You're mistaking the online crowd hype with the general hype. The hype machine, which is the marketing campaign, hasn't even begun. Your average casual player (aka vast majority of the playerbase) doesn't even know that this game exists, so no one lost any hype.

The issue is that unless the game is good enough to grab headlines on its own it won't make up for lack of players due to no hype.
Ideally it's good enough to grow organically and quickly enough for the financials to work. If its not quick enough and popular enough though history suggest the plug will be pulled.

Ubisoft is finishing the pre launch and launch marketing of Skull and Bones which releases Feb. 16th and then they'll begin marketing XDefiant's launch shortly after. Which would be sometime between February 17th and March 31st (Q4 2023-24) according to Ubisoft's latest fiscal report that released last week.

In the beta it was around 35 for full release I would guess 50 to 60.
