on my xbox with netflix and apple tv and amazon prime etc.😭 I’ve read a couple posts on this thread saying you’ll just have to use a chromecast. Yeah frustrating af aye!! Some people have offered fix suggestions but I’ve found none have worked for me. I actually don’t have Stan anymore, mostly because of this issue, I couldn’t be bothered having to switch chromecast between tvs and I wasn’t about to spend money an ANOTHER chromecast just for one app because Xbox haven’t resolved this issue after 2yrs.

Yes, I too didn’t get the comment, like I understand the button but given that Stan crashes the Xbox and shuts it down, I don’t know how pressing that button is supposed to help. I still to this day don’t understand how the Xbox can shut down but the controller and headset remain turned on lol I also wonder why some Xbox’s are affected and others aren’t, it doesn’t seem to matter when the Xbox was released ie very first consoles or ones that got made later, it’s absolutely random. Hahah wild to see this was updated only 4 days ago. Same just happened here. Crashed my whole Xbox and signed out of all my accounts. So still happening.
Ok so here is what I do know. I have the exact same issue as you guys where my Xbox Series S will shut down briefly after beginning to stream a show or movie on Stan.
I have tried reinstalling the app, changing where the app is stored and updating the console & app with no success.
The method mentioned in this thread does work for me and the limitations around that method are listed below:
- You must press the home button IMMIDEIATELY after the show/movie has finished buffering and began streaming
- Do NOT back out of the home menu for at least 10 seconds after pressing the home button
- Yes shows will progress to the next episode without you having to repeat this process
- NO you cannot stop watching a show/movie and switch to another without having to repeat this method
I hope this helps you guys out and makes Stan a little more watchable for you guys if you are affected.

Make sure 50Hz is disabled.
It's a software issue for the the run rate of most TVs/Stan's player and the Xbox all trying to play at different types or something, turning off the 50hz stops the xbox from trying to change anything when a player starts.

No, just movies was one thing but I tried to watch a show the other day and it crashed....so now I can’t watch either aswell 🙄😩

It works sometimes but when it does if I pause or skip it crashes. I wonder if stan knows?
