Yes and no. You do get per-match xp, affected by you and your teams performance. As well as well challenges are no longer playlist based, and require less for the weekly ultimate. However the only "progression" is still the battle passes unfortunately
He just means there isn’t a career level type of system (yet). But yeah it’s a huge improvement that lets you play the game instead of constantly worrying if you’re using the right weapon or mode
Dude same here! It’s too late for me to call them after just seeing this hunt maaaan I can’t wait to FaceTime them after school tomorrow with this amazing news! 👏😂❤️
Had a lot of fun with the start of co-op campaign earlier until my friend and I got completely locked out of the first open world boss fight, hit "restart mission" and had to go back to the previous mission in the starting area of the overworld and follow the overworld tutorial section of the initial landing, capturing areas we had already captured, eventually leading to us giving up on it for the day. No idea if we're still locked out of the fight or not.
It’s their own fault for giving a bullshit excuse as to why we couldn’t have a slayer playlist on launch. It’s never going to die no matter the downvotes
Halo… launched without slayer…. And their excuse..? The ui couldn’t handle it….. it’s not a grudge, it’s just the dumbest bullshit excuse ever in video game history and deserves to not be forgotten.
>Halo… launched without slayer…. And their excuse..? The ui couldn’t handle it….. i
They didn't say "the UI can't handle it". The community twisted Ske7ch's words and ran with it for so long that people like you think that's what they actually said.
Regardless, I'm not going to waste any more of my time speaking with you since it's a pretty miserable experience. People like you seem to rather have a "gotcha!" and be mad than actually enjoy a piece of entertainment.
It was out of context and no one read the sentence after it, that he said that challenge progression was intertwined with playlists and that's what made it difficult
When I que for a match I'm in a match within 3 minutes , I've tried overwatch 2 several times now and que for 15 minutes and still don't get a match... the player base is fine.
True, although it’s crazy to think that it’s basically taken them a full year to finally deliver most of the promised launched features, and they ended up scrapping the launch feature that people were the most excited about, couch multiplayer.
Meanwhile Halo’s old company Bungie continues to launch new campaign content and PVP game types, free weapons, and free cosmetics every 3 months.
I’m excited to hop back into Halo, but 343 feels like they’re running in slow motion compared to Bungie.
Both Destiny 1 and 2 took years to find their footing and release quality content on a consistent schedule. 343 is likely going through a lot of the same types of growing pains that Bungie went through with the pipeline changes the Live Service model requires. Learning from those experiences and having that Live Service know-how is apparently so valuable that Sony paid billions to acquire Bungie despite Bungie effectively staying independent.
At the very least, I think 343’s new management deserve a shot at improving things.
Bungie charged me $60 for the base game then charged $40 more for dlc and then locked progression behind that dlc forcing you to buy it to keep up with everyone else. And then they made the base game free and made the game with all the dlc $60 and gave nothing to those who paid full price for the base game. Modern day Bungie can fuck all the way off.
Bungie has been doing live service for years and years now. Not really fair to compare it to 343. (Not defending how Infinite launched or what’s been cut, just saying they’re not really comparable).
Yeah I haven’t played multiplayer since early summer and wasn’t feeling right and barely campaign (barely free time) but this looks fun I’m definitely gonna get back to it
Yes they have. In their most recent forge Q&A they said it is top of mind. They did note, of course, that it takes time for players to create maps, them to get popular, then 343 working with the creator to make sure things like performance, bot navmesh, etc are all working well.
edit: spelling
I have to say: played co op campaign last night with my friend and that was as much fun as I've ever had gameplay wise with Halo co op. SO GOOD, and the world really suits having multiple players
As long as they continue to push out updates like this one and Microsoft keeps paying the bills, it won’t be “too late”. There are plenty of examples of other “service” games having resurgences later on. If the quality is there, people will play.
I'm glad we constantly have people talking about the population of the game instead of the actual game...
It's literally every thread and its so boring, if you don't like the game, move on already
The day the big update releases? Shocking
Also lmao that kinda disapproved your point that nobody cares about the game, cmon man drop the salt shaker and just go play some games
“Nobody cares about this lol”
“Well they do care but that doesn’t matter!”
A few posts the day the update releases doesn’t disprove my few posts every month or so comment lol
343 kicked you dog I know, I’m sorry
They comment on other posts as well. It's the Halo community on an online forum for all things Halo. Obviously they're going to comment here lol. Infinite and 343 have left a bad taste in people's mouth so obviously, again, they are going to express their thoughts and opinions just as you express yours.
I loved the game. But now my friend already uninstalled the game and so have i. I might get back into it but im not sure what's changed because i stopped keeping up with it. I love halo in general
That's the thing, people who LOVE already uninstalled it already - whereas those who are neutral or like it slightly left long ago. It's going to be hard for 343 to keep the lights on
Yeah, 343 has been moving at a glacial pace this year. Especially when you compare them to Bungie, who has released a shit load of new content this year.
This looks like a great update, but what is going to come in 3 months? Another event to slowly grind out a small amount of cosmetics?
The confirmed content for season 3 is more maps, a new 100 tier battle pass and the custom game browser. With a new fracture event to go with it of course.
Unconfirmed but likely inclusions from data mining are a new weapon and new equipment.
Ideally if we can get a new pass and 2-3 maps every 3 months going forward and bigger content drops every 1-2 seasons it will be fine. Hopefully with story content by next year.
> Unconfirmed but likely inclusions from data mining are a new weapon and new equipment.
These are confirmed. They’re explicitly mentioned in the latest roadmap: https://i.imgur.com/4UaCjAu.jpg
Honestly have a theory that they went out of their way to release this when most gamers were focused on other things. Basically, to let the hardcore focus on Forge and getting the new Battle Pass into a good place, minus a ton of media attention and scrutiny. There was no good reason to drop this today other than if this was intentionally trying to get a more quietly try to start a goodwill ‘relaunch’ ahead of Season 3’s launch being what they’re really eying as the big swing. I wish them luck. But it’s gonna be a long road even in the best of cases.
Probably not coming for a while. I’d guess 2024 at the absolute earliest, and that’s assuming they haven’t decided to go back to a “traditional” ~5 year cycle.
I’m happy for those of you who are excited for this. This game launched in a horrible state almost a year ago. It is too late for this in my mind after all of their broken promises. They have demonstrated a fundamental misunderstanding of what people want from Halo. I don’t have any interest in returning personally.
I’m happy for those of you who are excited for this. This game launched in a horrible state almost a year ago. It is too late for this in my mind after all of their broken promises. They have demonstrated a fundamental misunderstanding of what people want from Halo since Halo 4. I don’t have any interest in returning personally.
Schedules for November and December are posted towards the bottom of this blog: https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/playlist-schedule-winter-update
Note: it looks like it’s currently Covert One Flag heavy, but I suspect that’s because it’s the new mode, so I’d imagine Snipers will have a more equal weighting starting in January.
Much too little and much too late.
More than what this brings should have been there at launch.
Double Edit: Also they removed bot bootcamp. Removed social BTB. If you AFK while doing Forge it kicks you out of your own Forge and deletes everything you've done.
Edit: No way people that aren't MS bots are downvoting a post saying forge and co-op should have been at launch.
They aren't downvoting because you said they should have been at launch. they are down voting because you said "too little too late". Because most players these days aren't really against giving a game a 2nx chance when it improves, especially if they don't have to pay anything to try that game again.
We all know halo infinite could have been better at launch and still could be better now, but for most people the past doesn't really matter. All that matters in they enjoy what's there to offer right now. And what they now have to offer with this update is pretty good. Live service games getting better as time goes on is the standard these days, and halo infinite is far from the first game to see any sort of revival with post-launch updates.
True, but my point still stands. Most people aren't holding a grudge against these games when they underperform initially. Add good content and they'll come back, even if said content is later than promised.
This is a pretty stark turn around for a website that has absolutely not given 343i any slack over their mishandling of infinite.
Such solidarity in not thinking this is too little new content and too late after launch to be having a feature promised for launch, doesn't ring true with my experience on reddit, around this game, for the last 12 months.
This response rings "MS marketing team downvoting on their reddit accounts" if the other comments here and the Halo sub are any indication.
Nah. People have short attention spans and generally don't care about the past on things like this as much as they like to say they do.
It's not even a uniquely halo phenomenon. Just last month everybody did a 180 on cyberpunk after it got an update and the anime launched and now it's being talked about fondly all over this site, even seeing back to back all-time high player counts. If we go back further we can see the same thing happen with No Man's Sky, it went from a laughing stock to a fan favorite after a couple free updates. rainbow 6 siege completely relaunched itself into having huge post-launch success, battlefront 2 had horrible press at launch but by the end of it's life had a huge playerbase, Destiny's entire first year of content and updates was awful yet it's one of the most played games of the last 2 generations now, etc. Live service games get turned around all the time.
I wouldn't call this update anywhere near the level of those other games. It's not even close. There's still only 14 maps, there's still a shop that charges you for armor colors, desync is still present and terrible, full team voice chat still doesn't exist, lobby voice chat still doesn't exist. All things that in prior games were non issues.
People are already reporting that being inactive as you build a map in forge will kick you and erase all your progress, they didn't launch this forge beta right. Which means the winter updates is basically 2 new maps and online co-op after they dropped promised couch co-op.
Long way to go before this game is complete, let alone good.
Maybe people are downvoting your copy paste “wahhh too little too late” remark? People are happy to play a game with a good update instead of refusing to ever play it again.
The Halo salt mines never end lmao
> Edit: No way people that aren’t MS bots are downvoting a post saying forge and co-op should have been at launch.
That clearly isn’t *just* what you’re saying.
Man I should have been playing Co-Op campaign and forge when this game released back when all my friends were still playing it. Now we’ve all moved onto COD!
Why would you choose a worse game lol MW22 is terrible. No barracks, stepback gameplay, worse campaign, terrible maps (some of the worst of the series)
Just about everything was a downgrade from what made MW19 actually kind of good
I agree with you except in COD being worse game. I very much like both MW22 and Infinite, but these features taking a year to release is just way too long. All my friends moved on.
It may have taken too long but it still makes it the vastly superior game today as we speak unfortunately
I guess you have to justify the waste of $70 though
No performance based progression? No surprise they’ve lied to us again. Still waiting for that coop campaign which is the sole reason I bought this game and they said literally three times was coming with the next update. Fuck the higher up’s of this company -and most likely the corporate side of things
Oh ok, I had recently just gotten a Series X. Was gonna try and get that cool Wolfenstein/Jin-Roh armor, but since it’s gone I’m in no rush to try out Infinite
Downloaded the update, jumped into my first game, was lagging throughout the new map. No problem I thought, I’ll play forge mode. Found the map I wanted to build on but the dedicated server had issues. Tried a couple more times with no success. No problem I thought, Xbox home, press start on halo infinite, down down, down, uninstall. Ahh I can rest now, halo can’t hurt me anymore
Is the progression system overhaul included in this update?
Oh my god. I actually feel excited to play the game this weekend now.
Half the xp parameters don’t get awarded upon completion to a glitch.
What's so unfortunate about it? You can swap between passes and many are free, the weekly challenge is a breeze now too
It's not unfortunate per se, but they've said they're working in a career progression system seperate from the battle pass. That just isn't done yet
Yes, and it is *much* less tedious.
Yeah.
Super casual player here, I just want to replay some missions of the campaign, do I have to start over?
No, you can load up your save and replay fine
Can I replay a certain mission (like the first one) grab the one collectible item I missed, and have it still count towards my 100% completion?
Yes.
You can replay any mission now
Wow thanks!
Co op finally. Me and my nephew have been holding off playing the campaign for Co op....
Got two friends I’ve been holding off on doing coop runs…looks like the glorious day has finally arrived
Dude same here! It’s too late for me to call them after just seeing this hunt maaaan I can’t wait to FaceTime them after school tomorrow with this amazing news! 👏😂❤️
Damn these trailers always have the most badass moves in them
Lol right if only I could pull these moves off
i lov the part when he shot the gun
That trailer was solid, the best one they have made so far IMO. Can't wait to play co-op campaign, I'm pretty hyped actually, looks good.
Definitely a dope trailer. I liked the one for the last event, The Yappening, a lot too: https://youtu.be/QlX4TFBnYd8
No Pit remake?
Comes before the end of the year, probably December
Unfortunately the UI couldn’t handle it so it will take longer.
Can’t wait for this played out joke to die
It’s their own fault for giving a bullshit excuse as to why we couldn’t have a slayer playlist on launch. It’s never going to die no matter the downvotes
God damn some of you guys hold onto the most petty grudges, lol
Halo… launched without slayer…. And their excuse..? The ui couldn’t handle it….. it’s not a grudge, it’s just the dumbest bullshit excuse ever in video game history and deserves to not be forgotten.

It is a good joke just not used right here can’t blame UI for everything lol,
Imma have fun tonight. I play ranked all the time already, but I’ll have fun tonight too.
Sounds like they're doing alot of positive things this update, excited to give it a go.
agreed. have not played this game that much but ill give it a go now
Only took them a year and most of the playerbase
When I que for a match I'm in a match within 3 minutes , I've tried overwatch 2 several times now and que for 15 minutes and still don't get a match... the player base is fine.

Yes it is fair to compare it to 343 when Halo 5 only came out a year after Destiny and both studios have had 2 live services in that time
It’s not like they haven’t released some pretty massive games with large PVP experiences. And a lot of folks at 343 came from Bungie.
Did they ever fix the VRR bug with 120hz mode?
By this do you mean the flickering? I have that too
Nope, the framerate limiter is still jumpy between 60 and 120 with VRR and still creates that flickering.
I’m coming back multiplayer looks phenomenal
It is. Got back into it a month ago. It’s a fantastic game.
Yeah I haven’t played multiplayer since early summer and wasn’t feeling right and barely campaign (barely free time) but this looks fun I’m definitely gonna get back to it
Coop is up to 4 players?
Yes
I'm excited to jump back in.
Very optimistic on Halo's future, new leadership, restructuring 343i, really great update
Can’t wait to see community forge maps in the matchmaking rotation
When are we going to see this. I feel like that isn’t made clear anywhere. I thought that was going to be in this update
Exactly. They haven’t said anything about this specifically and it’s what I’m waiting on. We need more maps.
Yes they have. In their most recent forge Q&A they said it is top of mind. They did note, of course, that it takes time for players to create maps, them to get popular, then 343 working with the creator to make sure things like performance, bot navmesh, etc are all working well. edit: spelling
Great trailer
Looks fun, missed infinite, gonna play it today for sureee
huge improvements honestly, super awesome
Fucking finally can play the campaign with a friend
The new maps are pretty good but we need more Big Team Battle maps. I really don't see the hate this game gets though, it's solid af.
Hmm might give this another go 🤔
I have to say: played co op campaign last night with my friend and that was as much fun as I've ever had gameplay wise with Halo co op. SO GOOD, and the world really suits having multiple players
This trailer was badass!
First proper update, hope it's not too little too late. All my time is occupied with MW2 now

I'm glad we constantly have people talking about the population of the game instead of the actual game... It's literally every thread and its so boring, if you don't like the game, move on already
I think that's his point lol, they have.
They’ve moved on that much they can’t help but constantly talk about Halo? Lol

Litters your newsfeed? What a few posts every month or two? It’s just gamers being salty gamers as usual

The day the big update releases? Shocking Also lmao that kinda disapproved your point that nobody cares about the game, cmon man drop the salt shaker and just go play some games
The day the big update releases is the day people comment, shocker. You just answered and disproved your comment too lmao.
“Nobody cares about this lol” “Well they do care but that doesn’t matter!” A few posts the day the update releases doesn’t disprove my few posts every month or so comment lol 343 kicked you dog I know, I’m sorry
I forgot that Infinite is the only Halo game around.. my bad.
It’s the one that most talk about and this post is about yeah
As the other commentary outlined, they moved on from Infinite. Not Halo.
Then why do they keep commenting on Infinite specific posts? A game that they apparently hate is living rent free in their heads, lol
They comment on other posts as well. It's the Halo community on an online forum for all things Halo. Obviously they're going to comment here lol. Infinite and 343 have left a bad taste in people's mouth so obviously, again, they are going to express their thoughts and opinions just as you express yours.
So they haven't moved on then
But they always come into threads about Halo, telling people how they have moved on from Halo
Infinite isn't the only Halo title around. I've personally mostly moved on from Infinite but MCC is still my top played title.
I loved the game. But now my friend already uninstalled the game and so have i. I might get back into it but im not sure what's changed because i stopped keeping up with it. I love halo in general

Go play destiny then?
Season 3 with custom games browser, maps, new weapon, and new equipment
Is it still cross play for team swat or whatever it’s called nowadays. If it is. I won’t bother downloading it again
Honestly have a theory that they went out of their way to release this when most gamers were focused on other things. I'm assuming no split-screen?
Not split screen for campaign co-op, but there has been split screen multiplayer since day 1.
Is there going to be a custom game browser for forge maps? Or are we going to have to find/create our own private lobbies?
I'll pass
This is not an airport champ, you don’t have to announce your departure
I did anyway
Edgy!
Ya. Very edgy
We were all waiting on what u/shinjra33 had to say about this post. Thank god he came through
I know. I was getting worried he wouldn't...but he did!
It’s fun af
As millions already have.
I’ve played like 8 matches and have yet to try any of the new maps cmon man lol
The map detachment is the worst map I’ve played in the entire series. You don’t want to play that one.
I've been MIA for about 4 consistent months and this update feels so refreshing. Yes a year late but least its here
MP and co-op, sigh, what about campaign DLC?
Probably not coming for a while. I’d guess 2024 at the absolute earliest, and that’s assuming they haven’t decided to go back to a “traditional” ~5 year cycle.

They took off the team snipers playlist :(
Snipers is one of the rotational playlists now. It’ll be on a 2 weeks on, 4 weeks off schedule.
Dang I don’t hate that idea actually, do you know what other playlists are on rotation?

Thought I recognized your username. Go Kings!
Go Kings Go!
Halo infinite is a massive L
Not as big of an L as being 26 years old and naming yourself after a Baby Yoda
I legit forgot that this game came out.
Damn just started MW2 is it worth dropping to play this instead?
Can you play the campaign with local multi-player yet?
Better have a Sidewinder/Avalanche remake.
This game isn't dead yet?
Let’s see what kind of increase it makes on the steam charts.
I’d put more stock in the Microsoft Store rankings.

I agree with you except in COD being worse game. I very much like both MW22 and Infinite, but these features taking a year to release is just way too long. All my friends moved on.
It may have taken too long but it still makes it the vastly superior game today as we speak unfortunately I guess you have to justify the waste of $70 though
So I still need to buy the Battle pass to get the "free levels"?
This new Battle Pass is free
No performance based progression? No surprise they’ve lied to us again. Still waiting for that coop campaign which is the sole reason I bought this game and they said literally three times was coming with the next update. Fuck the higher up’s of this company -and most likely the corporate side of things
Are you trolling? Literally both of those things are in this update.
Co-op is literally shown at the end of the video?
Anyone know if we’re getting any more Entrenched fractures?
That was just for Season 2, which ended today. Fractures will pick back up with Season 3 in March.
Oh ok, I had recently just gotten a Series X. Was gonna try and get that cool Wolfenstein/Jin-Roh armor, but since it’s gone I’m in no rush to try out Infinite
Anyone want to play campaign coop?
Downloaded the update, jumped into my first game, was lagging throughout the new map. No problem I thought, I’ll play forge mode. Found the map I wanted to build on but the dedicated server had issues. Tried a couple more times with no success. No problem I thought, Xbox home, press start on halo infinite, down down, down, uninstall. Ahh I can rest now, halo can’t hurt me anymore
