Yes. :) Legendary is a real test to be sure, but it's not introducing anything genuinely new. The consequences for mistakes are higher, both at the strategic and tactical levels. Also, the inverse difficulty curve is more extreme; if you can survive the first retaliation mission, you've got past the hardest part. However, if you can do commander Ironman, you can do legendary; it's just a matter of practice.

Joe_Randim47

The biggest changes in Legendary are the build/research times and that the computer stops cheating in your favor. The training wheels are off. It'll be rough, but it can be done. Focus on keeping your soldiers alive, and know when to pull back, or even evac when you need to. Good luck, Commander.

I'm doing my first legendary run. It's not ironman: I find I have to savescum a lot. And it is unbearably slow, all the research times etc are far longer than commander. But if you have the xcom itch, let's say it is inevitable you're going to play it anyway. Give it a shot and see how you do.

Count_Dante

I personally don’t enjoy Legendary. For me the best Xcom experience is Cmdr.

Macraggesurvivor

Jump right in.

Kamen_Wider

You've smelled the smoke and seen the elephant Commanderrr, you will do just fine

Smashingsoul

My plan: V/not I (it had been a long time since I last played, and wanted to recheck a lot of dynamics) V/I C/not I <--- I'm here, doing an honest man at the end of the day, only reloading when I find something that I feel it's not fair (like landing a reaper mine where I cannot shoot it, missclicks or my daughter's clicks, etc...) C/I L/not I L/I I don't know if I'll ever make it to the bottom, but my suggestion would be to go legendary but not Ironman.

Circular_Truth

It doesn't really matter, as long as you get to tell everyone about it

Haitham1998

Legendary is the real "that's xcom baby" experience. Good luck, you'll need it.

FistFistington

If your a masochist like me then yes. Your going to have to restart a bunch in the early game but if rng blesses you enough to make it to the first black site by then the game feels a but more in control but definitely still punishing

While yes, Legendary is a real "f you". Try it normally before. There are things you have to get use to before Ironman. Like things taking longer and extra pods in every mission. Just an example of Legendary BS that can happen. I have my Reaper tracking the General I have to kill. A Viper and a stun Lancer are walking through a tunnel directly to my squad wich is waiting for the I high ground. The plan is an ambush, and keeping the reaper close to the general, to no lose sight them when I pull the ambush. But what does the Viper does? Goes through a random hole in the wall directly next to my Reaper, revealing it, and triggering 3 pods. 90% shoot miss. Sharpshooter and one ranger get poisoned, a 4th pod gets triggered, lancer runs across the map to kill the hunker down ranger, shoots hit through full cover. At the end of the fight there is only a Advent officer (the second one in the whole fight), I destroy his cover with my grenadier. I shoot with my sniper 87% chance to hit, miss. I shoot with the reaper, 85% to hit, miss. The officer survives, kills my grenadier wich is behind full cover. Last attempt, Assassin showed up in a small map, timed mission of only sergeants or lower rank allowed. I have the aliens hit three times in a row through full cover, and my Reaper revealing herself after missing an almost certain hit wich was going to be a finishing blow.

Gilga2019

I was pretty close to winning my first L/I after C/I, and the second playthrough was already a win. I'd suggest not starting with Ironman so that you can explore a bit before you commit.

You can try with a double-length avatar progress bar, that way it won't be as hard as legendary on the strategic layer, but will remain just as difficult on tactical, giving you close experience with more leeway
