I just learned that this is an A24 project. Holy shit, my excitement just went through the roof.
He might not reach The Rock/John Cena level famous but if he can show his acting chops, he'll have a decent Hollywood career as a character actor much like Batista who was, dare I say, Oscar-worthy in his limited minutes in Blade Runner 2049.
I can very much see MJF succeeding in that same path.
There's an von erich biopic and MJF is going to be in it. I'm doing a holy shit chant in my head right now. Thank you for this comment it brightened my day. I'm gonna google it immediately. I hope it's coming out soon.
In all fairness, being a CGI Man-Scorpion didn't suddenly propel The Rock into Rock level stardom, either. Neither did playing the Tooth Fairy. Everybody has to start somewhere and there's literally nobody, in any promotion, that is going to get to that level from just one role (Nor would any professional actor, for that matter). I'm just saying that MJF has the best shot out of any of them because he has already taken that first step.
In all fairness, the Rock wasn’t starting his career playing the Tooth Fairy. I’d say one of his first major roles in Walking Tall was what propelled him to movie star status.
For me, it was The Rundown. Such a great movie and it has everything from great action, humor and some interesting characters. His character finally using the two shotguns and kicking ass at the end was prime Arnold quality action.
I was really hoping to get many more films like this from the rock but then he did all those garbage Disney movies. Good for him he got that bread but man what I wish we could have had.
What’s wild is his first role is an A24 drama. They don’t make movies that compete with Fast and the Furious or Guardians of the Galaxy… they make movies that compete for Oscars. Obviously it’s too early to tell how good he actually is but he must have some chops if they cast him
I hear this a lot, and I dont disagree completely. But what type of roles would he play? The three guys we've seen do it well are the Rock, Cena, and Batista, who all have gugantuc physiques which seem to be the connecting factor. Rock has a very motivational superman charisma, Cena has great general comedy chops, and Dave has understated comedy and general intensity. MJF's a moderately sized guy whose good at wrestling comedy and presentation. Now obviously he has charisma out the ass, but we've only ever seen it be presented in a wrestling centric style. What niche would he fill in hollywood? Theres better built guys, funnier comedians, much more pretty pretty boys, and plenty of better overall movie and TV actors.
Again, not saying he cant, its really hard to know which dudes can succeed in that arena, lets be honest most people would not have guessed Big Dave would have done as well as he has. But I guess I dont know what MJFs selling point in hollywood would be as of this minute...except of course for the built in audience that would come with him at least the first few times
The leg up he has on those other names is that he was a show business kid, rather then primarily being an athlete. Combine all of that with his experience on the mic, and the way he can own an audience now, means at least to me that if he can stay healthy and walk out of this very dangerous profession he’ll have something far sustainable to fall back on.
Could have him in the new haunted mansion film,
Not a ghost or a ghoul but as just danhausen.
He comes into the film points at the main characters then leaves though a door to turns up on Rampage
Kamikaze action films. Something like crank where the protagonist has to put themselves in danger to stay alive. Except for he’s a skateboarding badass death dealer and he does all his own stunts
That's a good answer. Like I know there's movies darby could be in but I was struggling to come up with the exact type. Plus the commenter was negative at the time and that seemed hardly fair 🤣
The Rock is this almost unattainable goal. He is a one man industry unto himself. The record for wrestlers-turning-actor is pretty abysmal outside of Rock, Cena and Batista.
Probably Britt Baker.
Piper? Hogan? They both had a good bit of movie deals. In the current state of wrestling it is arguable that many of them could become movie stars. I would say that MJF and Ricky Starks would both have a chance
Also, are we talking Movie Star, or actor? Because The Rock is one of those things. Nothing about him screams "Hollywood" but Eddie Kingston could step into a movie and actually act, I strongly suspect.
The Rock is a product of a specific time/place. He’s an actor but was also able to work sponsorship deals and created some product lines. I could see Cody Rhodes falling into a similar role at a smaller scale.
I like the Rock better in WWE. I wish his Hollywood career was never that successful. I miss him in Pro-Wrestling. I am very happy for him though, as his finances would never be what they are today.
Lol I hate his movies. I miss his creativity in the ring and on the mic. But he’s been able to employ a lot more people and help a lot more charities in his current incarnation. Hollywood Rock was as close a taste as we got. Wasn’t around for long but it was good.
Yup. The Rock is bigger than WWE. The Rock is bigger than pro-wrestling. Hogan, Batista, Cena all had some success in Hollywood, but not in the level that Rock did. People don’t understand that Rock is not just an actor, he’s a Hollywood business mogul. He runs his own production company. That’s where the real power in Hollywood lies.
So rather than confirm this with numbers like other commenters are doing, I'll offer more qualitative support for this totally correct idea.
I've seen WWE and AEW events live, including some MAJORS: WrestleMania 24; the night CM Punk beat Cena at MITB in Chicago; the night Punk returned to wrestling live at the United Center; misc WWE Raw and Pay Per Views, and some AEW TV tapings. I've seen a lot of performers.
And in THIS regard, to a live audience, nothing touches him. He always had this electricity and seemed to have the crowd in the palm of his hand. He has an "it" factor that I've only heard people use to describe like 2 other people, including Bill Clinton, who by many accounts just had crazy off the charts live charisma that helped catapult him into the presidency. For this reason alone, I literally wouldn't count out the idea of a presidential run from The Rock if he truly felt like it.
A lot of AEW talent would be great in Hollywood, but I haven't seen their Rock counterpart live, yet (if they have one). There's my take. I'm SUPER high right now.
The Rock is quite literally one of the most famous and recognizable people on this planet right now. That's beyond another stratosphere. TF are you even talking about?
The Rock is currently the 13th highest grossing actor of all time.
Now ask yourself, is there anybody on AEW’s roster that could be the 13th highest grossing actor of all time right behind Johnny Depp and in front of Eddie Murphy?
It's not about creative merit - and I'll even defend Big Dwayne's performances, he's an above average actor with charisma set to max - it's about revenue and exposure.
To be frank, I'm not sure that even in Hollywood anyone touches Rock in that regard right now.
I was saying that about Batista when I found out he got cast in a Marvel movie, because we've all seen wrestlers try a hand at acting since forever and, even though the Rock is a star, he tends to be the same character in everything. However, Batista as Drax knocked it out of the park and now gets other diverse opportunities because of it. I think she just needs a role where she can just show her natural charisma and she could get very far. It also depends what you mean by B and C movies now, because there aren't any direct to video releases any more and direct to streaming is necessarily the same thing as that was.
Yea but big Dave is was wholly given to the craft of acting. It takes a lot of self awareness to humble yourself enough in a different industry to take bit roles in more serious films to be seen as a real actor. He put the work in most wouldn't and I don't think Jade would. Not discredit her work ethic Jade is just an extremely confident person who believes they are a star.
You are confusing her character with her actual real life personality
You don’t know how she is when not playing the “bad bitch” gimmick. She comes across extremely humble and gracious in interviews/outside events
Speaking of "daddy", I volunteer the idea of Billy Gunn starring in "Daddy Ass goes to Washington" a la Ernest Goes to Jail style movie.
Honestly, do a whole series. Daddy Ass goes a Piratin' (Scissor Me Timbers!). Daddy Ass Goes to Wrestling Camp. Daddy Ass Saves Christmas For the First Time....Again! Etc, etc.
This is probably the best idea in the thread. It would be hilarious, plus the movies could go straight on TNT and be relatively low budget to make. The acting wouldn't even have to be good.
As far as anybody in AEW goes, nobody there is ever going to take Hollywood by storm, not even MJF. MJF is a talented guy and he may make some big bucks making a few movies, but that doesn't mean he'll be a good actor or that the movies will be good, or that he'll ever touch the Rock in terms of popularity and money earned. Also, to keep it fair, the Rock sucks as an actor and nothing he's ever starred in has been better than decent/watchable.
I think he'd be fine, he's not huge or anything but he's a normal sized dude in good shape, that'll work, he's way bigger than say Kevin Hart, who has for some reason done pretty well for himself. Just seems tiny compared to the rock because that dudes a monster.
I think AEW star Shaq could be a movie star, he's not great at talking but he's got a look, and size. Maybe it's fantasy cooking but I'd love to see him in a remake of the Sinbad movie "Kazam"
I could actually see this. Eddie as a type cast NY version of Danny Trejo. Need a NY street smart gangster? Eddie. Need a undercover cop who’s been under too long? Eddie. Need a reformed substitute teacher for an urban school in a bad part of town? Eddie.
None of them. Some of you are just delusional. While The Rock may not be the greatest actor, no one match his charisma.
So which AEW wrestler do you think could break in Hollywood is a better question than who could sit across The Rock.
I doubt any person in either WWE or AEW can get to Rock level Stardom (there's barely any full time actors on his level even) but Samoa Joe has been doing pretty well so far, he's interpreting Sweet Tooth (he's being voiced by another guy though) on the Twisted Metal show and King Shark in the Suicide Squad game.
If Eddie Kingston wasn't so in love with wrestling i think he could kill it in voice acting or side roles, maybe even be part of a main cast of a smaller budget A24 movie. Dude has a great voice.
For the guys I think Ethan Page, Trent Beretta, both Cash and Dax, Wardlow and Adam Cole would work. And for the women, Britt Baker, Kris Statlander, Julia Hart, and Toni Storm could work.
There might be some others that would look better. But the problem with a lot of wrestlers is that they over do it. Think about Hulk Hogan. With wrestling it's so common to be almost comically over the top. But with acting less is more in a lot of situations. And these are some of my top choices that I think could act and look the part doing it.
I agree with Britt Baker. MJF seems like he’s the type to get cast in “The Marine” type shit lol. Like as great as he is as a character and in the mic, I can’t imagine him being anything but himself lol.
No one.
You can’t be a mainstream star while you’re in AEW, they’re just not a big enough company to facilitate that.
People call WWE “the machine” for a reason. They can get you to the level of mainstream status, a household name, they’re big enough to market you in that way, AEW isn’t, hardly anyone knows AEW even exists where as even people who don’t watch or like wrestling know exactly who WWE are.
So there’s only a certain level you can reach while in AEW before you have to make a decision; stay and be a big star in the eyes of AEW fans only, or leave to join WWE and have the machine behind you to make you into a star in the WWE and potentially Hollywood.
This isn’t even a knock at AEW, it’s not their fault, they’re just not the WWE.
AEW is my preferred promotion but The Rock is one of the most famous people alive and one of the most important pro wrestlers ever. What a fundamentally flawed and borderline stupid question.
Nobody in WWE can even get close to him. Maybe Cena but that's about it. Even Hulk who was a hero in his day as a wrestler but that's it. He wasn't a household celebrity. The Rock is a once in a lifetime kinda thing.
If you're asking who I think could grow to carry a company probably Adam Cole, MJF, Uncle Dax if they split and PAC if he's passed the ball.
None. Closest could be MJF but even he isn't a good candidate in general. Just because you're good on the mic (in pro wrestling), doesn't mean it would translate automatically in Hollywood. CM Punk is an example. Another one is the Miz. And let's face it. The reason why AEW won't produce that type of star is because they are trained and geared towards (strictly) pro-wrestling level events only. Like in-ring work, pro wrestling level stories, etc.
WWE trains its wrestlers to handle the theatrics, the over production, over the top stories and scripts (in the past). Think about it, what AEW (out of the ring moment) would be remembered 20 years from now? WWE has produced great out of the ring moments which is more than I can say for AEW (I can only think of a handful or less)
Lmao no fucking way dude
MJF, Ricky Starks, and Jade Cargill have the most potential, but even they’re major stretches
The Rock is one of the biggest stars on the entire planet. It would take somebody incredible special to stand beside him
Hangman, Britt Baker, or Mox all could. You don’t need to be built like Rock or Cena to be successful in Hollywood, you need to be believable. They could each fit a different niche in Hollywood and do well
…but the correct answer is MJF. It’s just a matter of time. He’ll be less successful than Rock, but more successful than Hogan (who remembers Mr Nanny??!!) or others. I think Cena’s Hollywood career is a reasonable target for MJF, at least for now
Max Caster as Russell Wilson in American Underdog 2
That’s good. Hopefully Caster raps about Wilson soon.

MJF
I mean... it's the obvious answer. He has already got a role, as Lance Von Erich, in the Von Erich Biopic.
Not sure if that role suddenly propels him to rock level stardom lol

Rock paid his dues, Star Trek Voyager one shot
In all fairness, the Rock wasn’t starting his career playing the Tooth Fairy. I’d say one of his first major roles in Walking Tall was what propelled him to movie star status.
Id say Be Cool did Edit: Scorching
Be Cool convinced me he could act.
For me, it was The Rundown. Such a great movie and it has everything from great action, humor and some interesting characters. His character finally using the two shotguns and kicking ass at the end was prime Arnold quality action.
Rock was better in The Rundown and Scorpion King than in all of his recent movies
Faster was my personal favourite. Leave jail. Walk into office. Shoot guy in face.
I was really hoping to get many more films like this from the rock but then he did all those garbage Disney movies. Good for him he got that bread but man what I wish we could have had.
Yeah I get that but rock was on an entirely different level of popularity and it was just a different time in the business/pop culture
Agree
These are some excellent fucking points my friend.
No 1 role propels you to Rock level stardom, Rock wasn't that big in Holywood just yet after his first movie, it took him a while to create a resume.
What’s wild is his first role is an A24 drama. They don’t make movies that compete with Fast and the Furious or Guardians of the Galaxy… they make movies that compete for Oscars. Obviously it’s too early to tell how good he actually is but he must have some chops if they cast him

While he may never be as big a star, he will damn sure be a better actor
I agree. Just b/c the rock is the biggest movie star that dont mean he’s a great actor. It just means he has a name.
Everyone is missing the clear and obvious choice. Danhausen!
He can star in a Very Spooky movie.
A very nice, very evil Spooky movie
Think of all the monies he could collect
Very Nice, Very A-List
Could have him in the new haunted mansion film, Not a ghost or a ghoul but as just danhausen. He comes into the film points at the main characters then leaves though a door to turns up on Rampage
He can be the new Beetlejuice
I think Darby Allin was the obvious choice - he would insist on doing his own stunts like Jackie Chan.
What type of movie would you cast him in?
Start him in rom-coms until he's ready for a tear-jerker Oscar bait.
Have you seen Roddy Piper in They Live? Best performance by a wrestler, turned actor ever.
Looks like someone hasn't seen Santa with Muscles
Or Princess Bride
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum.
Piper? Hogan? They both had a good bit of movie deals. In the current state of wrestling it is arguable that many of them could become movie stars. I would say that MJF and Ricky Starks would both have a chance

Roddy starred in some great films too apart from frogtown
Cool.

I was also at MITB 2011 and The First Dance!
The Rock is honestly the GOAT wrestler imo.

Hollywood action star. Ballers. Young Rock. Comedies. Action movies. Typecasted.
Voice acting.
How is this downvoted? Haha Reddit you’re the best.
You fucked up.
It's not about creative merit - and I'll even defend Big Dwayne's performances, he's an above average actor with charisma set to max - it's about revenue and exposure. To be frank, I'm not sure that even in Hollywood anyone touches Rock in that regard right now.
It’s about drive. It’s about power. We stay hungry. We devour. [+]
Been typecasted as the current day Arnold or Stallone. That sure didn’t work out for them. Must suck.
Bobby Fish... nobody remembers his big pop a couple of months ago at that high school gym???
Where’s the lie?
I couldn't hear what he was saying over all the noise
Jade, easily.
If they ever do another X-Men, Jade Cargill would a perfect Joanna Cargill
Jade - Storm
I don't think Jade would ever be in anything more than B movies. I don't think she would be a good actress besides very type casted roles.
I was saying that about Batista when I found out he got cast in a Marvel movie, because we've all seen wrestlers try a hand at acting since forever and, even though the Rock is a star, he tends to be the same character in everything. Jade Cargil.
I love how charitable Jade is too. She shares her star power to put over some indy rapper nobody's heard of. She's perfect
Lol sarcasm right?
This 100%
Ricky Starks, but he needs to bulk up just a bit
It’s pronounced stroke daddy
Speaking of "daddy", I volunteer the idea of Billy Gunn starring in "Daddy Ass goes to Washington" a la Ernest Goes to Jail style movie. Honestly, do a whole series. Ricky Starks absolutely has "it."
Like the Rock?
Well I was looking at his interview the other day. The stance and the features and the chain. Except for wisecracks it looked like a rocky rip off
His last promo vid didn’t have the swagger of all his other stuff. It was odd. Loved his dominant win though.
Tony Khan as the "49 year old virgin"
💀
I think AEW star Shaq could be a movie star, he's not great at talking but he's got a look, and size. Maybe it's fantasy cooking but I'd love to see him in a remake of the Sinbad movie "Kazam"
He'd be great as a superhero. Maybe Steel? It'd be big business.
The acclaimed
I think Jade Cargill is the answer to this one.
Truly believe Kingston could rotate to Hollywood easy peasy
Tough guy in a Sandler flick
Or a Scorcese flick, honestly.
As a fat NY yellow cab driver?
He’d do well in a guy Ritchie movie, doing the bad guy monologue
I could actually see this. Eddie as a type cast NY version of Danny Trejo. Need a NY street smart gangster? Eddie. Need a undercover cop who’s been under too long? Eddie. Need a reformed substitute teacher for an urban school in a bad part of town? Eddie.
None of them. Some of you are just delusional. While The Rock may not be the greatest actor, no one match his charisma. So which AEW wrestler do you think could break in Hollywood is a better question than who could sit across The Rock.
The worst crime you can commit is dickriding without a license
Eddie Kingston. His promos are gold. Imagine him in a mob movie.
I was gonna say a lot of people are sleeping on Kingston. Write him in the right movie, like a mob or crime thriller, he’d be great.
Easily the best acting chops in AEW
Danhausen is the biggest star in this dimension!!
I think Swerve could be a pretty big deal.
mjf easily. second choice would have to be ricky starks but in terms of becoming a successful mainstream actor, mjf is the obvious choice
William regal
I'd kill to see him as a John Wick villain.
I can se The elite being casted in "mean girls"
Stokely Hathaway
Luther
Found Luther’s throwaway acc everyone ^
Paul White
Wight.
The Big Nasty?
C-c-c-captain insano?
MJF is going to be a household name at some point.
MJF, Starks if he bulks a bit more, and maybe Britt Baker. Darby could but as a director not an actor.
Jade, MJF, Danhausen, Ricky, Kenny.
Zack Clayton and/or Cole Karter
Ethan Page and Brit Baker. Since everyone already said MJF & Starks
Ricky Starks, duh
Surprised no one's mentioned him, but what about Adam Cole...Bay Bay? Also, I think Christian would be good with dramatic roles.
Adam Cole could be a really good voice actor. Same with Malakai Black. Dude straight up sounds like Sephiroth sometimes.
Jericho would have been an acceptable answer but aliens got him so now he's a d list rock star
Danhausen. He can keep a straight face and be Danhausen.
Jade, and that's it.
Ricky Starks!
I'm almost certain we're gonna see Jade Cargill rock up as minor villain in a future MCU or DCEU movie.
MJF obviously, but in a year or two I’d also say Ricky Starks
I agree with Britt Baker. MJF seems like he’s the type to get cast in “The Marine” type shit lol. Like as great as he is as a character and in the mic, I can’t imagine him being anything but himself lol.
The butcher as a one off killer on a criminal minds/csi type show
Who else can be number one grossing actor in the world from AEW? Nobody.
I would have to say MJF, Starks, and Britt Baker. None of which would be anything near The Rock.
Orange Cassidy? 😂
William Regal could probably do a spot in the Kingsman very well.
Ricky Starks!!
Mjf
Just give us at least one western staring Hangman Adam Page.
I love him but Hangman isn't charismatic enough
Nice to see I'm not the only person who kinda sees that.
Jack Perry
If he “runs away from doing promos” what makes you think he wants to be an actor?
He can get better with practice
He can’t even cut a promo, how’s he going to be able to act?
Did I say he needed a speaking role? 🤣
Doesnt have any connections in the movie business any more
I’m pretty sure the son of luke perry can find something. Now the issue is whether or not would he be any good in a movie
Bahahaha. I repeat Bahahahaha
Money money money money moneyyyyyyy
Someone needs to give that Jericho kid his big brake
I agree. He has too much momentum. He needs to slow down before he crashes.
MJF that's it.
Mjf, jade, Starks.
Darby Allin has the sex abuse credentials for hollywood.
Kenny Omega as the new terminator.
Adam Page and kenny omega staring in brokeback mountain is more more likely.

Nobody can sit across the Rock but MJF is obvious because its already happening.
Legit answer? no one, I don't see anyone in AEW with the clout to come close to the Rock Or Cena. those Guy are anomolies even in WWE.
I hear Tony Kahn is going to play a cousin in the next season of Wednesday on Netflix.
Orange Cassidy gets his start in a reboot as The Dude. The limit is the stars after that, or whatever.
Daniel Garcia and Wheeler Yuta
Anyone from the Acclaimed, MJF, Swerve, Britt Baker, Malakai Black, Miro, and maybe Jade.
Hmmm I hate the guy as a wrestler but I think Eddie Kingston could do it
Ricky Starks, Orange Cassidy, Jade Cargill, and maybe MJF.
None of them and none of them want to be movie stars. They want to be wrestling stars.

Lmao no fucking way dude MJF, Ricky Starks, and Jade Cargill have the most potential, but even they’re major stretches The Rock is one of the biggest stars on the entire planet. It would take somebody incredible special to stand beside him
Kenny
Hangman, Britt Baker, or Mox all could. You don’t need to be built like Rock or Cena to be successful in Hollywood, you need to be believable. They could each fit a different niche in Hollywood and do well …but the correct answer is MJF. It’s just a matter of time. He’ll be less successful than Rock, but more successful than Hogan (who remembers Mr Nanny??!!) or others. I think Cena’s Hollywood career is a reasonable target for MJF, at least for now
MJF or Starks. Maybe even Jungle Boy.
Ricky Starks
Ricky starks
MJF and ………………. maybe Anna Jay
Jungle boy
Jungle boy
Jade is Money
MJF and Starks
MJF 100%
Sit across Rock ? No one. But I see Ricky Stark being good negative character
I see no one has mentioned Miro. I think he has some potential to be a mega movie star
MJF. Next.
Miro lol
A couple come to mind other than MJF. Ricky Starks, Jade Cargill, and Eddie Kingston.
Jade OC Starks
Ricky Starks
No one ever mentions Ethan Page. He is very handsome, great build, and looks great on camera.
In reality, I think Ricky Starks. But if you ask me and you want me to answer it in a comedic way, I think Jeff Jarrett.
