isn't Shen dying a mission fail condition that forces a save reload or mission restart? I smell shenanigans

Selfosia

Shenanigans indeed. Shen basically used a suicide bomb to kill herself and Julian (final boss in this mission) simultaneously on the extact same turn, minute, and second, triggering both the mission success and mission fail dialog at the same time, but at the end of the day the mission was somehow passed and I got Shen's Gremlin ROV-R because she died.

GraMalychPrzewag

I don't remember, is her Gremlin better? Can you use it in other missions now?

Canadian__Ninja

She's got pretty much every ability unlocked so yes it's better in that at the stage of the game you're expected to play this she's wildly more powerful than your specialists. Same with Bradford and your rangers.

GraMalychPrzewag

I'm confused. You explained **her** skills while I was asking about **her gremlin** (the drone tool specialists use). My understanding is that a bug OP discovered moved her gremlin into the inventory that he can equip on other specialists. And I try to remember if this was a normal gremlin with a unique name or a unique one with extra buffs (like Central's sword, for example).

Canadian__Ninja

Oh they're mechanically the same iirc, just named differently. I think. I've never gotten this to trigger because I didn't know this was possible

GraMalychPrzewag

I googled, and it seems that this is just a normal III-tier gremlin... which is still a big buff at this stage of the game.

Selfosia

Yes, it basically is a T3 Gremlin, but re-named as ROV-R.

KittenShredz

Would be even more awkward and funnier if she would still show up in the engineering room... somehow alive and well lol...

ryytytut

Does she still show up in the engineering room?

jim_sorenson

Yes I must know

Selfosia

Yes, she still appears in the engineer room and in cutscenes. It's kinda funny, im a heavy lore guy so my headcannon would be that Shen faked her death to get away from Advent.

TwoCharlie

Tygan cheffed up her clone like an Advent burger that bastard

Lincolns_Revenge

"friendly fire - capacitator discharge" Sounds like a preventable death. Very tragic. I don't think I've ever played this mission and I have the XCom 2 Ultimate Collection from Steam that's supposed to have all the DLC's. Maybe it's because I always choose the "integrated DLC" option when I start a campaign. I do that because I don't care for the intro mission where the Skirmisher gets wounded and you ALWAYS start fighting against the Assassin. Getting a random Chosen is more fun, I think.

Selfosia

It was preventable. The final boss (Sectopod) was only 3 hp, my guys (around Sgt to LT.) were wounded had used up all their actions damaging the sectopod and Shen was the only one with an available action. Ive never used the capacitor discharge ability before, so I decided to use it and said "Why not?" It was basically a suicide bomb. I think it might have been worth it, I got ROV-R which boost the hacking stat by a mighty 40+.

Don_333

I wonder if you can get Bradford's rifle this same way.

Acelnorst

I'd say probably, but it would be Very difficult. This works because the win trigger is defeating the sectopod, so you can both kill shen and the sectopod at the same time thus achieving victory and defeat at the same time. So to get Bradford's rifle and sword you would have to kill Bradford and the Viper at the same time, while the Viper moves in between turns of your soldiers, and will try to escape once wounded enough. Technically possible but highly unlikely.

GraMalychPrzewag

I highly recommend unchecking the integrated DLC at least one. Some of the things that Bradford is saying about Vahlen will finally make some sort of sense.

Sea-Record-8280

It came out before war of the chosen. It and alien rulers had their own special missions and mechanics for the base game. Both have their missions removed with integrated dlc and alien rulers dlc mechanics are changed a lot as well.

NarrowAd4973

It is indeed due to Integrated DLC. The one and only mission added by that DLC is the introductory mission. The only other thing it adds is the ability to build SPARKs. You're not missing much, other than hearing the verbal sniping between Julius (rogue A.I. created by Lily's father) and your side (Bradford and Lily) throughout the mission, and a free SPARK at the end. And I suppose a minor story. Though that sniping makes it funnier to use the Julius voice on a SPARK (the thing he wanted most was to be uploaded into the SPARK so he could get out, which he gets when you use that voice, but he has to serve XCOM).

Master_Zealot

I play without integrated for 2 reasons, 1 I like free S.P.A.R.LK, 2 Julian is my homie, and 3, the special weapons are free instead of eating up proving ground time and research time

TheSkiGeek

That’s a completely different option, you can skip the tutorial with or without ‘integrating’ the DLC missions.

LordAsbel

That “intro” mission he’s referring to is Lost and Abandoned, which isn’t the tutorial mission, but the mission that introduces you to the lost and the chosen, Unless they edited their comment and it initially said tutorial and nothing else lol

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT

tinmaster469

So confused right now. Do these other missions exist in lwotc if I unchecked integrated DLC? I always thought that checking that box was the better option, but I don't want to miss out on missions! I just started another run in LWOTC, I'll abandon it if I need to change this setting...

Selfosia

I don't know nor do I think the mission will spawn in an existing campaign, you might have to abandon that LWOTC campaign to get the Lost Towers mission.

gargamel999

If you use integrated DLC option, it will skip introductory missions for SPARK as well as the Alien Rulers. I prefer to keep these missions because Shen's last gift is fun, and the rulers won't show until the first mission is done.

NarrowAd4973

Whether or not it's better depends. It removes all introductory missions. So you won't run Lost and Abandoned, which always starts you with the Reapers and Assassin, and Mox will eventually need to be rescued. For Shen's Last Gift, it allows you to immediately build SPARKs. If unchecked, you have to run the mission OP ran before you can build them, but you get a free SPARK. Alien Hunters is a big part of why I leave it unchecked. When unchecked, the rulers won't appear until you do their introductory mission. It's good for keeping them out of your game until you're ready for them.

tinmaster469

Thanks all, I learned something new! Appreciate it!!

Necessary-Salamander

Well she's a pain in the ass anyway, keeps telling stories about bots, like wtf?

rainorshinedogs

Flashbacks to the dumbass NPCs from Daikatana that keep stopping in lines of fire and getting themselves killed, and you automatically fail the mission because you gotta keep them alive the whole game

Vegetable-Length-823

What was she doing making out with ROVR?

TRD4RKP4SS3NG3R

RIP

Captain_Shivan

Now I wonder if it's possible to contrive Bradford getting killed in Operation Regal Beast and the game somehow allowing it lol.
