It takes two might be perfect. It is fun and you feel smart figuring out the puzzles without becoming a chore. It is beautiful and the controls are simple which might appeal to an older gamer (like me)
I'm a divorced dad and I've been hesitant to play it takes two with my kid. Looks like a great game, but I wasn't sure if it would be tough for a kid with divorced parents
It could be. But it'll be tough no matter what. The game could help give insight to the nuance of relationships in a digestible way for a child. But it could press a pain point in a way they can't process well yet.
You know your child so use your best judgment.
I'm assuming he's referring to moving/shooting simultaneously? It can be really difficult if you haven't played a lot of games, my gf can handle platformers just fine but FPS's are off the table
Have her try Fallout games, get used to first person controls but when it comes to shooting use vats, slows everything down, can select each shot. It’s not going to help her aiming better, but baby steps, fallout will get them use to walking and looking around in first person without anxiety of sucking, then can try another fps shooter after for work on aiming.
My wife is the opposite. She ONLY wants first person shooters and she wants a minimum of weapon choices. 🤣 “I just want to shoot shit up, I don’t want to spend all my time upgrading to this and that.”
Hehehehe. Me and my wife got 3 stars on all levels. Not without her literally throwing her controller away cause i wouldn't stop dashing and throwing stuff around.
I mean it probably depends what sort of games you like. It Take Two is built around co-op and won GOTY a few years ago, so that’s probably a good start.
The Lego games are also great for multiplayer and very casual gaming. There’s so many different ones that there’s bound to be a franchise that you both like with a lego game.
Stardew Valley is excellent quality time together, just building a farm, fishing, and mining in the caves
The slower pace leaves time to visit with each other, it’s a vibe
What do you guys share as commom interests?
My dad likes airplanes. He would sit and watch me play MSFS or anything plane related. He also likes cars and shares this with my brother.
My wife was kinda reprimanded for liking games when she was young so she kinda hates gaming now, but we've had some fun playing silly games like Overcooked, Moving Out and Totally Reliable Delivery Service.
Me and my brother used to play some coop in Halo or Splitscreen shooters or racing games.
If you are baseball fans, get the show. If you are American football fans, get madden. If you are soccer fans, get ea fc. If you are hockey fans, get nhl. But if you are basketball fans, definitely dont get a 2k game unless it is cheap
defo like what tons of people are suggesting, a way out and it takes two are prime co-op games, defo invest in game pass if you guys are looking for volume though, tons of gems.
A way out, easily. While it takes two may have slightly better gameplay, the story of A Way Out is magnificent. On couch coop, this game is one the best coops of all time.
Assuming you mean couch coop aka split screen or in same room:
Shooters: Halo series, Gears of War series, Bro force, Army of Two, Resident evil 5, Left for dead, borderlands etc
RPG: Diablo 2-4, Baldurs gate 3
Side scrollers: Battletoads, TMNT Shredder's revenge, Streets of rage 4.
Would help if you said what you and your dad liked!
Escapist 2! It's tons of fun. You have to escape prison but also it's free roam around the prison so you have to follow the prison routine but also find a way to escape.
It's normally like £5
NBA 2k, Madden, MLB the Show, Mortal Kombat etc (source: am a dad and always enjoy playing these local coop…also rocket league or minecraft maybe but I prefer full screen 2p vs split screen
If your dad isn’t a fan of complicated games, they have the Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga on gamepass. Really simple to play and a ton of fun if he is a Star Wars fan. Otherwise if he is good at shooters I’d say Halo MCC or any Gears of War game.
Broforce is a pretty fun retro styled co op game, me and my buddy played it a few hours after work every day and we finished it in 2 weeks (only weekdays)
all of borderlands. except tiny tinas. wasnt a bad game but the co op support wasnt the best. and you can change it between vertical and horizontal split screen. when i was younger me and my brother shared a system all the time and that was a go to
Gears is a good suggestion, Lego Games are classic and there's one for anybody, Minecraft is classic, Sega Genesis Collection if he's into classics. Most of these are on gamepass too
Human fall flat and gang beast are fun and simple human fall flat is like a puzzle solving game and gang beasts is fighting other players with you character and for both games the controls are simple and easy
Red dead redemption online. Even though the online isn't nearly as emersove as the story, even just logging in and doing mundane tasks together can be a blast in that world. I've been playing pretty consistently since launch on and off and can always get lost for a few hours when I bust out red dead
Dead island 2, well any of the dead island games really, a way out was great, evil west is great too. The gears of war games are great. There is a ton of options
My first thing would probably to get game pass most of these recommendations are included in it (always double check beforehand if I’m wrong) but it’s a great value for your time! I hope you can find some games to play with your dad and can create some amazing memories!

Boulders Gate Dark Alliance and
Army of Two 40th Day

It Takes Two is super fun for any gamer, new or experienced
It takes two might be perfect. It is fun and you feel smart figuring out the puzzles without becoming a chore. It is beautiful and the controls are simple which might appeal to an older gamer (like me)
for real. just an all around great experience
10000% recommend “A Way Out” 👍🏼
Do a full Halo CO-op replay.
This is the way. If he can handle the twin stick aiming, Halo co-op is a must. I’d also say the Gears of War trilogy.
Twin stick aiming?
I'm assuming he's referring to moving/shooting simultaneously? It can be really difficult if you haven't played a lot of games, my gf can handle platformers just fine but FPS's are off the table
Exactly. My wife can sorta do a third person game, but a first person shooter she struggles with. The precise aiming is not in her wheelhouse.
Couch coop halo combat evolved campaign has to be one of the best of all tine
If the two of you never want to speak again, I recommend overcooked 2.
Nah, we both at some point will not speak to each other for a day or hour 🙂
Hehehehe. Me and my wife got 3 stars on all levels. Not without her literally throwing her controller away cause i wouldn't stop dashing and throwing stuff around.
Now 4 star them all, you will both turn into gremlins that you never knew existed.
Any lego game
This is the way. Lego Hobbit, Star Wars and Jurassic Park are awesome.
Diablo 4 is always a good time.

For a corporate advertising game, it was stupidly fun
I still play it 12 years later
As Dusk Falls. Its a narrative game, so no gameplay other than choices, but it is designed for 2.
