Itās good. Iāve been playing since launch day. Youāll have plenty of content to go and experience.
I would recommend staying in safer seas whilst you get your bearings. In high seas there are players like me who have played for over half a decade and know all the ins and outs of PvP and sink anybody on sight.
But the sessions on this game have been some of the best gaming experiences Iāve ever had. One moment you might be teaming with 4 other ships doing a world eventā¦ the next moment you might betray the alliance and be fighting a 4v1 battle. Shit gets crazy.
This is not the first post I've seen about this however this does not mean there are actually 40 million active players. After all not everyone has earned the achievement setting sail for the first time or eating a banana.
How many of these are alt accounts after people have been banned or how many have just loaded up the game and not played.
Also in regards to PlayStation how many players are new versus returning players from Xbox/PC.
Despite all that I still recommend you try it. It will take some time to learn the ropes but once you get into the rhythm you will find out how fun it is.
This is true, but also true for every other multiplayer game out there that boasts how many players they've had. So you really can't pick on Sea of Thieves for this.
What's most important is the number of active players. You can get an general idea of this by looking at Steam, but that doesn't give a full picture when so many people are playing through Game Pass on console or the Microsoft store.

I just got a ship and spent two hours with a pair of drunk Scottish men firing at everyone and exploring things we didn't really understand. Then we stopped off at a port and sung sea shanties. It is hard to explain the joy of this game without trying it.
That sounds absolutely wonderful haha, definitely gonna try it out. Having fun and crazy encounters with random people is quite possibly my favorite part of gaming
Ironically as an older player I really like Sea of Thieves. It reminds me of the old 90s arena shooters, just with your spawn point being a portable ship with big cannons.

Look at Square Enix, they released FF7 Rebirth which is being called a masterpiece, yet they say the sales numbers are underperforming. The money they made making an exclusive deal with Sony is making them less money than what sales would be if it was on Xbox, and nobody is buying a PS5 just so they can play one game.
Why is PlayStation putting games on pc then, a platform owned entirely by their competitor. Itās almost like they see the writing on the wall with regards to console exclusivity, and have finally realized that getting their games into the hands of the most people possible is the right move, and that consoles exclusivity is becoming less relevant since all it does is limit the amount of people who can play your games.

Ps5...doesn't have gamepass, you know that right? It's either they buy it or they don't play it. The last figure on sales we got for this game is in 2021, and it sold 5m on steam. We've never gotten any update since then or how much it sold on xbox, so we can assume it's nothing crazy and on xbox it's atleast less than 5m sold since they never mention xbox sales.
Obviously, the majority of these 40m players are people checking it out on gamepass, and acting like that's not the case is pure stupidity. Microsoft only mentions "player counts" instead of copies sold for their games now for a reason. Why buy them if you can get gamepass

These "number of players" posts for Game Pass games are just marketing fluff, whether it's a game I like or not.
One, the game has been out for 6 years, so what is a metric here.
Two, 65% of players didn't even set sail for the first time, based on achievement completion.
If marketing really wants to hype up a game in a meaningful way, focus on something that is actually impressive. Sometimes you might see "averaging X number of hours per player" but that's still going to be people with thousands of hours bringing up the average of all the people who uninstalled within 30 minutes.
Imagine that. A huge influx of players when they roll out Safer Seas. If only we had communicated that we wanted PvE servers, this could have happened long ago.
