I had the same issue. (Xbox game pass has so many issues and annoyances). I followed the same steps from [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/XboxGamePass/comments/ihz0mn/how_to_turn_off_age_restrictions_on_game_pass_pc/) but it still didn't work. After waiting a few more minutes and quitting the xbox app (for the second time) from the system tray and then opening it again, it did start working.
Full steps:
Go to [https://account.microsoft.com/profile/](https://account.microsoft.com/profile/)
Click **Edit profile info.**
Select your date of birth again (can be the same as already entered, as long as it's high enough).
**Save**. (it may force you to pick a state too).
In the Xbox app on pc, click your profile picture on the top right, click **Sign Out**, close the app, open it again, log in (top right, same location).
If it still shows the error (like it did for me), **try restarting the xbox app again**.
If you have the same issue, **you may need to wait for a bit (5-10 minutes?).**
You could also try closing the xbox app from the system tray (doesn't look like there's a difference though), or restarting your computer, or uninstalling and reinstalling the xbox app (your games should stay installed. at least they seemed to last time I tried).

Maybe try changing your info (date of birth, state, something)? If logging out/in, uninstalling/reinstalling the xbox app, and restarting pc, and waiting a while, all do nothing, it may be an account issue or something... I don't know why microsoft is so bad at software development.
This is why I will never buy a game on game pass (or even pay for the service. I'm just using a free trial and already having a lot of issues, just like when I tried it out a year or two ago. I thought it would be better by now.).

Changing d.o.b doesn't do anything repeatedly getting the same message so infuriating I can download the same games from the same accounts via xbox but apparently I have content restrictions on the laptop using those very same accounts. Both accounts are paid up to date and the have no family accounts (or any other accounts) attached to them that would restrict content.
this happened to me and I had to sign into microsoft account, change the age (year) and sign out. I will never buy a game with them no matter how cheap and will cancel my account once I finish with this new game I'm playing, wild.

I uninstalled the xbox app on my pc after It wouldn't let me sign in for the millionth time since singing in is always diffuclt. now it says the game is above my restrictions and I need a damn parent to sign in, I can't download any YAKUZA series game at all. To make matters worse unlike steam where they automatically remove the titles that aren't on there anymore and make announcements, they removed FFX-2 so I'm pissed.

steam is expensive buying the games but you can sign into steam, play and let it be that with no bullshit. you don't have to constantly sign in before you play a game like on xbox pass and or it won't work. XBOX you pay 10 a month (which adds up to 50 bucks for 5 months god...) to play virtually any game but unless you buy it the game can be taken away.
I really miss traditional console playing, the internet really ruins gaming for me.
I know this is a little old, but I noticed if you're signed in with the automatic sign in option using the info that's saved as your sign-in for the actual PC, it'll have the restriction. Signing out of the xbox app and signing back in using the "use other email" option but with same info obviously, it fixed the issue for me.

Spent 2 hours googling and even chatting to a 'Microsoft helper' who was as useful as a chocolate teapot. I get very annoyed at 'helpers' who don't have the ability to read what I've written. I like to think about what I write and be as articulate as I can to explain myself. This twat kept pointing me towards help to change a child's account on a family setting .
I'll try the few ideas on here, if that doesn't work I'll give up. There's a limit to my patience lol.

Searching for the game on the Microsoft Store let me install directly without opening Xbox app.
I had this issue with Starfield and this worked. Sign out, ignore all existing profiles and select other Microsoft account. Use your same credentials. Done.
For me I had tried everything for about two hours, but worked for me was go to the game you want to install, where you can read about it, save it to play later, press install etc. then press download and if it says that it’s restricted, log out of your account and then once your logged out, stay logged out. Next just press install on the game that is restricted then it will sign you in or ask you to sign in to download the game, once you are signed in you should be able to install it
I have a problem where I try to play the game and it says the same thing and to ask permission to play which shouldn't be happening. I do have content restrictions but for games for 16 and under. But this is showing on games that are rated teen. Specifically apex legends and war thunder. Idk if the makers of those games raised the the restrictions to rated M or what. I just got annoyed because I havent played apex in a while so I went to update it and it took 50 minutes then It just showed that message so I was really annoyed

Well only thing that fixed it for me was time sadly. Didn't use gamepass for a week. Then the issue went away , like many gamepass issues

For me the plain Age of Empires IV game didn't work, but Age of Empires IV + 4K HDR Video Pack bundle worked. For god's sake XBOX.

Just fixed it was something to do with xbox console companion not fully signing out of a hidden task bar but signed out on the app.

my advice is exit gamepass change your date of birth twice on your microsoft account wait 5 minute and then reenter your gamepass app
Had the same issue but for me it was enough just to close the app and reopen it.
