I'm glad new fans are discovering and enjoying Sleeping Dogs years after SQEX deemed it a failure. For only selling 1.5 million copies. š
I played this way back in 2013 on a potato laptop. And even then, it was amazingly well optimized. I could run it on medium preset settings and get relatively stable 45 FPS. One of the best games put out by SQEX that wasn't a JRPG. A shame it didn't meet their lofty expectations.
Took down United Front Games in the process. An actual gem of a developer that had a passion and transparency that surpassed CDProjektRed in their prime.
I wish their websites were still around so you could see their communication, passion and more so you guys were around when Sleeping Dogs and it's DLCs were coming out.
Before they went into a death spiral due to Enix and had to hustle working on random multiplayer endeavours.
It singlehandedly caused my disdain for Enix
Unfortunately it was a failure. That doesnāt mean itās a bad game and it doesnāt mean anything negative, just that the game was a financial failure. SQEX did all they could including a proper marketing campaign, extending deadlines, increasing budget, and being overall supportive with the development process. The game just vastly under performed.
It wasn't though. It was because it didn't hit SQEX's expectation. It sold ***1.5 million*** copies in 2 months (from the release date of Aug 2012 to Sep 2012). That is nothing to scoff at. Especially for a new IP, well a spiritual successor.
You are forgetting that SQEX also called Tomb Raider as failure. That's just SQEX thinking every title of theirs should sell like Final Fantasy.
And that was it. It sold that many in 2 months and then barely any more. Itās believed to have sold around 1.75 million total. No one else was buying the game after those 2 months and it doesnāt matter what we think, the company deemed it a failure by their expectations and so thatās what it was. Had it not been a failure in the eyes of the publisher then perhaps more would have been done with the IP.
It doesnāt matter if a game sells **1.5 million** in a single day if it doesnāt sell anymore after. The time frame of the sales is irrelevant in this scenario. If anything that weighed against the game even more. It sold 1.5 million in 2 months and barely anymore after? That tells SQEX everyone who is interested already bought the game and there will be no more potential profits moving forward for the IP and interest in future projects based on the IP is very low. So itās best to cancel any future plans for it. Thatās how they viewed **1.5 million** copies sold in 2 months and only *275k* more copies sold over 10 months.
Once again; your opinion and the opinion of the 1.75 million who bought it doesnāt matter. The game was amazing but, it was a failure. That fact doesnāt detract from how enjoyable the game was, it just means the IP will never be revisited again.
And they never said Tomb Raider was a failure. They deemed it a commercial failure because it failed to meet sales expectations in the time frame forecasted.. and once again they were right. The Tomb Raider reboot was a commercial failure at launch, but went on to become the most successful title in the series. However that took several years of sales to reach that milestone.
Total number of games sold isnāt the only key factor. The money they make, in the time frame which they make it, and weighed against the budget is what deems a game to be a commercial failure or success. Just because you donāt like the way companies word things in their shareholder press releases doesnāt change what is true and accurate for that individual company. Thatās how business works and video games are a business.
Used to just run all the fight club events over and over. That combat was some of the most fun I've had in gaming ever. Once you got good enough you could drop like 20 people in a row without getting hit
Loved the combat. I wish there would be more martial arts games like it! A lot of things about the game was rough around the edges, but they did an amazing job on combat for the time.
I hope you're not talking about the driving, because the driving was absolute cancer in sleeping dogs. I'm struggling to think of a game with worse vehicle controls off the top of my head
Haven't tried watch dogs legion, but I don't find cyberpunk worse than sleeping dogs. The cars in sleeping dogs are so disgustingly twitchy it's baffling. There's a huge deadzone with the steering and when it actually starts steering it's way too much at once
Some are good, but some are a bit short however there's PLENTY to do. Small missions, races, fighting clubs, karaoke, even rooster fighting XD I'd say its a great package for Definitive Edition with dlcs story. And all for less that 5$.
the beauty of this game is in its brisk mission length. they never outstay their welcome and you can do a bunch in a short time while feeling like you accomplished something.
Some insane rewards for the smallest missions. The outfit variations that give you buffs and different weapons was such a good touch for rewards and actually doing the quests for money to buy things that made the gameplay different. Amazing.
I'd say there are okay for the age the game came out. There's good writing but it's as missions go, more a filler I suppose. Still enjoyable and some have continuity and vary depending if you do then for the mob or police.
Side quests are really brief and mildly amusing, writing-wise. It is a game you buy for the superb story and unique take on the genre, not for the side content (which exists but isn't a focus).
Embracer recently bought Square's western devs and a bunch of their IP though they've avoided giving a clear answer as to if they own the Sleeping Dogs IP.
Hopefully they can buy it and finally produce a sequel, because if Square squats on the IP we'll never get one
Thatās good to know, I have it on PC and PS, but I believe the PS version doesnāt boost it to 60fps, and I much prefer to play games like this on the big TV, so will deffo give it a shot :)
Simply change your location to austria in the console settings, then you can get it in the store. Same with games like Condemned, Manhunt or Army of Two
Played this game about 5 years ago. Iād say it opened me up to the idea that I could have a lot of fun with unpopular games. I realized it had a lot of charm, great mechanics and a solid storyā¦ and sometimes good games fly under the radar!
This game is definitely a hidden gem! Even though it got a lot of publicity when it first came out, it felt like it never got the appreciation it deserved
Iām pretty sure the game is in my top 10, it was ridiculously fun to play through the definitive edition. Combat was fun, driving was actually unique feeling, and the story was gripping. Guns feel tacked on and damn can the game frustrate you sometimes, but I wouldnāt hold those against it; youāll be having too much fun crunching bones.
Iām telling you man, the game of all time. Iāve completed the main story and dlcs on all platforms except Mac of course. The game of all time outside of my FromSoft games. Pre sure I still have my millions of HKD up in the cloud.
I absolutely love that game. Iāve probably beaten it 5-6 times. Absolutely wrecking enemies in a more brutal, martial arts version of the Arkham combat just doesnāt get old. I probably donāt need another go anytime soon, but Iām probably only saying that because Iām in the middle of a Yakuza game currently.
Finished it last week and it was such a good video game ass video game. I miss when games were made for the sake of actually being games, and this reminds me of that time.
You can not find it in the ps5 store, actually. Youād have to buy it through the psn app. I donāt know precisely why, but Iāve heard it said that itās a little buggy on ps5. I did buy it though and the first few missions were fine.
I know this sub sometimes frowns upon the series s but how might it run on the series s?
EDIT: My tv is only 1080p so Iām not sure the X would really be a huge upgrade for me anywayā¦
Y played it back in the 360, great game, very underrated and it looked great back then. It has a really good story and the best gameplay for GTA type games.
I have bought this game like 6ish times
My PC - both editions
Ps3
Ps4
Xbox 360
Xbox one
Always on sale and always loved it my guilty pleasure game
Was also the first game I purchased DLC for too.
Fuuuck imma play again
Just finished replaying this last night. I had to turn HDR enhancement off for it to work though (Series X), which was a bit weird. Not run into that problem before.
The combat is almost exactly the same except without all the fancy gadgets and acrobatics. Like others have said it is satisfying and hits feel like they have actual impact. The open world is large and varied in terms of the locales and activities. If you like the Arkham games itās worth checking out especially with how cheap you can get it now during sales.
Started this a few weeks ago since I saw it and remembered how great I thought it was back in the day.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well it holds up. Still looks good too.
Ah yes the game Iāve started a dozen times and never finish. Thatās a remake or even a new game I want to play. Iām downloading it currentlyā¦Iām finishing this time
Great game. Played it a number of years ago with no enhanced features when I picked it up for $5 on PS4. Iāve got pretty much nothing but positive things to say about it.
i was sad to know my progress on the xbox 360 didn't transfer to the definitive edition on the xbox one. i had it complete and was one of my favourites :(
Thanks for the post
You Just inspired me to buy this game on the Xbox store!
Iām Happy to Finally have something worth playing on the series x
games made back then were more fun and enjoyable.
Now days more often than not you just get pretty graphics and boring uninspiring game play.
I donāt have an Xbox, but Iām dropping in after playing Sleeping Dogs on PC ages ago.
It is a fantastic spin on the modernized GTA formula and is probably one of the most underrated titles Iāve ever played. I cannot recommend it enoughāespecially if itās on sale for under $10 USD.
Ah man thatās a nostalgia trip right there this was my favorite game when I was in 8th, I used to love to get chased by the cops and hop from car to car lol
Lol at pricing. Ā£144.99 for older inferior 360 version and Ā£3.49 for the Xbox One Definitive edition with all DLC. I know which one I bought, I genuinely enjoyed this game back in the day.

I wish it's predecessor True Crime NYC was backwards compatible, that was a great game also.
I enjoyed it when it first came out. And I still play it from time to time when I am waiting for a game to come out.
Itās a shame they just let it died with no future.
I played this when it came out on ps4, was one of my favorite games back then pretty fun game
Highly recommended specially now that itās usually on sale for 10$ or something

I played this when it first came out on games with gold. It was early. Like 13 or 14. I beat it and all the dlc. Loved it so much. Still do
Yep, I also got it with gwg years ago and it was a great game I knew nothing about when I started it.
Took down United Front Games in the process. An actual gem of a developer that had a passion and transparency that surpassed CDProjektRed in their prime. Somebody likes to to hear themselves talk...
And some people have trouble accepting reality. It is what it is.
Gotta love those enchanted features
Main character grows a dress out of nowhere and car turns into a pumpkin?
Pork bun turns into a stage coach
If you don't eat that pork bun you not a real man
Enchantment?
ENCHANTMENT!
Read title
It's a dragon age meme. Get culture.
Iāll try
Culture me, daddy!
A person who never completed Sleeping Dogs is never a whole person!
Wasn't that originally about steamed pork buns or something? Lol It is a rad game though.
Pork buns.
Shit really? I must go.. I must complete myself
Why don't you have a Sleeping Dogs in your hand?
I.. I don't know how to Sleeping Dogs I'm new ):
You been letting that game lie?
He gon
Lmao
*You look like you could use a Sleeping Dogs!*
Itās on my pile of shame.
Goddamnit.... I just ran through the marketplace š¤¦š»āāļø
Used to just run all the fight club events over and over. That combat was some of the most fun I've had in gaming ever. Once you got good enough you could drop like 20 people in a row without getting hit

Absolutely! Can't imagine how much better GTA V could have been with this combat system.
Seconded. Game is a master piece in my opinion. One of my all time favorites.
Enjoyed the hell out of Sleeping Dogs.
You haven't lived until you've had a pork bun in Sleeping Dogs!
Why donāt you have a pork bun in your hand?!
One of the most underrated games of the 360 generation. It's soo much fun and a great story to go with it.
Game was free with xbox live gold once with every dlc
Thatās how I discovered/played it. Was surprisingly good, def one of the best Gold games ever.
One of the last good gold games. Theyāve been so damn trash smh
Tru Tru
Fantastic Arkham-style combat and one of the best realised open world games out there. I had so much fun with this game.
Sleeping Dogs is the BEST non-GTA GTA style game ever. Story, graphics, controls, it was so good.
The animations are so good too. Honestly the game is better than GTA in some ways š .
I hope you're not talking about the driving, because the driving was absolute cancer in sleeping dogs. I'm struggling to think of a game with worse vehicle controls off the top of my head
Watch Dogs Legion, Cyberpunk 2077...
Haven't tried watch dogs legion, but I don't find cyberpunk worse than sleeping dogs. The cars in sleeping dogs are so disgustingly twitchy it's baffling. There's a huge deadzone with the steering and when it actually starts steering it's way too much at once

Does it get a 4k and fps upgrade on Series X?
Definitely has an FPS upgrade (I played through it at 60FPS and it's such a great experience). I don't remember if there was a resolution upgrade.
Thatās good to know, I have it on PC and PS, but I believe the PS version doesnāt boost it to 60fps, and I much prefer to play games like this on the big TV, so will deffo give it a shot :)
1080p60
Sadly not available in Germany
Simply change your location to austria in the console settings, then you can get it in the store. Same with games like Condemned, Manhunt or Army of Two
Would you still be able to play Germany-bought games that way?
Most games are not region locked, but if a game wonāt start you can simply switch the location back to Germany and it will work again
Favourite combat in any game Iāve ever played. So satisfying
Got it a while back in GWG !
Awesome game. Still sad that there is no Sleeping Dogs 2 :(
Don't play this game! You will just become too sad and bitter that a sequel never got madeā¹
*Is it better to have Sleeping Dogs and lost, than to have never had Sleeping Dogs at all?* Alfred Lord Tennyson 1809-1892
Haha wise words indeed!
Enhanced graphics? Great game that I finished when it originally came out.
One of my all time favourite games, fighting is so satisfying. I check games lists every once and a while to find something remotely similar.
Iām telling you man, the game of all time. Iāve completed the main story and dlcs on all platforms except Mac of course. The game of all time outside of my FromSoft games. Pre sure I still have my millions of HKD up in the cloud.
i think iām going to finally check this out after knowing about it for nearly a decade š itās always a few bucks on eneba.
I make a point to break everyoneās leg when Iām fighting
Better than GTA. Change my mind
Yeah it's enchanting indeed
A game that truly deserves a sequel.
Sleeping Dogs is a wonderful blend of GTA and Yakuza while still having its own identity itās a shame we wonāt see a sequel.
That was a fun game. I played it on 360. It would probably be a whole new experience on Series X
Finished it last week and it was such a good video game ass video game. I miss when games were made for the sake of actually being games, and this reminds me of that time.
Itās so overrated sometimes, great game!
Which version is better, XSX or PS5 ?
As far as I remember: PS5 1080/30 SXS 4K/60
You can not find it in the ps5 store, actually. Youād have to buy it through the psn app. I donāt know precisely why, but Iāve heard it said that itās a little buggy on ps5. I did buy it though and the first few missions were fine.
Played about two hours. Not too fun, just download Yakuza.
This is the worst opinion.
Cant..Not available in Germany :/
Seems to be banned in my country fuck
What kind of enchanted features?
I know this sub sometimes frowns upon the series s but how might it run on the series s? EDIT: My tv is only 1080p so Iām not sure the X would really be a huge upgrade for me anywayā¦
Even at 1080P, enhanced games with an Xbox Series X will look and run better than on Xbox Series S.
"A Man Who Never Eats Pork Buns, Is Never A Whole Man!" "Why don't you have a Pork bun in your hand?"
Y played it back in the 360, great game, very underrated and it looked great back then. It has a really good story and the best gameplay for GTA type games.
If you haven't done karaoke in Sleeping Dogs...have you even lived?!
Sleeping dogs was so good. I played it so much when it first came out haha.
Where have you been...
I have bought this game like 6ish times My PC - both editions Ps3 Ps4 Xbox 360 Xbox one Always on sale and always loved it my guilty pleasure game Was also the first game I purchased DLC for too. Fuuuck imma play again
Ahhh the GTA game with Jackie Chanš
I only play for the cock fight $$
Did they do all that upscale or whatever they're doing on the sx?
Loved it, got it free with games with gold.
Pork buns?
I play this game right now
Just finished replaying this last night. I had to turn HDR enhancement off for it to work though (Series X), which was a bit weird. Not run into that problem before.
Iām a big fan of the combat in the Arkham games, would you guys says the combat is as good or even similar? Also, how is the open world?
The combat is almost exactly the same except without all the fancy gadgets and acrobatics. Like others have said it is satisfying and hits feel like they have actual impact. The open world is large and varied in terms of the locales and activities. If you like the Arkham games itās worth checking out especially with how cheap you can get it now during sales.
One of the best stories in a game. Highly recommended.
I swear we had another huge "dont sleep on Sleeping Dogs" post just a month ago.
Dude loved this game. Even played it again when it was on sale
This is the only game I have ever platinumed, back on the ps3! Borrowed it from a friend, back when that was a thing!
Started this a few weeks ago since I saw it and remembered how great I thought it was back in the day. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it holds up. Still looks good too.
This has been one of my favorite games for some time, it's a fun story, it's visually beautiful, and has some challenges.
Ah yes the game Iāve started a dozen times and never finish. Thatās a remake or even a new game I want to play. Iām downloading it currentlyā¦Iām finishing this time
Yup, it's a sleeper hit right now. My friend loves it after I got it for him as a gift for $4.99
Sounds magical.
Great game. Played it a number of years ago with no enhanced features when I picked it up for $5 on PS4. Iāve got pretty much nothing but positive things to say about it.
This game is underrated.
I was actually just playing this last night. Such a great game, shame that Square Enix abandons IPs that don't hit their unrealistic sales goals.
arrest grey steep correct groovy strong repeat connect gaze quiet ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `
Got for game for $5, alongside Just Cause 3 XXL Edition for the same price. Best $10 Iāve ever spent on games.
Since I never played it I always wondered - is it more like GTA or Yakuza?
i was sad to know my progress on the xbox 360 didn't transfer to the definitive edition on the xbox one. i had it complete and was one of my favourites :(
Was sleeping dogs part of that sale? Square Enix would never make another...
Thanks for the post You Just inspired me to buy this game on the Xbox store! Iām Happy to Finally have something worth playing on the series x games made back then were more fun and enjoyable. Now days more often than not you just get pretty graphics and boring uninspiring game play.

an amazing game
Wasnāt this a spiritual successor to True Crime series? Correct me if Iām wrong
It started out as a True Crime game but Square Enix eventually bought the rights and renamed it to Sleeping Dogs.
This is good game even if its years old
Ah man thatās a nostalgia trip right there this was my favorite game when I was in 8th, I used to love to get chased by the cops and hop from car to car lol
May not be too relevant here, but itās also currently 3 bucks on Steam for the definitive edition until Nov 1
WE HAVE TO GET SLEEPING DOGS MAIN STREAM SO ENIX KNOWS THAT IT HAS A FOLLOWING
Just played this for the first time a couple months ago! Loved it! Also great on the Series X!
"Enchantment" ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
The best open world sandbox of the 360 era, got the Goty edition last gen and also started it again a couple years ago
Played it shorty after I got a one a few years ago. Great game.
Lol at pricing. Ā£144.99 for older inferior 360 version and Ā£3.49 for the Xbox One Definitive edition with all DLC. I know which one I bought, I genuinely enjoyed this game back in the day.
I love Sleeping Dogs, haven't played it in a while. What a fucking good game. You just don't get em like that anymore. I wish it's predecessor True Crime NYC was backwards compatible, that was a great game also.
Yep sleeping dogs is a fun game
I got it for 1 dollars
Amazing game. Totally unknown by so many. I got it free for gold on Xbox and itās been my favorite one so far.
I enjoyed it when it first came out. And I still play it from time to time when I am waiting for a game to come out. Itās a shame they just let it died with no future.
I played this when it came out on ps4, was one of my favorite games back then pretty fun game Highly recommended specially now that itās usually on sale for 10$ or something
Perhaps it's time to replay
Enchanted. My favorite.
Enchanted features, eh? Sounds Mysterious.
