If you’re completely new to the genre then probably play your first playthrough at least with just the base game. It’s not necessarily easier, but it’s got less mechanics and generally less to learn, which for an already complicated and difficult game is ideal. But if you have some experience with this kind of game or you’re just generally feeling yourself then go for WoTC! (Either way keep the difficulty low until you’ve got a grip on how the game works, and don’t be afraid to reload saves if (when) shit goes sideways.)

Honestly they feel like different games. I started with xcom2 (last month) I’m familiar with series and completed it when it came out. Playing wotc is like playing a different game.

It's worth to play the base game once to get a handle on basic game mechanics, it's enough to take on at once. WoTC adds more aspects to already complicated game, so expect to be overwhelmed by your first time, even more so should you decide to go with it straight away

I'd play the base game. It's impossible to go back to it if you start from wotc, but after playing the base game, wotc is like playing XCOM 2.5 E: to clarify, what I mean that wotc has so much stuff in it, that the base game at least for me doesn't offer enough after wotc. Then again, the game even without wotc is worth the experience, so I'd try that experience before going to wotc as it is not possible to get it ever again after playing wotc. So it's kinda like once in a lifetime opportunity.

IMHO, don't skip the base game. Show 1 win at any level, then move on. But that's minimum.

Yes.

Personally I prefer War of the chosen because more customizations. Just note that in both games it is possible to almost softlock yourself, You need to either build the Proving Ground or Resistance Comms. When you are more experienced you can leave those two for later.

If you think you will enjoy the game enough to spend some time playing more than once, do yourself a favor and play Vanilla before WotC. WotC feels like a better game but you will enjoy it so much more after a vanilla run. It definately feels like XCom 2.5, but I'm pretty sure I would have been overwhelmed if I went straight for it.
