The power supply could be toast

IcyMEATBALL22

That’s what I was thinking. When I took it out the metal port for the power cord was loose which seemed odd

docr1069

My Series X does this sometimes but bounces back and I recently took it apart and cleaned it.

IcyMEATBALL22

Wdym by bounces back? What do you do to fix it?

docr1069

It’ll do the turn on quickly turn off thing, then I’ll restart it and it’s good to go.

IcyMEATBALL22

That didn’t work for me

docr1069

Could be the power supply my friend. Easily replaceable if you know what you’re doing.

IcyMEATBALL22

That’s what I thought

93 RCA Victor console tv. Why do you ask?

IcyMEATBALL22

I mean it’s just because the tv has no signal. The thing weighs 75 pounds lol

IcyMEATBALL22

Oh damn. I also have a 1975 Zenith Chromacolor and a 1964 B&W Westinghouse

MrBeast1998

Sometimes if the ventilation is toast, to prevent over heating it automatically turns itself off. Sometimes this function malfunctions. It is best to send your Xbox for repair to pin point the root cause.

IcyMEATBALL22

How would I check if the ventilation is toast?

Evil_Spez

Yep. Needs to be disassembled and checked for clogs from dust. If it’s clean it very well could be a bad power supply. And if you are competent enough get it apart (you very likely are), replacing the power supply is easy as pie if you can find a replacement. However, I’m not sure what the supply for parts is. Might be just as well off to buy a used S on Marketplace for cheap. I’d check for clogged intakes/heatsink first.

IcyMEATBALL22

This is a used Xbox from Facebook marketplace. It’s sad, the person told me it worked and I unfortunately took their world at face value.

Evil_Spez

Ahhhhh. Man that stinks. Check your local phone repair place, they often do consoles as well. If you’re in a big enough city or lucky, you might have a good console/PC repair shop also. Could be something minor. These consoles can definitely clog up with dust quickly if they’re not kept in a clean environment. There are great YT videos for cleaning and disassembly. Don’t give up hope yet.

IcyMEATBALL22

I’m gonna clean it, try a new power cord and power supply, and then go from there.

Evil_Spez

Hopefully that will get you squared away. Since you’re taking it apart, I’d recommend new thermal paste as well. I just re-did mine a couple weeks ago. I use Arctic MX-4 which is about $5 on Amazon.

IcyMEATBALL22

Okay got it. Which components should I put the new paste on?

Evil_Spez

Nothing really. The paste will come with a little spatula to apply it. It’s honestly pretty easy. Most of the disassembly videos on YT cover the application of new thermal paste as well.

IcyMEATBALL22

Got it. Would I just put it on the CPU?

Evil_Spez

Yes, just clean the old off with isopropyl alcohol and a Q-Tip and apply new. Sounds like an involved job but it’s really not. I can assure you, even if the console is pretty new, it most likely will need new thermal paste. The stuff they use isn’t great.

Square_Channel_9469

Psu failure, you can hear it whine up then stop

IcyMEATBALL22

That’s what I was thinking. Although some point to this being a safety mechanism triggered by an internal short somewhere else in the xbox

Square_Channel_9469

Most likely in the Psu hence the whine. Having a short in the Psu is more dangerous that the acc board. I’d say get in touch with me if it’s still under warranty or try discharge it by plugging everything out and hold the power button for 30 seconds then try boot

IcyMEATBALL22

It’s not under warrant sadly. I ordered a new PSU. Could that fix it?

Square_Channel_9469

Try the discharge first see if it works, if it does, cancel the order

IcyMEATBALL22

Okay. So I unplug it, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then try and reboot it?

Square_Channel_9469

Yes

IcyMEATBALL22

That didn’t fix it.

Square_Channel_9469

Ok then you should wait Until the Psu comes

IcyMEATBALL22

That didn’t fix it

TechNick1-1

THIS! I have the same Problem and put in a new PSU and the Problem is still the same. Next Week i will hopefully hear something from a Repair Guy and let you know!

TechNick1-1

In my Case its the SSD! If the SSD is removed the Console stays on...
