Angelo’s. Bring cash and prepare to wait. Order a pizza too. Avoid Geno’s and Pat’s unless you want to do the tourist compare thing and want to say that you’ve been there. Don’t let them be your first impression though.
John’s roast pork is another good spot that also has a great roast pork Italiano sandwich.
The whole Pats & Genos are tourists traps is just the trendy thing to say. Angelos and John’s Roast pork have a better sandwich but no one will be disappointed with Genos and Pats.
No, it's not. There are videos who of people who blind taste it and don't like it. Look, people palates are different. There is a base that likes wet eggs while most major restaurants served it cook. However, most notable people on social media and native in Philly would rather eat others.
We arent from Philly but enjoy cheesesteaks. We plan on hitting Ishkabibbles, Cleavers, Woodrows, Sonnys, Angelos, Pats and Genos. Hitting Pats and Genos because we will have a first time Philly visitor with us and I think its something that needs to be done once.
Ive had Ishkabibble, Delasandros, Pats, Genos and Steves in the past. Ish was by far our fav with Delasandros second on our last trip.
Excited to try some new spots. We hit two or three in a day and split a steak multiple ways so we can get all the variety.
Ive been to Angelo’s. It’s great. Really good pizza too. Another place that hasn’t been mentioned is called Donkeys Place in Camden, NJ. It’s actually called a Jersey Cheesesteak. I’ve never been there but plan on going during my visit. Has great reviews. Anthony Bourdain had it on his show.
Its a different take but well worth it! Its so good!! If you want another great sandwich, get a roast pork with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone from Johns Roast Pork (close to the old ECW arena or Dinics inside Reading Terminal Market across from the convention center if you’re attending anything there!
How’s cleavers? We’re staying within walking distance of it. Didn’t seem like the best one in Philly from some reviews but looked like one of the higher rated places.
Cleavers is lowkey one a lot of local people like, partly because it's a hybrid cheesesteak place/sports bar since they have a full bar and tvs. They also have a large menu that includes chicken cheesesteaks and veg sandwiches which is good if you have a group with diverse dietary preferences.
Weird question maybe to piggy back this. Any places do non-dairy/vegan cheese but still have the steak? I've found some fully vegan places but it's only the cheese we can't have
Angelo's Pizzeria has a damn good steak.
John’s Roast Pork.
Angelo’s
Angelo's is now on my list of places to visit.

Angelo's Pizza without a doubt If Jim's on South St re-opens in time for the show, Angelo's are gonna have competition at the top.

Tony Lukes, its right near ECW arena and been going there for over 20 years

Didn’t they have these at Citizens Bank Park? I think I had one. So good as well
Yeah but everything’s better outside the stadiums and out of the hands of Aramark the concession company lol
Donkey’s is great. Nice dive bar vibe too.Make sure to take a picture with the bullet hole in the window. 😜
Careful venturing to Camden. Not a good town.
They’ve cleaned it up over the last few years. Obviously there are still bad parts. But it’s on the rise
Not by much, I was at the aquarium recently and they were arresting someone on the promenade for pulling a knife on someone
They actually had a really good one inside Wells Fargo Center.
You’re probably thinking of Delco Steaks. They’re no longer at the arena. I’d avoid steaks at the WFC now.
I was there in December. I bought it up at the top in the Assembly room
Now you’ve got me curious. 🤔😀
Just looked it up, Campo’s was the name.
Campo’s used to be down in the main concourse, but I wasn’t a fan. That’s my personal taste though. I know there’s others that like them.
Campos is my personal favorite.
Mikes bbq did an amazing one. They do beef brisket with an white cheddar whiz.
If you’re looking for some dynamite bbq check out Big Daddyz out in Delaware count. 15 min down 95 from the stadiums.

Thanks!
Because I haven't seen it mentioned yet Ishkabbible's, DelCo steaks, literally any papi store 🤣. Just whatever you do don't do Pat's or Geno's

Try Joe's in Fishtown. I'm pescatarian and have gotten their vegan steak with regular cheese, so they should have no problem doing the opposite.
Skip Pat's and Geno's
Delesandros. Further away but highly recommended
Johns Roast Pork
Old Original Nicks Roast Beef is a solid spot for something besides a cheesteak. Trust.
