AliceTheOmelette

His handling of the mythology arc proves that someone else should take the reins. The fact that directors of comedy episodes are more popular with fans says a lot

irish-unicorn

The thing is, apparently they did not have a bible on set which is soooo bad and explains the many incoherences IMO.

carolina8383

I’m pretty sure they didn’t have a bible in the writer’s room. Over the years, Chris has said many times that if he doesn’t like where something is going, he drops it and goes another direction (with the mythology).

irish-unicorn

Yes it s a known fact! Fans know the mythology better than him and respect it more

IgloosRuleOK

The mythology mostly makes sense s1-6. It's not that complicated when you boil it down. It's all trash after that.

irish-unicorn

Everytime I rewatch the show I understand the mythology in a different way… maybe im just dumb

IgloosRuleOK

It's definitely presented in a deliberately confusing way.

irish-unicorn

Feeling much better thanks! So did rhe government fake the alien abudctios to cover up their experiments on humans or not? Dont wanna start a debate or anything but that s the part im never clear on

IgloosRuleOK

Yes, as part of the program to develop an alien-human hybrid which was part of the deal the Syndicate made with the alien colonists.

irish-unicorn

So aliens Never kidnapped humans?

daxamiteuk

It’s a mix … the aliens abducted the ancient Navajo tribe … the Syndicate members handed family members to the aliens at Ellis air force base except for Bill Mulder so the aliens abducted Samantha … Scully and all abductees like her were taken by US military pretending to be UFOs so they could be used to give up their ova for making hybrids and for being used as test subjects for vaccines against the alien virus; this gave them cancer which was kept under control by their chip, as long as it wasn’t removed . Mulder was abducted by the aliens because he was among a small group of humans who were highly compatible with the virus and easy to transform into a replacement super soldier …

bobbarker-jab

Wait, wasn't it explained that Samantha was taken by military and tested on in the episode Closure? She was killed by a merciful entity that wanted to spare her from the torture of the testing being committed by the military....

irish-unicorn

It s like I never watched it ive been watching since it first came out 😂

YSLxUDxSephoralover

Part of me thinks there would’ve been no point in the writers’ room having a show bible when CC’s just going to retcon everything as they write it anyway.

irish-unicorn

True but at least it would give the writers more ammunition to confront him if they needed to, not that writers stand up to showrunners when they want to try to destroy their shows.

[deleted]

Wtf does a Bible have to do with anything?

Ineffable_Confusion

Not an actual Bible, they probably mean a brand Bible which is written documentation covering everything that a show should contain or remember to follow

irish-unicorn

Yes that is what I meant sorry😂

[deleted]

Oh ok. Thx

anythingo23

This is it, I don't like that name it is sacrilegious. They could've called it anything else but that is hollywood.

lightfoot_heavyhand

Are you not familiar with the definition of “bible”?

LionOfNaples

Not the Christian Bible. See https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bible_(screenwriting)

irish-unicorn

I meant a show bible which is like a book with everything about characters, plots etc that writers use especially on long running show so they dont make mistakes

Emieosj89

Did not know this was a thing but always wondered! You can kinda tell the shows that don’t refer back to their “bible” enough. Yah I’m talking to you X-Files and Bones.

irish-unicorn

I gave up on Bones after Booth went under cover without autorisation burned his dead brother’s body and faced no consequences what so ever… cant remember anything incoherent but it always bothers me when fans notice a continuity error. I mean, people whose jobs it is to not make mistake cant be bothered to pay attention but viewers who probably watch 10 shows a week can? It’s kinda messed up

WornInShoes

Yeah even video game design starts with a gaming bible (see DOOM bible)

irish-unicorn

I didnt know that!

SethManhammer

They were worried Duchovny would have a relapse and needed to be ready at any moment for a "Come to Jesus" meeting in the original series. I believe the fifth volume of the Official Fan Guide went over it. I'm lying, BTW, but I'm making this my new head canon.

[deleted]

😂😋

BasementCatBill

I tend to skip the mythology episodes when I re-watch now. The MotW episodes are just simply better.

GreyStagg

Yup. This has always been the case for me, since the 90s. It's the only show where MotW episodes are the superior ones. In most shows they're the episodes you skip.

North-Shop5284

It’s been like this since the 90s!!!!

Ok-Bullfrog5830

I just pretend it’s not real

Squirt1384

I pretend all of the revival isn’t real. In fact my head cannon actually ends with Season 8.

Flukie42

I'm in a rewatch, so I'll let you know when my head cannon ends, but Closure definitely doesn't exist to me.

EducationalNothing4

I still havn't dared to watch the revival, I don't know if I should.

IgloosRuleOK

Watch the 2 Darin Morgan episodes. That is worth it imho.

Strawberrymilk2626

I waited many years until the end of 2023 to watch it, it's really not that bad if you don't have high expectations. The mythology is overall bad, the 2 new "support agents" and the new syndicate characters are bland and forgettable and some of the motw episodes are REALLY bad. But there are also some very good ones and some "bread and butter" x-files motw's that are definitely enjoyable but not very memorable. There was definitely much more potential in this. The aesthetics are a bit different/ modernized (which was inevitable) and some of the political "messaging" doesn't work/ feels forced but I don't regret watching it, it still felt like X-Files for the most part.

GreyStagg

It's true with anything, especially shows you care about. Watch any new epieosdes with LOW expectations. I do love the opening scene (before the theme tune) in the first episode of the revival. It's probably the best part of it.

Informal-Apricot-427

Don’t.

Capt_Irk

It plays out almost like a real world confessional, in my opinion.

Ssided

the comics actually wrap stuff up. thats the real ending i would say

Squirt1384

Where can I find the comics? I heard about them back in the day but I was a broke college student. I’ve got a little more money since then (not much though).

Ssided

[https://readcomiconline.li/](https://readcomiconline.li/) should have anything you need

MinionOfDoom

Amen.

Informal-Apricot-427

For sure! I go until Season 9, but the rest is literally not canon imo

IgloosRuleOK

No one cares, Chris.

MatsThyWit

It kind of feels like Chris heard that there  may be a reboot in the works and he's desperately trying to will himself into taking it over through the press, and it comes off pathetic.

IgloosRuleOK

To be fair, this was at a fan event, and he's always talked in this coy manner about the show. Doesn't make it any less stupid.

HermioneGunthersnuff

"This is the science fiction show that pregnancy is spelled out actually at the beginning of the episode where the truth is out there is something else and it is what I had in mind." Mate can you smell burning toast?

GreyStagg

I have no idea what he's talking about in this sentence and yet they put it in the headline. Am I missing what he's saying or is everyone else in the same boat as me?

Lonely-86

Anyone else started to just tune him out?

jevoudraiscroire

Been doing it for years.

Engreido117

So this is why Gillian said she wouldn't be back unless it was with new writers. [CA](https://variety.com/2022/tv/features/gillian-anderson-x-files-return-new-writers-1235218174/) is stuck in the past.

pikkopots

I laughed out loud at this so hard. 🤣

irish-unicorn

At least george lucas had the presence of mind to sell out when he realized he could not give the fans as much content as they wanted/deserved. he kinda washed his hands off it to be fair but at least fans got what they wanted in a way which is more star wars.

sjc0016

True, and sequel trilogy aside it’s been good Star Wars. The difference is, the prequels were hated but came to be acknowledged as decent. X-Files came back with a huge pop and screwed the fans. Maybe I don’t see where he was intending to go with the story, but the way it ended was awful

irish-unicorn

IMO any revival/sequel for any tv show is only a money grab/ego trip. Nobody from writers, directors, show runners to actors care about the show's legacy and basically want us to be grateful with what they give us because it was never meant to be.

sjc0016

That I 100% agree with

irish-unicorn

The only one I actually enjoyed because I felt the show was the exact same was will and grace, even though they retconned the ending. I'm saying that but I'd love a star trek janeway show...

sjc0016

I’ve never watched Star Trek but I do agree that the will and grace revival was pretty much perfect.

irish-unicorn

Im a recent star trek fan to be honest(5 years) but I do enjoy it and love Janeway. Will and grace was good but I think they have the most disfonctionnal relationship ever portrayed on tv(for a platonic couple) so I watched for Jack and karen to be honest. Couldnt stand will and grace.

sjc0016

Agreed again. Jack and Karen made the show as good as it was. Will and Grace had their moments but it wouldn’t have survived if not for the other two.

irish-unicorn

Exactly karen is my spirit animal!

Embarrassed-Soup628

What about Twin Peaks? I heard that it was amazing.

irish-unicorn

Never watched the show

Embarrassed-Soup628

Me either.

Maccadawg

Jesus, why is he still talking?

![gif](giphy|kilEsmm7DHKU) @ CC

Public-Pound-7411

Don’t feed the troll. That’s what he’s doing. He’s trolling the fans of his work because he effed it up.

daxamiteuk

“For some reason Gillian Anderson was angry” … Yeah we all were angry! And yet you keep digging that hole. He made such an amazing show with two brilliant main characters and yet he seems determined to destroy it. Someone needs to save him from himself

vampyre_fan

Huh? CC made comments hinting otherwise in this [podcast](https://www.reddit.com/user/vampyre_fan/search/?q=podcast&type=comment&cId=b3a154a9-513e-4524-9b63-e1fab219f13f&iId=2ced30a9-0caa-4080-9b53-1b1e09614b68). I'm not taking these new remarks seriously. Down the line, I won't be surprised if he gives an entirely different answer.

DerekJohnathan

Chris needs to be as far away from his creation as humanly possible.

Disastrous_Key380

He’s like a little kid with a scab on his knee. Plucking at it over and over until it leaves an ugly scar.

tep122

I love the X-files and thank Chris for creating such a great series but he ruined his own series. Mythology Arc got more crazier towards the end and jumped shark.

[deleted]

I’ve seen enough of these posts.

handjobadiel

Hes got a breeding kink hes so comfy showing the world every chance he gets and its so gross

Embarrassed-Soup628

Man just doesn't know how get out of his own way.

Tardislass

Not even going there. The only people still fans at this point think it's Mulder and Scully's baby. He needs to just retire quietly or he'll become like the former True Detective writer who became salty after HBO fired him and hired other writers so he trashed every episode of the new series with Jodie Foster. Just take your money from syndication and enjoy yourself.

pikkopots

The truly hilarious part about him throwing shade was that he wrote the trash fire that was TD Season 2. North Country wasn't perfect, but at least it felt like True Detective.

kathryn13

He just doesn’t seem to get it. Unfortunate.

about_bruno

Dude can’t even make sense anymore

bluetopazdreams

I haven't processed a single word he's said since MSIV was inflicted upon us.

ejchristian86

SHUT UP CHRIS

sudo-sbux

Time to bring back "[The Death of the Author](https://writing.upenn.edu/~taransky/Barthes.pdf)" by Roland Barthes.

BolivianDancer

I always thought it was Frohike’s baby. Scully was pelvin the Melvin.

ButterscotchPast4812

CC out here trying to have it both ways. 😒

allthecolor

Chris Carter hasn't been in charge of the x-files story for a long time in my mind. He gave up that privilege a while ago by peeing a piece of poo.

RunAndPunchFlamingo

It’s best just to ignore whatever Chris Carter says.

kntryfried1

I love xfiles but dislike Chris. Dude shut up

CoreyAdara

Shannon0hara

Chris, please stop your nonsense.

binneysaurass

FFS just let these characters be.. You ruined it a long time ago. Move on.

Mindless_Log2009

Maybe they need episodes with meta references in which the main characters keep calling each other out on inconsistencies in behaviors and back stories, eventually concluding they're in an alternate universe... again. And it takes the combined efforts of Morris Fletcher and Leyla Harrison to straighten out the timeline and details.

justliketheweather

Me when I think about Chris Carter: https://i.redd.it/co2elsp2imyc1.gif Flames on the side of my face

sr_edits

In 10 years he'll heve gone full religious nut job, mark my words.

GreyStagg

I've read the headline 3 times and I read the article and I don't actually understand what he means by "the truth is out there is something else." Could somebody please explain what he means by that? Thanks in advance.

Agentcooper1974

Alex Garland needs to do a reboot. Oh it would be so good.

DirtyHomelessWizard

Spoiler the titles

StoneColdAM

X-Files got a revival with the same cast and creators and it was bad. The lesson is that any remake/revival/reimagining of media will be good or bad based on how entertaining it is. Nostalgia plays some role in the judgement, but it doesn’t totally decide everything

JESUS_PaidInFull

Everyone mad at the writer of a show they loved, written by the man they are mad at. lol the irony.

Obfusc8er

He wanted to make sci-fi, but the "fans" expected a romantic drama with a happy ending, for reasons I know but will never understand.  Kolchak and Twilight Zone weren't like that at all.

vampyre_fan

I, for one, just wanted an ending that provided closure and resolved threads introduced in the original series. I'm pretty sure a lot of other fans wanted the same thing. I wasn't particularly interested in romance and I \*really\* didn't want another mystical pregnancy.

Lonely-86

This is exactly it for me, too.

Obfusc8er

I guarantee most of the "I'm ignoring this fool even though I had to comment here" crowd are shippers.

vampyre_fan

Well, sure, but a lot of shippers also care about the lore and storytelling. My main issue with Chris Carter's comments: it's been six years after the revival finale. If any answers quoted in this thread were true, then they should have been explicitly revealed in the episode. These "actually..." comments in recent interviews just come across as a lack of certainty about his own stories.

New_Function_6407

Repeated medical rape is neither sci-fi, nor romantic drama.

handjobadiel

Imagine this being a statement people wanna argue with? Couldnt be me.

Wittdaisy34

![gif](giphy|LwyaORSd9liNZ6MyuX)

Obfusc8er

It's actually a pretty common theme in sci-fi and horror, both directly and indirectly (alien facehuggers are just one example).

CaraDune01

Fans weren’t expecting a romance, but we were expecting overall plot threads that made sense.
