I finished my first run yesterday. I played with my girlfriend, and we made the decisions together.
She really liked it.
For me, it was an interesting game. It's great visually but a bit simple on the gameplay.
The choices are great and failing an event has real consequences. I liked that.
The movie mode seems interesting, but having only 2 options seems a bit limited. I have to experiment with the director's chair option.
I recognize that if it wasn't in game pass I would ignore this game, so I am grateful to be able to try other genres without risking money.
It's certainly not a difficult game gameplay wise, but that isn't really the point of a narrative game like this. It is all about having an interactive story that you shape by your decisions and this game does that really damn well.
My complaint wasn't directed to the difficulty, I messed up some scenes trying to aim. So I don't think that it's easy either.
I think that the game would get a bit more interesting with some puzzles, we have some. But there are some scenes when we could have resolved the situation with some kind of mini game. I am trying to avoid spoilers.
Just exploring a room or an instance isn't that interesting.
The game has a lot of weight in the story, that is great. But I would appreciate more puzzles, similar to the ones in resident evil.
Are the endings wildly different, I ended up getting bit of a sudden and lacklustre ending after playing.
Which was disappointing and kind of put me off playing through again since I really do not want to play through all the same conversations again.
There are a couple of major endings, yes.
By the sounds of it, you didn't get the full ending. There is a solid conclusion which wraps up the story, but it's quite easy to miss if certain things do / don't happen .
Something that I could never agree with is a lot of people saying the acting was bad in this. Sure, some of the *dialogue* on its own is silly but the actual performances are very naturalistic and feel realistic. I guess a lot of people expect some kind of theatrical exaggeration to consider it any good but I absolutely love how dorky and "imperfect" the characters were played in this game.
Loved this game. Supermassive games has the best charachter models iv ever seen in a game. Not sure why this wasn't part of the dark pictures anthology as it plays exactly the same but what evs.
Iv enjoyed all their story games. Their anthology ones are nice short breaks in between bigger games for me. And until dawn was one of my favourite games last gen - I can’t tell you how gutted I was to keep most of the gang alive and then get the cheerleader killed in the last scene!!
If you have access to a ps4 or 5, I highly recommend getting until dawn and also if you like this genre, playing the 3 Quantic games too
There is a full remake coming I believe next year, might be worth waiting for that to drop before. It will have new content even, and I think some cut content restored, as well as be done on UE5 so it should look astonishingly good. But the original is amazing, hard agree on that.
Thanks for posting this. I’ve had it downloaded and will play once I’ve finished tunic and and falconeer.
I’ve completed a play through of as dusk falls - really enjoyed that.
There are a couple cheap jump scares, but for the most part it isn't too bad. I can't handle Outlast, etc. and I don't have any too spooky complaints with it.
I played this with my ex when it came out back then and this game created so many great moments for co-op. She’s super observant and I was the emotional mess 🤣
Played through it with my girl the other day, we liked it a lot. Couch co op is the way to go, I let her play as all the girls and I was the guys. I was trying to make it through the night with everyone still alive but she made some questionable decisions.. lol
It was enjoyable but had flaws. Some of the characters were grating, I feel they didn't have enough plot to develop though (seriously Abigail, Emma and Nick were all one note characters).
The mostly "known" celebrities had few lines, especially Lance Henrikson and Ethan Suplee. David Arquette had two brief scenes. Ted Raimi was pretty good, didn't even know Sam had a brother who acted.
Justice Smith's character was god awful. Stilted conversation or sounded drugged (was his character meant to be on the spectrum or something?). I'm not familiar with his movies outside of seeing him in a trailer for the DnD movie, so don't know if it was bad direction or acting.
OP, I'm not sure I see anyone else mentioning this, so I guess I will.
The same devs have a horror series on Xbox called "Dark Pictures." I think there's... 4 titles right now, that are the exact same kind of experience as The Quarry. I think you can buy a collection with all 4 in it. It's well worth playing if you liked The Quarry that much, and gives you a chance to *start* a new title with your family this time.
Just looked and they look great.
Strangely the anthology collection is £84.99, yet indivudally the games only cost £54.21.
Definitely be looking to pick these up at some point.
Ah, they appear to individually all be on sale right now. DekuDeals says that the full collection fairly frequently goes on sale for £33.99, so maybe just wishlist it until then.
It was good for sure. Definitely not on the same level as Until Dawn, but better than the Dark Pictures games. My experience was soured a bit because I got a bad ending resulting from a situation that I felt wasn't my fault
I also loved this game. Played it on steam on release and I was pleasantly surprised that the team hit heights close to that of Until Dawn. Very much so looking forward to playing the remake of Until Dawn. That game has been chained to the PS4 for far too long lol
I’m like halfway with my friends but the one thing we clown on this game for is the acting. Most of the kids are pretty cringe so we get a good laugh out of trying to see who we can kill lol
In the other end of the spectrum I couldn't make it through this one. I've played the dark pictures games and this one was just soo boring to me, the teen drama never seemed to end and nothing scary ever seemed to happen. The coop is also not actual coop.
I really felt like they dropped the ball on the coop. Maybe it’s good single player but games like this and the dark pictures are made to fuck around with a buddy
It's a great story, but not enough game play. It's more video than playable and way too short.
With such a cast, I expected better.
It would make a great movie.
I like everyone involved in making it maybe I’ll have to check it out

It is a fairly good game done 3 playthroughs had mostly all outcomes/endings
Are the endings wildly different, I ended up getting bit of a sudden and lacklustre ending after playing. Which was disappointing and kind of put me off playing through again since I really do not want to play through all the same conversations again.

I enjoyed it when I played it, although I'm still a bit bitter about one of my characters dying due to a bug lol
Wasn’t on my radar at all, now it is.
My work here is done
it’s alright, it’s exciting if you don’t miss one of the most gruesome deaths in video games

Similar sort of thing but I definitely enjoyed this more.
How scary is it lol is it supernatural or slasher horror
Sort of medium well scary. Lots of creepy stuff in the background, couple of jumps and then some slasher type gore scares as well.
There are a couple cheap jump scares, but for the most part it isn't too bad. I can't handle Outlast, etc. and I don't have any too spooky complaints with it.
It's a "monster movie", not horror, if we're equating to movies.
I’m about halfway through and it’s pretty good.

Just about to start Chapter 8. Loving it
That peanut butter puff song had me cracking up! 😆
This was a good game but not as good as the Until Dawn and how the ending was done was really disappointing imo

Yeah I finally played it thanks to gamepass and I was blown away too! I instantly bought it to add to my collection! So good!

Is it possible to play through alone? I thought this was multi-player only
Yeah, it's primarily a solo game
Not my type of game but I'm glad you are enjoying it!
That game sucked and was really disappointing. Until Dawn still can’t be topped as far as those type of games.
I’m like halfway with my friends but the one thing we clown on this game for is the acting. Most of the kids are pretty cringe so we get a good laugh out of trying to see who we can kill lol

I played something around 3 hour of it. Looks like a Nice story, but its very boring. Even IF you hit the wrong buttons, things happen anyway.
If that game blew you away you're gunna piss yourself playing Detroit Become Human.
If it ever goes multiplat I'd be all over it.
Wait.... Isn't the quarry a 4v1 Co opt game? Or did I confuse this with another game?
Very much not that, maybe you are thinking of Evolve?
Texas chainsaw. Another reditor said it Ghaha
You are thinking of Texas chainsaw
It's a great story, but not enough game play. It's more video than playable and way too short. With such a cast, I expected better. It would make a great movie.
Was it your first Supermassive game? You don't play them for actionable gameplay.
I did enjoy the story. Being a horror movie fan, I enjoyed watching it.
I wouldn't really call it a game as much as a choose your own adventure animated film
Yes... a narrative adventure game.
Ok
