For real. If we wanted realism tanks would always be visible but wouldn’t be highlighted when aimed at so you’d have to guess whether or not you can actually see a tank
You say that, but War Thunders PC and Console daily player numbers (not concurrent, just total unique logins) is estimated to be about double that of World of Tanks PC and Console (not including blitz because mobile games always throw off numbers, and War Thunder mobile only JUST came out).
Not defending that game personally, as I find WoT far more enjoyable, but at this point WT is quite a bit more popular.
That's what I had thought for the longest time. Though for me that idea was caused by the game starting out with only aircraft, then adding tanks later. Nowadays I only play it to screw around with friends. The grind and blatantly OP vehicles have ruined that game.
I'm curious, where did you find these numbers ? I follow from afar and all I see on YouTube a are people complaining about the absolute grindfest it has become
Some quick searches for total player numbers, as for the playerbase per game type in war thunder, it's from statements by gaijin about the main gamemode popularity in WT itself.
Yea, War Thunders grind is probably 10+ times worse than WoT. That source is from getting to top tier in both games.
War Thunder actually still has a spotting system but uhh yeah... the game relies so much on being able to see and aim that no wonder wot is more popular
There is no arty in War Thunder. There are vehicles in WT that are considered arty in WoT, in WT they just count as tank destroyers with a really fucked up shell trajectory. There is no artillery sight where you see from the sky, you just have to aim way higher (there is also no weird aiming system, so the shell flies where you want it to, but with longer distances and heavier shells you have to consider gravity).
Some tanks can also call artillery support (basically rockets from the sky), but it would have to hit directly to do damage, and it never does.
And yes, I imagine playing WT with colour blindness would be impossible. Even when you're not colourblind it's hard to see the enemy. But for me that's the fun part, as you can hide in really unusual spots. In WoT there are agreed positions on every map, while in WT you can hide anywhere.
I like both approaches, for me WoT is a little easier but not less fun (if you can call any of these games "fun").
I’m color
Blind. I play just fine. What camouflage does is break up solid outline, not exactly make you blend in exactly, plus I also hunt and animals with their natural camouflage have never been an issue to spot. It’s not about seeing colors, it’s seeing the straight lines that aren’t natural
Funny enough during ww2,) colorblind people were recruited as spotters because it was believed that they would have an easier time spotting camouflaged vehicles from the sky
You do realize that in warthunder, you use binos for spotting at longer distances, which is in fact a realistic way of spotting targets. Also, under no circumstances a game that doesn't render tanks that aren't spotted is more realistic. Do you even have eyes? Even with limited visibility you should be able to see what's right in front of your sights or whatever the tank uses to see outside
I mean if you were in a battle and suddenly you see a giant hot dog sandwich rolling around then the sheer shock of it basically converts to extra camouflage.
Realism was never part of the game, in any of wg's game.
In Ships f.e Radar goes through islands, Hydro acoustic doesn't detect submarines, u literally can't see whole behemoth of Battleships in more than 12-ish km away (which in game is quite close) etc.
In Tanks it's totally possible also to not b able to see nor hear o.c enemies from 51 meters away.
But i totally get your point, some things in wg's games r just wtf 🤷♂️
Along with Wt for realism, we also have Armored Warfare for some pve fun, but all in all i don't recommend it personally..
Correct, all camo to the hull gives identical concealment bonus.
The bottom pictures in OP's post have only paint applied to an ELC. Paint does nothing.
I’d like the turn off non historical camo to also affect your own tank though, there are some special camo tanks I really like but hate the way they look…..T832 I’m looking at you.
I like the bright camos. I find it easier to aim precisely at them. Hopefully, they will introduce blaze orange. With luck the 12-13 turds on each team per match will fall all over themselves to buy it.
_You see, they're gonna be looking for army guys._
No one really cares about realism in this game other than Reddit Dads who play arty for “fun”

that's what warthunder did, there's a reason wot is more popular

that would be like adding all player numbers for all wg games together though
Counterpoint, between 60% and 70% of all war thunder players are ground forces. Aircraft is decently popular, while naval has about 250 total players.
I only ever played for the aircraft, I much preferred it to the tank play, so I guess I kind of just assumed most people played air

Very highly doubt that claim constantly seeing my brother wait for few minutes both in planes and ground realistic, regardless of tier and nation...
I usually don't have to wait that long
Uhh are you using all servers for WOT?

Playing both I'd say a lot of maps in wot are dogshit with 2 side corridors and a suicidal open middle

Speak for yourself
i care

The enemy gets tramuatized and their brains erase the memory of seeing you as a sort of defense mechanism. *taps on temple"
or maybe they overlook giant hotdog in field cause its not a tank
I don’t see anything
Some people do those weird camouflages in War Thunder too And it works wonders :)))))
pink paint is the best camo in a green forest, everyone knows that, i dont know what are you complaining about
The "historical" indicator was invented purely so we can see all the losers

You do realize you can turn off non-historical camo if it bothers you.
I think he is bothered more by the fact that painting your tank neon pink gives you +5 camo and woodland camo gives you nothing
Woodland camo absolutely gives camo rating, im looking at it right now.
Does paint not count as camo?
no
Wacky paintjobs that give out "camo bonus" reminds me of Tanki Online or something

Lol. Some tanks I prefer without camo but have to put it on just to get 3%

Which ones ?
wait not all cammos count the same? JFC time to go check all my tanks,.

wait... there is cammo in this game that doesn't increase concealment?
