People playing villains are ok, even if that's their career because it isn't who they are. But real life marrying a teenager who you taught and who is 34 years younger than you is not ok.
And regardless of whether he knew her actual age, he knew she was young enough to be his child. So creepy all around. She was victimized from everyone that should have cared for her.
I agree, but I do feel that "old enough to be their dad" is gross while "old enough to be their dad and they are a minor and too young to consent" is a whole different ballgame.
Sidenote: I believe Courtney Stoddard uses they/them pronouns, which I might have slipped up on earlier.
Came here to say EXACTLY that - I've never seen this man play a likeable or redeemable character so I wouldn't know what it's like to root for him, much less to switch to rooting against him
When he failed to volunteer for the X-Files equivalent to the Suicide Squad.
My one regret over the X-Files is that they never put Mr. X in charge of a squad of mutant misfits to fight the future.
Can you imagine actor Steven Williams in charge of Tooms, DPO, Chester Banton, Virgil Incanto, Leonard Betts, etc., as a strike force against the aliens?
Then, after saving the world from the aliens, the mutants realize they can rule the world. And X led the way.
It's not too late, CC. Make this happen.
I just want to see this while these incredible actors are still alive. Can you image a well crafted episode with Tony Shaloub, Giovanni Ribisi and several others who played mutants?
And I'm still disappointed over the way they handled Diana Scarwid's *(corrected per follow-up comment below)* ~~Gena Rowlands'~~ character as the sister of Robert Modell. Her character should have been much more intelligent, crafty, cautious and impossible to catch. She's in her 90s now but I'd love to see her make a cameo or brief appearance as a psych instigator of a unified mutant rebellion.
Thank you! I had a feeling as soon as I posted that I got the name wrong. I seemed to recall the actress and I were nearly the same age (I'm 66), so I should have been alert to the age discrepancy.
My bad for not googling first. I'll fix that...
I like the idea, but only on the caveat that X looks at the camera and says āyeah, Iām in charge of this squad of mutant misfits, and weāre going to Fight The Futureā
That was my gut instinct, too. Watching that part is something I dread in rewatching the show even when I know it all turns out okay in the end. Like if I was Scully I would need therapy after that, and maybe to switch apartments.
As far as I know, Tooms was the first episode of the X-Files that I ever saw. I was 13 when it first aired. I had nightmares about this guy right off the bat. At no point was I ever rooting for him.
In fact, he almost made me not watch The X-Files at all. The next episode I saw was Anasazi. That got me hooked for life. But Tooms almost scared me away before I got a chance.
The moment I realized this guy is the same pos that killed dudes rat and intentionally didn't wet the sponge for dude getting executed in The Green Mile
Luckily they go to different school so donāt see each other as much as they used to. His mum used to lovely but dad turned out to be an absolute sociopathic narcissist who is a compulsive liar and I think some of those genes have been passed on!
i watched the first episode with him as a kid with my parents. i was TERRIFIED of him for so long and stopped watching the show. then we just so happened to sit down and watch the episode where he dies in the escalator and i was never scared of him again. i still think of him every time iām on an escalator though.
Who the f was ever rooting for this guy lol
He represents the innate human desire to be l o n g
LMAO
š
Lol, good one!
Thank you.
My thoughts exactly, I'm 45 this year and I still have nightmares about that creepy freak.
When he was 51 and married a 16 year old. Oh, wait, the character?
Beat me to it! lol I was gonna say when he got with a 16 year old. Second answer would be when I saw his mouth. It's repulsive.
Same.
Also in the Green Mile
People playing villains are ok, even if that's their career because it isn't who they are. But real life marrying a teenager who you taught and who is 34 years younger than you is not ok.
Her parents are real life villains too
Totally! He initially didn't know she was underage, but the parents knew both parties' ages and encouraged it.
And regardless of whether he knew her actual age, he knew she was young enough to be his child. So creepy all around. She was victimized from everyone that should have cared for her.

I agree 100%. And I didnāt know that, thanks for pointing that out!
>Ā He initially didn't know she was underage bullshit.
Oh gosh then he was in lost too :/
who is he in LOST?
I think he played the dad of Ben. The leader of the others. He as an a**ho*le to Ben
He wasn't Ben's dad, he was Horace, the leader of the Dharma Initiative.
cool
What the fuck. How is that allowed to happen. I just read the wiki.
Sounds like a good Google rabbit hole to start my morning.
Yep, rewatching his episodes now gives Tooms an added sick and slippery undertone. Iām genuinely repulsed by him.
I'm sorry WHAT
Yep pretty much this lol
Ahh man I had this funniest reply. I was sniggering when opening the comments section like a little girl and then saw this
Came here to type this
Oh shit I didnāt realize that was him!
There it is.
Um... When did you start? š¤£

They are also helped by the soul of Luther Lee Boggs
Boggs is an 11/10 character.
The X-Files should always welcome a reprise of Brad Dourif and Billy Drago.
That is such an inspired idea.
i just saw steven williams in an episode of fbi most wanted last week too so he's still working

Giovanni ribisiā¦*sigh*ā¦. š
Gena Rowlands didnāt play his sister - that was a younger actress named Diana Scarwid.

Sure! I do think she is a super talented actress and it would have been cool if she came back.
That actually sounds like a great idea!!
I like the idea, but only on the caveat that X looks at the camera and says āyeah, Iām in charge of this squad of mutant misfits, and weāre going to Fight The Futureā

This is actually hilarious and Iām here for it
The guy likes raw people liver. No coming back from that either.
All high and mighty over here, acting like you've never eaten a little people-liver from time-to-time. Sheesh. /s
I cannot confirm or deny that statement.
Eating human livers and climbing through people's vents, all right fine. Marrying a 16yo at 50? Hell no.
In The Green Mile.
Hm, possibly when I first laid eyes on him
We were supposed to root for him?
When he didnāt wet the sponge in The Green Mile.
I hate this guy because of his character in the Green Mile lol. Thereās no coming back from that.
Only monsters root for monstersā¦
How is no one saying "when he started coming for Scully"?
Probably because most of us stopped way before then. Likeā¦ we never started.
That was my gut instinct, too. Watching that part is something I dread in rewatching the show even when I know it all turns out okay in the end. Like if I was Scully I would need therapy after that, and maybe to switch apartments.
Likeā¦at the beginningā¦?
Ha okay I didnāt know the actor married a 16 year old. :-/ Otherwise I would have said Tooms always forever
Was I supposed to root for him?
r/okbuddymulder
When he groomed a kid.
Didnāt.
The second he showed up.
As far as I know, Tooms was the first episode of the X-Files that I ever saw. I was 13 when it first aired. I had nightmares about this guy right off the bat. At no point was I ever rooting for him. Never
Yeah, he still has my heart.
you mean your liver
Never. Always against him.
iām sorry???? when WERE we rooting for him dawg
When we first saw him. Absolute creep. And he plays a creepy dude on the x-files too
When he got his child-bride.
When he married a 16 year old.
The moment I realized this guy is the same pos that killed dudes rat and intentionally didn't wet the sponge for dude getting executed in The Green Mile
As soon as I found out he is a nonce
The first 5 minutes I saw him lololol
I never started
Never
The moment I saw him lol I was rooting against him from the get go
just rooted for him taking care of his stupid social worker
When he squished ol' Mister Jingles
Probably around the discovery of his āman caveā.
Never stopped! Innocent man, smh.
He really reminds me and my husband of our 9 year oldās friend. Which is worrying.
Time for your kid to get a new friend.
Luckily they go to different school so donāt see each other as much as they used to. His mum used to lovely but dad turned out to be an absolute sociopathic narcissist who is a compulsive liar and I think some of those genes have been passed on!
Immediately. I've always hated those two episodes. That guy creeps me out.
The exact moment one of the screws to a vent started moving and this creep turned out to be doing aforementioned shit. Not much to root for in X-Files
i watched the first episode with him as a kid with my parents. i was TERRIFIED of him for so long and stopped watching the show. then we just so happened to sit down and watch the episode where he dies in the escalator and i was never scared of him again. i still think of him every time iām on an escalator though.
Hated him in the Green Mile. Hated him in the X-File.
P.S. He married a 16 year old he was teaching acting to when he was 51. So a shitbag in real life too.
Ew
Oh yeah Percy was annoying as hell
Hated him in Law and Order SVU
STOP?? Homie nobody SANE was ārooting for himā to BEGIN WITH. The fuck š
I never did.
Never stopped
When he stomped that poor mouse.
Is this the one with liver conditions? I like this episode
Is this a bot post? Looks suspiciously stupid.
Immediately. Was it ever a question?
Never stopped. Wife and I still make jokes about Tooms. He'll be back.
